if its "never before seen gameplay" it's most likely another entry in portal, since valve often tries new mechanics by using the portal franchise (the lab, hand lab, desk job, portal rtx)
Not a bad shout too, so far details don't indicate a demo or VR title, apparently its been in development since 2021! Which tells me this is a full title as demos dont usually take 2 years
How funny would it be to play in the green piss universe whose Cave loves to bully Cave prime. I mean, they're leaning ridiculously heavily into alternate universes within the HL/Portal universe, and there's the Perpetual Testing Initiative. I'd love to ship over giant cubes of piss through interdimensional portals

Its common for me that i see videos with very low amount of views.
I think this will probably be a prequel. Let me explain. The reason so many people want half life 3 is because everyone was promised one, but we never got it. The story never finished. Portal is already a complete story and as far as I can remember, all major questions have been answered. They will probably expand the lore with a prequel, and further explore the 1900's era of aperture.

Thought to throw my 2 cents into the ring. Leading up to Wolpaw's interview a ton of Portal stuff got pushed out. Desk Job, Companion bundle for Switch, RTX, etc. My dad thinks that they're testing the waters to see how the starved fans react, and honestly, I think the same. Maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorisr kook DYING for a mainline Portal game, but either way I still thought to mention. More kookier than that, Wolpaw had to be pretty damn confident to say what he did in the interview. No doubt do the people working at Valve, especiallg the writers have an idea on how big of a deal the games they worked on were and how rabid the fans are. I'd imagine that you'd need to be sure or at least confident that SOMETHING might happen. I'd bring up an analogy about hungry dogs, but isn't that what we are?

Just my speculation but it could also be related to the F-Stop project, since it's supposedly "never before seen gameplay," at least according to gamesradar. For those that don't know, F-Stop is a project Valve started when initially developing Portal 2 before it evolved into its current version. In the Final Hours of Portal 2, Geoff Keighley mentioned the mechanics in F-Stop were "fun and exciting, but surely this wasn't Portal 2" and that "Valve has asked that specific details of the F-Stop mechanic not be included in this story, as it is likely to be used in a future Valve product."

I feel like a Portal game would most likely be a side story in the Portal part of the HL universe as opposed to a Portal 3 starring Chell and GLaDoS, though there might be a creative way of doing a sequel that doesn't feel like "This shit again." It would be cool to expand on the backstory teasers for Chell.

Agreed. Dragging Chell back into Aperture wouldn’t really make sense. Chell would either have to go back for some reason (save GLADOS …maybe?), explore the outside world (don’t know how well the portal mechanics would work outdoors) or it would have to be a some sort of prequel/spinoff with a different protagonist. It’s also entirely possible that it’s not Portal at all but something entirely new.
@@fixminer9797 hell yeah! A portal spinoff with a different protagonist we’ve never seen before has potential. I know I’ve said it a million times in the reply sections of this video’s comment section (I will make this a separate comment) but a test subject we’d never seen before who has somehow escaped or something similar to that with a completely new different personality would have lots of potential.
If the story of Aperture Science is too complete for a sequel, it would be cool to see Chell stepping outside the Aperture facility with the portal gun if they could pull that off well to have puzzles involving it outside.
The overexcited child in me still wants it to link up with Half-Life and have Portal 3 end with Chell meeting Gordon where HL2: E2 ended, leading into Half-Life 3.
Or Chell could get taken into a Combine facility and have a series of “test chambers” there, with new Combine puzzle elements and an escape sequence.
Or imagine a co-op game with Chell and Gordon, where one has the gravity gun and actual guns (and a crowbar), and the other has a portal gun.
I am, of course, not encouraging anyone to get their hopes up. With that said: just about every VR demonstration by Valve takes place in Aperture (The Lab, that old system requirement test, Hand Lab) plus the new Desk Job. Portal is the IP that has probably gotten the most consistent love. If there were any game sequel I'd suspect Valve of secretly making, it would be for Portal (not counting Half-Life 3 because that wouldn't really be secret after HL:A).

