I purchased my p322 about a month ago. Have roughly 5,000 threw it right now. Shoot a 800 round box of federal per session. Completely clean after each session. I throw in a few drops of lube around the feed ramp and down the mags ever 4 mags or so. I've had a few days of shooting with just 2 or 3 failures to feed where the bullet would miss the barrel and sit vertically between the slide and the barrel. I absolutely love this this gun. Turned 10-15 minutes of shooting into 1-2 hours of shooting.
Funny thing is I haven’t had a problem yet and I have fired it around 700 rounds with Federal and CCI ammo. Cleaned it after every outing and borescoped it and it looked real good!

None of my automatic .22 pistols will eat lead round nose without fouling, often to the point of making it useless. Exception is a Ruger Mark. TX22 ate it's own barrel, this is post fix, by the way, with only a few rounds. I never get non-copper anywhere near the replacement barrel I bought from them. It cost more to ship the gun back to be fixed than the barrel cost, so I 'ate' the repair. My Glock says don't use non-copper. It leads like that after two magazines. So I don't shoot that in it anymore. The Smith Compact, which isn't made by Smith, was worse. I'm not sure you should use non copper plated in these guns. I'm planning on buying a 322, when they become available. I'll gamble on it.
THAT would frustrate anyone. I'm sure Sig will make it right, but you shouldn't be going through that the first time, MUCH LESS a second time on the same gun.
9.28 in and no shooting. Sorry to inform you the Glock G44 only comes in 22 LR. On the other hand, and yes I have two hands, I will stay with my Taurus TX. Sig should have there barrels made by Gomes’s machine works in my back barn drilling
Very interesting that the Thunderbolts gave you no trouble. Just put about 300 rounds of thunderbolt through mine with only about 5 light primer strikes and no leading that I can see. Perhaps the thunderbolts are what this gun perfers? Inexcusable either way, I hope you get it figured out!
Shot a rented p322 at the range yesterday. Shot very accurately for me and I may buy the gun. I'm mystified why the copper plated round would create more leading than the unplated thunderbolts. Do you think a) the velocity of the ammo or b) the shape of the ammo has an impact, or it's purely about good versus bad barrels? Did you ever solve the issue for your gun?
I have found that even with my rifles unplated ammo leads barrels in all 22's. While remington thunderbolts are my favorite squirrel round the barrels must be cleaned all the time and you can't shoot thousands of them without cleaning. I have put about 3,000 rounds of Aquila plated rounds from the regular 40 grains to the enforcers and super maximums along with some cci copper 22's in my p322 and there is absolutely no leading at all. Another thing to also think about is some plated ammo really is more like paint than it is plating.
Tossing it into the woods probably will help it immeasurably. Wonder if making bad shots on the golf course ends up with his clubs in the pond. Sig should be embarrassed for making a gun with continuing problems and then not fixing it. I bought a S&W 622 back in the early 90's and it had problems not feeding, light strikes, and ejecting and sent if back for repair and they put a Master Gunsmith to work on it and sent it back to me with a note from the Gunsmith apologizing for the inconvenience that their new gun had caused. Three decades later this thing is still the best shooting 22 I have, and I really appreciated them taking responsibility for their lack of quality and then took the pride to make sure that it was fixed for good.
You need the cheap Teslong USB borescope and probably the mirror pack for larger calibers. Yes the larger mirrors are with the money, especially when you get to 357 or larger.
I just picked one of these up. I put around 400 rounds through it so far without issue. I guess I got lucky. I will say, I like my FN 502T more, but the sig is fine so far.
If it didn’t give me content for RUclips, this gun would have been sold after my original 40th round fired lol. I have a boat that RUclips money pays for, so bring on the content!! 🤣🤣
This apparently a wide problem! Several people I know have had the exact same problem. They also sent their guns back in for repairs and they (Sig) didn’t fix the problem. It appears that Sig doesn’t care for their customers since the got the big military contract
Went to a sig day at local range. They where using the Remington thunderbolts for people to test the 323. Guy also informed me the gun does not like winchester 333 and Aguila.
There is no reason why a full size “training pistol” or “toy” like the 322 should be picky about ammo. It’s not like it’s intended to win any accuracy competitions.
