If you hear a humming noise from the rear of your truck, it's probably one of two things. Either the differential has a problem, or the axle shaft bearings are worn out. In this video, Len shows you where to look in the rear of your truck to find out where that humming noise is coming from, and shows you what you can do to fix it.

I feel 1A Auto has the best repair channel. I have also ordered parts from them several times and not disappointed.

I am on your subscribed list and my son just sent me info about the rear of his truck making noise. He is deaf but with his hearing aids he can hear some and pretty well decern where it is coming from. I sent him this video and told him to check and see if this might be his problem. Because it is not happening all the time. It is on and off and the mechanic can not find it. I hope if he leaves you a comment that maybe you can advise him a little better. Thanks for all your great advice. I have used your advice quite a few times now.
Could you do one where you convert an open differential to a limited or locking differential?
can you guys do a how to video for a rack and pinion on a 02 to 07 jeep liberty. i need to change one on mine.
I replaced the rear shocks on a 2006 Mustang GT with Bilstein ones. This car always had some slight humming noise in the rear end at highway speeds. With the new shocks it is completely quiet in the rear now and I don’t understand why as this car was basically like that since it was pretty new. Any idea what new shocks might have changed?
Excellent video..
You explain very well.
Thanks for your time
What is the torque spec for the 8mm bolt inside the diff?
Been there on the RAM 5500.
didn't realize you guys have so many specialized tools. Are mechanics expected to own them or are they provided by the shop.
How about humming in the front left, right, or the differential?
What camera and/or mic are you using?
HELP!!! I have a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3l LTZ. I started hearing a roaring sound from the front and it sounded like it was coming from the driver side. I bought a new hub assembly and put it on, but I still hear the humming sound. I've rolled up the windows so I could hear it better, but I can't pinpoint where it's coming from. It's odd, it sort of sounds like its coming from in between the front wheels in the center of the front wheels. Any ideas???
I had a noise coming from the diff, turns out if was the parking cable housing rubbing against the drive shaft
What does it sound like??.. can we get sound on camera?( even though it’s old)
Best time to do parking brakes too..
Is there a video here about car engine shaking like crazy?
Differential cover, not pan. Sorry.....had to
If everyone explains like you I am sure the world will be pass in mechanics
