What is tretinoin cream:
Vitamin A cream. It acts on the core of the cell and modifies the formation of layers of the skin.
Aim of this video
If you have been prescribed tretinoin cream by a dermatologist, then this video will help you understand how it may benefit you. This video will also help you in understanding this molecule better.
Please do not self medicate with tretinon especially if you have dry sensitive skin. Please consult your dermatologist before starting this cream.
How does it act
They normalise the skin around the hair, make the skin cells or keratinocytes less sticky ( cohesive) so that follicle opening is not obstructed and there is no back head or whitehead formation. It softens the skin and decreases stickiness so it can be easily shed and does not accumulate. Since they cause shedding of the dead skin layer, they also improve penetration of other agents applied with it such as antibacterial or anti-inflammatory. It is usually combined with clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Tretinoin also causes a reduction and even distribution of melanin, thus helping in mottled hyper-pigmentation and lentigines.
When to use?
Acne, photoaging, fine lines, dyspigmentation. Scars , stretch marks, open pores.
Less commonly : on warts, milia, even solar keratosis, keratosis pilaris.lichen planus, keoids and hypertrophic scars. Psoriasis, thinning of skin due to steroid
Pre- treatment to facilitate wound healind and reduce cahnces of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Pre procedure as it accelerates wound healing. So, a dermatologist may prescribe this to you for a few weeks before you go I for a procedure such as chemical peeling or dermabrasion.
How to use?
Start with a very small quantity like a pea sized amount should be enough to cover the whole face.
Use a cream formulation s it is less irritating
I suggest to start with short contact time. Wash off tretinoin after 30 mins then 45 mins, then one hour. Continue this for a week. If you are able to tolerate then you can leave it on over night. Little bit of scaling is expected, but if you develop redness and burning then you are applying too much of tretinoin. Stop immediately and consult your dermatologist.
Closed comedones are rapidly converted into open comedones and extruded, accounting for the flare of acne.
When will you see effects:
In acne: 2-3- weeks
In antiaging: regular use for atleast4 months.
Improvement in skin smoothness and tightening of skin is experienced in 2 to 4 weeks, decreased fine wrinkles and mottled hyperpigmentation is observed at 2 to 4 months, and coarse wrinkles require at least 6 months of therapy.
Open pores: 6-9 months . You may initially feel the pores ae looking worse, This happens due to exfoliation of skin.
Scars: 9-12 months
Stretch marks: 9-12 months
Side effects:
Acne may exacerbate when you start using this cream. But if you continue then new comedones will not form.
erythema, dry- ness, scaling, stinging, and burning
Neither erythema nor scaling is essential for response to be achieved.
Safety profile:
Not to be used if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.
Precautions to take:
Always use a good moisturiser whenever you use tretinoin to avoid dryness.
If you are applying tretinoin in sun exposed areas, then apply a sunscreen diligently to avoid tanning.

I am starting with the use of Tretinoin cream, and I wanted to ask you to please recommend some moisturizers that I can use with Tretinoin. I am currently using Ponds Light gel moisturizer.
you can use excel or coryza moisturiser if oily skin
venusia derm or physiogel if dry skin.
DON'T DON'T DON'T use this without doctor's prescription. I got a sever side effect - rashes all over body, stomach, face, ears, neck, hands, arms, back, legs literally everywhere. It's 6th day i am suffering from this - went to doctor & treatment is going on but it's very slow & doctor also said it will take 10-12 days to cure this side effect. I will suggest don't do trial & errors. Our overall health is more important than just facial beauty. & one more this this affects severely in pregnancy - as suggested by doctor, that's why he said - u might not be taking any chances but what if pregnancy happens - kuchh chije life me plan karke nahi hoti aur life time regret rahega feer.
Please, don't use any tretinoin neither the other creams without prescription & proper examination by the doctor.