The barrel must be machined slightly to small causing excessive heat through friction. I dont want to fault a company for giving me more quality for the same money. Everyone makes mistakes. Unless they refuse to fix their mistakes! I feel your frustration
Concur with your hypothesis Sig has a bad batch of barrels. And your theory one, or more, of their barrel manufacturing machines is producing out of spec barrels while the others are in spec. I purchase a P322 a couple of months ago and have experienced no issues. I understand your frustration. I'm interested in how this plays out.
Did you mic the the different brands of bullets? If a bullet is only .0005" undersized, it will leave lead vapor in the grooves that will condense on the bore. At .001" undersize there will be a quick and severe lead build up. Tighter bullets work much better.
Having been a Sig fan for years, I really wanted their new (then) Mosquito which turned out to be the worst .22 pistol I've ever owned. I was looking at this new offering and here we go again. I'm completely turned off by their lack of CC to the point that I will no longer purchase one of their produces. Too me, they are simply untrustable today. This is inexcusable in a firearm of any caliber. Period! More than likely, the button being used to rifle the bbl is worn and has a slight chatter when being drawn thru the bore. Or they are using a low grade steel with bad grain structure giving a very ruff finish. A good bore mop loades with diamond paste in the 7-14 range followed with a 3 micron then 1 to 1/2 micron will cure the issue. It takes only a few minutes, but one must be careful and NOT push eh mop oar tight patched button all the way thru the bbl to the point it is pushed out of the muzzle and or pulled back thru the muzzle. This will slightly bell the muzzle and kill accuracy. A syringe of the micron diamond past can be had from the bay for about 12 bucks for each grit and is enough to do many gun barrels. I follow with Flitz Metal polish (the German version) which is an non embedding type or using Bore paste and polish from Brownells Gunsmithing Supply. JB non embedding bore paste and bore polish is the brand. Although this may sound complicated, it in reality takes no more that 15-20 minutes and can greatly improve any handgun bore. KnifeMaker
Russ, you try the Aguila 40 gr super extra yet? I get ok consistency with the 38 grain but the with the 40's i get like 4-5 light primer strikes per magazine. All my other 22lr pistols run the Aguila like a sewing machine.
I was under the impression that the Sig 322 ate even cheap ammo without difficulty. Which gun does, if this one doesn't? We'd like to buy a plinker and want a reliable one for cheap ammo.
@@g4outdoors cheap box, large number ammo feeds without difficulty. I don't expect perfection, but I'd like the kids to NOT get turned off of shooting because every round they put thru is not high velocity or minimags.
I guess I have been one of the lucky people so far, I had 2 misfires my first magazine, then I put about 3000 rnds with no problems (various types of ammo, but no Winchester) my first cleaning was today because it finally started jamming with Armscore ammo. Hopefully, this gun will continue to run well.
The Glock 44 is silly reliable. I've fed it .22 Longs, 60 Grain Aguila SSS, cheap bulk ammo & everything in-between. It just works. The Taurus TX-22 is almost as good, but it has trouble with some oddball ammo, although the factory mags do hold more rounds than the Glock.
I've owned an M&P 22 for several years and it's never failed. I shot all kinds through it, including some Remington that the cases split, and it continued to work 100%. No leading issues either.
And never had fouling like you have shown. I re tested Rugers in a similar manner with federal bulk leads and after 11 mags in succession, as fast as I swapped them at 10 rounds each, I did get fouling in my 4-1/2” std MarkII!!!! I believe the rate of fire, as semblance of heat is the culprit. I cleaned the P322 and now have 8 20rd mags and if I load them with 12 rds and fire a reasonable rate of combat fire, no leading……..try chilling out and focus on form and target acquisition rather than super pistol man. Also found subsonic velocity ammo doesn’t lead foul. Go figure huh, less friction, less heat……..22 lead is rather soft so it will melt. I’m also not a fan of the fluted chamber but that’s actually supposed to help…. Anyway, slow it down on your P322, unless your dramatic launch at the range ruined it and the Holosun.
I’m having the same issue with my Taurus TX 22. Sent my gun back under warranty and it came back with a new barrel. The first barrel looked like someone ran a fine threaded tap through the barrel after the rifling was done. The second barrel came with a non concentric chamber. Rifling thick on 2/3 and almost none on the remaining 1/3 of the circumference. Brought it to the range with the replacement barrel and it was not accurate at all! I was so disgusted, I have never shot it again. I’ve been checking the Taurus site for replacement barrels and was just going to pay for it, but there’s never any in stock. Was really hoping the aftermarket would produce a good barrel, but so far I haven’t seen one.
