ABOUT:
Hi, I'm Wendy, and I have been on a sewing journey ever since my mom taught me how to make little outfits for my dolls. I studied engineering and business, had an office job for two years, and then quit to embark on a lifelong sewing adventure on RUclips. Subscribe to join me on the adventure, and maybe make your own clothing too! Thanks for watching ❤️
My mom said that it’s nice to see younger people sewing as she is teaching me how to sew and we really like the suit 👍
So glad you like it, and yes I want more ppl sewing too!!
Been wearing this blazer EVERY SINGLE DAY since finishing this project. Taking a second to think about that... Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday yes every day. I'm so happy with how it turned out! And feeling proud of the baby steps. I don't share much about projects that scare me but I'm trying to do that more so you know where I'm really at. Thank you for watching!!
withwendy so glad you could finally do something to blazer! You wanted to do it for so long , it looks lovely
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I enjoyed watching this video!!
Can u make more classic stuff like that plz 😭 they’re tough to make and really expensive on stores and aren’t that unique always
can you post more offen
you did such an amazing job !!
Oh my. I remember doing this in the 80's. I got a gorgeous green tweed, small men's suit from Oxfam and made a pencil skirt suit. I loved it. Used to copy the fashions from Vogue.
How do you make skirts out of pants? Please share your wisdom ! ♥️♥️
The blind hem part was very informative thanks for this detailed tutorial
Whew that's a relief, so glad you found it informative :)
Being a large woman, its hard to thrift, so when i shop for clothes (rarely) i make sure i like it enough to wear it until it's literally unusable anymore. Then i usually take it apart and sew it into something else. Thank you for all you've taught me.
Same
Same. I hardly ever find something in my size in thrift shops. Thrift shops are really just for women on the slimmer side, at least the ones I've been to.
Lol, it's impossible. I'd describe my style as comfortable, functional, tonal, and structured. As a chucky chick, the clothes that I want don't exist. Brands just started to make clothes for bigger people that don't look like trash. There really isn't any vintage plus-size stuff. I hate that I am limited to fast fashion. As much as I would LOVE to sew my own clothes, I just don't have the resources to teach myself at the time.
huh lol 80% of the 2nd hand clothes are fat white dudes and gals clothes, i never fit. But then i have the self dicipline to have a size s/xs so i basically fit in everything. (really losing weight is all about calorie deficit lol dont believe the food industry when it comes to losing weight)
@@sannedeheer2120 As much as I agree with the lack of information in the food industry, there are other causes for being fat than a diet. (edit:grammar)
This DIY turned out so lovely, Wendy. If I was a cartoon character, this would be my forever fit. Yay for baby steps!!
Thanks Grace!! I seriously love it a lot which ended up being a much-needed confidence boost. Totally know what you mean by forever fit!!
I really like when you make bags! Could you please make more of those? Maybe talking about how to make the inside seams really strong and durable! Loved your video!
Aw thank you I like making bags too! As soon as I find a new bag style I think I can make there’s gonna be a vid!
Possibly a seamripping tip: instead of pulling all the threads out by hand, go over the ripped seam with the sticky roller that people use to get rid of animal hair or whatnot. I find going back and forth in small sections and pressing down on it gets most of the threads out (though you still have to take some out by hand). :)
I really liked this video! In terms of what I'd like to see, maybe you could find someone curvy/plus size to sew something for? I myself am an 48F-35-48, and I can't seem to fit my boobs properly into anything that's not elastic (I think it's the boob to waist ratio that gives me trouble). So it would be great to see how you tackle it (or maybe see you struggle a bit too, so I can relate 😇)
oh a lint roller!! I am definitely going to give it a try!
I wonder if one of those things for removing cat hair that are made of a directional velvety fabric rather than a lint roller could be better. Would be more environmentally friendly than the ones with the sticky paper on them??
Helen M
I use a toothbrush and suck up the threads with my vacuum cleaner (low setting obviously).
