Hey everyone. Sorry about the few moments I misspoke about Tuberculosis being a virus, it very much is a bacteria. That was a covid slip, as we were talking about it off camera and it has been the hot topic to say the least this last year.
Haha, no worries, I was wondering why you called it a virus though and then started listing off antibiotics, since they only have effects on bacteria. On that topic, I once remember a medical student/junior doctor telling me Tuberculosis could cause calcification of the fatty tissue around a heart, is that true?
@@HazardSJ TB can cause calcifications in tissue and organs. There is some fat around the heart, not much. It’s more related to pericardial tuberculosis, not necessarily just fat.
@@DoctorER Thank you for explaining this, I guess he was just trying to point out that it could cause calcification or was exaggerating the extent of it, but it always made me think that the heart would become encased in a bony like cocoon.
Did nobody tell the doctor that, in game, Arthur’s symptoms don’t begin to manifest until months after he was first exposed? Apparently, TB is affected by heat and humidity, so it’s fitting that Arthur’s symptoms got significantly worse after returning from Guarma (a tropical island).
Dude I was just sitting here like “wow they gave him no context to what’s happening” like if I was there I’d tell him more important things like that how he went to guarma
That's really debatable. It can be argued that he got it from Hosea, not Downes like he thought. Hosea was in really bad shape, the same as Arthur, the ginseng elixir, and wanting Dutch to stay in mild/ arid/ not humid climates as opposed to wet and cold ones, on top of the fact that it was known that he was constantly sick, coughing and wheezing. There's even moments in camp where Hosea has coughing fits, and i'm fairly certain in the beginning of the game, Arthur has a regular cough. It wasn't old age, it was TB. In fact, he probably infected the majority, if not everyone in the camp with it.
Doc: “Never seen a head taken off by a shotgun like that…” as a former EMT and retired cop I can confirm a shotgun round CAN do that, but the doc wouldn’t see it because there isn’t much point in transporting to the ER at that point 😁. Good explanations.

They spent all their time outside, with that type of ventilation, the risk is decreased. They may have contracted it but not develop symptoms. Latent TB is very common, and these people may not develop symptomatic disease until later in life. Abigail dies in 1914 at the age of 37. It’s pure speculation, but I think it’d be interesting if she was confirmed to have died of TB.
Seeing this game spooked me the first time over, because when I was going into my career in education, I found out I was actually positive for TB. I was thinking "holy shit, if I didn't take this type of job, could that have been me?" Which was actually very unlikely, as I had dormant TB, but it was a scare nonetheless. Luckily, thanks to modern medicine, I just had to take pills for a few months that discolored my urine and I'm safer (can't completely get rid of it, but it's incredibly unlikely to be "awoken") and can work in my dream field 🙂
This guy answered the question I was wondering the whole time through my playthrough.... Arthur finds out he's sick & then still sits down & has deep face-to-face conversations....but none of them get tuberculosis. You would think, if you have advanced tuberculosis & you have several conversations within 2 feet of someone...at least one of em would get sick
I was thinking the same thing. But you never get a really good look at that rolling block rifle so it’s understandable that he thought it was a shotgun
It still wouldn’t matter, there’s arteries everywhere veins are. If your shot in a vein in would be darker but also bleed a lot more slowly than an artery

I think a cool throwback for the epilogue would've been to see Micah with TB after his brawl with Arthur. But of course, Dutch would have probably contacted it eventually also.
That would have continued the idea that the tuberculosis symbolized the inevitability of death for the most brutal of outlaws, I didn’t realize until this video that Arthur must have thought he contracted tuberculosis because of karma.
Maybe not the husband part exploration point you made a good brother-in-law and uncle what would his relationship with John and his family. But as a husband while there is a reason the woman he loved didn't marry him! She loved them she still love them even visiting his grave after he died. Buy believe the entire subplot explain why the two of them would never work because there was no way he would ever have been able to get out of the game oh, the outlaw game I mean! That one is sadly because of Dutch and Man Arthur would have had none but the shake of his head if he saw where Dutch ended up by the events of the first game up to the point he committed suicide when John finally cornered him! A man who fought and hated the system... Because he wasn't a part of it is the best way to kind of describe Dutch. The death of his best friends after that bank robbery by the pinkertons pretty much cemented that Dutch was doomed , Micah didn't make it any better Bud Micah only fan the Flames that were already there to the point that you could say the only good decision Dutch ever made was finally seeing Micah for the snake he was by the end of the epilogue
6:00 That’s incorrect. By 1899, firearm ammunition was more or less shaped and calibered like ammunition today. Cast lead balls (musket balls) went out of style nearly 40 years before this.
I read comments and folks also thought when Arthur was on that island, activated his TB. The fact it can be dormant for years until something sets it off is wild.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate all the hard MFers who survived these archaic medical procedures he's talking about (as well as those who didn't), and whose cases gave doctors the understanding that brought medicine to where it is today?
Nurse: "Doctor! DOCTOR! We need your help!!!" The ER doctor: " what happened? " Nurse: " he got shot in the neck, Got his arm blown off by a shotgun shot, has an arrow in the knee, knife in his back and lost his legs with a dynamite explosion! " The ER doctor: "haha, noice"
Some shotguns do have scopes actually - these are often used for slug loads or hunting... Yes shotguns have longer ranges than you’d think... Hollywood and video games don’t portray shotguns very realistically But I do agree - it bothers me that he looked at a trapdoor rifle and called it a shotgun as well lol 🤣🤘