Tretinoin is a blessing for me. from severe hormonal acne and cystic acne to a clear face it took me nearly a year. I am often mistaken as in my late twenties when actually I am 41.

i purchased the lowest strength first which is 0.025% of retino A which is easily available with the chemist here in india.
it is to be used only at night at least 1hour before sleeping so that the cream doesn't get wasted on your pillow cover.
wash your face clean, wait for it to dry completely for 15 minutes at least and take a small pea sized amount and place 4 dots on either side of your cheeks, your chin and forehead and massage it. it gets absorbed very fast. just keep away from your mouth area because tretinoin is powerful and will peel of your sensitive area like near the eyes and mouth.
you can use a moisturiser after 15 minutes. thats it.
don't skip a sunscreen at any cost because your new skin is more sensitive to your phone light, your computer and most important the sun.
start by using once a week for a month. then thrice a week for 3 months. after that you can use it alternate days for the rest of your life according to your choice.
initially peeling and flaking occurs, don't pull out the skin. just apply good moisturiser.
flaking stops after a year or two. Tretinoin is safe. please try not to use physical exfoliaters very often. you already have a new skin in every 20 days because of tretinoin.
you can use Aha bha once or twice a week as in facewash or serum but all this only after 8 to 9 months or else you will ruin your skin.
you can increase the strength to 0.05 after an year not before that. after 3 years when you are used to tretinoin you can shift to 0.1% strength.
always remember for tretinoin less is more. don't try to fasten up things. have patience.

I am using this retino-A 0.025 followed by a cetaphil moisturiser the same way you explained above since 5 weeks but i haven’t noticed any improvement in my skin, infact my skin turned darker and now it’s prone to acne and bumps all over my face. with open pores. Hello Dr. Aanchal, I was looking for specific reviews about tretinoin and I came across your video. In here you mentioned that the first 3-4 weeks of using the product the acne might get worst. However, I have a question, I had acne months ago and it stopped appearing. But I do haves light dark spots and somewhat a texture I would like to treat, will this product still cause acne to appear even if I don't necessarily have acne at the moment?

I'd suggest having a look at mastoora beauty retin A. Its mixed with aloe vera and other things so it works without causing irritation ( I personally use it)

I was diagnosed with vitiligo, and my dermatologist gave me this to use on my skin, but you just said it lighten up the skin... idk if that’s a good thing. I’m scared to use it now.
Tretinion is amazing but you must use sunscreen with it.
Often dermatologist dont explain things well or just throw out any medication without really taking care in what they are doing.
You should have a full treatment plan if not, change dermatologists !!!

Tretinoin is the medication form of Retin A.
Retino -A is just a brand name. The ingredient is tretinoin only.

Don't use salicylic acid with tretinoin, it can cause irritation or can even burn your skin .

Hii doctor .. I need your help , please ... Ma'am i ve been treated by a dermatologist for pimple ... I am still getting appointed by my doctor ... I got rid of pimple so far but i didnt get any markable change in my skin tone .... He advised me advan cream as part of treatment ... And glutone and juene tablet .... But still after couple of months i didnt get much results .... Please help me in dealing this situation ...

Thank you for such a detailed video on Tretinoin cream. I, myself, have been using Tretinoin 0.025% since past 1.5 months. In the video, you had discussed the importance of sunscreen while using Tretinoin.
I go for a run every morning around 6:30 a.m. and come back by 7:15 a.m., the sun is up by the time I return home. So I was wondering if it is fine to go for a run without a sunscreen early morning?
I think you should wear sunscreen even when you stay home or not as far as i know

Hello! I really love all your videos ❤️ My dermat suggested me to use tretinoin cream on the back of my arms and some area on my back because I have KP and they leave dark spot behind. So far it hasn't improved my condition rather aggravated it.. and when I informed the same to my dermat he suggested to increase the dose by applying it every night. May be with regular use I will get to see results.
My question is: as you said that it's imp to apply sunscreen every 2-3 hours. But these areas are usually covered with cloth, do I still apply sunscreen?? Please reply!!!! Thanks!!!!
