    I’ve decided to think of my ectopic beats as my heart laughing, and reminding me to relax and find something amusing to contemplate. I believe that taking things too seriously can shorten your life. When I shift my perspective, my bp goes down, the extra irregular beats go away and I breathe easier.

      Dear Dr. York, I also have conversations with my ❤😍😜. Just a couple of months ago I fell for a handsome bunch of grapes and my Vagus Nerve went Bonkers. Within hours my old Ticker had a Sulphite tantrum and I said " STOP-IT" !! Oh wait.. I didn't mean that. L0L.
      I was sitting on tthe lowest shelf of a reduced section in a local store, I'm sure the Security Camera pegged me as a Shop-Lifter. I must have looked like a Snake Charmer at a Bazaar, arms dangling in a squat position, glassy eyed, I was trying to avoid the Local Ambulance Crew. Oh my, Doctor York, you are a Dream-boat.
      I highly respect your Wisdom, and your ability to Care and Share. ❤👍

      @@javiermarquez0173 - I had anxiety years ago and like the doctor said, skipping heartbeats, feeling fainted, tiredness, etc. were the cause of anxiety, fearing the unknown. Have your doctor check you out completely and if he/she says you're fine, then you're fine. Relax and stop listening to your body so much! I find that getting enough sleep and regular exercise help a lot, and if you train yourself enough, it will eventually go away. When our numbers are up, it's up regardless of what we do or how we try to avoid it. Good luck!

      @omarakamaax 3 года назад +13

      @@sovereignsoulutions6612 I used to be anxious about them so that triggered them more. Meaning I would some time wonder when they would show up and spend time anticipating them. That's when they happened. I then I changed my paradigm and started to follow this line which I read from a Warrior tenet/principle "A brave man dies once, a coward dies 1000 times". This means that the brave man will face his death once when it comes. The coward will spend his days thinking about death. I said to myself I'm a warrior, An Alpha male. I'm not a beta. So If I die I die. I don't care. I'm just going to live my life and not care about my heart. Plus also had the strong believe that I was in great health. This was further backed by medicals/blood tests. As I started to follow this philosophy the Ectopics disappeared. It's in your head unless they come with exercise then it's to do with your heart. Lastly, eat right/clean, stop bullshit like alcohol, processed foods and workout regularly and go for an early morning walk. Do mindful meditation, lower stress and try scented candles.

    This is one of the best videos I have watched in my life (and I have watched lots, lots). It is not only good in the medical way (which it is a lot to say, since nowadays doctors care more about making money than saving lives) but in the human way. It is so refreshing listening a doctor critizing diferent levels of our society like the pharmaceutical industry in such a polite manner. It is so sad that humanity became so greedy, to the point if it makes them rich they rather have sick populations than healthy and happy ones. We are making each other unhappy/unhealthy. I am so glad I had the oportunity to watch this video, no only for my physical but for my mental and emotional health. Thank you so much. This has giving me hope in humanity and in the medicine.

      I think FEAR is the #1 enemy; not the ectopics. Ectopics won't kill us; but our fear might. The day we internalize and accept ectopics while minimizing the associated fear; it will be less and less disconcerting and eventually, like Dr. Gupta said, shall vanish away. The anxiety provoked by EBs are far more alarming than EBs itself. It is because we as an anxious person are self-trained to scan our heart rate and rhythms. So any change to it shall automatically trigger the anxiety. There are people who are struggling and living a productive life despite being afflicted by sinister menaces like cancer, auto-immune diseases (Muscular dystrophies, ALS, Cystic Fibrosis and others with poor prognosis) also other chronic pains i.e. Migraine, trigeminal neuralgia etc- the list is as long as my arm.
      Let's serve selflessly if we can; and make ourself busy in something meaningful; deep within this shall relax and self soothe us and in turn; help us curb the anxiety associated with EBs.

    Bro just described me in the first 3 mins of the video. Edit, it's been exactly a day since I watched this video, and today I have had A LOT less ectopic beats. It's 100% true that the beats themselves don't feel that bad, just like a mild headache isn't that bad... it's the fear and not knowing if something more sinister might be happening to your body is what makes it so horrible. If I start worrying I have a brain tumour every time I feel a mild headache.. then I'm going to feel 10x worse just from worrying.. this is just what I need to hear and realize, thank you doc.

