(Sven)
Try this out: Take a warm shower and magnesium glycinate about an hour before bed. Drink green tea instead of coffee in the morning or early afternoon to let caffeine clear your system. Keep your bedroom cool and listen to an audiobook or podcast on a timer as you fall asleep.
The problem with sticking with a program, for me, is that I don't have one. Being a rock climber and a mountain biker, two very different sports, and also by being interested in overall strength, I always find it difficult to do something effective and I am plateauing since years now.
Eternal progress is a silly myth, obviously vast majority of gym-goers have their peak results somewhere between mid-20's and early 30's. There is absolutely nothing wrong with 'just' staying in good shape.
Just finished level 2 of your Calisthenics program. Level 3 starts next week. Though I have doubts whether I will hit the 8 rep target of pull ups in order to fully start level 3. If I have to repeat the last phase in level 2 that’s fine. It’s a marathon not a sprint.
Yeah you can even repeat the complete level more than once. We desinged the levels with enough phases and variety that you can repeat it over and over until you meet the reuqirements for the next level.
I actually happen to disagree with the notion of not skipping workouts when you don’t feel like training. I used to force myself to do it, as well, but I’ve come to learn it’s not a good idea. If your body’s telling you to rest, you should listen to it; ignoring it only leads to overtraining, injuries, diminished progress, lingering fatigue, etc. If you’re really not up for it, forcing it will probably result in decreased performance and you won’t be making much progress, if at all, in any case. I’d say it’s much better to skip workouts and come back when more fresh and able to perform at max, or high enough, capacity. Taxing yourself even further will only result in longer recovery times, and worst case scenario, if you injure yourself, you might be away for weeks or even months (and it’s happened to me). I used to think feeling tired was a good sign, that I was training hard, making progress, etc.… But ever since I started prioritizing rest more, listening to my body, and avoding exhaustion and forced training, I‘ve been progressing much faster, getting injured a lot less, feeling better overall, and enjoying it a lot more as well. And I know the video mentioned motivation, which tends to be more psychological and shit, but a lot of people still genuinely believe you should virtually never skip a workout, force yourself when not feeling it, etc. Besides, even if it’s just psychological, you should still pay attention to the mental side of your health and it still affects your physical performance. We’re supposedly doing this because we like it, care about it, etc.; it’s not meant to be a punishment or anything. Ideally, it shouldn’t feel like much of a chore either. So, if we’re not feeling it anymore, perhaps we should ask ourselves why. There might be something else that needs addressing or we might just not be enjoying it anymore, in which case, what’s even the point? There’s plenty of other physical activities we could be doing instead, but I think whatever it is we choose, it should be fun and exciting for us and something we actually look forward to. I remember when one of the top parkour athletes in the whole world was once asked what he did to stay motivated to train and shit, for instance, and he actually compared it to masturbation: you don’t gotta force yourself to do it; you simply do it because it feels good, and that made a lot of sense to me. Also, and somewhat related, I remember Simon from Simonster Strength saying in an interview that he didn’t plan what he would do in his workouts and whatnot; he improvised and simply went with how he was feeling at the time, and he’s gotta be one of the strongest people in the world, at the very least when it comes to bodyweight exercises. I think I was kinda shocked to hear that at the time, but I’ve come to understand and see the value in flexibility; however, most training regimes tend to unfortunately be a bit too rigid. I mean… like, of course, consistency is paramount; training once a month won’t amount to much, for instance; but then again, if you’re only motivated once a month or so, you’re probably either suffering from something such as depression or you should perhaps simply find a different activity that motivates you more, in my opinion (why force yourself to do something that just isn’t doing it for you?). Or maybe even change approaches? Different things work for different people… Or maybe I’m just reading too much into it, lol, but perhaps there’s someone out there who might find this helpful, so whatever…
