Every sense I keep it in the garage with motion sensor that txts me, 2 different locks for the back and front wheels, shock alarm, GPS tracker, and bike cover. I have to unlock/deactivate 2 different key fobs before I can sit or it goes mad. $400 of security is still cheaper than some fenders replaced.

Insurance didn't even pay for a vehicle rental while the bike was being repaired. Amazing. When I got rear-ended (in the US) my car was out of use for 2 months before the parts could be sourced and the repairs completed (there was a parts shortage in the US at the time because of Covid). In the meantime I had a rental car and insurance paid for 100% of it. My rental was a much newer, much nicer, and more expensive car too lol

I worked 8 years as a car mechanic in Germany, we have one of the strictest regulations in the world regarding roadworthiness... This VIV check sounds like total corruption.

    • @JayMaverick

No argument that this was total bs, but VIV is different from MOT/TÜV. They make their money by shafting the insurance companies to make vehicles "repaired for roadworthiness", that's why it's so insanely expensive, and that's why the insurance company wanted to shaft Benny Surge's gf.

when i was 15, i worked part time to save up money to build a sick bmx bike that was around 1200$usd. a month after i got it together, a group of kids stole it out of the garage and covered the security cameras.
about 6 months later i see it for sale on facebook and schedule a little meet with them to 'buy' it back. i called up my biggest friend to come over and on the way out my old man could smell there was trouble brewing and pressed me to figure out what was about to go down and eventually he made me call the police to go with.
we all get there with the cops and check it over, and sure enough its my bike. i had every part written down with the vin and everything matched.
the cops told me theres nothing they could do because i didnt register my bicycle with the police and report it as stolen so i had to give my bike back to the very person who stole it from me in the first place.

@@nisseost1 Yes, the thief should pay, but that is the insurance company's problem not the owners. That is why the owner has insurance. The offer should have been either fair market value of similar replacement and you don't get the bike or fair market value of a similar replacement minus the parts value of the bike and you get to keep the bike.
I can't speak from other countries, but in the US negotiating that value is something most people have to do. The insurance company makes an offer, you look at bluebook value and adverts for similar vehicles, show those to the insurance company... You negotiate and if you can't come to a resolution then you might need to escalate. I have friends who have gone through that. I myself have only gone through it once and there was no need to negotiate. The insurance company gave me an offer that I thought was fair.

I went through a similar thing.
Bought an XR6 Turbo at 18.
Mong crashed into it. Car was essentially brand new. 62,000k’s on it, still had that new car smell, and not a scratch on it.
    Car was $22,000.
Front bumper got cracked, headlight needed replacing, needed a new grill and a bonnet (could’ve got away with paint).
Insurance made me take it to a specific repair shop, nobody else, for this review mind you.
Total quote including, paint for $2,000 in parts? $24,000.
A body shop, quoted $24,000 to replace pretty much a headlight and a front bumper.
Obviously my car was written off, but here’s the kicker!
I was given back $18,000 of that $24,000 because I’d opted to pay my insurance monthly. ($3,600 a year) at the time, and being 18 years old after spending 22k on a car, I didn’t have that laying around.
So, it was taken out of the insurance return, as was the $1,200 excess.
Funnily enough, within a week, my car was listed for sale at Pickles Auctions, Snapped up for a lovely sum of $7,500, and repaired for $2,800 by the new owner.
    Insurance is a scam.

As we're driving one of the days we were there. We discussed and parked 3 blocks up the road and decided to take the subway instead. When we got back we were walking and passed the car not knowing. When we get to the airbnb we thought the car was stolen. The cops blamed us when they got there and said that we were going to go to jail for lying and trying to clam insurance. Anyway long story short after them going 2 blocks up and 2 blocks back and not finding it. Enterprise got the GPS location. It was 1 more block up. Boy did we all feel stupid. But it proved most cops don't wanna try or care. They literally said it's a right off for Enterprise so we're not going to try when they first got there.

The person at the insurance company screwed up with a.m. and p.m. on the claim so it looked like I put the claim in before the crash happened and it got red flagged. The second that happened I had to jump through hoops and was treated like a criminal, and they sent an ex detective down to investigate the case as they didn’t believe my claim . Even after they were explained the situation it didn’t matter they had to do a full investigation. I had to provide proof of where I was why and how I crashed , phone proof of when I rang for help, had to provide hospital documents and proof I went there because of the crash etc etc they also had to do character reference through my work to see if I was a dodgy prick and make sure I had time off work, and that was the reason !! what an absolute joke. I was always told by friends who rode bikes that the best defense against motorbike theft was a bike cover + good insurance. However, finding "good" insurance is either difficult or too expensive for most folks.
At the end of the day, a loss is a loss. Insurance will do whatever they can to pay the least amount possible. But sometimes it's best to walk away with a small loss, a lesson, and try again with those experiences.

