@@mikesmith-wk7vy I use to think the same thing, any thing above $2000 and your just paying for the name...Nope I was so wrong. I have a friend that shoots Major open division. He has a SV Infinity 2011 w/ sight tracker barrel,5 ports in .38 super comp. Hardball fit to the frame and the Cheely grip. The gun had Has 1lb 12 oz trigger. It would run around well north of $4k to have built and I'll tell you the first time I shot it my jaw dropped. It is unbelievable how accurate and smooth a properly built Major open gun can run and before I shot one I thought no way it could be worth the price but now I know a properly built one is worth every penny up to and over the $7000 a custom a open major 2011 would cost nowadays to be built if you can get on a waiting list.

Get a glock, upgrade it (because that's a lot of high end guns nowadays anyway), still have a lot left, spend it on ammo, don't just dump it, train properly, but more than you would otherwise Bam, comp gun
4k can definitely buy a lot of cool guns I can get a M1911 in .45, a M2011 in 10mm, a Glock 19 and a Sig P365 All with 2 boxes of ammo, and a red dot if you want one Oh well
@Bob McCaskill what's that got to do with the price of tea? Everyone talks up their favorite guns, even if they're trash. You definitely get more from a "this is a waste" type video than the typical hype vids.
I'm glad for these types of lists because as a guy living outside the USA, any gun I purchase is at least 3X the price. So I have to know whats good or not lol.
Well, I live in California, and I don't think it's technically part of the USA, because here, we don't have permission from our great state leaders to purchase about 90% of the firearms that are available to free-USA residents. PLUS, if we ARE granted permission to purchase something, there's usually a 200-300 higher price on it than in those free-er states. In fact the LAPD is going with a pistol that is not on California's "safe handgun roster". But they're allowed to use an "unsafe" handgun because they're the popo. lol Makes TOTAL sense!
Thats rough, it sounds like California has stricter gun laws that most other countries. Politicians should remember that all those laws won't make a difference to criminals.
You're unapologetic, unfiltered and honest complaints prove that there is never any "Kiss-assery" towards any company or brand. Putting a CZ on the list should hammer the statement. Always a fan. God Bless you both, JB
To be fair, I believe it was built in house at CZ Custom in America. Not necessarily CZ. CZ website does show them in their catalogue though so they must stand by them.
I just picked up a CZ97B yesterday and got 4 compliments on my choice while I was there from the staff and other customers. Haven't shot it yet but I have gotten a feel for it using snap caps and I can't wait to take it to the range
Love the realistic and true video not many channels are willing to give the community a true review and as an Aussie that pays 3x more for a firearm it's a huge help
Carlos Hathcock achieved his legendary kill count with a factory hunting rifle that turned out to only shoot about 4 MOA. Let that sink in as you consider spending a large sum of money to "upgrade" something in your gun...
Familiarity counts for A LOT with firearms. Knowing how a weapon recoils, precisely where the trigger breaks, and knowing where a round is going just by the feel of the recoil makes loads of difference in shooting.
But but the internet dictates if it cant shoot sub moa at the two mile mark its obsolete and no one should even be allowed to view pictures of it at the museum let alone own one!
He used a model 70 Winchester, I believe I could be wrong. I make the same argument for my mini 14. Mine shoots between 1.25 and 2.5 MOA and it's consistent with all types of ammo. I own very expensive AR's, an FN SCAR 17, several mid tier AR's and some cheap AR's as well. With the exception of my larue and my LWRC, all my AR's shoot about the same, between 1 and 2.5 MOA. My mini shoots just as good. So I make the argument that you're making, 75%of shooting, is the shooter.. Could be more, but I'm giving precision firearms their due..
I appreciate your honesty in this video. When somebody is coming at you armed or unarmed, you need it to work first time, every time. Just that one little jam could cost you your life.
It looks like there's a pattern here. Never buy an expensive gun unless it's got very high reviews by multiple reviewers. If you buy a $200 gun that is a lemon it's almost more fun trying to tweak it and experiment and hone your skills.
Too many high end guns go for cosmetics, ala cool or tactical, whatever. The LGS I worked at sold a variety of 1911 brands. Kimber always got looks but Remington, Springfield Inc and Colt (if you could find one) made as good and usually better 1911's for the money. Remington 1911 was a sleeper. Ruger 1911 isn't too shabby either. I'd rather put extra money into Wilson Combat 8rd magazines than pretty doodads in the grips.
Honestly agree haha. I remember doing everything conceivable to make my cousins hi-point run better just for shits and giggles get a lot braver with sandpaper when the gun in cheaper than a tv
@@NosferatuXGutts agreed. I bought a $200 FMK . Looked pretty good. Felt pretty good in the hand. But it had some issues. I did not hesitate to take a little sandpaper to the seam in the molding to smooth it out and make it more comfortable. A Dremel to the undercut of the trigger guard. Paint the sights ( just a dot of fluorescent paint with a toothpick ) Change the recoil spring. Attempt to polish a couple parts. It shot good and I didn't lose a dime when I sold it.
Eh? Just dont buy expensive gun if you have no desire of winning a medal or something. Just like our revolver competition. Everyone use Manurhin. Expensive guns are there for winning trophy or medal because you are there to compete against other people who most likely more skilled than you are and you only have one chance.
And for all those people that overuse the cliche of "would you trust your life with it". I say no ! There is not a firearm made that I'd trust my life to. This isn't a Hollywood movie. You're not going to draw and drop two or three assailants in a Split Second. You better have a back-up plan for you and your family's life.
My.. “I eff’ed up gun” was the Bren 805. I had saved up 2K for an AUG and was about to buy one when the Bren 805 came out and all the usual RUclips suspects came out and said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread so I bought one. Yeah it was a decent gun and reliable but it didn't do anything any of my ARs didn't do better. It was heavier, I didn't like the grip or the trigger, the handguard was sharp pic rail, it was longer than an AR with the stock fully collapsed and I know it's user error but that reciprocating charging handle bit me one too many times. Luckily I ran across a local guy with AUG that wanted to trade for the Bren.
Was your Bren a 7.62 x 39? They did have a lot of problems with that and issued a recall. I believe it was send it in to be repaired or they old buy it back. Not 100% sure. I have one of the later model Brens in 223 and love it but I steered way clear of the 7.62 one
I get what you're saying about the FN and the trigger hype. A few years back I got reeled into the Sphinx SDP hype. The absolute worst DA trigger I've ever felt. SA was okay but the DA was like pulling my dog into his vets office.
It's unfortunate the gun was so bad, but at least you got an awesome metaphor out of it- "the trigger was like pulling my dog into the vet's office". 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hello from the UK, with so many review channels so often without the real, hard background experience, it is extremely impressive to see someone who really knows what they are talking about and can in short words provide a meaningful context. Just such a shame that reviewers in so many other disciplines dont have the same knowledge and expertise, long may you reign!
Thank you for the great video post. You’re absolutely right about the Gideon Shadow. It’s a true piece of 💩! My friend bought one and told us how great it was, until we met at the range and it showed it’s true colors. It jammed about every 3 rounds, misfired and stovepiped more than a 1911 ever has. A true hunk of 💩. By the end of the day, he wanted to wrap it around a tree and we encouraged it. He traded it off for a beautiful Les Baer 1911 Hemi 572. He definitely won out on that deal. Thanks again for sharing your opinion with us, best of luck 🍀

