In 1959 my dad and his two sisters bought three brand new builder homes in a row. The ladies got to choose their finishes. One Aunt chose a palmolive green and black tiled bathroom. My other Aunt selected lemon yellow and black. My Mom picked the exact pink and black tiles and accessories that were in the bathroom of the picking house. My oh my just seeing that bathroom brought back so many memories for me. I loved it!
I was waiting for the day that you and Taco would start your clean-out business so I was happy to hear that you are thinking along those lines too. There was so much stuff piled in that house I am sure it would be profitable to go back and dig some more and maybe even bring a couple spotlights for the basement and attic. I hope there are some good finds in the jewelry bag. Thanks for sharing another fun adventure!
It's amazing to have a friend that turns you and Taco onto houses like this! So many treasures! And as you say all 3 of you guys have different things that you are looking for and point each other to the things that you each like! GREAT TREASURES! Great seeing you and Taco working together again!!
Many do that Janice & many families are grateful when that happens, as sometimes doing a cleanout can become both a burden and also cause problems in the family.
An old nursing trick when you go into rooms with unpleasant odors, put a big smear of Vick’s salve underneath your nose. Also, carry one of those Vick’s nasal inhalers in case the original Vick’s wears off. Vick’s will prevent you from smelling almost anything. You picked some nice items, looking forward to the jewelry. I hope you get the chance to return for another pick. From the looks of it, you could go for a week and still find new items you hadn’t seen before. 🦋
This happened to me once! My husband and I bought a house from the estate of an elderly couple that had recently passed away. The house came with everything, even the food in the fridge! (We tossed it all) but yeah, the place was old, but clean and it took some time to to sell off and donate the contents. It was a lot of fun.
There was a big chest freezer in the basement that also still had frozen food in it! I didn't open it, but our friend Pete had discovered the food a few weeks prior. No thanks!
I once had a friend, who was a hoarder. Could not get to any of the rooms, try to help her, it was very difficult. That's nice of you to help them, Renee♥
It's amazing what ceramics can create for salt and pepper shakers. They are great to collect as they are small and pretty. Great finds. Can't wait to see what jewellery you've picked x
You have me thinking of my elementary days. Getting excited whenever a holiday roll by. Decorating the classroom with pumpkins, snowflakes, black 🐈⬛ and bats. Good times 😊
It’s so fun to decorate for the holidays! I do something for every holiday but my main ones are Christmas & Halloween. It bring back such good memories!
I bought a bag of fabric at an estate sale one time in a bag. I opened before I went in rather house and never took o side. The nicotine smell was horrible. I took it out. It was a beautiful beginning g of a quilt top. I separated the fabric and left out in the cool air for over a week, still smelled very strong. There was a 5 or 6 yard piece that I docked in a solution of soda and small amount of bleach and hung to dry out for a week. Turned out ok. It broke my heart to throw all the rest of the quilt top and fabric out!! I never knew that nicotine smell was that strong and stayed forever!! I love to watch you dig thru things. I feel like I'm right there with you!! Glad you and Taco spend digs together!!
I bought a few cotton shirts at a yard sale. They were washed in a very strong smelling detergent or fabric softener or dryer sheets. I tried soaking in vinegar, baking soda, unscented detergent, even Calgon water softener and hung in sun for 5 days!!! Nothing ever worked. They still smell like fabreeze or strong detergent odor. I don't want to walk around smelling like that. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I probably will never buy used clothes again. THANKS! 🥰 🧡🧡🧡
As Taco left a thousands dollars of antique furniture on the curb last week because he had $15 of scrap in his truck, I think the student is clearly him. Renee scored a Civil War diary, she has the touch.
Lauri Hyde - he could have taken it all to the auction he goes to weekly and let them sell it for a cut. Why have that huge van and then not use it to a greater advantage. He wears white to scrap? No common sense.
For the cigarette and mildew odors you can try adding white vinegar to a very warm sink full of water. Baking soda usually works on fabric , you can add vinegar to you washing machine as well. There’s a cleaner called barkeeper’s friend that works well on some things, just be mindful, it is abrasive and can take paint off figurines, pick a small unnoticeable area to test before you use it to clean painted items.
My great grandmother, Jenny Marie, collected salt and pepper shakers, so your find brought me back! I loved seeing them all in the glass front cabinet and it meant so much to me that she gifted each of her great grandchildren a set when she passed.
I had a racist print that was in my deceased aunt’s home. She just thought it was cute and didn’t realize the underlying message. I did and I took it to our African American museum for their collection on racism. The day it left my house was a good day for me and the museum welcomed it. An old man about my age said he had heard of this print, but hadn’t seen one until I brought it in.
The laundry soap Persil works great on bad smelling fabric items (Walmart).. it even removed albacore smell from my grandson’s work clothes .. also odoBan elimates odors from laundry and carpets (Home Depot) .. both are great products..and will not discolor anything!! Give them a try hopefully they will work well for you .. 😊 thank you for the fun!
I loved the shaker and the jewlery. I saw a atari cartridge under the jewlery bag I was hoping you saw it and directed it to the head picker. It was alot of fun, I hope you go back.
When getting rid of cigarette smoke small, white finger will be your best friend. Add it to the wash, to soap and water to clean ceramics and metal objects and wipe down wooden objects with plain vinegar. I’ve been able to remove the smell from wooden furniture but it’s a commitment.I clean the furniture with mild soap first to remove the nicotine and other dirt. When the surface dirt is gone, wipe the object down with vinegar and let it dry. You’ll need to continue wiping it down until the smell is gone. Plan on the process taking at least a week for a piece of furniture. Small wooden objects may only take a copy of days. I’ve rescued antique chairs and left the finish intact. Good luck!
The problem with the house clean-out business is that the house owner is usually hiring you to remove everything. That can be a lot of work, and cost money in dump fees.
Hey Renee, great haul. The costume jewelry, use alcohol and qtips to clean. Will remove smell. As long as you do not soak in alcohol, it will not damage jewelry. It's what I have used for years.
Very nice pickups, Renée ! Over here in Germany, the cleanout business became more and more frustrating for some of my friends. Lots of messie households and their heirs know very well to look up interesting items in the internet and to pull them out. Because you´re a "niche lady", it might be more interesting for you to start some cleanouts. Greets from GER, U.

