Despite what the fan base wants you to believe
the 2007 film did more good than harm, the movie revolutionised the transformers franchise by introducing new concepts that would later be staples in the franchise, like introducing the Allspark, bringing Bumblebee back to the spotlight, and bringing back Peter Cullen to reprise Optimus Prime

I was 11 when the first movie came out. Without it I would not have watched the G1 cartoons or the 86 Movie or Armada or Energon or read the IDW comics, I could go on and on but the point is, if it wasn't for Michael Bay I would not be the die hard fan I am today.

Not only do I love these films, they gave me something no other franchise has done so well. They really got my best friend to start to really like Transformers. I also like how proud Bay is to have gotten a whole new group of people, a new generation. When I first watched the 2007 movie I fell in love. I knew these characters from G1, and was happy to have unique, new versions of my favourite bots, Optimus, Ratchet, Starscream, all on the big screen. Without these movies, I would’ve never watched Prime, Animated, Armada, the 86 movie, and even Cyberverse. I wouldn’t have gotten to know the wonderful group of people that love this franchise, from my friend that just started watching G1, to bigger RUclipsrs like Diamondbolt, PerspectiveEnd, Emperor Kumquat, Theorymus, and Paper Plane. Dispute not being the best person on the planet, the entire team behind these movies, actors, voice actors, Bay, the CGI animators and artists, and even the entire US military all worked together to bring Transformers back to the mainstream in a big way. For the sake of this whole fandom, I hope Rise of the Beasts brings myself, and new fans across the world, the same joy that Dark of the Moon did.

I’m grateful to have any RUclipsrs that do talk about the movies that isn’t just “the bay movies bad” such as trantheories, even though it seems hard to find any RUclipsr that actually like the movies or talk interesting stuff about the movies that’s again not just “the movies are bad” and now I’m seeing people say ROTB will be like the bay films too.

This is genuinely one of the best video essays I've ever seen on RUclips about anything!
This is some of the most objective and subjective look at the Transformers movies yet!
Yes, we've all heard and we all know the flaws and shortcomings these movies have. It's all been said over and over and over again...
But to have something new to say about these decade old movies and for it to come from such a genuine and authentic place is so eye opening to me.
I grew up with the Michael Bay Transformers movies and if it wasn't for them I would've never become a fan of the franchise. As I grew up, I saw that the fanbase HATED these movies, calling them stupid, racist, dumb, NOT good Transformers movies yada-yada-yada... I was heartbroken!
I was heartbroken that the same people who call themselves fans disliked the movies that made ME a fan. I started hating on them as well, I started seeing the flaws, started to really dislike the thing that made me love in the first place. I started watching the "REAL" Transformers media that "REAL" fans watched and loved. I liked them for the most part (G1, the 86 movie, Beast Wars) and I genuinely enjoyed them, believing that this is what Transformers is actually about.
Now as I grew even older and finally got a grasp on how movies are made and how extremely difficult it is and more so creatively speaking, I think Michael Bay gave it his all! Yes, he wasn't "THE GUY" for the Transformers franchise, but these movies? These movies are his BABIES and he loves them very very much! He looked after them, he nurtured them, he LOVED them! And to know that his passion and love touched me on an emotional level when I was yonger and didn't know a lot about anything, just goes to show that he did something RIGHT!

I recently rewatched the first three movies after like 13 years form when I first watched them as a 5 year old and I'm ashamed to admit that I enjoyed them in a strange way. It might be nostalgia, but I was solidly entertained by the weird, juvenile and ridiculous over the top energy of both the action scenes and the human dialouge with some ironic enjoyment sprinkled in. Like I know they aren't high art and when I was enjoying myself watching the universally panned second one, it made me question myself if I'm plain stupid or have bad taste. Related to this when I was talking to a friend about recent movies we watched, me mentioning Dark of The Moon made me feel legitimately embarrassed. I'm glad that I now came to peace with enjoying low art turn your brain off movies and that I'm not the only one. Also they're pretty quotable and it's worth noting that when they came out, they introduced a new generation to the franchise wich included me, so that's something. Hope this brick of words from a foreign person is readable. In the end good video.

Never understood the phrase "turn your brain off" movies. When I watch a movie especially in the theater I'm focused in on what's on screen I don't just turn my brain off. The people who say turn your brain off I don't think find these generalized films (blockbusters) as films worthy of paying attention in the theater.
What's funny is sometimes you'll have people say certain elements or motivations for characters don't make sense and weren't explained. Then when you ask them if they actually watched the movie they'll respond "why would I have paid attention it's just mindless action."
That's more suspect to me whose the ones turning their brains off then and what makes these kind of blockbusters unworthy of paying attention to vs other films that try and be dramas. It's as if only movies with people talking for most of it with drama or melodrama is worth paying attention to which is harmful to movies in my opinion.