Eleven years ago I bought a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis and a new RIA 1911A1 GI full size for a combined price of $3200. To this day I drive that car every day and carry that gun every day. Fifty thousand miles and six thousand rounds later, both are still in my good book.
My surprise “not worth the money” is the Wilson Combat EDC X9L. The gun was around $2900, and of course I bought a few extra mags. It has a very picky trigger, in that your finger has to be in just right spot to make the trigger function. The longer slide also has more mass, to the point that I can feel the slide moving back and forth in a way that is unique in all the pistols I have shot, which is not as much as you, but still pretty extensive list. Overall, it’s not a bad gun, but it’s not worth what I paid for it.
It's crazy that you say this. I was looking at the x9l last night and planned to buy it this weekend. Thank you for saying this. This would've been my most expensive purchase to date and I didn't want to he disappointed.

I've had a MSAR since they came out and never had any type of malfunction with it or the magazines or ammo, but i did change the trigger bar which reduced by half. I also bought the left hand eject bolt. I have about 3 to 4 thousand rounds thru it.
Weird, they must've had some serious QC issues. You guys got lucky. I had one, and it was total garbage. All the problems he talked about. Constant jams, mag issues (mine took aug mags), the mag release was awful and you had to completely change your grip and squeeze the lever with serious force to get it to even try to release, and the trigger was horrible, even after modding it. I bought it because I loved the weight distribution and compact design, but it was a nightmare to actually shoot.
Not to pick on your statement, but just want some clarification. If you replaced something and cut the malfunctions in half, then there was a problem, and cut in 1/2 means that even after changing the part, it still malfunctions?
86s fricke, I could copy and paste your comment on the MSAR. That thing eats anything that looks like a 5.56. I have not gotten a left hand bolt (and I should so my buddy can shoot it) but I did get the RatWorx bolt that uses AR parts. The original bolt would bounce hot brass off the brim of my ballcap and skip it off my right cheek. RatWorx bolt sends brass out to 3o'clock. Also put a charging handle from Manticore. That is all my MSAR ever needed other than a good supply of ammo to feed it.
The Gideon Shadow segment makes me want to see a B&T GHM9 1000 round review. They're barely more expensive then cz scorpions these days and are amazing.
in switzerland, the ghm9 is actually cheaper than a scorpion and you would be a retard to buy the later. especially in my position, as i live just 1h in the car away from the manufacturing plant of the ghm9 same goes for apc9 vs mpx. with all the problems i heared about with imported mpx's you would be stupid to buy one over the apc9 which is not only cheaper than the mpx, there is allso a CHF 800 (about 800 USD?) red dot included in the price of the apc9.
I paid $1400 for a Springfield M1A Socom 16. Not worth the money, I don't know if it is so much of a lemon that it deserves to make the list but a $1400 AR platform would have been a much smarter buy on my part. I still like it, but if I had the money over again to do it different, I would.
a lot of people buy an M1A because they expect it to shoot like a National Match Loaded version, only to discovery that bone stock M14s are not remotely match accurate. Just like a govt model 1911, they can be made to shoot lights out but it’s a real to-do.
I'm going to start buying more budget guns. My grand power q100 is amazing. 399 brand new with 4 extra back straps, 3 fifteen round mecgar mags, and 2 extra front sights. Super smooth shooter with the rotating barrel. Even though it's a 9mm, it shoots like a 22. I like it better than my hkvp9sk which was a 700 dollar pistol. And that speaks volumes.
There's gems, but sometimes you do get what you pay for with budget guns. One thing's for sure though: generally speaking, the amount of bang you get for your buck trends downwards as the pricetag goes upwards
The magazine issue in the MSAR happens on the XM17 rifles that take AR mags. AR mags latch on the side, and in the rifle the linkage to the release is plastic which warped when heated up. My mag got stuck also, I sent my stock back to MSAR (when they still existed) and they installed a metal linkage. Fixed the problem.
@@The_Rob_D Personal preference, I'd say. I've sold all my ARs and only have my AUG left cause for me, it does everything an AR does with better balance and better ballistic performance for the size.
@@DrWolfensteinz I can enjoy and respect both. Though the weight balance on the AUG feels much better to me than the balance on the piston driven AR15s I prefer.
@@The_Rob_D I paid around 1700 for mine and I'm quite happy. Haven't found a use for an AR since I bought it. Why use long rifle if short rifle do trick?
My MSAR has been lights out. I got it used, sub 1k, and put the extractor meant for steel cased ammo in it. It's a wolf slinging machine. It's super accurate and I don't burn my hand. It's just a lot of fun.
This was on Guncrafter's Facebook page: I have recently been made aware of a scathing review on our X2 pistol by Chris Randall of Honest Outlaw (HO) Very seldom do I involve myself in forum debates but HO's review is completely erroneous and the statement that our X2 pistol is not worth the money and one of the worst 5 pistols he has tested demands a response from GI. It is obvious from the video that the pistol malfunctions with extended MBX magazines. Our X2 pistols are supplied with Staccato formerly (STI) magazines and the feed ramp is optimized to work with these magazines. In detail, that means that the barrel feed ramp protrudes about .015 into the magwell which allows an earlier pickup of the cartridge and a less steep feed ramp angle. The Staccato magazine has a cutout in the top (front) of the magazine that works extremely well with this setup. The MBX magazines cutout is smaller and not as deep as the Staccato magazine, using MBX magazines require the barrel feed ramp to be "shorter and/or have the bottom right corner radiused for proper clearance between the feed ramp and the magazine. Using the MBX magazine in our X2 will cause the feed ramp to crash into the MBX tube and cause all kinds of feeding issues, it will also dent the feed ramp and leave some nasty gouges in the MBX magazine tube! Further aggravating the situation, using extended magazines that doesn't stop against the bottom of the frame allows for over-inserting the magazine that could make it stick in the pistol, damage the ejector, prevent the slide from going forward and greatly interfere with proper function. When using extended magazines a special magazine release should be installed to prevent over-inserting the magazine. The above are well known facts among gunsmiths and experienced "2011" style pistol users and this is where HO gets into trouble, being oblivious to the proper setup when using other magazines than the supplied Staccato magazines. We can forgive Mr. Randall for his ignorance, he is not a gunsmith (we believe...) but not having the courtesy to contact us before posting such a negative review, and thus allow his mistake to become our problem, is really bad form. We would gladly have explained the situation and set up his X2 to where it would run perfectly with the MBX magazines, they are first class magazines - they just require a tweak to the barrel feed ramp and a different magazine release (for extended magazines). HO has a large following on RUclips, with that comes the responsibility to get the facts right. When Mr. Randall posts a negative review on a particular Glock, FN ....or other pistol from a big manufacturer it is not a huge deal, they will get over it, they sell millions of pistols and have millions of satisfied customers that see things differently than Mr. Randall. However, posting such a damning and flawed review on a custom pistol from a small company that lives and dies by it's reputation is a very serious matter. An apology from Mr. Randall would be welcome and we would really like to be given information from Mr. Randall on how to (privately) contact the new owner of the reviewed pistol so we can polish out the magazine induced dents in the feed ramp and otherwise inspect the pistol for "damage" caused during Alex Zimmermann - Pres. Guncrafter Industries. facebook.com/388252584563155/posts/4290465747675133/
Even if every point they made was true, $4000 isn't worth the money. It doesn't shoot magic nor does it make your GF not crazy anymore. It could work flawlessly everytime, be the most accurate pistol on the market, and it STILL WOULD BE OVERPRICED. I don't blame them for their response, but since I can NEVER afford their product... fuck em. $4k for a pistol? By the gods. It literally does what EVERY pistol does, just perhaps a bit better. Madness. I paid $480 for my AR-15, and it has performed flawlessly. I paid $400(way overpaid, but that was during the Obama gun buy) for my pistol. And my pistol does EXACTLY what the $4000 pistol does. Puts 9mm holes in things. Sorry for the rant, but it is JUST A PISTOL.
Sooo what he’s basically saying is their 4K Gucci gun only works with one specific brand of mags…..yeah hard pass thanks. That’s like saying you’re car won’t take standard readily available gasoline but runs great on unicorn blood. Also don’t talk shit about our product because we are a small company 🙄. Thanks but I’ll stick to my beat to shit Toyota pick up that actually runs.
While they raise valid points, they’re essentially admitting there’s no aftermarket support for a $4,000 pistol. In essence, you could buy 3 top of the line Sig P320s for the price of one of their wunderwaffen and still have money left over for holsters, ammo, and training. You could buy 2 Daniel Defense rifles and still have enough left over for ammo and a training course. Long story short, if a gun costs as much as a used car, you can probably get a far better deal, unless you just have nothing better to burn 4Grand on….
Do any of these companies ever reach out to you if they see these videos and try to rectify the problem by offering to fix or replace the gun? Just curious if you get any feedback from companies about bad reviews.