The best defence against motorbike theft is to keep it locked in a garaged when not in use. That's basically it.
No bike is safe if it's parked outdoors. They are just too easy to steal. There's a reason why some underwriters just straight up refuse to even offer anything above third party coverage for non-garaged bikes.
Also it's a good idea to NOT leave your bike unattended in a random location overnight. That helps quite a bit too.
Insurers understandably do not cover thefts that occur in situations like this (where the bike owner brought unnecessary additional risk to themselves via a stupid decision).
As much as insurers are an easy target to attack I genuinely don't think they are to blame here. Insurance doesn't exist to facilitate poor decision making or lack of care for your own property.

Cost an absolute arm and a leg and the guy was completely useless. Luckily he didn't fail the bike for any of the repairs, but he wanted the frame measured by somebody else as he couldn't do it. I got my bike mechanic to do it and gave the inspector the measurements and he didn't like that the form the mechanic gave me wasn't the same as his measurement form. He didn't have a blank copy of this form to give me so he told me to go home and look it up online. I couldn't find it and started to think it was a form he had made because it looked really unofficial. I called him a few times to ask about it but he started just hanging up on me. I ended up making a replica of the form in MS Word based on a photo of another customers filled out form and fabricated some of the measurements that were missing. Took it back to the inspector and he glanced at it, then just handed me the repair certificate. The people who do these jobs seem to be corrupt or just don't care.

That VIV check is a FU*KIN RACKET!
In the UK, we have a similar test called an MOT test, and it mainly covers aspects like Emissions, Brakes, Tyres, Lights, and Structural Integrity, to make sure the vehicle is safe and roadworthy. You would not fail a test for scratches to paintwork, or rips in seats etc, unless it compromises vehicle safety.
You are legally obligated to have this test done after the vehicle reaches Three years old, and every year thereafter. The test itself costs around £50, not sure what that is in AUD$. But if any defects are found, you are given I think, 14 days to repair them, with serviceable parts, (they don't have to be brand new) and no receipts are required. Then once repairs are done, the Re-Test is free, if you Re-test within the 14 day time frame, otherwise, its another £50. As long as the Vehicle is deemed safe and riadworthy, you are good to go, even if cosmetically, it looks like a wreck.

With a sales receipt and title from the seller (he mailed it to me) I was able to register and insure my car and get plates for it. There are no inspections in the state where I live. I flew to New York, took a train, and drove home. However, I was only 20 minutes into my trip when a New York cop pulled me over for "looking suspicious". He tried to write me up for an expired emissions sticker, but I pointed out my car isn't registered in New York, and isn't required to have one. He then claimed my registration was fraudulent, as no state would register it without an inspection. I sat for about 30 minutes with him trying to find something to ticket me with.

MOT is the same as an RWC.. VIV is a different beasts.. It's if you have to get a vehicle that was taken out of the pool of registered vehicles as a registered write off and put it back in... MOT is just a Road Worthiness Check... I don't know what the English equivalent would be.. But if you import a salvage bike and fix it up, you'd have to jump through those hoops too before you can get it on the road again... It won't just be an MOT at that point... It's MOT + type registration + registration licence + some more stuff. Also the checks will be way more rigorous than is the case with an MOT... The rebuild has to be as good as a new import...
MOT is APK in the Netherlands, TüV in Germany, RWC in Australia... But that's just an annual checkup (starting 3 years after it was registered as a new car/bike)... Entering a salvage vehicle back in the pool of registered vehicles is a lot more difficult and a lot more hoops to jump through...
It would be the same as getting a car that was a total write off back in registration... Just MOT is not going to do that.

    • @hermanmunster3358
      @hermanmunster3358 2 месяца назад +3

@@jazzdirt Ah ok, it wasn't fully explained in the video.
In the UK, if you want to recommission a crash damaged vehicle, there are certain criteria that also need to be met, as well as the MOT.
Crash damaged vehicles are categorised depending on the severity of the damage, from registered as a TOTAL write off, which must be scrapped.
Then REPAIRABLE write off, and then three other categories I think, designated by a letter, such as 'Cat N' depending on again, the severity of the damage sustained. And this categorisation stays with the vehicle for the rest of its life.
Of course, there are some vehicles that are not reported to the insurers after a crash, by unscrupulous owners, who will seek to repair the vehicle at a back street garage, then sell it on as undamaged. I think this is rare, thankfully. But you should always be on you guard when buying a used car. And if it is economically viable, have it inspected by expert technicians prior to purchase. Otherwise, you could lose the vehicle, AND your money, if it comes to light that the vehicle is illegally registered at a later stage.
So the onus is on the buyer to make sure the vehicle is legit, especially if it is a private sale or 'Sold As Seen'
But buying RETAIL, from a dealership, DOES give you certain consumer rights.
You can reject the vehicle for a FULL refund, for any reason, within the first 14 days.
If any faults are discovered thereafter, up until the first 30 days, they must be repaired by the dealership, or if it deemed to be uneconomic to repair, then the dealer must offer a swap for an equivalent vehicle of the same value, or a refund.
And after that, the normal terms of any warranty given with the vehicle applies.
Normally, dealer warranties are anything from 3 months to 1 year, depending on the dealership and/or the vehicle.