    This is really true. Once I conquered my fear of ectopics by weight lifting and cardio training, I stopped focusing on my heartbeat and therefore stopped experiencing the ectopics. If you're anxious, you become more self-aware and everything seems magnified. This is evident from a biological perspective because it improves your chances of survival. An extremely anxious mind, however, is so conscious of this process that depersonalisation takes place. You feel as if you're a third party observing what's happening to you. You become out of touch with yourself and irrational fear engulfs you. The only way to reverse this, in my opinion, is to exercise, because exercise normalizes these sensations again and makes you realize that nothing bad will happen. It not only makes you stronger, it makes you FEEL stronger. And confidence is key in conquering your fear

      I do the same and i never think about them until it just hits me. Its debilitating and feels worse if I continue to do weights, boxing and running. Im in my early 30s and rarely I am stressed, anxious and eat a balanced diet. I cleaned up my diet, kept a food dairy to see what possible triggers of my beats.. then i question myself why on earth are these happening now because in my 20s i never had these and partied like an animal and adventurous like a hobbit. Not sure if its age related but all my symptoms were all cleared after stress echo and holter study. Doctors say I have pvcs but benign. Heart structure is good. I tell him i have pvcs and skipped beats a minimum of 14 x per day. Worse when i eat pizza it or chocolate it doubles or triples. I wish was the others who dont or barely feel them. I feel them as if it hits me like a train and poof! temp rapid heart beat and back to normal and repeat. I just dont understand when doctors say its benign. It pisses me off and all i want to do is leave from that point and get a second opinion. They tell us to stay away from stimulants. I wonder if you do survey at your local starbucks of how many people have palpitations after drinking coffee.. i wonder how many would say "never"

There is a definitive undeniable link between anxiety and associated OCD in specific regard to GI issues and “allergy” manifestations. General immune compromise is also most often associated with anxiety as its primary etiology.

      @@YorkCardiologyI think what adds to the problem of feeling PVC’s or skipped or extra beats is if that has ever turned in Afib for a person. Afib is a terrible feeling. Like a car running with a couple spark plug wires off. Then the possibility of a blood clot or stroke on top of the terrible feeling and weakness from Afib makes these pvc’s cause much more anxiety which may very well bring on an episode of Afib. Any answers to that? Have taken 25 mg of Atenolol which I hate for 25 years but my system seems to”addicted” to the drug keeping my heart rate 70-80 instead of 90-100 without it.

    I'm 34. I've been training all my life. I have had ectopy all of my adult life. A holter exam I did revealed I could get over 6000 supraventricular beats/ day, mostly when I was resting. I did start medication to help manage arythmia, but the very notion of knowing vs not knowing the cause (fear and anxiety being a HUGE part of it) did drop that number. Great video, I suscribed to your channel because my cardiologist doesnt bother explaining all of this to me. Thank you

      @Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat First, go see a your Doctor. Second try finding the source of it: stress, alcohol, caffeine, etc. then reduce it. This channel helped me a lot understanding the problem because in my country, doctors are overwhelmed and dont bother taking time to explain. I got to change cardiologist because the first one didnt care much and only cared prescribing me pills which were making it worst (Betablockers etc). Try all natural solutions before pills. The thing is: unless you have an underlying medical condition, there is not much a doctor can do for ectopic beats. So eliminate the underlying condition. With the second cardiologist I saw we ran all test there are possible. In my case there is nothing alarming with my heart per his words. I dont need to take medication. Just that helped my case because I knew the heart was OK. For my case since I tend to havel low heartbeats while resting (low 40's/min) I am very susceptible to an ectopic beat in between. I lowered considerably my consumption of alchol and caffeine. When I have a crisis (that is several ectopic beats per minute for a prolonged period like an hour), I go take a jog or walk or I train. I found out that when my heartbeats are faster I dont have as much ectopic beats. It helps with the stress and removing the focus on it. The fear of having ectopic beats actually triggers them and it spirals down. At night while sleeping is when I have most of them. In my case after a 3 week vacation I took in 2019 (that was before COVID), my ectopic beats kind of reduced considerably. So really, it's a thing. Try getting your head elsewhere. I still have some but at much lower frequency. When I noticed my lifestyle was in control of them, it started to go better. It spiralled-up too. Now I can go for several month with almost no percetible ectopic beats. That is from someone who had 6000 to 8000 per day.