I've always had a soft spot for the Micheal Bay films, I've been super nostalgic for them, and I still remember them to this day. As someone who experienced the 2010's, these movies were basically my intoduction to Transofrmers as a whole. Even though I'm not much of a Transformer guy anymore and I've shifted to new hobies and interests, I will never forget these movies. I have all of the films on DVD (Except for the BumbleBee movie, although Micheal Bay didn't direct that one if I remember correctly), and It's so I still have them on me. I'm mainly talking about the first three of Bayformer, since Those are the ones I mainly remember. Even then, I remember when AOE and TLK were brand new. I used to own some TLK shirts when I was younger. (Only one I specifically remember is an obvious "optimistic" pun). I remember being obsessed with Transformers made Lego around that time. (of course I DO own the Optimus lego set)
For some reason, despite the hate for ROTF, I remember actually liking ROTF. In fact, dare I say, I remember it being my favorite of all the Bay films.
While I understand if anyone is more nostalgic for the G1 era, these movies were part of my young childhood, and they remain in my memories.

I know many people my age could relate to this when they were younger but telling people they were into transformers was always such a hard thing to do and often was just looked down upon or childish. I recall making the unfortunate mistake of telling fellow classmates about my transformers review channel in middle school and that’s when bullying started. And yet oddly enough through all of that, I just kept moving along and making videos and enjoying the franchise I loved because the community around it was always as eager as me to share their excitement for it. I think that says a lot about how much these people cared, and how it inspired them to push forward despite what others may think.:.

One of the biggest things I loved about the Bayfilms is the crazy, outlandish and alien designs of the Transformers. When I was a kid, it caught my attention immediately because I loved (still do) aliens and humanoid aliens with distinct, mysterious cultures. I remember watching the Bayverse Transformers and completely teleporting to a different world, even if it made me very paranoid as a kid that a car on the road would randomly transform and blow something up. A big part of what did that is the crazy loud designs despite not being super colorful even though a lot of people don't like them. Some of my favorite designs are some of the most hated designs too, like the flying dorito, the unicycle robot women and robot Einstein. They're exciting and interesting. Over the years, I've come to love them more and more especially as the fandom moves towards this Return to G1 which gave me near immediate burnout when I knew what to expect. Even with RotB, there's only a few Transformers that I really want to see but I'm sure they won't get a lot of screen time, Pablo, Nightbird, Battletrap and Scourge are really the only ones I'm really curious about and/or want to see.
When it comes to the live action, I have and always will love the first three Bayfilms. Anything after that, Bumblebee included, hasn't really done it for me since

What i love is how alien the transformers in the movies are, and how the Decepticons and Autobots distinguish themselves based on their ideologies. Ofc the decepticons have unreadable, insectoid and even horrifying faces, because thats what they are and they dont care to hide their true selves, unlike the Autobots, who changed their faces to look humanoid and assimilate themselves with human culture to show that they are not here to harm us. Only when they were threatening humans would they speak English (except Nitro zeus, who wants Enriques wife to know he says hi), while the Autobots never spoke cybertronian while on screen. They have tattoos, which implies art and creativity on Cybertron, smth we dont see a lot in most transformers media that isnt the comics. I just love it all, dont get me started on how all the minicons with the Decepticons are clearly much more appreciated than the ones with the Autobots, and also how ravage is a giant 7 ft kitty i-

The balance of humor and seriousness feels just right. The jokes don't feel too cheesy and are usually at least entertaining. I love most of the human characters. Sam is my favorite, his parents are f***ing hilarious too (except for when sams mom was high at his college that was cringy i aint gonna lie). Simmons is such a fun character, and the military scenes in the first 3 movies are incredible. I love how the humans can actually fight back and get progressively better over the course of the movies. The CGI is the best I've ever seen. The fact that I'm able to immerse myself in these films and not feel any sort of uncanny valley effect is insane.