The barrel is brand new, so no on that point. And I don’t know why it’s leading up. Could be an oversized barrel, undersized, a little hiccup in machinery? Who knows. All I know is, bullets aren’t properly traversing the barrel. I’ve used all kinds of ammo, and they all lead up.
As far as I'm concerned. Sig has solved all issues that I have seen with the p322. I've just recently got mine. After 500 or so rounds. No issues of any kind. Small test, I know.
16:59 Mines an early model, finally sent it off and got it back 2 days ago. They replaced the barrel that leaded, main spring, hammer structure seat, one magazine and adjusted the super stiff slide release. I got back a pistol that stove piped on the very first round I fired and the 2nd round. I decided to change magazines to get 3 consecutive rounds then a failure to feed...all rounds CCI mini mag. I contacted sig and was sent a link to their how to load a p322 magazine. REALLY. THE PISTOL SHOT MORE RELIABLY BEFORE I SENT IT IN. NOT TO MENTION I NOW HAVE A TERRIBLE TRIGGER were before I was tickled how good the trigger was! They no doubt have some serious issues...and I still believe the magazines are junk
Another update on my p322. I've since put another 400 rounds thru. Shot great with 1 stove pipe. That was with Winchester round. 50 rounds, only 1 stove pipe. But very dirty rounds. Pluss 100 rounds of Aguila copper plated. All perfect. More to come.
I guess I got a good barrel. I am at 2000+ and every 100-200 rounds I run a wet patch through and have not seen any leading (I only shoot Rem Golden Bullet and CCI).
I'm confused and I'm alittle bit new to 22s. Do you really have to use lead 22LR ammo? Why can't you just use copper plated 22 and not have the problem anymore?
Sig has gone started to go down hill for some time now I know 2 people that are having some kind of trouble with these sigs this I why I’ll stick to my Glocks my gen 3 G23 bought in 1998 is still Al original no problems at all thousands of rounds have gone through it
I feel your pain and frustration. Sig should be ashamed. This and tools and targets barrel issue has kept my money in my pocket. No way am i going to deal with that. I have 1022, ruger lcpii, lcr, kel tec p17 and cp33 and ibshoot almost exclusively thunderbolt. No such issue. I might add that i shoot allot at least 100 to 300 rounds range session . Shame sig!
I seen how sig did tools and targets.. thats enough for me to never buy a sig I believe with all my heart he would have been stuck with it had he not been a youtuber with a decent audience
Not normal at all! Even more high end .22lr pistols and rifles never experience something like this. Remington Thunderbolt may now have an undeserved reputation these days. I haven't shot it in years, but historically it was somewhat lower tier bulk .22lr food (always worked fine for me as budget plinking ammo, but dirty). Since Vista Outdoors (parent company of Federal, CCI and a LOT of others) owns Remington Ammo now, the quality should be on par with the rest of their products.
Hypothetically or logically correct anyway lol. I have a video with a side view of me shooting a bunch of 22 ammo. Thunderturds we’re still the dirtiest and smokiest rounds.
There is another RUclipsr who had the same problem with Sig p322. He was also p.o.'d about Sig Sauer customer service or lack thereof. Is leading of the barrel a result of how the barrel is machined or quality of metal in the barrel itself?
Does it still group fine? Zeroed mine at 10yds with the dot and shot a b8 @ 25 and kept in all black. Need to run much more ammo through mine. Only about 300ish rounds of copper plated and lead nose.
Hope everything's alright. I've seen a couple people have leading issues... but I'm not sure if that's common or not. A couple gun experts told me to never mix lead and copper rounds or it will severely fowl up the barrel. I think (but don't remember for certain) that they were saying that you can shoot lead then copper, but not copper before lead. Hope this helps and would like to hear anyone's opinion on this. (agree or disagree). (edit: not saying that this is the issue here, just a general statement. I also wondered if a barrel's bore can be too smooth, making bullets smear and not slide. Just a though I wish I could test myself).