I really doubt it's going to be something to view as "Portal 3". As it is, Portal 2 almost wasn't about portals. They already make a good game about portals, so they wanted to innovate with something new. They figured they could emphasize Aperture had other crazy experiments and anchor it around that. They're in that position again, Portal 2 is probably the peak of what "Portal" can be, and they handled that as the end of Chell's story. Valve's enthusiasm for VR makes me think they would want to still do VR, but compatible for non-VR since they just did Alyx. Kinda like what Cyan (makers of Myst) just recently did. So probably not using the player as a tool of physics. I'm expecting a title like "Fractal: Aperture Focus Testing", connection as a secondary thing, not primary connection.
Also Valve passed on the opportunity to make Black Mesa their own project, remakes might not be their interest. Remaster games have largely been a great opportunity for training newer employees up to higher standards while not trying to overstaff other projects, as well as being more revenue. Valve isn't structured like that at all.
I think regardless if it's portal related or not, it'd be nice to see valve making some actual games again rather than just making all their money off steam.

Even if it's a Portal installment, I'd bet it'll be in the same realm as Half Life: Alyx - a side story that avoids any hint of being the third in a trilogy

Technically Half-Life 2 had some puzzles too (physics based stuff), so it could be Half-Life 3.
But it could be a Portal 3, and I would love a new portal game.
Or it could be something completely new.

It is also a possiblility that is could be Arkane's Half-Life game. That was mostly a puzzle game. Though, Arkane Studios has previously stated that it had been abandoned, so it's very unlikely.
Even if it's not Portal 3, a new full-length puzzle game set in Aperture Science would be fantastic
If I had a penny for every time Valve teams were making "never seen before prototypes" and the game "definitely in works" I'd be able to at least buy a burger. Which isn't that much, but Valve is known for having dozens of prototypes that go nowhere. From F-stop to AR Half-life game, to many MANY prototypes for games that never came even close to attempts at production. I wouldn't get my hopes up.
If portal 3 comes out I will cry. I don't know why. That game was my life when I was a kid. I fucking love portal. The music alone...
I don't want a Portal 3. Portal is my favourite franchise, and it ended so perfectly. All loose ends wrapped up, Chell got her freedom, GLaDOS came to terms with her past and learned the value of friendship, Wheately got his comeuppance and saw the error of his ways. The story stops there. Any story for Portal 3 that brings back any of those characters would just be needlessly contrived.
The biggest complication with portal 3 is that portal 2 did a REALLY good job tying off any loose ends.

I really hope that this game is related to Doug Rattman, because we really don't know much about him and he's a really important character. Also, I also really hope that there's a Portal-themed survival game where you survive in the middle of nowhere in Michigan as Chell, because we don't know what happened when she was released.

A portal themed survival game where you survive in the middle of nowhere in Michigan as Chell sounds awesome, how come Valve hasn’t come up with it yet? It has potential, plus maybe in the game Chell can meet new people or something.

Woo, I get to pitch my Portal 3 idea again!
You play as Doug Rattmann, who survived the Lab Rat comic and now awakes in an incredibly advanced Aperture, having just been healed and fitted with tech without GLaDOS’ say.
She says she’s worked things out, and Chell has left and you’re free to go as well… but how can you trust what she says, when even the writing on the walls changes when you’re not looking? So instead, you take to the unused back rooms of the facility, occasionally cutting through the main testing tracks on your way through an Aperture that’s barely recogniseable, and keeping out of GLaDOS’ sight as much as possible.
The main gimmick of the game would be that instead of being limited to the usual Portal Device, you can trade yours in for new ones as you find them lying about, meaning that you can have more than one set of portals open at once.
Not only that, the new Portal Devices are prototypes for different variants of portal tech. You might get a gun that shoots massive portals, square portals, emancipation portals, portals that dissolve human flesh, portals that act like a mini black hole, portals that can stick around on moving surfaces, and more.
The "Mini Black Hole" thing reminds me of Aperture's Xen Grenades from the fangame Entropy : Zero 2, where they suck in all objects around them into a teleport, and then supplies and/or aliens are teleported back from Xen. Could be an interesting puzzle mechanic minus the destruction and aliens
From what I understand, They have literally one of the best writers in the entire gaming industry at Valve and they aren't using him. For his sake I hope he got his wish and he finally gets to make his Portal sequel he has wanted. After writing Half Life and Portal that guy deserves it, if he says he has been brainstorming ideas for over a decade wanting he deserves more opportunities.
I can understand from Valve's perspective the expectations must be insurmountable though. And if they do succeed in making something extremely high quality, a worthy sequel (which they care about and they likely won't show us anything until even if it takes decades) the pressure will be on all the more. Valve doesn't care about just releasing games to make a profit, they care about the long term growth of their industry.
I bet if it is a new game then it will be a prequel, probably in the Cave Johnson era of aperture. Who knows, maybe the player will be one of Cave's "lab boys" assembling gadgets, using blue paint instead of repulsion gel, and putting Cave in a computer like In "Aperture Desk Job".