Helen M I have a gel lint roller. So instead of removing layers of paper when it gets full you just wash it off and when it dries it becomes sticky again:)
First video I’ve seen of you and HELL YEAH TO THIS SPONSORSHIP!!! This is the first time I’ve seen such a sponsorship that actually tries to educate the viewers, and I’ve watched a bunch if thrift videos😂 so thank you so so much, as well as for the diy since i might actually wanna try it out one day😆
"There is room for food....we gooooodddd" I snorted my tea. Thank you. (p.s. we totally live in the same neighborhood)
2:25
Me too :) That was my favourite moment of the whole show!
It's important!
Hey I know that area too!
I loooooove the thrift flip especially when Wendy explains (if you purchased new fabric) how to make patterns from your own clothes! & she often adjust the pattern and explains why and how. Love you Wendy!!
PLEASE, don't be afraid of blazers or suits!! The best way to learn about it. it is to buy a real tailor suit and deconstruct it!! to see how the process of putting it together really is, and the type of lining, underlining, buttons, pockets and all that fun stuff.. and algo, the ending or hem is almost everytime made by hand!!
Ugh, so fresh! I love the contrast of the short, more fitted skirt with looser top.
Hey Wendy! With a high quality, sharp stitch ripper, a steady hand, and some scotch tape it’s a lot easier to remove seams! Unpick a couple of stitches to start and then position your seam ripper between the two layers of fabric (with the blade against the stitches). While pulling the fabric apart from each other, move the stitch ripper in one clean motion to cut a larger amount of stitches in one clean go. You have to have a steady hand to make sure you don’t cut the fabric but it saves so much time! When you are done, use tape to pick up the cut thread from the fabric (sort of like the tape based lint brushes). This should save you a ton of time and make seam removal more bearable! Hope this helps!
I like how light that blazer looks! Like an spring/early summer piece
WENDY. you never fail to amaze and inspire me!! Every time I watch one of your videos I feel like sewing again. Love the blazer and skirt set, and love the end result montage!!
Thank you ❤️❤️ your words are so motivating to me!
your videos make me so motivated to make my own clothes, whether it be thrifted clothes, revamping my old clothes, or making them from scratch! you’re such a huge motivation for me and i just wanna say i love your videos!
Omg you can totally elevate this look/ give it a casual twist with a SCRUNCHIEEEE
Never thought about blind hemming sleeve lining, but yeah. I like your idea of lengthening it also. The hem make over quick and finished. Thanks for these ideas.
I actually LOVE seam ripping. I find it very relaxing to just take apart piece of clothing.
1. i adored this! sustainable fashion is something i’m very passionate about so this video was a score. 2. your voice is amazing!!
To anyone who struggles shopping secondhand irl, i’d recommend trying out depop or poshmark. They’re online used clothing sites similar to etsy I guess but there’s a real sense of community. The sizes are more inclusive and it’s really easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. I’ve been selling and buying on depop for ages now and I haven’t had any problems. You can find really unique pieces and sell the clothes you don’t want anymore. It’s better to sell your unwanted clothing than donate it as if the thrift store can’t sell it or are overloaded with donations it just goes to landfill. You could even sell your clothes and donate the money to charity, which would be so cool.
I actually love seam ripping, it's kinda relaxing. I rarely ever sew, but my godmother is a seamstress, and I always help her out with seam ripping. Teamwork!
the pink lining was such a sweet surprise, i love the colour combo with the olive!!!
Girl you deserve a million. You rock. I've been following you for a while and every project I make looks more professional thanks to you
This was great!! I grew up sewing so I’m familiar with the process BUT I only made things from patterns...I’m ready to give thrifting a try after many years away from my sewing machine! Thanks for the inspiration and tutorials!
The fact that you support waste reduction means that you got me as a subscriber💕 plus bombass diys ugh, can't ask for more
I've been upcycling for decades, before it had a name. So rewarding. Love what you did.
I actually love seam ripping. I find it really satisfying
I feel braver after watching your tutorials
Well done. That frumpy old suit is now coooool!
I love the pink lining. So pretty
I really liked how you changed the lining in the sleeve.
i actually really like the before look too with the long skirt but i like the mini skirt look too, good job!
That jacket is so cute... Very 80s looking... and the dance is 80s too. Very cool.
I love your dances at the end! Such confidence and beauty! 😍
Loved it! I think I liked that maxi skirt as well before the big chop!
