Its super comforting to know that I'm not the only one who is going through this stuff, you literally described exactly what i've gone through numerous times with the heart palpitations/being hyper aware of your heart beat etc (I often catch myself checking my pulse, I feel like a crazy person) I didn't even realize you call it Health Anxiety but this is exactly what I have, nice to put a name to it I suppose. I was on anti-anxiety meds for about a year but it makes you so lazy and numb so now I'm trying to deal with my anxiety naturally. I really want to move to Scotland on a working holiday, I love it there, and I'm extremely unfulfilled by my job etc. but I'm scared about having anxiety/a panic attack and being alone with no family or friends there for support, I don't want to let it stop me though, the last bit of your video was really motivational!

Ali AngiLopes I too feel comforted knowing that others have the same is me. Not that I wish it on anyone, but because it makes me feel normal and also that I’m not going to die. So you’re certainly not along. Great to hear of your ambitions to move - I’ve don’t it several times despite anxiety and I found that because I was so occupied with new adventures in a new country my anxiety disappeared. Best thing to do during an attack, is to talk to someone who either experiences it. Or talk to someone or loved one that knows how to change the subject rather then talk about your attack. Like take your mind off it. Trust me you’re not alone. Try CBD it helps a little. :)

@@slowjamcdub Sorry I'm only seeing this now! since my last post I haven't had a full blown attack (the ones that last upwards of 30 minutes) but I do often get skipped beats or shorter instances of palpitations, lately I've been getting a lot of flutters, I've just been trying not to panic when it happens, I feel helpless in the situation because I've been to the doctor so many times about this, I've worn a heart monitor on numerous occasions and they just keep telling me that I have a normal, healthy heart and that there's nothing to be done, so what can you do???

@@alicialopes7104 Ali I know I'm late to the party but I deal with crippling - and I mean crippling - anxiety and panic attacks. I've noticed how it's gotten significantly worse these past few months, and I've tied it down to a few things - daily exercise of any sort, getting fresh air or sun daily, nutrition, and human connection. Phone calls or in person talking is preferable. It's just been difficult for me because we're in the middle of a pandemic in the winter, and that's made all of the above challenging. But if you can get those things done, you should be feeling much, much better. I truly wish you the best, and we can beat this anxiety!

Shaun, anxiety, depression, insomnia are byproducts of my underactive thyroid. I have had Hashimoto's and Celiac for decades.
When I was at university, I had to take a speech class. Anxiety was a major issue for me. Hard to believe it now as I can speak in front of groups.
It is so scary, though. As you said, you cannot always control anxiety. Unfortunately, I am a bit of a control freak.

Har I had to take a few public speaking courses in college for my BFA Communications degree, and wow, I sucked at that shit. I gave some talk on
meeting the wacked out author Whitley Strieber who believed he was abducted by UFOs, etc., and my class ridiculed me for not thinking my thesis on the talk
was any good, or interesting. I was not pleased since I'd spent a good while working on it, and the story was true, I did meet Whitley a few times, and heard him
speak at conventions etc. My thesis was that Whitley was delusional/schizo and/or out to make a fast buck. I never liked public speaking anyway. I'm a goddamned pro. published writer and essayist, and it doesn't matter, some people are just not good or equipped to/at public speaking, which, in itself, can cause anxiety, panic, etc. I think though, the only way to deal with that fear or anxiety is to keep doing it! Keep doing public speaking and then you will eventually not be nervous about it any longer. But, it's also not for everyone.

Hi from New Zealand 🇳🇿. Good on you for sharing to that. I myself over a year ago left my job of 15 years as the stress of it caused me to develop anxiety/depression. It is a hard road, and people telling you to go and get counselling , or just get on with it, or that it’s not real, or what an excuse not to work.....well I hope they never have to feel the feelings that come from this. I get heart palpatations that sometimes are like my heart is gunna burst from my chest and it sounds like a train in my ears. This year of being at home and going at my own pace has started to help. He went to a general practitioner and told them about it. They listened to his heart but thought he sounded fine. They recommended a cardiologist to give him peace of mind. He went to the cardiologist and he diagnosed my husband with hypertrophic cardiomyeopathy...basically an enlargement of the heart on the left side...which can lead to cardiac arrest in some people..now my husband who has never had anxiety or panic in his life is a complete mess...and his heart palpitations keep happening each day throughout the whole day~ I try to comfort him as I know very much what anxiety feels like but as long as the palpitations go on it's a reminder to him of his appointment and the news he got :/ Glad yours were nothing serious!