My guess if Portal 3 actually happens: We play a new character that 100 years after portal 2 happened stumbles upon aperture.
Glados was alone for a very long time and invented a lot of stuff to test but didn’t have anyone to test it with, so now you’re with a possibly broken Glados that just wants to test again.
I'm still skeptical, but if this is true, then I might be about to find my new favourite game of all time

i'm curious to see where they go from a plot/lore perspective, the end in Portal 2 pretty much closed very well. As far as mechanics we may see, remember when leaked possible mechanics for a Portal 3 entry years back? with that stuff of perspective and objects changing size and what not, maybe they can re-live that idea? i mean, to this day a lot of people would like to see how that would work because it seamed to be a very strange yet fun concept

Honestly I hope it's something new. We keep asking for more portal, more half-life, more team fortress, but I think Valve can make any game great and I just want a game from them, not necessarily an extension of what we have

Neon Prime is actually set marginally in the distant Half Life universe, rather than Dota.
They're also doing some work on something called HLX, which may or may not be a sequel to HL Alyx and HL2 Episode 2, ergo being fucking *HL3* in all but name

i would sell my soul for Portal 3, but if they do make one i really REALLY would want it to be a prequel, or maybe an AU kind of thing like Desk Job. Chell and Glados’ story really had the perfect ending in P2, and i think there a lot of new things that could be explored :)

When have they ever failed us? The only things I can think of are "Portal RTX", which was mostly NVIDIA's fault, and "Half-Life: Source", which did what it intended to do upon release (demo the Source engine before HL2), but is broken nowadays due to Steam/engine updates and lack of support
I’m glad there’s others who’d love for there to be a portal 3, I’ve seen many who would rather prefer a prequel and while that’s understandable imo I think a continuation but with a different protagonist would be very interesting.
Steam link launched somewhat recently, so valve will release the index 2 as a standalone vr headset and portal 3 will come with it. The same way they did with Half-life alyx and the index

Like I previously wrote: a coop project with a portal gun in one hand, and the gravity gun in the other - would make a flipton of sense (and fun). The premise suits. We don't know how long Chell was in the relaxation vault, the G-Man can keep Freeman in stasis for as long as he likes, so they can easily meet at some point in the future to fight more adversaries, without breaking the continuity.
With the Source 2 engine, I think Valve going to change the AAA industry once again, regardless of what franchise it is. Let em cook!
the portal storyline at the end of portal 2 and the half life life story at the end of episode 2 seem to be really close and if there was a sequel it would be a half life game featuring borealis
The Portal 2 Ending is a few thousand years in the future tho so i dont believe it will be a portal x half life game sadly
the span between portal 1 and 2 is about 50.000 years as confirmed in the final hours of portal 2 and portal 1 takes place a short amount after the combine inavsion sometime in the 2010s

As a pessimist, I don't think they're making a portal 3; but if it's similar to portal (in terms of the puzzles and story) it will hopefully be a great game nevertheless

i think there was a "leak" about upcoming valve games and it was like theres gonna be a l4d3 after cs 2 and then they're gonna think about the half life series
I know this is a very unpopular opinion but portal was the second game I ever played and seeing rumors of a third installment just makes me so happy thank you 😊
I don’t think it’ll be Portal 3, not with “never before seen” gameplay. Once upon a time it might have been, after all F-stop did become portal 2, but that kind of pattern of “design something unrealistically experimental and practically unreleasable and scrap it and turn parts of it into a full main franchise game” is honestly not a thing with them anymore.
It’ll either be completely new and destined for failure, specifically to establish technology or ideas they can cannibalise, or it’ll be a Portal game no one wants, to establish whatever Valve’s next big hardware project is. Like The lab and Aperture Desk job. Don’t get me wrong, they have their purpose, but… when someone asks for Portal, they’re not asking for those.
Definitely won’t be a direct sequel but the idea of a new portal game is awesome

if they did a portal 3, they would have to do either a prequel or something that has a new storyline in it only because portal 2 had essentially ended the storyline. If they did some twist where Cave Johnson is actually evil bc of them uploading his brain into an AI and it goes berserk on testing new products and prototypes. i think that would help mend the portal storyline for a new game but i'm not sure how that would work out

