A cracker of a vid guys , the stories were fascinating but wow the architecture you found was awesome particularly the church door with it`s many arches, a wonderful out of the way spot with so much character,,,,Brian&Jane
I stumbled on your video by chance this afternoon. My father was acting Vicar of St Germans for a few years when M&F retired there and there was no incumbent. Father sadly died and Mother stayed on in a cottage called 'Ty-Winch' next to the Alms Houses which was included in your video (Ty-Winch means 'house on the corner' in Cornish, a name my Father gave it. By chance I was there last week as we were on holiday in Cornwall (@Tintagel) and had the opportunity to meet the current owner and see inside.
I really enjoyed watching that! Great facts about the church. That door was amazing, all original stone around it. My husband laughed when he hear about the selling of that blokes wife for a £1! We will be in Cornwall soon, Port Isaac (I;m hoping of course that we will take a little walk to see Doc Martins; house!)
That was one impressive church door for sure and all original. And the stained glass windows were gorgeous. Wonderful. Love your videos with the history and the humour and always your lovely dogs coming along with you. Cheeky...selling you for a pound Sarah! Ha!! (and wanting change too😄!) x J x
What a beautiful quaint village, and the ‘Cathedral of Cornwall’ with its stunning stained glass windows was amazing, the fascinating stories of myths & legends and selling of wives for a £1. was very intriguing, you are a brilliant story teller Sarah thank you 🙏 for another remarkable find 🤗
What an amazing video with more of your brilliant story tellingSarah. Your video’s never fail to amaze me with the use of your super collection of books from years gone bye, Ioved the ‘Cathedral’, it is vast with those amazing windows and a wealth of history. “Now come on Andrew - sellingSarah for £1 ha ha!! I am sure that she is worth more than that!!”
What an amazing church, and what a long and illustrious history! Having watched 'Time Team' on tv a few years back I remember that those expensive to hew stone sarcophagi were usually reserved for high-ranking clerics, and I'm guessing it would have been one of St German's bishops. But I wonder which one and what happened to him? (I like a mystery!). I can't get there myself but wishing everyone attending the CWT meet & greet tour at Lanhydrock an absolutely wonderful & relaxing day!
We visited St Albans cathedral this week and they have several stone coffins, again all without the details of who was buried in them. Sorry you can’t make it. Sarah :)
Hi Sarah and Andrew. I really loved your walk around At Germans today. I enjoyed the church/cathedral. and hearing about the history of the village made so fascinating.
Your videos are always a multiple joy - I use them as a Podcast just hearing, then watching them and afterwards always having a look to a card "to follow" you and at least to write down some ideas for future visits. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I enjoyed this walk very much 😊 These old buildings are very beautiful and there are so many great stories. I am actually fascinated by the fact that you had churches as early as in 500 AD. Here in savage Norway Christianity wasn't formally introduced until 1024. And during the next 150-200 years there were built about 1500 churches. We still have some from that time. Thank you for the lovely tour 🥰
Oooo! Maybe! We also found a wife sellling story in Camelford, near Boscastle where Hardy stayed. Makes you wonder if wife selling was not uncommon! Sarah :)
Hi Sarah and Andrew, I hope you did not get to wet🌧 where did all that rain come from so fast. If you could go back in time, One pound would buy a whole lot more, I think it's bad trying to sell Sarah, Andrew 🤣🤣
At least you stayed dry this time! If I were declared mock mayor I would decree that everyone has to watch at least one of your videos every day, just as a reminder as to how diverse Cornwall is.
The Mock Mayor and the may fair still goes on (after a short interlude…We think it might have stopped in the 1950s) The nut tree is now represented by a symbolic tree that’s moved around through the fair. Its briefly placed on the correct spot, but thats now a road so the procession moves on down to the pub. Can still get a bit raucous!
from a few years back, procession is now a lot shorter and starts from the rec field, where there’s tug of war etc: ruclips.net/video/ReD4Pf2bTWo/видео.html
Brilliant video. Is the cathedral still a cathedral or was it ‘downgraded’? It’s very beautiful; even if you’re not a Christian you can’t fail to be moved by such a place. PS: I loved your last video showing the amazing church garden at St Just-in-Roseland; what a find!
Our cathedral is now in Truro. It was build by the Victorian’s and it surrounds and absorbs the parish church of St Mary’s. It’s quite fascinating! Sarah :)
Beautiful church building
Great video. I should say another great video. The church was gorgeous. Thanks. 😊
That's a great story and good fun day you had, well done you two. Cheers Bob
Glad you enjoyed it, Sarah:)

Beautiful colours! So unusual! Sarah :)

I’ve never considered that! It is great to learn about other countries’ history! Sarah :)
Great video u2. I wonder if Thomas Hardy got the wife selling idea from St Germans.... when he wrote The Mayor of Casterbridge?
Oooo! Maybe! We also found a wife sellling story in Camelford, near Boscastle where Hardy stayed. Makes you wonder if wife selling was not uncommon! Sarah :)
Oh that's interesting Sarah 🙂🙂

Excellent.
Was that the train you missed at the end? 🤣

@@CornishWalkingTrails 🤣
Well, at least that answered Andrews question, (can we make it to the station in 16 minutes? ....err NO!!
Lovely video. A pound! I would have accepted 50p! 😂

Diversity is not strength it is downfall....worked well for the Roman's didn't it
That would definitely help our channel! Sarah :)