    • @stuartlaird7341
      @stuartlaird7341 2 месяца назад +1

The VIV is designed to prevent people putting written off vehicles back on the road, it is not like a RWC or MOT. The big problem is that insurance premiums are so high and repair costs are so high that any vehicle more then 5 years old typically becomes a write off if there is more then 2 panels of damage to it.
In this case, the parts and labor would have been far more than the value of the bike so write off, that is just a financial write off, not an actual engineering one. A financial write should not require a VIV, just a RWC.

I'm from the uk and know about the m.o.t. I now live in new Zealand and the test here is exactly the same. Except it's called a w.o.f. warrant of fitness. You get 30 days for a re-check instead of 14. And are still allowed to drive the car on the road. But only to pick up parts to fix it or to take it to a mechanic.
It's a load of shite. I drove mine around for a year with a failed w.o.f. heaps of people do it there because we don't have ANPR. and if you do get picked up by the police it's only a 100$ (£30 odd) compliance fine!

When mine got stolen from a carpark here in Auckland, I was told by the cops who had the CCTV footage that 4 guys jumped out of a van, lifted my bike up and chucked it in the back and drove off. It's not until 3+ years later they're doing a drug bust they found my bike behind a shed, rear tyres blown, engine worn out, fairing stickers taken off and they turn one of the digit off the plate form a 6 to an 8 with black electrical tape. I proceed to ride it for a bit more after I got it back, and then it conked out since the motor was knackered from the abuse the thieves did when they had it.

VIV checks for motorbikes specifically are known for being the most pain in the arse pain in the arse fullstop. they require you to get the bike to 100% factory new condition with brand new OEM parts, which for older bikes is nearly impossible, and onto of that there's about 2 qualified VIV mechanics in the state, so there's no getting someone to do a loose one for you, and there's always a massive wait. my dad bought a repairable write off honda CBR1100XX blackbird about a decade ago and had to go thru the process. he wrote an article about the whole process for bikesales, incase anyone's interested in reading more about it.

I bought a brand new Bianchi bicycle for about $800. I went into a pharmacy to get my meds refilled, 10 minutes later, the bike was gone. There was a guy and a cop talking about my bike. The cop radioed it in since it just happened. After waiting around 15 minutes and no news from other squad cars, he had me fill out a police report and as I was walking away he shouted 'get in the car!'. That was my first and only in the back of a cop car (little known fact, those seats are plastic and super uncomfortable). We pulled up to the gas station where another squad car noticed my bike that fit the description. The cop that was with me had me stand behind a pillar as to not have any retaliation against me. He asked me to prove that the bike was mine. I pulled out my phone where I wrote down my vin. I got my bike back and when the cop asked if i wanted to press charges I said yes (it probably didn't do anything since there's a law in California where theft of property valued below $950 is considered a misdemeanor). 6 months later, that bike was stolen in front of my bedroom window on my porch. I keep my new bicycle inside now and bought a titanium rod theft device for it. And there's a happy ending to this story. I had renter's insurance and they paid for the bike in full since I had the receipts! Lessons learned: 1 get renter's insurance 2. Get one above $950 if you're already buying new 3. Keep the bike inside 4. Write down vin number and photos on your phone and save it in the cloud. 5. Pay the cops upfront $500 to find your bike. Jk about no. 5.

Three cases of comprehensive insurance ride.
    1. I got hit by a car while parked in a car park, driver drove off but I got his plates - insurance wouldn’t cover it because it happened on ‘private property’ - safeways at the time
    2. I got hit by a drunk driver doing over 100 in a 60 zone, his car was wrecked and leaking on the front end - left the scene with fake id, but had car rego, insurance didn’t help because I didn’t have his full details, need to talk to cops, but cops would not provide details. Had to fix my car at my own expense.
    3. I was riding my motorbike around 45ks on hawthorn Rd, Burwood east, car came out of a side road without looking, I swerved and hit the brakes, high sided myself and avoided hitting the driver, she took off without stopping, insurance said it was my fault because I lost control, if I had hit her, I would had been covered, but she came right out in front of me and I did my best to avoid the situation, I didn’t get to finish Uni because of it and was totally out of pocket and a $6k write off (ZZR-250) 1 year old at the time.

"but cops would not provide details" I got in 2 accidents in the US in the last few years (neither my fault but i was blamed for the first one because of a bad cop who took the word of the person who hit me) and in both cases I was supplied with a paper that included the officers information and all the personal information of the person who hit me- name, address, car make/model/year/VIN, everything. This was provided to me on the spot. The cop literally printed it out on a waterproof piece of paper (which is great cuz it was raining in the 2nd accident) from a printer in his cruiser. I'm amazed you can't get that info from the police in Australia.

I asked the cop who it was, he said he could not tell me.
For some reason he left the file open on his desk and said he had to do something and left the room.
A few months later he came to seem me and asked if I knew anything about this guy getting the shit kicked out of him.