I hope that there is a third game and it is about Chell! I know the story is like finished but I just fucking love chell and glados and a lot of the questions that have been answered are more like the mysterious clues that are gathered and concluded in a RUclips video essay titled like “finally understanding Portal” or some shit liiike I want some right in your face reveals about the company, the world outside of it, more exploration of the abandoned facility, what other living people might be around hiding in the abandoned building, and to see what Chell and glados are doing now after the portal 2 ending like- I just want more!!! I don’t care if it’s the same old same old and everyone else hates it, cuz I’ll fucking love it

Given that Valve has shown multiple times that they are incapable of counting to 3, I'll believe that Portal 3 exists it when I see it. That said, IF Portal 3 it exists then I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I played a community chamber and the mechanics were something that could be in portal 3. It was a button that switched the gravity of objects like cubes and it was really fun, the chamber was “force inversion”
i swear if this is a prequal and they call it "portal 0" or something like that i am gonna be so mad
I think if valve made it so it had a healthy balance between the half-life and portal atmosphere, it would be great! If it was too portaly, it wouldn't include Chell because she was released. If it was too half-lifey, it wouldn't be a portal title. It could be like Chell going through a robot rittled field and eventually reaching some sort of structures and using her companian cube to navigate the area. I don't really know how the story would play out but it could use some of this.

I think the next game will be a VR 'Aperture' game. I think they've reached the peak with Portal cenetered puzzles. So it makes sense to go back in time to old Aperture, and give us a puzzle mechanic that probably uses portals as a side element, but not the main element.
Knowing Valve, it's probably gonna be Dota: the puzzle game.
Any new Portal content will be awesome! I love the series and it is my favorite gaming series ever! The Portal movie has never been canceled, so I am still waiting for that.
Whilst waiting for the possibly never arriving Portal 3.... I would suggest trying Portal Stories: Mel
It's a community project, but honestly, you wouldn't know. The assets, the structure, the detail, the voice acting, the storyline and the puzzles are high quality, and fit into the Portal universe storyline very well.
If you haven't played it, check it out. I highly recommend it.
Valve making a puzzle game is literally just going to be portal or a portal like game.
It’s most likely F-Stop finally being introduced into a game. Whether it’s going to be implemented with the Portal IP is another question.
If there's a portal 3 coming, it'll be only a matter of time before another ARG is launched.
Having said that, I doubt this is going to be Portal 3. Valve is king at keeping their upcoming games secret, having them saying this pretty much convinces me that they know we won't guess it.
1:45 PLEASE for the love of god valve, if you're making a portal game at least give it basic VR support. Portal 2 just finally got a VR mod and people are loving it, despite that you guys thought it would not work well.

I wonder what sort of direction they'll take. Does GLaDOS start testing by testing on the portals themselves, only to grab some xenium and instead of opening a xen portal fuck up the space time continuum? Maybe get into a parallel universe? Maybe she stifles that testing urge instead to more just do research and only a bit of testing?
Maybe instead it could be some sort of prequel! Maybe back in the 1960s they did some more secretive stuff about a million new test elements. Or maybe it's in the 1990s/2000s and one of the chapters is that we don't hear the old voicelines of caroline but afterward with GLaDOS (as mostly caroline instead of caroline being literally deleted) screaming all autotuned and then everyone turning her on and off until we eventually reach the point where they attach all of the cores and she takes full control. This could also involve a timeskip if it's in the 90's or even the 80's at the start. Maybe we could even see time travel! Not as a mechanic, but because at some point something wacky happened and now cores are making their way back to the 20th century or on the citadel or something.
