I’m 53 years old. Floaters have ruined my life for the past 20 plus years. I the past 5 years it has been so bad that I avoid reading, computer work , driving and simply spending time outside. Half of the time I see 20/20 but the other half of the time is 20/40 when a cluster of floaters crosses my vision. I had RK and cataract surgery in both eyes and a shunt in the right eye. I still take glaucoma drops in the left eye. Just had a floater only vitrectomy in the left eye 6 weeks ago. After that the pressure was out of control for 2 weeks. I had to take diamox and had my cornea tapped twice. Now the pressure is normal but my astigmatism changed probably due to taping the cornea. Just whent to see my optometrist and she was able to get me to see 20/20 - 2. But I noticed the vision was distorted a bit. Not sure why. Waiting to get my new lens. But I can already drive a lot easier. Floaters in my right eye are still bothersome but I’m hoping that my brain can eventually adapt. If the distorted vision in my left eye clears up, I would consider getting the right eye done in the future.
For those of us that have floaters due to myopia at a "young" age, YAG doesn't work. I've had the YAG surgery and it didn't get rid of my problem floaters due to floaters being close to the retina. It actually made my floaters worse. Also, the 20/20 vision is only accurate when my eyes aren't moving. Not out in the real world when your eyes are constantly in motion, like while driving, or working, or reading anything. My floaters blur out words and small details as well as making it harder for my eyes to focus on anything more than 10 feet away. Half the time I miss spots on my white car while trying to wash it outside. Floaters have changed everything about me. I can't tell you the last time I was genuinely happy about anything... It's a disease of the eyes and mind with zero relief 24/7 365.
Thank you for this comment -- I was saying similar things out loud to myself as I was watching this. I/we DON'T have 20/20 vision as far as floaters are concerned. @@turbo-yn7le You're welcome. People need to know EXACTLY what we are dealing with. Not what the eye doctors tell you when you are going in for an eye exam. Our eyes might look good to them, but to us, it's hell. There's no sugar coating that.

I am 63 years old and I have had opaque floaters since my early 30s off and on again mainly off until I got the covid jab. I have developed eye flashes and increase in floater since my covid vaccine. I see basically 20/20 but not well, like you say. I have poor night-vision halos, starbursts within the eye or looking at an object. I would do almost anything to have my vision back as it is taking away my enjoyment in life
Yes I agree with taking on that level of risk because my quality of life is so much impacted I'm 51 and have pvd in both eyes, I am struggling to do my job and not sure how much longer I can last, I can no longer run because I get dizzy from the floater motion, I cannot climb, drive, photography gone , cannot watch a film etc and get headaches caused by the sheer eye strain everyday. Then there is the mental aspects I'm getting depressed because of this I don't think eye doctors realise the sheer impact , that is my experience in the UK.
I totally understand. I believe that is the experience of most in the US as well. Are there any retina specialists performing the procedures I mentioned in your area?

