1. What is Adenomyosis?
Adenomyosis is a non-cancerous condition of the uterus and many symptoms are similar of fibroids. This condition results from the endometrial lining cells of the uterus cavity growing into the muscle wall of the uterus. At the time of the menstrual cycle, these cells in the muscle bleed as well. And bleeding directly into the muscle causes pain. This swollen area within the uterine muscle wall, called an adenomyoma, feels very much like a fibroid on examination and most of the time on ultrasonography examination it is wrongly diagnose as fibroid.
It is located throughout the uterus and it become bulky and heavier also called diffuse adenomyosis or uterine endometriosis or if in one spot (focal adenomyosis).
2. Symptoms of Adenomyosis
Many women those having mild form of adenomyosis may not cause any problems at all, Though it is considered a benign (not life-threatening) condition, it can have a negative impact on a woman's quality of life. The common symptoms are: -
1. Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding with clots.
2. Intense cramping pain during menstrual cycle that worsen with age
3. Passing of blood clots during period.
5. Bladder pressure leading to a constant urge to urinate
6. Pressure on bowel, leading to constipation and bloating
7. Abnormally enlarged abdomen
8. The uterus might also increase in size and feel very tender to the touch.
3. Latest Non-surgical Treatment: - Uterine artery embolization (UAE) for Adenomyosis
It is a minimally invasive interventional radiological procedure, which means it requires only a tiny nick in the skin. It is performed under mild anesthesia, feeling no pain and usually requires hospital stay of one night. patient can resume day to day activities in next day. No need for removal of uterus(hysterectomy).

UAE is always better as uterus is not removed