Surprised to hear about the issues with the MSAR. I had experience with the Gen 3's and had absolutely no problem with them. The only thing that sucks about them is sometimes (but not always) the top two rounds will fly out of the gun with factory mags. Other than that no malfunctions whatsoever. There was a video of a guy torture testing a Gen 3 with a 2k round firing session. I wished Microtech would start making them again since it was a little more affordable that an actual Steyr Aug.
I had one 10 years ago. Great gun. Used the steyr 42rd mags which worked flawlessly compared to the MSAR mags. Never noticed any gas burning my hand. Trigger sucked but there was an aftermarket stainless steel shim that went in the trigger and made it alot better for like 20$. Shot all kinds of ammo only had issues with steel case when used in the MSAR mags. Had to sell it when my car died but I really wish I woulda kept it
I've had an msar for 10 plus years. 0 complaints. Other than it ejects out the wrong side. Because I I'm a right handed guy but shoots rifles left handed lol

Interesting about the msar, I seem to recall that the AUG had magazine problems in the 1980's as well. It got corrected after a few years, but by then the damage had been done...
What damage? The AUG today, is one of the most respected rifles being made. And its popularity is currently shooting through the roof. Any issues that they might’ve had in their very early days are long gone.
I bought an MSAR shortly after they were first released (before Steyr announced that they were rereleasing the AUG, when pre-ban guns were outrageously expensive, and when the MSAR was about $500 brand new). When I took it to the range to sight it in, it went full-auto right out of the box. Not doubling or tripling. Pull the trigger and get a stream of bullets till you let off it. Fortunately that didn't get me in trouble. I sent it back and they replaced the entire fire control group. Made it a totally different gun. The trigger is nowhere near as bad as you'd expect from a bullpup. It eats any ammo I feed it, and I have no problem with mags. Everyone who shoots it loves it. I certainly wouldn't buy one now, but I still don't feel compelled to sell this one because it is actually one of the good ones.
I got rid of every pistol I had except my sig and glock. Love both platforms and decided why have all this different stuff when I can shoot both like an allstar and had the most gear for them. Holsters, lights, etc. Best decision I made

Sig's and Glock's are great guns but there are so many other options out there that are just as good if not better in some instances. Glock's are not the best option unless you want to customize the gun and make your own build. If I wanted a "Glock" pistol that has everything I want right out of the box and is ready to go, I'd go with the Shadow Systems MR 920, DR 920, or the MR 920 War Poet (which comes with a Holosun 507C-X2 red dot sight installed). Sig's are great too, but there are other manufacturers such as Walther, H&K, Arex, Canik, Steyr, S&W, Colt, Ruger, Springfield, etc. that make guns that are all (for the most part anyway) comparable in terms of features, reliability, quality controls, and so on.

Honestly and probably the most I'll ever throw down on a firearm unless it's a significant antique type. Modern firearms offer so much in terms of reliability, functionality, and simple performance, it's really hard to justify a pistol for more than the "standard" $600 price tag.