In a 9 year meta study ( it wasn't even up to date - 2019) the patient satisfaction rate for vitrectomy was 96%. Things take time but the progress made with vitrectomy for floaters has been staggering to say the least.
8:43 I can see why that study came out with the conclusions that it did; I can empathize with why patients feel that way. The worst thing is the smug dismissiveness of many doctors to this disease (yes, I said "disease"). It's been nearly a decade, personally, that I've been with floaters; I am still getting "used" to them.
I have massive floaters. It started in the right now and now its all over in the left eye as well. I am really looking forward to some medical research to come up as a solution to this growing problem
Great information, thank you! I'd love for you to make videos on nearsightedness returning after Lasik and eye-specific vitamins such as Areds 2 and Ocuvite.
This is great information - I just had laser surgery for retinal tear and my floaters are out of control. The doctor doesn't seem too concerned but my vision is extremely effected and its annoying as hell. Yes I have 2020 vision buy my vision is a mess. Help!
Honestly I cannot believe that nowadays there is not any chance of having a real treatment for eye floaters. A chemical substance injected in the eye that could dissolve, safe laser or ultrasound methods, etc I repeat I cannot understand how a simple thing as floaters are can be today unresolved.
Did drinking lot of water can decrease Flotus? Because when i drink 5-6 L water i notice that flotus decrease .....when i didn't drink water 1-2 L i notice lots of flotus
If I squint my eyes and look at a source of light I can see layers and layers of floaters, they are just everywhere inside my eyes, I'd give 10 years of my life in order to get rid of this nightmare. I have floaters for almost 20 years.
If eye floaters will be treated like a pandemic, for sure we will have a cure within months. The government will be able to find a way to remove this eye problem.
I have a floater in my right eye i woke up one day and i saw it... I see it when I look at a bright sky or white/light walls. Sometimes I see it sometimes I don't. But most of the its there. Beleieving for a miracle that GOD can and has already removed this floater in Jesus' name... by faith...praying
Thank you for this. I understand the decrease in quality of life because of multiple floaters. Please do more videos like this when you hear of new treatment for floaters. Thank you for caring about this subject. 🥰
I hate my day to day life with floaters I have many in both eyes some like Vaseline so it makes things blurry so I can’t read or watch tv very well 😡😦thank you for saying they are horrible xx
Yes, Vaseline is the perfect analogy! I have a big one of that sort in my left eye. When it sweeps across an object that I‘m looking at, it can even deform the shape of it while moving across. It’s all very annoying, but I would never risk going completely blind from an operation.
Thank you for this video . My own view as someone who has recently suffered a PVD and now left with large floaters is that Optometrists and eye doctors need to view floaters in the same way as any sort of damage to the eye. It affects vision so why would they think it could be ignored. 20/20 visiion means nothing to those with multiple floaters.
Does stress improve the eye floaters? Soo I had Anxiety disorder for 3 years. But last month I got a bad news from my neighbor about his eyes tumour. And I was shocked, scared and my anxiety came back. At that night my eyes feeling so voltage and 2 days after that I saw my floaters developed 😭😭 and my eye nerves are visible 😭😭
When you have a surgical vitrectomy and the surgeon removes the vitreous gel from the center of the eye, do you inject a replacement to keep the eye from collapsing onto itself or does the body produce its own to replace what was removed? I just developed some floaters last week and they are annoying! I constantly feel like I have a lash stuck under a contact lens because that is what I see even though it doesn’t hurt that much. They do also make reading difficult because often as I focus the floater will block the word on the page or screen. Small type and music charts are particularly bothersome. I have committed to giving it some time to see if I can deal with them but I am guessing that at some point I would like to see if YAG laser will address the problem and save me from retiring before I would like to.
I hope we will get some kind of transparent glasses which helps to see floaters very less , I also hope with latest medical treatments coming up in this 21 century will help in getting rid of this floaters .this floaters ruining my life.😞
I have floaters since 18. After 10 years my left eye Is pretty full of floaters. Last year i've developed a floater on my right eye that stays in the center of my vision. We're not far off lower risk treatments (femtosec) and an even safer vitrectomy method. I wonder if this lady realises though when she has to ' find them ' that people have them to the point they start wearing sunglasses in-doors? I think that's one of the reason most floater sufferers feel let down by opticians and opthalmologists.

I’m 57 years of age. I only started having floaters around 4-5 years ago. And with time they have become more noticeable. And I have a few more than just 3. Like most people a white background or blue sky makes them noticeable but also with me a grey sky and a lightish grey background makes them noticeable as well. I’d love to read but sometimes the floaters just turn me off the idea. It’s black print on a white background. And it’s bad enough with Blepharitis sometimes but with the added floaters it just drives me crazy. The floaters don’t blur the letters or anything like that but they just drive me to distraction sometimes that’s all. Just wish I didn’t have the little buggers . But would I rather go blind ? I’m struggling with a distorted view through a slimy haze the last two months. I had two separate laser surgeries for a Weiss ring in 2018 in the right eye and 18 ms later the left eye. The first time, my very black Weiss was broken up into smaller black things but I was left with a slimy moving haze. I was told it should sink out of my vision and over a few months it did somewhat but now it has returned. I don’t know if there are any options to clear the slime effect. I feel like I’ve cried tons or haven’t slept ALL the time. I Feel like I am looking through a fish bowl of moving dirty water.