@@BeeRumblin13 But they’re a bigger percentage of RUclipsrs. 2 or 3 out of 50 to a couple hundred represents 2 or 3 hundred out of 5000 (just a guess of the numbers, but the proportion is what matters). Sig themselves admitted it was a problem.
Just picked my P322 Sig up and ran 120 rounds CCI Mini mags with no problems and no leading up of the barrel. Love the pistol. Ordered another 1000 rounds from CCI.
You’re not the only one who’s having problems with that gun another guy from RUclips channel has the same problem he got it back from the factory He had the same problem in no time, I think I’ll stick to my mark 2 and it’s 40 years old
Seen a lot of videos on this and was just wondering if anyone has checked to see if the rifling in the barrels are concentric? I remember that was a problem when the Taurus TX22 came out and produced similar results.
I wonder if they are teaming these barrels tighter at the bore then at the chamber and throat in an attempt to get some sort of upgraded accuracy? From everything I’ve seen there is never any build up except at the last inch or so at the bore.
Man I wish I waited a bit before buying. Will just have to wait and see if I get a bad barrel. Fingers crossed. It may just be the first and last sig i'll buy
Getting my 322 back from Sig any day. They had my gun for a full day, that's it, so I have no expectations. The email informing me of this had an attachment with no explanation of what was done or corrected. Maybe it will be in the case. Idk. I have a feeling the gun just won't be very reliable. More of a toy than a weapon.
Sig has stated from the beginning their gun requires better grade ammo. You keep feeding it low end ammo expecting great results. At this rate you’ll never be happy.
Thanks G4 O. Great job. Good info. God bless. I’ll keep waiting and watching for a while longer before investing in one of those. Liked and subscribed. LETS GO BRANDON
Follow-up with my P322. Sorry to all those who have fouling problems, but I just ran another 250 rounds through mine and there is absolutely no lead fouling in my barrel and the powder residue is minimal as well - even in the chamber area. This time, I ran Aguila high velocity (plated), CCI SV (lead) & Federal (light) blue box. I had no malfunctions nor FtFires. Prior to this outing, I sprayed (brake parts cleaner)the snot out of & lubed & lubed the firing pin and the channel while stroking the pin back & forth. This seems to have cleaned-out the factory gunk and allows the FP to ride smoothly in its channel, providing sufficient strikes on the rims of all the rounds.

I bought mine last week shot 200 rounds bulk copper plated Remington. No issue.
THAT would frustrate anyone. I'm sure Sig will make it right, but you shouldn't be going through that the first time, MUCH LESS a second time on the same gun.
I have full faith they will make it right. It might be the 5th time, but I will get one that shoots right 🤣.
Tools and targets just got his back today for the 3rd time and guess what...same problem.
@@Cant_Stop-Wont-Stop0329 I just got my email that it will be here Tuesday. I’ll be a tad angry if it’s not right.

9.28 in and no shooting. Sorry to inform you the Glock G44 only comes in 22 LR. On the other hand, and yes I have two hands, I will stay with my Taurus TX. Sig should have there barrels made by Gomes’s machine works in my back barn drilling
I lithe Taurus a lot.
@@toms2494 yes!
I had a 1st gen Walther p22 that really liked thunder bolts lol but my father's p22 would malfunction every 3 or 4 rounds with them.

Mine is doing the same thing! I can’t stand that I’m gonna have to send it back to sig and pray they actually send me a barrel that works
It’s a grab bag of parts. Cross your fingers 🤣
@@g4outdoors well, I sold mine. I made the buyer 100% aware of the issue, gave him a discount and moved on
@@tonsofgunsoffun8516 as long as he gets a good barrel, it’s a great gun actually.
Mine runs great. No problems at all. I love it!
You need the cheap Teslong USB borescope and probably the mirror pack for larger calibers. Yes the larger mirrors are with the money, especially when you get to 357 or larger.
TOOLS and Targets has the same problem
I just picked one of these up. I put around 400 rounds through it so far without issue. I guess I got lucky. I will say, I like my FN 502T more, but the sig is fine so far.
So sorry you’re going through this. Frustrating beyond belief. Nothing worse having to return a brand new firearm for factory repairs.