Nice job! Seamripper tip.. if the short side has a rounded ball on it, in theory you should be able zip right up to cut the threads. I do use this technique but I’m not confident enough to make it all the way, but it does speed up the process even when I stop 2 or 3 times. You inspire me to change my thrift finds into what I like! Thank you!
Thanks for showing us the whole thought process, even the mistakes, it real helps me understand what you've done here :)
That skirt is EVERYTHING
Best idea of the tutorial is the finished diy happy dance, so doing to incorporate in my sewing routine! Never celebrated small/not so small victories enough! Lol good job a suit is so intimidating to me... Maybe one day...
You’re indeed the queen of thriftflips! They look so professionally done and cute! 😍
I really like your videos, because I feel like there's a lot of DIY RUclipsrs who don't care about how polluting clothes industry can be, and just keep on buying new clothes that they never wear :)
I straight love your channel girllll! “Baby steps to build my confidence” 🔥
her voice is so soothing oh my goddd
When I sew, I use mini hair clippers (from the men section) to seam rip. It works wonderful. I learned it from my mentor, she’s amazing.
I am obsessed!!! 😍 I just got a custom blazer made and I kinda wish I had sewing skills so I could make something like this.
Could you make a video on a prom dress with lace applications? You're great at making pretty dresses! I would love to see your take on it and I really like your style of videos, they're easy to follow and well though of! ❤️
I'm loving the vibes of this video and its 'let's not be wasteful' message. Keep growing your confidence :)
“Trying to keep things as straight as possible” Me when I have to act straight around my conservative family
I hope it's something you'll be able to talk about someday with them! Thanks so much for watching
withwendy aww thank you. I hope so too.
I loved this video btw. I always love your videos cause they’re so calming and enjoyable to watch❤️
I feel
Repent from your sins and follow Jesus Christ. He died on a cross and rose again to offer you God’s forgiveness so you can have eternal life
“"Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

So cool to be sponsored by Value Village! Even if their prices are a little higher than other thrift stores, it's reassuring to know that they put money towards raising awareness of waste, water issues, etc. ! Love your final product, and great to learn about the blind hem! :)
I LOVE seam ripping-so relaxing. I would gladly do it for others .
I have never seen a sleeve that was partially lined. I love the DYI; it gave the suite a new “life”.
I would love to see if you can DIY a windbreaker. I’m planning on making one for myself but there isn’t any good tutorials on RUclips at the moment. I learn from your videos, they’re so clear and informative ❤️ Looove how this turned out
Seamripping is torture! I usually listen to music or an audiobook while i seamrip away.
Same! Anything to get my brain thinking about something else 😂
Jo Anne Arcalas I use a razor blade and it's super fast.
@@withwendy i hate seamripping its a pain
Thanks for showing me a better way to hem the skirt using the old hem. I always have problems with getting a nice hem job done.
Your tutorials are so detailed but easy to follow! thank you for that. you are one of my favorite diy youtubers
Dear Wendy your videos teach me and inspire me. Thank you 🙏🏻 God bless you
I love how you've changed the sleeves, such a nifty and clever idea xx
I knew your channel yesterday I can't stop watching your videos! You are awesome, and has inspired me a lot! Lilia ( frim São Paulo -Brazil) 😘👏🏻
Talented human. 4 ur art but also ur ability 2 teach. Peace n light 2 u always
Just got a new job that’ll require some in-person meetings a few times a year; definitely gonna try this! Thanks!
omg a little pink satin tank out of that fabric to match would be perfect!
On seam ripping: when I learned to sew in college, my instructor told us to increase the seam length from the default (my machine sits at 2.2 so I increase it to 3.0). It makes seam ripping a lot easier and faster if you know you're experimenting with things and may need to undo it. Also, if you cut the bobbin thread, you can usually pull that whole thread out in one go.
please do a series on how to DIY clothes for a professional setting!! i personally am having a hard time finding things for work without breaking the bank/resorting to fast fashion, which i always end up feeling guilty about. i love the little blind foot bit that you put in this video, will definitely try it out for sure! the editing and aesthetic was on point, as usual! ❤️
im so glad i found your channel today! it was kinda a stressful day, i finished my essay at 2am and went for an 8am class TT your videos calmed me down and made my day
I think this would look really cool if it was a matching blazer and shorts. I think it would look really cute
Your videos are always so aesthetically pleasing, it's relaxing to watch whilst at the same time make me wanna sew again at this instant ;) thanks!