I think it is important to differentiate between actually being tired vs being lethargic. If you've slept and eaten sufficiently, train at a reasonable level that stays within a sustainable and healthy recovery window, and you are not actively ill, then chances are that while you may feel tired (even exhausted) at times, what is more likely happening is that you're lethargic - aka your energy level has been situationally down-regulated to very low levels due to long periods of inactivity, increased mental stress, or both. One way to know which it is is to get up and move around and get your blood pumping a bit - go for a brisk walk or do 5-10 minutes of high-energy movement like jumping jacks, higher-tempo bodyweight squats and pushups, running in place, jump rope, etc. Most of us will find that in doing this, our energy levels will bounce back more than enough to go for a workout, take care of after-work tasks, or otherwise energetically do whatever needs doing. This is because our body's metabolism has the equivalent of those motion-sensing room lights: When it senses that you don't NEED a lot of physical energy on tap (such a by sitting at a desk all day, or spending a lot of mental CPU cycles thinking or worrying while not doing a lot of physical activity), your body will turn down your energy level to conserve calories there's no reason to burn or to shunt them to your brain, or both. Getting your heart rate up, even for a little bit, is like waving your hand in front of the motion sensor - it signals your body to turn the energy level back up because you're back in active mode. Of course, if you haven't slept and eaten well or you've overdone it, and getting up and moving around DOESN'T help or just makes you feel even more tired, then I concur - take a down day and recover. But it's always worth at least trying. A quick burst of high-energy movement by itself isn't going to hurt even if it turns out you are actually physically tired or ill, and could likely give you the boost you need to stick to your fitness plan when your body has just put you into "sleep" mode to save fuel.
@@Aliapfelsaft thanks, I think the initial inertia of the 2 minutes really makes a difference, once I got going the lack of motivation was behind me. Keep the consistency but maybe shift a rest day the next time a curve ball hits haha
Hahaha! 💪🤣 For me, the secret to taking the healthier option, is to make it EASIER than the less healthy option. For example, when I'm hungry and tired after a workout, it can be tempting to get a takeaway on my way home. But if I have easy, healthy, tasty food ready to go at home, then I'm way more likely to go straight home and eat that, because it's quicker and easier than going to get a take away.
Hi...El eggs...... Do stretching gains like from PNF stretching also deteriorate if we aren't regular sometimes.....cause I read online that PNF makes changes on the level of brain(increasing the reflex arc etc)....or we can be less cautious about our routine......eager to listen from you🥰
I've found that scheduling a cheat meal once a week makes it much, much easier to eat clean the rest of the time, and knowing how to use herbs and spices makes eating clean less of a chore in the first place.
No, there is no shortcuts. Here I am at 41 humbling myself with how long it took to get back to a decent basic level, nearly 4 months. I will never know how strong I could have gotten younger as I never really pushed myself (wasn't a goal but I got distracted too...). But I know now that it's a every day life habit that I will maintain until I'm gone! Respect your body folks and you'll get to respect yourself. Clear state of mind, happy to feel that you can move freely and so much more. I will need to sleep more...this is still hard to get the habit on this one! Enjoy! Use it or lose it!
When my daughter was born 3 years ago I slacked hard on my routine. I've been trying to get back to it but it's been difficult. I'm grateful for muscle memory bc I cant get mild results back much quicker. But I wish I could get my ass back to the level I was. But at least we are doing somthing! That's better than nothing!
According to several neurologists, anytime you sleep 6 hours or less you are technically sleep-deprived. Shoot for 7.5 hours, not 8 because a full sleep cycle is 90 minutes
@mhaas281 close. I sleep solid. I go to bed around 9 and wake up around 4:30, no interruptions, no grogginess. I often kip outta bed ready to go. If I went for 8 hours and my body wasn't so adjusted to getting perfect sleep cycles, I would wake up groggy and cranky because of that interrupted sleep cycle which messes with your hormones and everything. Duration does matter, according to neurologists. They scan brains and study behaviors so you're partially correct as duration does matter.
sleep cycles can vary, 7,5 hours isn't a good fit for everyone and for every time. It also depends on how hard was the day, on season etc. Recommendations are for 7-9 hours

Great Video El Eggs!
lost my motivation to work out today when work went from 8hrs to 12hrs
gonna try to do it before bed but routines are hard when you get curve balls
make the workout short. Short warmup, 1-2 excerise. you will see result or maintain and have a good fundation for better times.