My A01-LD functions perfectly but then my pistol is still in break in IMO. Maybe its I just know how to hold my tongue in the correct position for it to function? Again, I am in just an n of 1 with a good A01-LD, maybe I got lucky with the one I bought.
@@Clan0fGun oh I agree it's possible honest outlaw just got a bad copy and that's unfortunate. N = 1 to wrote off a firearm isn't fair. I have read some others say they had jams too though.
I'm all for small American gun companies creating works of art and driving good old fashioned American business, as CZ Custom is doing, but I frankly cannot justify spending two times the price of a top-of-the-line production CZ for a totally custom, built from the ground up, CNC-machined handgun that functions _exactly_ the same (or, as in the case of the video, worse than) an equally beautiful - but, not CNC-machined from a block - CZ Shadow 2 or Tactical Sports. There's just no way I'd be willing to spend that much money for so little gain.
[13:14] Appreciate the mention of the CZ P-01. I am fortunate to own the 75B Compact L, which is a essentially a special CZ limited run P-01 with a safety etc., instead of a decocker. Fifty of them went thru Angus Hobdell's CZ Custom, where they did a bunch custom work (eg, trigger, hammer, sights, etc.) and polished all the innards. The result is an awesome firearm (cost about three Glocks) that is my all time favorite handgun.
I owned a regular CZ75, it was my first gun. Accurate, easy to maintain and super reliable with any kind of ammo, only thing I ever had done to it was a mild trigger job. Kind of sad that I sold it (I had to, we can only have 5 guns on our license here), but I got a good price for it; people still recognize CZ as a good brand.
@@Lordofthepoors Individual people, yes it is. People mess up things that they tinker with all the time. A manufacturer charging $3k+ is generally expected to know what they are doing. They shouldn’t be able to screw up a 2011 unless they are trying or are mind bogglingly incompetent. It’s not like the 1911/2011 platform is new and not well understood.
Overall, I would never have even thought about buying any of those guns in the first place. I have never had a stovepipe jam or failure to eject in any of my S&W revolvers.
I bought a S&W Shield EZ. Never worked properly. Slide got stuck in the empty position after 50% of the shots. Mag didn't feed consistently. I called S&W and they acknowledged the issues I was having. Sent it in for repair - it's going to 8 weeks. Moving on . . . .
Informative, upvoted and added to my play list " Guns, old, new, weird..." none of which are by me, Definitely going to have to dig through the videos on this channel.
Hidden gems are any Rock Island Armory gun. I have the M200 38 special revolver. Paid $219 brand new, and trigger pull, both single and double action is great, reliable, accurate for fixed sights. Great gun for the money.
New Colt python not reliable, cz bren 2ms 762x39 8"not reliable, sig mpx not accurate. Glock 44 not reliable. Sig 320 lawsuit. That's my top 5 I regret buying
i have been allowed to use an AUG a few times, a friends father and uncle have licences to have full auto arms due to their line of work, so i have gotten to fire a few guns most people havent..also some that are just weird or rare... vss, svu, real ones, turned out they traded some guns with a former russian military officer years ago, it was fun times back in the day... the aug... in some ways it was fun... the swappable barrel setup was interesting, we didnt fire it as much a splanned when the optic failed(shit inside broke lose..) and.. well we had other guns we wanted to fire more.. (he was not happy, that optic was brand new, and expensive as hell...) and the zip22 should be on the list of "worst 'guns' ever made"... they really are that bad... every person i know whos had one, had it as a 'meme gun' and nothing more... i managed 5 rounds before it jammed on the best try..yes it really is, that bad.. LOL.. jamms like hell.. the worst gun i personally had the displeasure of firing was an amazingly expensive semi-auto hunting rifle... everybody spent the day trying to figure out why it felt so bad to use... bad balance, bad recoil alignment, among other things..also..it wasnt as reliable as guns a fraction of the price using the same ammo... real head scratcher... i mean sure the stock was hard wood... but the poly ver didnt save much money it was still a very expensive gun...
thank you for having the mrs. in there, most of us enthusiast are more like her (albeit she is still better then most of us) having her shoot allows more of a connection to what we mid range guys are like you're a freaking gun katta jedi!
Someone else commented that we would enjoy an opposite video of bargains that made you smile. I'm sure you've done this, but I don't recall having seen one. We Poors enjoy your content, too
I feel your pain in shelling out a big chunk of money only to have the product fall short of it's hyped up quality.... This is a great video with unbiased info. Well done !!!! Haha yeah 😆 🤣
Thanks. Useful info. It would be great if you would do these all the time, once a year or something. Suggestion: there are a lot of old all-metal Spanish pistols floating around. Maybe you could do a video comparing those: Star, Llama, Astra. I think a lot of people may get into guns with these because they're so cheap, and if you do a comparison that would be helpful to some people. Obviously it's not your exact specialty, but your input would be valuable. If that works out maybe you could do Eastern European cheapo pistols next. Thanks.