Thank you so much for this video. The video and the comments made me feel so much better. I was sitting on the ambulance near the hospital to deliver a specimen. On the way to the hospital i was thinking stuff but it wasnt as severe as it will get soon. As i stop and park to get out the car and hospital, crazy thought ran through my mind that i was going to die. Thoughts like i should tell everyone that i’m going to die soon and that i should kinda hug everyone. It was extremely weird. My chest was feeling severely tight, i was sweating, and my heart was beating fast! WATCHING this videos makes me feel so much better that i am not the only one going through stuff like this. I kinda lost interest in things that I previously enjoyed but I trust theres better days and that i will get on my happy levels again. Everyone going through it, no matter what you experience, don’t worry because everything will be better, no matter how extreme you think your panic attack is. This video helped wayy more than you know ❤️

Shaun, do you know what triggers your anxiety/panic attacks? Being able to know the triggers is the first step to recovery. Are you able to figure out things that will bring you back to the now...moment and what things like a comfort smell, something soft...like a blanket, your dogs, cat, deep breathing. What is going on just before they hit? Once you can name it and call them out they no longer have power. Thoughts play a huge role in anxiety/panic disorders. When have you had your heart checked last? I hate anxiety and it has destroyed many lives but today, we all who suffer say, We are healthy. We are whole. We are healed...head to toe. Repeat it till it consumes your entire being. Thanks so much Shaun for always being so real and honest. We love you! God bless. 💜 Oh yeah, try taking magnesium. It does help.

Thank u Shaun & I have SO been there, I also have health anxiety & it sucks! My heart pounds & skips beats & it's terrifying! It happens when I'm trying to fall asleep cuz I get night terrors which is diff from nightmares. I'm terrified I won't wake up! I've had my 💓 checked out n every way possible & it was discovered I have a 💓 murmur but it doesn't affect my health. I've had alot of therapy & can now get through my panic attacks without medication. My ESA dog Sam is my Valium now & my passion, he's amazing! He lays on my tummy & I consentrate on his eyes, he just seems to know I carry my anxiety n my stomach & that I need him to look at me! On a diff note, I know so many people n their 20's who r suddenly experiencing severe anxiety. My theory is that the whole world has been at their fingertips cuz of technology & now as adults they have no clue how to interact with the real world! I don't know how it is n Scotland but here n the US every child is given a trophy for sporting events, not just the winning team. Yes, I'm going somewhere with this. They've never felt rejection & r awarded things even if it's not deserved. Heaven forbid 1 child win a trophy & but not the rest! This happens n other areas of their lives as well. I believe they become feeling entitled, that everything should just b handed to them. They hit their 20's & try to find jobs & don't get what they want & it's like the world has slammed a door n their face! They don't know how to deal with REAL life! I'm not saying kids don't work hard & aren't deserving of praise, the world their growing up n is not of their making, we have created it. My sweet neice has gone thru this so alot of where I've gotten my theory is from her struggles. I'm actually grateful for my own anxiety issues cuz I'm the one she turned to for help. I so wish she didn't have anxiety, with all my 💓, but I don't think I've ever felt more useful as a person! Is that selfish? She also helps me as I c her overcome her struggles!

And nine times out of 10, they run 1000x fucking tests on you at the ER, and, they find NOTHING. Because usually it's from anxiety, or some diet cause, or nutritional.
or stress, or a few other things and not a hardcore physical ailment, as such. They used to years ago, talk about psychosomatic illnesses, and this could be that too,
but I believe these type of attacks and panic etc. are caused by a much more complex array of causes. But the point is, you can be totally 100 per cent tip top
physically, and still suffer from anxiety, panic, palps. etc. It CAN also be caused by caffeine, stimulants, and other dietary causes as well. It might be a good idea
as I did for other reasons few yrs ago, to go to a really good nutritionist and see if they can eliminate possible causes that way, and try to work on diet and
fitness and see if those make a big difference. Sometimes they do! I was working out and treadmilling for two years 3 days a week, dieting, etc.,
and fighting off some pre Diabetic effects, and I felt 1000x better for three years at least. Now I have slacked off and have to get back on that programme
because it also helped with panic and anxiety, and stamina. I recommend even just walking an hour or two every day. A sedentary lifestyle is never
a good profile for things like this, activity helps a lot.

