- Keep in mind ya'll that this would be the necessary equipment ideally for an at-home office. Others will tell you that you can walk around with a laptop and a cellphone and work as an independent freight dispatcher, but that is only partially true. You want to make sure you're comfortable, and prepared so that you can perform at your highest capability!

LLC tax is $800 per year in California. I think I'm just going to operate as a sole proprietor without an LLC while I get started.

How much dispatch equipment do I need if I drive my own box truck and self dispatch.
I'm thinking a laptop, a phone, legal pads, maybe a portable printer.

Yes, I would suggest so.
Should I purchase LLC before starting business or when business starts picking up I will be purchasing your course soon
Honestly, I would say yes, and only because some states take long to send you your Articles of Organization which is what you’ll need to open a business bank account, and that is essential. Some states give you an option to expedite it, but I’d rather be safe and get it.

You absolutely can, and I speak about that in another video, but let me give you an example where a scanner/fax will be useful. Sometimes certain brokers require a scanned copy of a BOL vs a photo. In that circumstance the driver would take the BOL, and scan it to you themselves (unless of course they live relatively close to you then they can bring it to you physically). This is just one example. You don’t necessarily need it but as you grow, your use of it will become more necessary.

Usually an independent freight dispatcher charges the carrier a percentage (per truck gross), or a flat rate fee (weekly) for their services.

Absolutely, you just have to structure your business in way to handle dispatch operations directly

Yes when you got your LLC they should have emailed you your “Articles of Organization”
You can get an EIN from irs.gov for free never pay for that.

Yes, I would just create a DBA for your business and add the word dispatch, dispatching, etc.
I am an owner operator as well and would like to keep the same corp as the dispatch business.

This is honestly subjective. I personally prefer MAC, but whatever is more user friendly for you. Just pick one that has a good memory, and a high speed processor.

@@ASHLYNNANDJULLIAN DAT does occasionally have postings in Hawaii, but I don't believe it would be enough for you to make a consistent revenue, I'd try having your father just hire you as an employee and try to establish a dedicated lanes in Hawaii with shippers.