Great suggestion! The pre 90's Star's are amazing. When they went out of business and they started piecing them together.... thats what gave them a bad name. I have a BM (one of my more accurate pistols...I took out the mag safety), I used to have a Super B. Should never have sold it. Picked it up in the early 90's for about 125. Had a Llama 32 "mini 1911" that I loved. A good deal to sell it came and i did it....stupidly. it sucks to have been young then and not know the future. I rather miss the late 80s and 90's. So much to choose from.
Can't say enough how much I appreciate your channel. When I'm considering a gun, it's the first I look to see if you have a video and your opinion holds weight in my brain to sway a decision. Foreshadowing: I have a Taurus PT1911. 🤣 It's the first 1911 I bought because of RUclips reviews, which you've mentioned can be skewed, and *then the price (the wife had ok'd a higher budget). Honestly, I only saw your review afterwards and I was like, ok fair because of all the factors you mentioned about quality control and so forth. I'm not advocating anyone throw a quarter and see what lands on the purchase of this gun. You also didn't quantify what you meant by accuracy. I guess I wound up at the lucky end of the spectrum as my PT1911, aside from feeding issues as a result of the magazines which resolved by swapping for Wilson Combat, and adjustments to the extractor which I also plan to relace with a Wilson Combat, this is one of the most smooth running and accurate guns I own. That's alongside an H&K USP Expert. I woudn't bet my life on it or reach for it first in a home invasion, but I have warm feeling towards it. I keep it more lubed than the other firearms I own and it does well, you can tell a difference in the smoothness of the action. Again, I'm not advising anyone take a hit or miss chance on a $500 investment, but I was surprised to hear it as an honorable mention on the worst list. 😂
Got both the Ls And CT. Already knew the issue before watching the vid. They are now my range guns and hoping to break the trigger so i could have the reason to get the apex.
Lol!! My regular 509's trigger is the worst/heaviest trigger I’ve ever handled. The flat Apex trigger saved it, but it was the biggest pain to install with that infamous pin you have to beat out.
As austrian, who gets to shoot actual steyr AUG's during conscription, I can't confirm any of those problems you mentioned from MSAR with the original AUG. It's actually a very reliable, very precise gun and is lightweight compared to M4's. The only real downside is the mag release that's awkward to reach sometimes when you aim down sights while reloading. I've put a few hundrets of bullets through it during my time in Service and it was good and fun enough for me to buy it afterwards.
Same here. Never experienced any issues with the original AUG, with every barrel there is. Guess the MSAR is just another example of the "if you want something good, buy the original" category.
@@djl5634 True, but by the way it's balanced you barely notice the weight difference, if at all. And it's way more comfortable to hold compared to any AR-based rifle I've ever used.
What other guys have said. Nobody has ever (that I know) did not like the Steyr AUG except for the optic. The reason the clone made the list is that Kel-Tec could have done a better job at $600 but the jokers who put out the clone *had to know* they had a steaming turd. My guess is they ran out of money/went over budget and sent it to market 'as is' Bad move. People love the aility to change barrels on the fly and the 5.56 NATG gets the best velocity out of a 20" barrel which could be done easily and with a bullpup the overall length would be about the same as a standard 16". A 40-45 grain V-max projectile (handloaded especially) in a 20" barrel can get over 3,300 fps but outside of 35-50 yds the novely becomes a detriment.
The only gun on the list I'd even heard of was the CZ A01, and I wasn't surprised it was on the list because I just watched your review of that about 30 minutes ago. Yeah, if I spent that kind of coin on a piece of shit, I'd make a video about it, too. Well done! Your candor is truly refreshing.
My wife and I are old folks. We are fairly new to shooting (about 1 1/2 years). We bought two Staccatos, a C2 and a P. They each have a red dot mounted. We seem to switch off which one each of us shoot. We go to the range once a week and shoot about 100 rounds each. It is fun to watch the young guys watch my wife shoot and put her groups in a fist size pattern at 7 1/2 yards. Their eyes get big as saucers and they just smile. If you can, save up and buy a Staccato. You won't be sorry.
Kimber Solo, the gun that turned me off of Kimber as a brand. I thought I'd love it but when I shot it every time I fired I had to readjust my grip. Fine--not every gun fits every person's hand and it isn't the fault of the gun. I sold it to my father after shooting no more than 200 rounds. Over several years he fired maybe another 100 rounds and started having FTEs. He sent it in to Kimber and they said the gun showed evidence of peening, a problem Kimber knew the guns were having because their 2nd version addressed it. They told him it was unsafe to shoot and - because the warranty was only 1 year and the gun was about 3 years old at that point - that for $450 they would replace the slide and barrel. Kimber wouldn't stand behind a product that had fired no more than 300 rounds and expected my father to pay about as much as many of the pocket pistols cost to buy new.....to repair a gun that Kimber said was unsafe after 300 rounds. I get that companies sometimes make garbage guns but I don't understand deliberately choosing to screw customers when the company itself knows the guns in question are garbage. I had been looking at a K6 as my next purchase but after what happened with that Kimber Solo I'll never buy another one of their products again.