I loooove you DIYs & transformations Wendy, I thrift a lot & this video encourages me to want to start transforming the things I get into even ccooler outfits!
WOW that’s so nice! Heading for the thrift store and blazer set section asap! 😍
loved this! I found a similar long skirt I thrifted with the buttons down the front plus the front slit, i plan on doing a similar update! wonderful contrast color choice!
I could watch this all daaaay 💓 Annnd I used to watch your videos way back and I suddenly wanted to watch thrifting vids and I remembered you and I'm so happy to find you again. Will definitely binge watch ♥
I love the ending editing of the before and after!
It looks so 90’s look , it’s beautiful
THIS IS SO COOL! Exactly the kind of item people wish they could find but can’t bc it doesn’t exist haha. Guess I have to learn how to make it :-) for your next vid, can you make pants that have different patterns on each leg? Essentially two different pants fused together
sahkanoodo try cooliripas videos- she made two tone dungarees!
You’re so talented Wendy ! Thank you for all these sewing tips and inspiration
omgg love it!! olive green is my fave colour and really love it in tiny plaid, my dreammm
I Love Value Village! I’m from the UK and when I go to Atlanta I get my boys lots of t shirts and basketball shorts from there 🤗 xx
It's amazing!
That is SUCH a cute look!! Love this transformation!
you girlboss! absolutely amazing. it's the scary projects that are so so worth doing.
I loved this so much!! I would love to see more thrift glow ups ✨
I love the name "thrift glow up"! Yes I wanna do more!
withwendy make a cute little series out out of it when you find cute thrift clothing to glow up ✨ I'm honestly just happy to see you update what ever you like as well! I got back into sewing because I found your channel and got inspired to incorporate it into my screen printing
I would love to see more Blazer up cycles, maybe doing some tailoring.
I’m really afraid of seeing bc so far all I did was break the sewing machines. (Yes multiple)
But I love thrifting and need to change some shirts. This tutorial made me wanna start again. ♥️
Who knew that the littlest things can make the biggest difference!
Fantastic video!!!!! My neighbor gave me her old hem foot for my “new” old industrial sewing machine, but I had no idea how to attach it to the machine. Now that you showed us in this video where it belongs, I will attempt to attach it to mine.
I can barely sew, but this is so cool ive been watching your videos all day
i love how your videos are made! and obviously how you sew. you're a genius!
Love the button detail though! Very cute! Wow! Nice!
Wendy, I'm just watching you on Stitched
I don't know how old this is, but I got so thrilled when I saw you
It turned out really really good!!!
So glad you did the blind hem!
whenever I'm sewing I'm usually always listening to music (I feel like I always have to be doing something while listening to music...if that makes sense...) and when ever I have to do a whole bunch of seam ripping I just use that time to listen to my music longer :) and for me that's really exciting lol. btw your channel is super inspiring
I love how it turned out but the skirt is my favorite part
I can watch your videos all day! You are so talented
I looove your thrift update!! I’d love to see more!
Also I just love your videos, they’re so pretty and artistically done! Keep it up Wendy!
I just took in a thrift skirt and could have benefited so much from this video! Agh!! At least I know what to do if I ever want to take on the blazer I got as well...
Lol I love seam ripping it’s so gratifying, maybe just me. Also I use a box cutter to seam rip, just keeping the fabric flat or taut and just sliding the cutter across, seems way faster and easier to me rather than ripping one thread @ a time.
I'd love to see you do more with pants, I feel like they're a little more complicated so there's fewer vids on RUclips that are helpful and good quality (like yours are!)
I wish I was on the same level of sewing as you 😻 this is totally the cutest diy thrift I’ve seen 👏
Hahaha. The seam ripper comment is all the feels in the world...totally relatable. 😅🤣 lol.