I then went the cardiologist route: blood tests for diabetes and cholesterol, EKG, wore a Holter monitor for a week, then a stress test and echocardiogram. All normal. He told me to calm down and go see a psych for my anxiety. I still am getting them sporadically and am sometimes afraid to even move as they might bring them on. I could not be more grateful for stumbling across this. I have suffered ectopic heartbeats for about 3 years now and they have constantly worried me. I have had a complete check up of my heart with a cardiologist here in Sydney, and quoting his words, I have a "beautiful heart". I mentioned my skipped heartbeats which happen consistently..mostly at night when I'm lying down..and he dismissed them as something not to worry about. Watching your video, I know realise they started when I had to move my mother with Dementia and my father into a nursing home. It was the most stressful time I have experienced in my life, and their well being has consumed me ever since. I'm sure it's this constant stress and the fear of them getting worse which has consumed me and caused my ectopics. Just listening to your video reassures me that I'm not going to drop dead, and I need to take care of myself and try and lift the cloud of fear that has followed me for the past couple of years. Thank you!

    I was born with a hole in my heart between the top two chambers and didn't know it till I was 40yrs old. That's when I started to have problems. I had open heart surgery to repair it. After that surgery I started to have panic all the time and still do. I felt so helpless knowing that things could be going on internally that are harmful to you yet you won't even know it. I have Afib now and doctors always have me wear heart monitors for a certain period of time and afterwards tell me there is nothing serious going on. The fear is really effecting the quality of my life and I thank you for this video. I don't think most doctors even think about fear as a factor.

I finally went to therapy and confronted the root of my anxiety -- the REAL cause of my fears... and it's now been five months since I had one. Once in a while I may feel a subtle ectopic beat when I'm super stressed or having an anxiety attack, but they're *so much* more controlled now. This is absolutely refreshing. I was considering on going to the hospital just now, I'm in my early 30's and after some research, apparently being dehydrated, having a bit of alcohol and caffeine all within 24 hours is a recipe to develop ectopic heart beats. Mine is an extra beat right now. The fear is legit, my uncle died in his sleep from a heart issue, so of course I'm freaking out all the time. This all makes so much sense! I'm focusing on hydration, no caffeine and no sugar to get my life back on track. I have to make better choices and this video was so incredibly helpful!

    • @trevorjameson3213
      @trevorjameson3213 2 года назад

      Alcohol is about the worst thing you can put in your body for ectopic beats, and it also causes VT (ventricular tachicardia). Just try laying off the sugar, stay hydrated, and eat some type of nuts every single night (for the magnesium). I recently read a very large, long term scientific study about the effects of caffeine and ectopic beats. They concluded that caffeine does NOT increase the number or incidence of ectopic beats. Sort of counter-intuitive, but according to this large study, it's true. I had quit caffeine years ago, but I still got ectopic beats. Now that I've read the results of that study, I'm having coffee and tea again!

    Back in 2014 at 23 years of age I experienced my first heart palpitation or what I can describe as a single thud in my chest. It really scared the shit out of me. My mind was running with thoughts of what you're describing. I saw a cardiologist had a ecg done and was clear of a heart attack. I used a holter monitor to record what I was feeling and the times that I felt the thud they said nothing showed. I also had a echocardiogram and was told that I have a healthy normal heart. But still I was scared. I ended up moving on and dealt with the thuds. Fast forward to 2018 and I am feeling them even more than ever and am now going to see my cardiologist again. And again the thoughts of death and leaving my family flood my mind. I will see him next week and will go through the same test but am very thankful for your videos. I can't say how amazing it is to have a cardiologist have a RUclips channel. Very selfless and it is much appreciate. Thank you for the videos and support. I’m healthy on paper and had a ekg and sonogram and was placed on a 24 hour heart monitor. The doc gave me a low dose anti-arrhythmic pill and told me not to worry since nothing is stopping my heart from beating. He even told me that he has been seeing people around my age with the same symptoms but they don’t know what’s causing it but it’ll disappear. My GP is dismissive of my views that attribute my condition to stomach problems and hiatus hernia. I have not been near the surgery now for three years as I have no confidence or trust on them, mainly due to their blind reliance on drugs that only address the symptoms and not the cause. I have researched and found your good self. My conclusion is that it is the fear coupled with poor diet that cause my condition and I have increased exercise and stopped eating sugar and reduced carbs, whilst increasing fat and meat. The strategy seems to be working well. Thank you for thinking ‘ out of the box’ and for your commitment to the people.