If it didn’t give me content for RUclips, this gun would have been sold after my original 40th round fired lol. I have a boat that RUclips money pays for, so bring on the content!! 🤣🤣
@@g4outdoors Before I saw your review this morning, last night I let a good friend talk me out of my P322. I’m not going to miss it!😁
This apparently a wide problem!
Winchester x only ammunition had problem with 75 rounds leaded. Cleaned barrel shoot various other brands about 200 rounds no problems.
I don’t have precision mics for that. I shot the cheapest federal to top shelf Lapua and RWS. It did it to all of them.

Not one issue with mine. 1000 rounds strong. Sorry you had issues. I run Aguila 38 gr.
Russ, you try the Aguila 40 gr super extra yet? I get ok consistency with the 38 grain but the with the 40's i get like 4-5 light primer strikes per magazine. All my other 22lr pistols run the Aguila like a sewing machine.
@@robertpagel8951 The 40 gr ran good but I only shot 200 rounds. I had 3 lps. but the 38grn has been lights out for me.
tools and targets had the same problem and got his money back.
I was under the impression that the Sig 322 ate even cheap ammo without difficulty. Which gun does, if this one doesn't? We'd like to buy a plinker and want a reliable one for cheap ammo.
My current selection is any ruger mark series, Glock 44, or a Taurus TX22.
No problem with leading, but my wife's gun fail to lock slide to the rear, sent off to sign for repair
That really sucks dirty pond water.
The Taurus TX 22 is just the opposite. Too loose and very thin rifling🤪 Buy a Ruger
Hey G4, how about an update? Did Sig get it fixed??
I've a question, is the lead from the barrel being damaged or is it residue from the bullets?
The barrel is brand new, so no on that point. And I don’t know why it’s leading up. Could be an oversized barrel, undersized, a little hiccup in machinery? Who knows. All I know is, bullets aren’t properly traversing the barrel. I’ve used all kinds of ammo, and they all lead up.
@@g4outdoors bummer, the specs looked really good on paper.
@@Mr-Nival I wouldn’t have one single thing bad to say about it if it didn’t lead up. It’s a nice handling gun.
As far as I'm concerned. Sig has solved all issues that I have seen with the p322. I've just recently got mine. After 500 or so rounds. No issues of any kind. Small test, I know.
Mine was just a small sample of one gun. Your mileage may vary. But yes, I hear you.
My P322 was manufactued,july 2023.
I’m basically done with any polymer Sig. they are just not reliable. 365, 365xl and 320: all had extraction issues. 226 is solid though
Taurus has had similar leading problems with some of their TX22 barrels.
They messed up forging those barrels , common on those, should get the run around from Sig.
I guess I got a good barrel. I am at 2000+ and every 100-200 rounds I run a wet patch through and have not seen any leading (I only shoot Rem Golden Bullet and CCI).
I ordered a P322 for instore pickup. After seeing this vid I don't think I'm going to pick it up anymore.
They didn’t check the issue at all. It functioned just fine. The issue is leading! I would have called them and just ripped the a$$ to high heaven!
Maybe we should switch to decaff ?
Idk what’s up, but mine has never had this issue. I’ve seen a couple others have this same issue.
How’s that halosun hold up after that toss?
Just fine! I had full confidence in it, plus it has a warranty on it lol.
I'm confused and I'm alittle bit new to 22s. Do you really have to use lead 22LR ammo? Why can't you just use copper plated 22 and not have the problem anymore?
Because it's happening with plated ammo too.
Sig has gone started to go down hill for some time now I know 2 people that are having some kind of trouble with these sigs this I why I’ll stick to my Glocks my gen 3 G23 bought in 1998 is still Al original no problems at all thousands of rounds have gone through it
is it the material the barrel is made of?. or is the diameter not full width? or we just dont know yet
Shame sig!

I’m fully aware.
Does it still group fine? Zeroed mine at 10yds with the dot and shot a b8 @ 25 and kept in all black. Need to run much more ammo through mine. Only about 300ish rounds of copper plated and lead nose.
I'm glad I went with the Taurus TX22.
I'm just 300 rounds into mine since I just got it a few weeks ago. I am having feeding issues from time to time but no leading.
feeding issues are most likely from the magazine not being loaded just exactly right

These reviewers complaining are a small percentage of owners. Just read all the comments with no problems after a 1000 rounds with the p322.