I cured my floaters 100 percentage using following way in 4 months --- Most important - 3 big slices of pineapple 2times a day for 2 month then 1 slice for 1 time to avoid any side effects of pineapple overeating -- 1. Drink lots of water 2. Drink 1 glass of water before sleep & in between sleep if you awake drink water 3. Sleep for 9+ hours 1/2 + hour afternoon & sleep without pillow 4. Keep eyes always hydrated (not dry) use water to wash eye (6/7 times a day) to hydrate 5. Fasting (no food) one day per week.. fruit+water allowed 6. Don't squeeze or use fingers or any eye related exercise.. just keep natural eye movement. Should not give any stress on eye.. also don't cough to avoid eye pressure 7. Avoid tv/mobile/laptop as much possible 8. Add fruit in dailt - I eat 5 fruit everyday 9. Run for 15 minutes everyday 10. Take 1 spoon of ghee everyday
Damn those steps is asking me to change my lifestyle to a very healthy one. Lol. So you did all that? How were your floater experience like and how long did it take to get rid of them.
I had a blunt force injury on my eye. I immediately felt extreme pain and saw whiteness for about 7 seconds and had strep threat. I don't really have starbursts exactly. I do have some halos at night and my vision is definitely just a touch worse at night. My floaters haven't changed at all, which is a miracle with how many times my child has inadvertently poked me in the eye! I have a couple in each eye, I actually did a drawing of them at the end of this video!
I've got vitreous detachment which happened quite quickly with both eyes within weeks of each other, luckily no retinal tears, but it was unbelievable annoying more so as the floaters stay in my eye line of vision But having had it for many weeks now I understand its not wise to do surgery, I'm just hoping it gets easier as even when reading I get a burry vision when the floaters stop right in my vision line
I had about 25 YAG treatments in both of my eyes my floaters improved just a little bit, the only cure for floaters is surgery. The best way is to have a 27g surgery with combined cataract surgery and remove all anterior and posterior vitreous. just doing a core vitrectomy risks retinal detachment later or floater reoccurrance
I have been complaining about floaters for years. However, I have to be honest and point out that the results of the survey you referenced almost certainly has more to do with the fact that average people are tremendously and famously terrible at interpreting statistical risks. When an average results in something as ghastly as people being willing to accept an 11% risk of death for what is not a life-saving surgery, that is a red flag that overconfidence bias dominates the results.
I have gone past floaters to short periods of blurred vision, I have 20 20 vision I have had floaters since I was 12. I would only risk my vision if I was beyond the point of functioning. Of I lost my ability to drive or read or both, I would then start to seriously consider risking my vision.
I have bad floaters and I'm only 42. I also have really terrible eyesight. If I am not wearing my glasses i can't see even 1 foot in front of me. Plus, I got my first pair of progressive lenses 2 years ago and now they need to be stronger. Getting older, good times haha
I think that study is kinda light. you should see the hundreds of people in my Facebook floater group that are in total sadness and some can't even take it. I even seen some that are ready to die.
Visual acuity measured by the Snellen chart is misleading while checking the eyes of one with major floaters. People with large opacities -floaters/Weiss rings have lost a lot of the ability to see in a low contrast environment. As long as the world is in color then the high contrast test will not be a sufficient measurement. In my opinion!

I am 63 years old and I have had opaque floaters since my early 30s off and on again mainly off until I got the covid jab. I have developed eye flashes and increase in floater since my covid vaccine. Of all advance medical technology and medicine , sad to say that we cannot get rid of floaters
I agree, medical advancement happens really slow on eyes and appears like we are still living in medieval times.