Thank you for sharing something so personal. It helps others when we share and will bring anxiety out of the darkness. Anxiety is only one of many mental issues that need to be discussed instead of shamed. I do not think anxiety is a sign of weakness, I think it may have more to do with the internal battles of what is expected of you and what you feel chosen to do. I believe anxiety proves you think deeply and intelligently, with compassion and foresight. How many happy-go-lucky people do you know? Do you find them to be more on the shallow side, letting others decide the future? Life is hard work and denying your deep thoughts to conform to societal norms is not everyone's cup of tea. Keep up the good work!

I started having these panic attacks last December. My first one I thought I was about to have a heart attack out of nowhere. I was just sitting on my bed after eating pizza with my kids.
I’m 28 years old. I felt really dizzy suddenly and my heart started beating VERY fast. I called 9-11 (something I’ve never done). It was hard to breathe and I felt like I was going to pass out on top of the heart beating crazy. I told them “I think I’m having a heart attack”
While waiting for the ambulance, my heart felt like it started to slow some. However, by the time the ambulance arrived, my blood pressure was 179/87, so they brought me to the hospital.
I had the ekg and blood tests, all came back normal.
I have had these episodes around 5 times now, and have gone to the hospital just as many times. I was given medication for hbp but I think it’s made things worse?? I’ve had terrible palpitations that have increased the last two weeks. (Every 20 minutes I get the two BIG off beat heartbeats/palpitations) and get a racing heart with any exertion physically.
Lastnight I had the worse attack ever. The palpitations were coming in waves and not stopping, I felt like I was choking, and my hands began to go numb. All of a sudden, my hands went STIFF and painful, fingers stiff straight out.
My legs began to go numb and it crawled all the way up to my rib cage, feeling like my rib cage was being squeezed.
My dad called the ambulance, where I checked out fine. I went to the hospital anyways and requested a chest X-ray. Came back fine. Blood panel. Fine. Everything, fine!
Still having palpitations. I hate feeling so crazy. And I always am in a state of fear of it happening again. I literally feel like I’m dying when it happens. I’m terrified always now.
    I hate this.

For a couple of months i did all my body check ups (even a head MRI) to find what the problem is, but the results were pretty fine and neurologists talled me it's caused by stress and anxiety. Had never experienced smth like this before since 3 months after i got 31 yrs old. I've had this idea in my mind since then to create a website or an application only for people who have suffered anxitey disorders, panic attacks, people with mental disorders etc so we all can help each other in someway. You are dead on the money about anxiety! I started having panic attacks when I was 13......after I witnessed my Grandfathers death. I have been through everything you just described.(even the hospital scenario, mine was IDENTICAL)..The WORSE part for me is something called 'derealization' where things don't seem real. It's the part that makes you think you're going crazy or dying....> I learned breathing techniques, relaxation methods and triggers....and then I found gardening!....I was so passionate about it! .>>>This kept my panic attacks under control for over 23 yrs

this is a great message and thank you so much for sharing your story, and sounds like we have a lot in common. But it goes to show we can get beyond it. I'm so glad you found something in travel as I have and continue to make strides. Oh, and welcome back to Scotland any time :)

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 Год назад

I've had all that shit, never witnessed a death, but, I have also had stressful situations where I started to get some minor momentary derealization etc. It's very common,
as it happens. I've even had that without actual panic, or heart palps! On its own. I think it's also from PTSD and other things. Or often it is. But very stressful
situations (passings, violence, conflict, etc.) can and will bring these things on. Sometimes you can see it coming, sometimes not. I think sometimes doing
something enjoyable, travel, whatever it is, can actually stem off any such attacks, because, it's a positive activity, enjoyable, and it distracts your mind from the
dark negative shit, and you don't focus on it subconsciously or consciously while you're on the trip, or whatever, somehow. I usually felt amped when I would travel,
go to conventions, which I used to a lot more years ago, concerts, road trips, family events, even if I felt anxious, I wouldn't get panic or palps. Or hardly ever.
Only if I'm home and stressed, or worrying about stuff, being run down with daily bullshit, do I usually get this stuff. Plus I've had other unpleasant causes of
such stress which have led to them at times which I'd rather not go into. P.S. Spending time on real hobbies and interests is also a very good idea. In my case,
if not for music and my guitar playing, I would have gone loony a long time ago. I also am a major movie fanatic, and those help distract me enormously.

