    Thanks for the fun post my friend, much appreciated and the shout out too!👍 IMO that's a really pretty mixed material specimen sir, and appeared to have some nice butterscotch colored plumes as well. 🤗 Next year, gonna have to take you to the actual honey hole out in the Owyhee's (sorry you had to leave that day, just wish that campground had been more productive but at least now we know) then we'll head down to the Oregon/Nevada border for some agate, jasper, pet wood, fossils and thundereggs all in a 25 mile radius.😲 Crazy good hunting to be had~haha 😁 Anyway, really love the quality of the flat lap polish and am hopeful that the economy changes in the near future so I can get or make a quality device myself. (the vibratory lap works but only on much larger pieces without some kind of clamp and is somewhat messy) Thanks again. PS. If you're interested I am going thunderegg digging this weekend in the Ochoco's if there's no fires there~ Give me a ring!

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 года назад +1

      Yeah it defiantly rides the line between Jasper and Agate. I am so down for doing that trip with you again that was awesome! I think the vibratory lap for me would be a good option cause most of what I want to do is just cut rocks in half and put a polish on both sides, I assume things that are about baseball sized would be heavy enough for it but I'm not really sure, it seems like a hard thing to find an answer about online. I would love to go hunting with you down there but I have prior engagements for the weekend.

      @@BackcountrywithShaughn yes , it's used to soak up the excess oil left on the specimens during cutting.
      Most lapidary shops have kitty litter and buckets of dawn water for cleaning.

      @rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 3 года назад +1

      When you are ready to change your water system a gravity flow tube to a 5 gallon bucket is great for the drain end, and the top end a gallon jug of Arizona green tea as the jug is the most durable and you can tap in a spigot with a turn valve placed up high on a shelf and again gravity works to your advantage. I'm not sure how about the winter unless you have heat in the shop.

    Have you ever tried an angle grinder for cutting or grinding big agates? I do carving and sculpting and this can’t be with normal saw machine because i need just cut small pieces of the stone

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  2 года назад

      I have not tried that but I will say that a normal angle grinder is way to fast for lapidary work at 12000 RPM, you might want to look at some of the variable speed options.

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding

      When you're learning you can take a stone and draw some lines over it with a pencil and when they are gone you have all new scratches from the current grit.
