The Steph Curry CJ Comparsion for that time was accurate. Shoot first smaller guards, offensively dynamic and having potential to be a playmaker. For that time period of who he was, not with hindsight being 20/20, it was solid
Am I the only one who thinks it holds up both great players (obviously steph is better) great handles great shooting great playmakers can pull up from deep in transition good eye for passing average to below average on defense I think this is a perfect comparison
The ben simmons to LeBron comparison isn't too bad but Ben Simmons never put in the work to get that jump shot. They attack very similar and they both have great vision also both are great Defenders.
@@solo13th Facts. Longevity is a double edged sword in the NBA. People see players like Dwight and Lebron now and seem to forget how they played in their 20s.
1:36: that comparison wasn’t actually horrible, the way this looked for shots and played in college was very similar to how Kawhi did in college. They were both big, strong, long forwards who played more bully/smash mouth basketball in college and were amazing defenders. Rui had somewhat of a shot his last year in college, but before that he was a bad shooter, Kawhi was a pretty horrible shooter all throughout college and didn’t develop a jumpshot until the NBA. Having watch rui play college ball and seeing some of kawhi, they played very similar. Kawhi developed a lot more but honestly, looking at Kawhi up to year 3, and where rui is now, it’s not a bad comparison yet, it probably will be cause for rui to fulfill it, he needs to also do what Kawhi did and make massive improvements to his game over the next 2 years.
man i agree with not comparing all time greats like lebron to rookies, but simmons being so much biiger, faster, stronger than anyone with a unique feel for the game, deserved the comparison. Not becoming a lebron or giannis level player is his fault, not the people's pointing out that he has the potential to..
Play style wise lebron and Ben were very similar, just Ben never learned to shoot. Otherwise they do play very similar so I don’t think that comparison was bad. Comparing play styles doesn’t necessarily equal potential
I never took draft comparisons as literal. Take the victor comparison to Tony, what they was saying that he had all the physical gifts to be an elite defender who could get a few points in transition but primarily be the team's anchor playing with a ton of hustle and physicality and based on what I remember of Victors college career it was a fair comparison at the time
LOL I just remembered to peep the Brandon Ingram one and he was compd to Tayshaun Prince/Kevin Durant. Hilarious considering both the latter KNEW how to exploit their top tier length at a pro level early on. Ingram in his Laker years moved like he was a smaller guy and not a 6'7" wing with a 7'3" wingspan. Hell even now with the Pelicans he knows what to do with his length on offense but not on defense.
Klay & Bellinelli is actually a pretty damn fair comparison to a lot of these others. The only one that's more accurate in this video is Simmons & LeBron.
I think a lot of people misunderstand the definition of a draft comparison. What I mean by that is the comparisons are not made because people think they are going to be that player (for the most part), it's more about who they play like at a lower level. Rui's game, for example, looks a lot like Kawhi's, but it's at a much lower level. It's a fair, accurate comparison.
I just loved the scout report that said Steph Curry "RELIES TO MUCH ON THE OUTSIDE SHOT" becomes the greatest 3 point shooter of all time. In Steph's words "What you got to say now!"
Am I the only one who thinks the Steph/CJ comparison is perfect and still holds up both great players (obviously steph is better) great handles great shooting great playmakers can pull up from deep in transition good eye for passing average to below average on defense I think this is a perfect comparison
Nah. I always bought into that Steph had the better court vision. Played like it under Mark Jackson when he was more of an on-ball PG distributor type of role. Then he was finally unlocked when Kerr took the ball away from him and made him play like Reggie Miller.
I think comparisons should always be made with ceiling, floor and a happy medium so people can get an idea of the best case scenario, that's what I see in a lot of these, they are not necessarily ridiculous but you need to take into account that there is a small chance of it happening.
I know half this video is evidence of why to not compare guys to Kawhi.......But Scottie Barnes is kinda a better rookie Kawhi so far, has all the tools, the IQ, the good organization behind him and arguably better offensively than a young Kawhi. Might actually live up to the comparison imo. (Obligatory, not a Raptors fan :p)
my personal favorite ridiculous draft comparison is whenever a lanky tweener forward has any semblance of a jumpshot and gets compared to Kevin Durant.
conclusion of this video - nobody knows how anyone will develop! I think all those comparison where right AT THE MOMENT. But those players developed different direction.
Draft comparisons don’t mean that’s who they’re gonna be or be as good as. It means they have the same tools, build, athleticism etcetera. You can’t compare a first round pick to Rodney Mcgruder on tv….
I guess people forget that all of this is part of the business side of the game. You're stupid to believe it's possible to find the next star player. All of this is just to hype up people about the NBA or college, and now HS as well. If there's no sign of the next gen having the next Lebron, Kawhi, Curry, etc to take over in future, then people aren't going to be excited about the future, meaning no money for the NBA.
Ben Simmons CAN be a offensive focal point. The problem is he was drafted to a team with Joel embiid on it. A iso scoring post center. Which is the worst co star Ben could’ve have. Plus they put him at a position he never played before. I think if he had his own team he would be averaging 20pts 10rebs 7ast. While also being an all defensive player. Just like he was at LSU.
Wiggins was compared to Michael not lbj... Ben Simmons if he developed offensively would have been a lot like lbj. I think that was a very good comparison. Steph and cj how is that a bad comparison? They are looking for upside. CJ isn't a true point guard but a small shooting guard with distance, that's a lot like steph... This video seems like you are just trying to make up content....
Not every player develops the same way or potentially develops the skillset they are capable of. However there were folks who believed as highly as the Spurs did of Kawhi's potential with his scoring due to his FT% in college and his consistent shooting motion. Spurs also had good reason to believe because they boasted one of the best shooting coaches (then) in Chip Engelland who had a profound effect with other Spurs' players and their shooting improvements.
BludAardvark I’m just saying people forget how long it took for kawhi to even be all star caliber yet alone superstar. They act as if he was averaging 20 his second year
Wait. Knowing what you know now, who do you compare Trae to in the NBA? Dame? Steph is so much the Warriors system and vice-versa that a player can have the exact same qualities as Steph and you still can argue it’s a bad comparison. No?
I imagine due to the heliocentrism and the evolution and transition to the scoring first true-pointguard and less the sort of weird combo guard Steph is?
Honestly, looking at the way Winslow has played over his career it’s actually accurate. Had a small section where he was the point forward and getting to the rim a ton and drawing fouls like Harden. But then the rest of the time being put into the 3 & d mold but shooting poorly from 3
I really dont think most of these are egregious tbh. They arent projecting how good these players will be but just how their play style IN COLLEGE compared to NBA talent at the time. Sure these a but of “this is what they could be potentially” but its mostly about who they played like in college. This is a really bad video😂
Couple of bad takes, here: 1. “LeBron James is, at worst, the second greatest player of all-time.” Nope. Ring-chasing isn’t a bad thing, but it comes at a price. LeBron has zero championships if he doesn’t stack the odds completely in his favor. 2. “Chris Paul is the ultimate point guard.” Nope. The ultimate point guard should be a leader, through-and-through, and should step up when the pressure is highest, not crack and choke repeatedly. See Magic Johnson.
