- In our video we explore one of Cornwall's executions for murder.
In a quiet village, off the tourist track, a murder was committed and a suspect arrested, convicted and hanged for this crime. The unusual fact about this case is that the murderer was a woman. With so few women convicted of murder, the crime attracted attention. We visit the church where the victim was buried and look for his grave. We uncover the ripples within the community of the event and how the village church was almost ruined by the scandal.
Our walk starts in Tremenheere Sculpture Garden, where we enjoy a cup of coffee before we begin following in the footsteps of a ladykiller.

We are Sarah and Andrew and we film around Cornwall and publish videos on RUclips, usually weekly. Sarah collects sea glass to add to paintings of local scenes which are sold on Etsy. The channel is a hobby that we fit around family and normal day jobs.

Do we have meet ups?
We are limited for time because we fit the channel around our family and jobs. We meet up with people who are Patrons and RUclips members, both on group walks and one-to-one. If you join, you will be notified.
Unfortunately we do not have scope for further meet ups but if you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!

Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book title. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dogs, perhaps you can make up your own name for them.

You might want to check the burial records for Crowlas and Gulval on the off chance that Henry was buried in either of those two places!

This was a great story. Thank you for digging into the history. I believe very many people have been victims of injustice and got put in jail or executed without being guilty. That said - she might very well be guilty of this murder. But I definitely doubt the tales about the devil 😃 Great to see Tremenheere Sculpture Garden and Ludgvan church again. I have visited both. Thank you so much for returning to your old format! We much prefer hearing your wonderfully researched stories from your collection of old books, compared to hearing about places that we loved when we lived in Cornwall falling out of favour. This was a really interesting story too! If memory serves, I think cholera victims would have been buried in the churchyard. If you visit the church in Luxulyan, many of the people died I the same year. They had a cholera epidemic caused by bad water in the Wells. They had record floods which washed manure tainted water into the Wells.
Sadly, the problem with this format is that it doesn’t attract the views, and we will be lead by the audience to make videos that get watched. This format requires a ton of work, which we, ultimately do not have the time to commit every week, especially if it doesn’t attract as many views!

That was so interesting Sarah and Andrew, it had me hooked for al sorts of Reasons and at the end I
my mind was jumping. Coincidence: you started the video at Tremenheere Sculpture Garden,and finish
at Ludgevan church with a view of the Rectory accross the road. That is significant as the Cannon Boscowan
of Lugvan Rectory had a Garden of Exotic Plants which was his passion, he remains a strong influence on
the exotic plant lovers of West Cornwall (and beyond), the connection with Tremenheere? Dr Neil Armstrong,
the founder of the Sculpture Garden shares that influence of Cannon Boscowan, in the early days Neil and
a few others myself included used to meet in a pub, and would talk about Ludgevan Rectory, Eagles Nest etc.
Which all led to the formation of the West Cornwall Garden Club and then Tremenheere. So your video seemed to
have a hidden Tangent, Alpha & Omega unknown to you. We also just outside the door on the terrace where I write this
is a willow leaved Podocarp tree (Podocarpus salignus) which is a cutting taken from the huge one in Gulval Churchyard,

Great video as always. A really fascinating story and is one they present on the new Bodmin Jail experience (which I highly recommend). They present there that she did infact murder her husband but he was a violent and abusive man. Love these sorts of story's and videos, Thank you for making them :)
I guess the truth ultimately died with the characters in this story, which makes me reluctant to say one way or another! Contemporary accounts, although embellished, may be more reliable than conclusions drawn today - who knows?!? Fascinating! Sarah :)

Curious as to why you kept using a photograph of a man each time you mentioned the murdered farmer.... photography hadn't been invented at the time of his demise..... so who is the photograph of then?..... is it a photograph possibly of the only recorded occurrence of someone from Redruth actually working?...... yes, I'm from Camborne ha ha.

Fascinating story, and love the cross-referencing with your antiquarian collection of books on old Cornwall histories, legends & walks, and how it relates to the areas you explore (real detective work!). The church, churchyard and surrounding lanes definitely have an uncanny oppressive 'atmosphere' to them, as if there was a great sadness & loss...maybe a miscarriage of justice that has left a mysterious void. I wonder if she really did the deed, or whether she was the victim of rumour & spite...a little like the 'witch' hunts two centuries before.
I echo your thoughts, and my doubts probably lies with the investigative skills at the time! A lot of it seems to be hearsay, and based on a popularity contest! Sarah :)

Could arsenic have been introduced after the body was exhumed and prior to testing by someone.
Hi ya, that story of the lady who poisoned her husband and was hung is part of the Bodmin Jail attraction now, we recognised it as soon as you started to describe it.

Yes! Not a quick one to explain! Lots of pressure from RUclips, telling us no one was clicking on the video and it was on its knees, basically dying. You get about 6 hours from time of release before RUclips assign your video to the RUclips bin!
RUclips is hard! VERY hard. You have to be mentally strong and reactive to avoid becoming another failed channel!

Well … there’s certainly no shortage of Arsenic in Cornwall !!
Would think your best chance of digging out the truth would be to seek access to the church records … often not scanned or available via internet sites. This should include records of the original marriage, which should then give you a maiden name for Sarah … and so potentially lead to her place of birth and establish her background to some degree.
Equally, these same church records should also reflect the initial death/interment of the victim … since any final resting place could be anywhere following the investigation and trial.
This, of course, all assumes you can definitely identify the parish where the couple actually attended church … which, unlike today, it is almost certain they would have been regular attendees.
Nonetheless … a truly ripping yarn 😮 complete with haunted churchyard 😮😮

Hi Sarah and Andrew. The start of Sarah was really fascinating and interesting. As to whether she killed her husband or not is a mystery but if he had been ill doctors did back then prescribed some medication which contained arsnic or some took it for relaxation purposes. Although it is more than likely she brought it for the rats people back ten was not so careful about health and safety as they are today.