I’m a former infantrymen, I now work in a gun and pawn. I have had several friends and regular customers who had kimbers, and I’m yet to encounter a kimber that didn’t turn into a pumpkin after a few hundred rounds. They all ended up getting rid of them. To the point my boss puts them in the same category as hi points, as in we won’t buy them or take them in on pawn.
@@SDM121888 yessir I bought a micro 9 for my mom all it has is FTF, FTE, misfires the whole 9 yards. I was able to work out most of its issues with spring kits and fine tuning but still stumbles every other mag. The family now uses it as a gun to train for malfunctions but it’s sad you’d figure kimber would have better quality.
@@MichaelClaytonCo It is one thing to have a bad product and quite another to have bad service. I've had to send in Glocks, Sigs, Springfields....but they took care of the problem. Kimber? No.
As fascinated I was by the UMP-45 instead I built an AR-15 pistol in 45ACP. It's lovely tack-driver and cost half what that UMP clone cost. Stern Defense makes the components.
Good call. I used the ump45 and hated the super long length of pull and the heavy trigger. I couldn’t shoot prone very well as the magazine was too long also. The only thing I likes was the two shot burst. I miss the mp5 with its 9mm. That was a great shooter in select fire.
It’s strange watching you and your old lady. I say this because I’m a tall beard wearing Irish guy , my wife’s a short thick finger nail coloring gun loving best friend and we act exactly like you two do. Just in two different states. This list is uncanny as I’ve had similar experiences with those exact firearms. I’m a CZ nut but they don’t need a custom shop as all CZ’s are perfect by themselves. I personally will not buy any handgun over $1000 bucks. Never have. I’ve shot six thousand dollar rigs and outshot pros with those high end rigs and beatem with an $800 PSA/BCA budget frankenbuild. Money rarely makes the shooter. Had to remark because you two act like my wife and I do. That’s the real charm of these vids and getting the spouse that loves the same things as the husband is true gold. I feel you there.
Love all your gun reviews, very informative and unbiased. First gun I ever bought and still my FAVORITE the Canik TP9SFx based on one of your videos of the gun. I might just have to go buy the Walter now and compare the two. I know you mostly do pistols on this channel but just wanted to say your unbiased opinion on foreign firearms like the Canik has me looking at another Turkish firearm manufacturer Yildiz, they have a beautiful Sporting HPS 12 ga over/under for under $700. Thanks and Keep Up the Great Work
I had a MSAR loved it only down side was the availability of options to change function and form…. I got a AUG to replace it and have no hate for either Gun just wish we could have gotten the Australian Design here I would have went with that instead
I wanted to love my Guncrafter as well but I also lost a ton getting rid of it. There was nothing to like about it and the weight of the gun is enough to make the mag eject and it made me incredibly upset when the mag fell out every time I picked up my $3400 pistol.
Hello, I really enjoy your rewiews. Keep up the great work! Since you seemed to enjoy shooting the PDP I was wondering if you could do a rewiew in the Q4 steel frame. Here in Germany they are also offering an inox version which looks amazing. Obviously I'm more interested in the functionality especially how the triggers compare. Thank you in advance, Felix
Any reply to the statement from Guncrafter Industries? “I have recently been made aware of a scathing review on our X2 pistol by Chris Randall of Honest Outlaw (HO) Very seldom do I involve myself in forum debates but HO's review is completely erroneous and the statement that our X2 pistol is not worth the money and one of the worst 5 pistols he has tested demands a response from GI. Randall on how to (privately) contact the new owner of the reviewed pistol so we can polish out the magazine induced dents in the feed ramp and otherwise inspect the pistol for "damage" caused during the review. Sincerely, Alex Zimmermann - Pres. Guncrafter Industries.”
@@robertstrickland2121 I came here for this. If a similar 2011 style mag will destroy the gun, it damn well better be in the owners manual. Especially at that price point. Otherwise thank goodness for HO.
WOW. Im shocked at the MSAR review. I owned the 2nd gen myself. Used steel mags and never 1 issue. Factory mags used once bc they were new and despite the slow rate of mag swap, i loved it and everyone at range would come over. Polymer & aluminum dual guide rods love holding on to carbon discharge so, it was a must clean after range day and extra lube. Ran like a dream boat with all the weight in rear. I knew i could run around with longer w/o feeling weight up front. I believe you drew the absolute lemon bc im not that lucky. Wish id kept it.
I owned a msar, only takes msar mags, for many years. I must have gotten lucky cause I never had a malfunction that wasn’t due to ammo. The trigger could be better but it is a bullpup…
A company made a trigger pack that used AR15 trigger parts. I got one and it helped some but the pins kept walking out. Never fixed it, just put the original trigger pack back in and got used to it. I learned to shoot a Glock 17 (Gen2) with the New York trigger and shoot it very well. If you can shoot that Glock very accurately you can shoot anything.
@@LuvBorderCollies was it the ratworx trigger? Been trying to get one but seems to be discontinued. I guess I should of bought parts for it long ago. I just got used to shooting it too, I would run and gun and do a lot of CQB drills that we used to do when I was in the Army. It was a huge learning experience training with a new platform, but I finally got proficient with it. Training is everything…