Gonna just paste this comment I made on a video about Bayverse Optimus because I feel it's relevant here:
'Yeeaaah, G1 fans can cry about his characterization all they want- I cry about it a lot too -but the fact of the matter is, it's thanks to this guy that Transformers got so much life breathed into it's mainstream presence. War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron, Prime, Bumblebee, Devastation, all the stuff that's come out in recent years that Transformers fans love? Yeah, we have Murder Prime to thank for it. Watching Optimus shred Deceptions in a summer block busting trilogy is what reignited the average joe's interest in Transformers, not Able Lincoln Optimus preaching about peace and playing basket ball. (Stuff that I love, don't get me wrong) People saw Bay's Optimus and went "Damn, this Transformers stuff is pretty cool. Let's invest our time, interest and money into it". The guy deserves respect for that much, mane.'
In addition, I'll also add to it by saying that the first Michael Bay Transformers movie was genuinely a good film. Not perfect, but more earnest and source-accurate than people give it credit for. It even has a decent score on Metacritic. It had incredible FX for the time that still hold up now, a fun and terrifying take on Decepticons- That admittedly got stale as more and more sequels got shat out -and a *very* accurate interpretation of Optimus Prime who put peace first unless humans were in danger. The franchise didn't go down hill until the sequels, starting with Revenge of the Fallen. If you hate the first one... I think you need to tone down the nostalgia bias and give it another chance, man. If you disagree tho, you disagree. I'm not trynna pick any fights here, I swear.

Not what I look for in transformers movies, or transformers stories and characters in general, but they certainly made Transformers at least be a bigger known franchise. It's a lot like what people view as the worst of Snyderverse, movies that conflict with what the fanbase want for their own ideal movie franchise over time once the honeymoon period is down. But the engagement and craft to those movies are PEAK.

Every critic (especially on RUclips) acts like they only have the highest and most exquisite taste in film, but the fact is people can enjoy action films with big explosions, impressive CGI that holds up after all these years, and practical effects that could've EASILY been done in a CGI sound set and most likely would have if these were made today (not a dig against ROTB, I'm excited for that movie, and I can't wait to see it).
But for people to act like these are a sin against cinema, or that this hurts the Transformers franchise... clearly not true. These movies made billions of dollars, it revitalized the Transformers franchise when it was at its lowest point, and breathed new life into it, as well as bringing in so many new fans. They aren't perfect, I agree, and I'm not saying you can't criticize them or say why you personally dislike them, and Bay is not the ultimate TF fan, but at the same time, he still gave us thrill-rides to watch in theaters every few Summers, and to this day has inspired many new fans with their stop motion series to make their own stories, whether based on the film continuity, or just their own thing. And they're growing up to become filmmakers, who may very well make their own films for us to see in theaters one day. Maybe future Transformers filmmakers.

I got a DVD of the first transformers film. Watching the behind the scenes was like seeing the Burj Khalifa of filmmaking as a kid to the point where I literally got curious if an actor died on set because of how dangerous the practical effects were. I think I have never seen an action movie that can compete to it besides John Wick.
And in that last portion, Michael bay was right. I rewatched the first two (Soon i'll rewatch 3 and 4) as an adult. And damn do they still make me smile regardless of both critic and youtube hate the sequels received! Not to mention being the sole movie series responsible for brining back Transformers from dying obscurity. I don't know if I would ever watch transformers armada or animated series because studio execs never gave a greenlight to make the film. I don't know if I'll ever buy an action figure of both optimus and megatron as a kid. Heck call this conspiratiorial connection. But this movie series seems to have born my favoritism of really obscure characters. Like Braw/Devastator (The tank, not the construction abomination with wrecking balls for testes) and Blackout. And countless unpopular characters outside transformers media

Honestly I've always felt nostalgic for the Bayformers films (but I wouldn't call it the best Transformers content--that would go to TFA). It wasn't always a hit, but when it was, it was ON POINT. I also think the spectacle--at least in the first 3 films anyways--was always masterfully done and sure, the designs weren't the greatest, but hot DAMN did the CGI look good. There's just a lot of shots in the Transformers films that look like absolute eye candy (the car shots were what made me absolutely love vehicle modes for the Transformers). And again, action scenes were fire. The forest battle in 2, Chicago in 3, Mission City in 1--they were stellar.
(Also the first film shared so much with Animated and that was so FUCKING COOL. Transformers continuities where the Autobots are portrayed as underdogs and more like civilians against Military is cool as hell)

I loved the first 3 movies, especially the first one. I don't even think 4 and 5 are bad, just not as good as 1-3. I mean you get the robots in disguise in the first movie, you get the military reaction to them in the second while trying to hide from the general public, and then the whole world's reaction in 3. The transformers look so damn good and so does the rest of the movie. The plots are fun and engaging. If they were really bad then people just wouldn't talk about them anymore but people still are.

