Thanks very much I had used a recovery program to recover lost photos, but there was not enough space on my mac which resulted in me not being able to view the photos and remove them this technique allowed me to remove the stubborn photos and finally remove the folder. I will subscribe to your channel.

Can you please help? I make documentaries with Final Cut pro and have huge amounts of video clips. Im not very techy. I just discovered that Im totally out of room on my 3 month old iMac! Im unable to delete, or move any files. When I try to delete the files, it says, “Disk out of space”. HELP, What do I do? Please! Thank u!

You may be able to delete files you don't need via the command line. I think it will bypass the Disk out of space error. Check out this video that explains it:
      ruclips.net/video/jKFb_kWvEq4/видео.html
Once you have some space available, you should be able to copy some files over to a USB external drive to free up more space. Afterwards, you will probably want to set up Final Cut Pro so that it uses an external USB drive as it's working disk where the files are stored, so your internal drive doesn't get filled up. That's what I do for editing the videos for this channel.
      Good luck!

Can you please help with the above?

Maybe this could do the trick:
Open the Terminal application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder while started up from the internal drive, and enter the following:
      cd /Volumes/volumename/
      (remember to use your volumename)
      mv .Trashes/501/ .Trashes/extratrash/
Log out and log back in; the Trash should now be empty. The folder did not appear when you started from the external drive because the .Trashes folder is only consulted on a disk which doesn't contain your account's home folder.

Thanks but I can’t get this to work, I’ve got a few directories that are empty but it still states that they are not empty and ‘sudo rm -rf’ doesn’t work.

    • @GemsbokAppleTipsandTricks

You could try setting up the root user on your Mac. I've got an old video in my list that shows you how to do that. Then, you can co in the command line and type "login root" then it will prompt for your root password. Then you can try "rm -rf" without the "sudo".
Sometimes I have to do that for very stubborn files or folders.

I can’t delete because I am not the administrator of the file. It is locked I cannot unlock it. I tried to sudo unlock the file and sudo delete it and when I enter my password it says illegal or cannot be completed. Someone has hacked into my computer and created coded files that I cannot unlock or delete. My computer is not working because of these files