@Bob McCaskill how does that apply to his comment?
@Bob McCaskill what's that got to do with the price of tea? Everyone talks up their favorite guns, even if they're trash. You definitely get more from a "this is a waste" type video than the typical hype vids.
good luck with that.

Thats why im gonna have my mosin be my main hunting gun...
Well....he was Carlos Hathcock. That makes a huge difference. Us mere mortals must compensate somehow. I get your point though.
Paint the sights ( just a dot of fluorescent paint with a toothpick )
Change the recoil spring.
I love my aug more and more everyday, threw a thermal on it, now it's all around my fav go to rifle. 2 Moa accuracy is plenty for what it does.
I'm glad your story has a happy ending!
Didn't care for the bren and was really disappointed with the AUG. So both are gone. Good for you if you are happy.
@Jake Gore . whats wrong with bren 2?
Was your Bren a 7.62 x 39? They did have a lot of problems with that and issued a recall. I believe it was send it in to be repaired or they old buy it back. Not 100% sure. I have one of the later model Brens in 223 and love it but I steered way clear of the 7.62 one
I get what you're saying about the FN and the trigger hype. A few years back I got reeled into the Sphinx SDP hype. The absolute worst DA trigger I've ever felt. SA was okay but the DA was like pulling my dog into his vets office.
Lol great analogy
It's unfortunate the gun was so bad, but at least you got an awesome metaphor out of it- "the trigger was like pulling my dog into the vet's office". 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The B&T USW version of it isn't any better either.

Ok but there are better options
50k miles in 11 years? You must only drive that car from the garage to the mailbox and back
You put rounds through that pistol but haven’t driven anywhere really

Anyone else just watching this just to make sure none of your guns are on the list
I didn't like the curve at the back of the grip. Never really felt lock in my hand even after 1 year of trying to get used to it.

Same here, never had any issues and still have it.

I have the ACP .223 and I love the thing. Action is so so smooth. With a name like Grasshopper Mouse it’s got to be excellent.
My ghm 45 fucks
in switzerland, the ghm9 is actually cheaper than a scorpion and you would be a retard to buy the later. especially in my position, as i live just 1h in the car away from the manufacturing plant of the ghm9
same goes for apc9 vs mpx. with all the problems i heared about with imported mpx's you would be stupid to buy one over the apc9 which is not only cheaper than the mpx, there is allso a CHF 800 (about 800 USD?) red dot included in the price of the apc9.
I paid $1400 for a Springfield M1A Socom 16. Not worth the money, I don't know if it is so much of a lemon that it deserves to make the list but a $1400 AR platform would have been a much smarter buy on my part. I still like it, but if I had the money over again to do it different, I would.
I really wanted to love my M1A but the more I shot it the less I liked it.
The FN FAL IS THE BEST RIFLE 😎👌
I think its more of a collectors gun at this point. It's a good gun but there's so many better ones
a lot of people buy an M1A because they expect it to shoot like a National Match Loaded version, only to discovery that bone stock M14s are not remotely match accurate. Just like a govt model 1911, they can be made to shoot lights out but it’s a real to-do.
That's a perfect analogy.
This is why I love buying budget guns ,more often than not, they're a gem and worth every penny!
I feel like there is a sweetspot in the middle. Not too expensive, and not too cheap, but is worth more than what you pay for.
I'm a fairly new gun owner and I've been watching your videos for the last year. I don't know why I have never subscribed until now. Great stuff.
Saw the AUG in the thumbnail and was about to throw virtual hands. But if we're talking about the MSAR...yeah that's fair.