I was hoping that you got the jewelry bag, looks interesting, there were only 3 (yes only 3 sales around here as we are still in lockdown) and the volume purchaded was smoking pipes, real good deal all for $5., ebay pulled thru so I can eat for another week lol. Will be back for the gold & silver reveal! 🤞

Thanks Kim. I will try that. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I even turn my sound up and it’s still hard. I really like Rene and this channel. That’s why I keep coming back.
Could you place the items into a ozone box (may need to build) to remove the smells? I know ozone machines can do wonders on all the soft surfaces in cars. What a house to find! 👍👍
What a great house to pick you found some great items I love watching your channel always remember dry or wet baking soda will normally take out the odor for most things even cigarette smoke
Nice! I'm over here listing vintage items bought via auction over a 3 year period, clothes mostly right now, in the Hippity History Etsy shop. Also making a vintage skit tonight! Paper and Moose has been a big inspiration to slowly get into RUclips! Always look forward to your posts!
Cant wait for the jewelry reveal, love the salt and pepper shakers, ive collected a few through the years....yes cigarette smoke is awful. My in laws smoked and when pictures were removed from the walls you could see how much nicotine was on walls.... great video!
My grandfather smoked, mostly in his kitchen. Same thing when they removed pictures from the walls. He passed away in 1980 and I could not believe the kitchen after my mom and aunt cleaned it. Eight pails of ammonia and water and each pail was a filthy brownish color. I walked in and thought they put a new fluorescent light in and painted, because everything was so bright. Nope!
I purchased some charcoal packets in the laundry section at the store and placed it in a tote with a vinntage leather purse that had a terrible smoke smell. It took a little while but the odor was completely gone after some time.
To remove smoke smell ...put item(s) in ziplock/tight closing bag, along with several charcoal briquettes. Leave them as such for at least a week. Then remove items from the bag and discard bag and briquettes p. Then put item(s) in a new ziplock bag along with 3-4 strong smelling new dryer sheets ...and leave for at least a week. That should do it. Be careful with dryer sheets - they have some of the most toxic (to the body) - yes, even though they are routinely used in people’s dryers. Best of luck!
This reminds me of curiosity incorporated current run of clearing homes you need a helping hans and zenovia!

Fun picking! The flowers on your porch look like some I have on my planter. The tag in mine said Goodnight Kiss. Is that what yoursare?
I love your videos so much ❤. I hope you find gold in accessorues ^-^
Get one of those double sided frames. You can cut the wording out and put it on the back side
Saw a pretty rhinestone brooche in the bag. LOVE them and collect them. Hope to see some in your Etsy shop. 🤞❤
I loved hearing Taco Stacks voice!
Boy, when you went in the bedroom I got a peek at the headboard of the bed. I have that bed upstairs. It was here when we moved in.

You can wipe down the shakers with windex and they will smell cleaner.
Renee, at 6:20 in you pulled out a Archer Radio Patrol bike radio. They average sell for about $45 on Ebay. Double that if the box was with it.