I am trying to get my body healthy with vitamins, supplements and electrolytes. I also lived many years not taking great care of myself and now that I’m 50 I know I have to try to reverse it. Thankfully tests show no heart damage. It’s so hard not to let it be on your mind every waking hour though. Too much downtime makes it so much worse.

I had them REALLY bad 21 yrs ago when my mom was in hospice. She was only 41 & had endured 2 yrs of fighting a malignant brain tumor. When she went to hospice, I was 23 & my babies were 4 & 2 1/2. I was driving every other day from Richmond Virginia to outside Washing DC (about 2 hrs total). I couldnt leave until 7 or 8 PM bc of traffic. 1 day I just had this feeling my babies would die & that I had to be home. I saw images of them being in a car accident or chasing a toy into road & being hit. It was absolutely awful to endure 1st time. No cell phones in 1997 so I couldnt check on them. I panicked. It was awful. My mom's amazing hospice nurse calmed me down. I went to MD next day & he said it was anxiety from sitting w a woman in a coma day after day & it would stop after her passing. I DID use meds to get thru those weeks. Sometimes you have to. It's the worst feeling in the world.

Thank you very much, Shaun , for sharing this very personal aspect of your life. I have also suffered anxiety attacks, and like you said, they are absolutely horrible. You feel like you are going to die at any moment. I have had palpitations as well, but not related to my anxiety. I am doing better now, but I still suffer panic attacks occasionally. Thank you so much for sharing your coping mechanisms and your personal experience. You are very brave man and thank you so much for this very helpful advice. I am so very happy that you have overcome your anxiety and are now living a life that you enjoy and doing something that you have a passion for. Your videos are inspiring and I look forward to your videos each time a new one comes out on your You Tube channel.

I have anxiety and heart palpitations as well. It started about 3 years ago. I had no idea what was wrong with me and took a couple trips to the e.r. it can be a very scary thing. I was fortunate enough to find a great therapist and went for 2 years for help. It has gotten better in the last year. Thanks for sharing your story. For those that dont have anxiety think it's just dramatics and can be controlled at all times, and for those of us that have it, hearing other people talk about their experiences can be helpful.

    Hi Shaun
I can definitely relate with the feeling of my heart racing with Anxiety and over thinking everything. It have just managed to overcome it having it really bad 8 years ago and last year by eating more healthier, returning back to the gym with my Mum where we can support each other to do our best and to challenge ourselves, alongside walking our dogs for some fresh air, and lastly returning back to work as a Personal Carer in an Aged Care Facility where I can give back help and support to the elderly in their daily lives which I find rewarding each day. I can't wait for a day when Mental Illness doesn't have a stigma attached to it for being a weak human being. Keep up the great vlogs. 😊

Thank you so much for this video! I don't know why, but knowing that others get what you feel at those times is comforting. I get similar symptoms, sometimes others, and they all feel terrible. I'm also better now, but I'm still learning to cope with it. Great to know you're doing fine! :) cheers from Argentina!

Hey Shaun! I absolutely love your attitude! Your videos are such a blessing. If you are looking for ideas may I suggest stories Scottish children are told or maybe the stories that are commonly known as campfire type stories.
I have had anxiety attacks in my life. It helps me to count 5 things I am seeing, 4 things I am smelling, 3 things I am touching, 2 things I can hear, and 1 thing I can taste. I mix up the senses but often leave taste for one. Hahaha Love to yah, sweetheart. (Sweetheart is something we southerners call people as a show of acceptance.)

Very true what you described Shaun, I've been through that terrible anxiety cycle too and have mostly managed to overcome it now but every now and then it comes on. It's always good to hear when you're not alone experiencing something like anxiety. I completely agree that it takes up so much energy in mind and body. I would add for me too what helped was a daily ritual of 4 things: reflexology, meditation, exercise and tea. I did that every day for a good year (and do still continue but not with the same intensity of must do daily) and it really drastically helped. I also went to my University's anxiety therapy and it really was good to get help. Hope some of these tips can help anyone else in need.