This was on Guncrafter's Facebook page:
I have recently been made aware of a scathing review on our X2 pistol by Chris Randall of Honest Outlaw (HO)
Very seldom do I involve myself in forum debates but HO's review is completely erroneous and the statement that our X2 pistol is not worth the money and one of the worst 5 pistols he has tested demands a response from GI.
Randall on how to (privately) contact the new owner of the reviewed pistol so we can polish out the magazine induced dents in the feed ramp and otherwise inspect the pistol for "damage" caused during

AUG mags are better than STANAG mags.

@@zombieslayer7759 and when it comes down to it, people who say all this buy the same glock from another manufacturer. Walther, s&w, sig all just made browning action, striker fire, polymer framed glockish things that besides no parts interchangeability is 99% a glock.

My A01-LD functions perfectly but then my pistol is still in break in IMO. Maybe its I just know how to hold my tongue in the correct position for it to function? I'm all for small American gun companies creating works of art and driving good old fashioned American business, as CZ Custom is doing, but I frankly cannot justify spending two times the price of a top-of-the-line production CZ for a totally custom, built from the ground up, CNC-machined handgun that functions _exactly_ the same (or, as in the case of the video, worse than) an equally beautiful - but, not CNC-machined from a block - CZ Shadow 2 or Tactical Sports. There's just no way I'd be willing to spend that much money for so little gain.
Thanks for doing these videos brother. You're saving us a lot of money and frustration. Appreciate it.
CZ's make me smile. I don't have this particular one but the ones I do have are awesome
I have a CC 75 SP01 and it's my all time favorite pistol.
yes indeed. Gonna get the p-01 soon as well
I owned a regular CZ75, it was my first gun. Accurate, easy to maintain and super reliable with any kind of ammo, only thing I ever had done to it was a mild trigger job. i have been allowed to use an AUG a few times, a friends father and uncle have licences to have full auto arms due to their line of work, so i have gotten to fire a few guns most people havent..also some that are just weird or rare... vss, svu, real ones, turned out they traded some guns with a former russian military officer years ago, it was fun times back in the day...
the aug... in some ways it was fun... the swappable barrel setup was interesting, we didnt fire it as much a splanned when the optic failed(shit inside broke lose..) and.. well we had other guns we wanted to fire more.. (he was not happy, that optic was brand new, and expensive as hell...)
and the zip22 should be on the list of "worst 'guns' ever made"... they really are that bad... every person i know whos had one, had it as a 'meme gun' and nothing more... i managed 5 rounds before it jammed on the best try..yes it really is, that bad.. LOL.. jamms like hell..
the worst gun i personally had the displeasure of firing was an amazingly expensive semi-auto hunting rifle... everybody spent the day trying to figure out why it felt so bad to use... bad balance, bad recoil alignment, among other things..also..it wasnt as reliable as guns a fraction of the price using the same ammo... real head scratcher... i mean sure the stock was hard wood... but the poly ver didnt save much money it was still a very expensive gun...

Thanks.
YES.... great idea! I have a STAR Super B. Would really like to see a review. I probably paid too much for it.
I VOTE Yes
Not just the Spanish or Eastern Euro guns, but maybe just older guns that are better than most people think.
Got a Star BM for $200 and I love it. All steel construction is a little heavy but with current ammo prices I can always use it as a hammer.
Would’ve been a great suggestion in 2019. However most of these guns have almost doubled in price in most places
Watching "Mrs. Outlaw" shoot and I am impressed. She has gotten miles better in the last few years. You need to sign her up for competition soon.
Right now, someone at FN is having conniptions about the things said about that trigger. I even feel bad.

It’s true though
M4 7.2 pounds is lighter than steyr aug 7.7 pounds

Good call. I used the ump45 and hated the super long length of pull and the heavy trigger. I couldn’t shoot prone very well as the magazine was too long also. The only thing I likes was the two shot burst.

Any reply to the statement from Guncrafter Industries?
“I have recently been made aware of a scathing review on our X2 pistol by Chris Randall of Honest Outlaw (HO)
Very seldom do I involve myself in forum debates but HO's review is completely erroneous and the statement that our X2 pistol is not worth the money and one of the worst 5 pistols he has tested demands a response from GI.
Randall on how to (privately) contact the new owner of the reviewed pistol so we can polish out the magazine induced dents in the feed ramp and otherwise inspect the pistol for "damage" caused during the review.
Sincerely,
Alex Zimmermann - Pres. Guncrafter Industries.”
ouch.
If it's a custom pistol it's obviously not customizable enough to support extended mags, that's why it's shit 😂
Was this in the owners manual? When you are paying for a top shelf gun, you should get top shelf documentation with it.
@@robertstrickland2121 I came here for this. If a similar 2011 style mag will destroy the gun, it damn well better be in the owners manual. Especially at that price point. Otherwise thank goodness for HO.