In a 9 year meta study ( it wasn't even up to date - 2019) the patient satisfaction rate for vitrectomy was 96%. Things take time but the progress made with vitrectomy for floaters has been staggering to say the least.
59% de las vitrectomias salen con peores resultados que las moscas

I personally think that stress and anxiety make floaters worse but I don’t believe that has been proven in any peer reviewed study as of yet

But would I rather go blind ? do you have only 1 floater on each eye or may be these are only large floater and others are less noticeable ?? and
also you have starburst or not??
I don't really have starbursts exactly. I do have some halos at night and my vision is definitely just a touch worse at night. My floaters haven't changed at all, which is a miracle with how many times my child has inadvertently poked me in the eye! I have a couple in each eye, I actually did a drawing of them at the end of this video!
I've got vitreous detachment which happened quite quickly with both eyes within weeks of each other, luckily no retinal tears, but it was unbelievable annoying more so as the floaters stay in my eye line of vision
But having had it for many weeks now I understand its not wise to do surgery, I'm just hoping it gets easier as even when reading I get a burry vision when the floaters stop right in my vision line
Same here how are you doing?
@@malena7362 Im still learning to ignore them but they still are annoying
@@summerxxxx 😔
@@summerxxxx is it still in your line of vision?
Same here. Has it going on three months now. Hard to put ony eye makeup. I pray it doesn't happen in other eye. Have been feeling depressed over it.
Can we use contact lense if we hv floaters n thinning retina?
I had about 25 YAG treatments in both of my eyes my floaters improved just a little bit, the only cure for floaters is surgery. The best way is to have a 27g surgery with combined cataract surgery and remove all anterior and posterior vitreous. just doing a core vitrectomy risks retinal detachment later or floater reoccurrance
Did you end up having the surgery?
how in hell can u have 25 yag treatments how do u justify even a second treatment if the first one didn't make improvements?
I have been complaining about floaters for years. However, I have to be honest and point out that the results of the survey you referenced almost certainly has more to do with the fact that average people are tremendously and famously terrible at interpreting statistical risks. When an average results in something as ghastly as people being willing to accept an 11% risk of death for what is not a life-saving surgery, that is a red flag that overconfidence bias dominates the results.
i see Too many Floaters when i open my eye slightly
is it normal?
i can also focus on looking them
I have gone past floaters to short periods of blurred vision, I have 20 20 vision I have had floaters since I was 12.
I am 72 years but I was born with floaters.
I think that study is kinda light. you should see the hundreds of people in my Facebook floater group that are in total sadness and some can't even take it. I even seen some that are ready to die.
It's a serious problem. I truly didn't know the impact until I started making these videos and hearing from those who are suffering.
@@EyeSchoolwithDrD i have them and the only thing i wamt is suicide. Why are people against suicide. Death is BETTER THAN FLOATERS
I have itchy floaters plz suggest me something 😕
I am also having floaters they are so bad and i am just 18 got them 6 month ago😭
Hey doc, just want some insight of what you think about my floaters,
So I have had them for 1 year now but when they started it was 3 longish strands on each eye but now a year ahead they have grown an stretched out it seems like but it feels like week by week my floaters get worse also my glasses prescription seems to get worse month by month also it’s a little noticeable now :/
Hi..how is your eyes now?? Are you filipino??
guys how to deal with floaters when they are impacting your day to day life i'm just 24 and having 5 floaters in both eyes .... plz reply guyzz as it is effecting my mental health as well
Im also 25 and recently developed lots of floaters. However I have noticed the less attention I give the floaters the less I notice them. As soon as I focus on them they are a nuisance. I know how annoying they can be but once you stop paying a lot of attention to them they are just there. Also drinking lots of water helps them aswell and having a lot of expose to sun. These are things I personally noticed