Have been having palpations for a full month now. I used to in the past . My doctor said its probably PVC, which is premature contraction and anxiety, yes can cause it. I am however, I guess going to go see a cardiologist. LOL my doctor couldn't hear it. But she said if there was something wrong with my heart she would have heard it. Sigh.I take Gabapentin and Klonopin. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Shaun, i love your vlogs. i have extreme anxiety and at times it consumes me. its grown over the years and also i have depression which i guess comes from the anxiety. listening to your story. i also am at a point of living a very unfullfilling life. work and home all of it. and i agree it takes all your energy. i am in that loop you where speaking about..when my kids where little i still had anxiety but my passion was my kids. i put all that stress and anxiety and all on the back burner and had raising my kids to distract me because i made ever minute about my kids and survive being a single parent.i had to do this or that for the kids. and now that they are grown and moving on. all i am faced with is all that, that i pushed back and i am so deep in it nothing inspires me and cannot find a passion. everything i once felt a passion and loved to do that is gone and that is scary. i dont know how to find that thing to drive me. but your vlog did give me alot to think about and to look at. i really appreciate you and how you reach out to your fans and touch us and share your life stories with us. it can make a difference in peoples lives.first time in a long time something spark in me and what you said touched me thank you Shaun

    - sorry to hear you're going through this... anxiety masks itself as other medical conditions. as long as you're not in pain (sharp) you can rule out Cardio issues.. others have wrote this.. but get your thyroid levels checked.. abnormal levels can cause these events.. best wishes for this to happen less and less- in the future. The Irish and Scottish have genetic disposition to some addiction issues.. I surmise that this "engine" could be a factor in stress/anxiety response.. only a theory.. All the standard rules apply- eat well, get sleep, tell your family and friends you love them.... cheers Shaun..

Kudos to you, Shaun, once again, for your honesty and vulnerability. I’ve been to the hospital 4 times with heart palpitations from anxiety attacks. I’ve had all the heart tests as well, and my heart is totally healthy. Three of those events were the result of the horrible antibiotic Levaquin. Please, friends, research the fluoroquinalone antibiotics, and don’t let your doctor prescribe them. The fourth time was a side effect of my grief at the death of my lover 2.5 years ago. One of the best things you can do for an anxiety/panic attack is to reach out and talk to people about it. Ylang Ylang essential oil just inhaled also steadies the heart rate and soothes fear. This is my personal experience and not a medical recommendation. Sorry for rambling on, but I hope this helps someone.

my doc says my pvc's (or ectopic beats or flutters like you describe) are caused from anxiety- BUT... I can be sitting doing some art or something- completely calm... and my heart will flutter around, skip beats, thud real hard- and THAT sends me into anxiety. Unless you have experienced and lived with palpitations/svt/flutters/pvc's/ectopic beats- u just don't get how awful they are. And docs can say "oh they are harmless. just remain calm. meditate." wtf ever... it's scary. It feels like ur ticker has lost it's sense of timing. ughhh. I'm 51 now and have had this stuff since I was a teenager. I know it's not life threatening- but I've had an anxiety disorder my entire adult life because of it. I'm now at a point where I am just accepting this and embracing it instead of trying so hard or wishing so hard that it'll go away. Sending love out to all who are in this heart flutter club lol.

Oh Winnie my heart goes out to you! I am so glad I came across your comment. I'm 29 and have been dealing with this for a year and a half now, they started out of nowhere and just stuck around. My personality changed completely and I feel like I'm going crazy, I stopped doing and enjoying things even dropped out of a college course I loved so much. I just miss the old carefree and active me. I am paralysed by the thought of my heart just suddenly giving out on me and I don't feel comfortable going around and doing things. I've become anxious and started having panic attacks which made everything worse. I mostly just stay home now because I am terrified of everything and I feel so ashamed for not being there for the people in my life anymore and becoming a nuisance. Your comment gave me some comfort that maybe I won't die from it, so sorry you've been dealing with it for so long. Sorry for my long rant. Sending peace and love to you 💖

One thing u might want to try that helps me so much is mega dosing magnesium. It helps the heart. I take magnesium citrate & magnesium taurate. On bad days I'll also drink "calm" which is powder magnesium. It helps stop the flutters. Lots of love!

I’ve had exactly the same thing happen to me, I had an anxiety/palpitations which went on for a few hours and I could not calm myself down where I usually could, ended up in A&E making me feel so tired and sick, I’m doing a bit better now also and trying to move on from it, eating better and trying to be in a happier place, it helps when you get a better sleep to because anxiety drains you daily so we need our sleep. I had the exact thing you are describing and it lasted a week. All the tests in the world could only point to anxiety. I literally felt like I was dying. I thought no one could possibly understand how I was feeling and every doctor in the world was wrong. It’s awful, but people like you who are talking about it are changing it. If I’d had RUclips when I was unwell with anxiety, I think it would have minimised before it got so far.
