Ok, let me try this again since it appears my earlier comment was deleted. Just so I'm understanding this correctly, you're using brokers to book these loads for owner-ops, correct? Don't brokers take about 15% off the top? You being the dispatcher are taking 5%-8% of the load gross. For simple math that's 20% of the load rate. So the owner-operator gets 80% of that load rate, does all the work getting a load from point A to point B, all the costs & expenses come out of that 80% gross, and they're good with that? I find that hard to believe with what the costs are to operate a big rig today with fuel, insurance, trk payments, tolls, + + +. Please enlighten me. What am I misunderstanding?

I'm watching in 2024 and wanted to say Thank You for the good information and straightforward video! I am a company driver and looking to start my own trucking company one day! I am doing my research / homework right now trying to figure out what is involved and if I can make a living doing it!

Just so I understand, you being the freight dispatcher for your owner-op and you're surfing the broker load boards to book a load for your driver. The broker is selling you the load and taking his 15% or whatever commission and your taking your 5%+ from that load for your driver. So in essence, after you and the broker take your combined 20% +/- cut the trucker is actually getting 80% of that freight rate then and is really doing all the work & all the expenses getting the load from point A to point B? Does that sound about right, or am I missing anything? Owner ops are ok with that set up? I'm not sure I would be if I was an owner-operator knowing that and I was eating all the ridiculous costs of running that rig.

You don't need that amount up front if you have decent credit you can put $15,000 down on a truck. You don't have to put that much down for insurance if you're going to lease on to a company also you don't have to get a trailer You can go power only. so really you're not looking no more about $26,000 out the gate.

As this video is a couple of years old, do you think the 7% average dispatcher charge is still accurate? Also, you mention invoicing the carriers/drivers. Do they usually pay right away, once the load is delivered, or do you have to chase them for the payment?

I recently started researching independent dispatching, I’ve got almost 7 years of experience working for trucking company’s and what not, but it seems like A lot of the videos are a couple of years old. This video is one of the most recent ones I’ve seen is this industry now over saturated in your opinion?