Dude I swear that day we watched that featurette on discord was a rough script for this video!!! I owe my channel, my collection, my channel, friendships, discovery of g1, everything to the bayverse. People need to get out with the “oh they suck” no. They have problems. If you read idw it makes you enjoy the movies wayyyyy more. One of these days I’m gonna break that down on my channel one day Dark of the moon is a genuinely good film and I will defend it endlessly. Awesome video. Gets me right here❤

I love all 7 of the Transformers even if Bumblebee's film is not called Transformers. All those films has some of the best fights. Love seeing Optimus Prime always on Screen. He will forever be my favorite in the Transformers Universe.

I honestly grew up with these movies. They left a impact on me so much it made me love Robots and Mecha, and honestly even with the reputation of the 5th film. I wished this series continued, this was Bay's child that is now left unattended. I liked bumblebee and ROTB but they don't feel special to me than what the bayverse did.
I really do hope they find a way to end the bayverse with 1 more film. I don't care if its made by another producer or they redo the designs, just end it with a bang that would make all the films a classic to watch.

2007 and DOTM are both amazing in my opinion. Sure, they may not be fine art, by they are so spectacular, memorable and just entertaining, that I can't help adoring them. This may seem crazy, but I'd put both of them in my top 10 movies of all time.
ROTF and AOE are also underrated and at least okay in my eyes.
TLK is pretty terrible, but even it has some redeeming qualities.

I genuinely really like the 2007 movie. And while I don’t like the others, they still have great scenes, like Prime vs Megatron, Starscream, and Grindor, and as you said, the building scene from DotM.

I still don't get how so many people hate you for liking the bayverse transformers movies. Yes the movies weren't perfect, but I actually enjoyed them, and got hyped everytime a new trailer got announced. And i still watch them cause it has lots of action and characters that i grew up loving. They bring a sence of nostalgia everytime i rewatch them. 🚙🤖

I saw several trailers for these movies, and they peaked my interest of this concept of mechanical robots turning into trucks, planes, dinosaurs, and more. Eventually, I watched the G1 movie and became enthralled. I’m currently watching G1, and I do admit, these movies are the only reason I discovered Transformers.

Yes, why wouldn't it be okay to like a movie? Because what society says should dictate my tastes?

These movies, like many people, introduced me to Transformers. Obviously, I have a lot of nostalgia for them but over time, as I got deeper into the fandom and deeper into the lore and deeper into the stories that Transformers can have at its peak, I felt forced to hate these movies. Ya know "This isn't my Optimus!", " The transformers aren't even real characters here!". I've definitely backed off from being so critical recently but I still held that deep distaste for them. I still have my many criticisms for them but I don't think I've ever hated them, not really. I felt like I had to hate them to be a real fan but, ya know what, you're right, the movies are fun. Not only did they introduce me to what is now my favorite franchise but they were so passionately their own thing and had fun just being that regardless of what anyone says about them. And while, yeah, the last 2 still very clearly lose that creative fun spark and that warm feeling of smashing your toys together that the OG trilogy had and that really sucks, I feel like because of this video I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that I can enjoy something that makes me happy even if other people think it's stupid. Sometimes it's fun to just watch big dumb robot punch other big dumb robot and that's okay. Now, having said that I don't think it's unreasonable to want higher quality going forward. We can both appreciate what we had and want better.

this video made me so happy and i thank you so much for putting your time into making this
i've really liked the movies since i was a kid but stopped interacting with the fandom bc i was cyberbullied by "Real True Transformers Fans"
so seeing your take as someone who formerly hated them, open up and be more accepting has really made my day. i understand why a lot of people don't like them, i'm not ignorant to it, they're quite flawed in many ways. but, for the reasons you've pointed out, i enjoy them. they're fun, the different transformer's personalities all interacting was a blast to watch.
thank you so much for being open minded. i hope more fans can begin to be like that, even if they don't like them (again, for completely valid reasons)

People who complain about the cgi in Transformers confuse me. For 2007 and in general...Transformers has the best integration of CGI model interaction with humans/real world objects of any movie i've ever seen lol

This reminds me of one time when I watched the behind the scene of 2007 Transformers film. I realize the feelings that you said because it felt like everyone was having fun making the film and bringing the Transformers into the big screen for the first time. When seeing the final product of how the Transformers looks, I can feel the effort put into that as you mentioned here. Like, I understand these movies' quality aren't the best, but seeing what it takes behind the scene can give me a sense of appreciation. The trilogy is still fun to watch, and I surely will see them every once in a while.
