Having the same issue with mine. I've never had a gun lead like this, ever. Last test I did I used Min Mag, Golden Bullets and Blazer, and it started to lead up again. There's definitely a barrel spec issue. Sig is supposed to be emailing me a return label today. It will be interesting to see what they have to say/do about it.
I just sent both of mine off today. Hopefully I can get it back quicker than yours and steal the views from you lol. Congrats on your channel growth and I will be watching!!
I think I know what is a problem. In my new p322 i found that not diameter of barrel is an issue, but feeding bullet to chamber. When a bullet i moved to chamber it is scratched by groove between chamber rim and feeding notch . Scratching bullet causes two things : leaves free amount of lead in entry to barrel that could be pushed further by second bullet . Scratched bullet in one side allow the gas to penetrate between the bullet and barrel , causing lead heating and melting. It is quite simple to check - load bullet to chamber and remove it. When there are scratches then is the case. In my Ruger SR22 there is now one scratch - it has no notch . I do a simple handwork with file - I've saw a little bit more entry to chamber - now bullets are not scratched .
I bought a P322 a couple of months ago. I have not experienced lead fouling issues. I ran the same test you did this week (October 4). Three different ammo brands. Had a few light primer strikes, maybe one per magazine. So, I'm happy with mine. I can certainly understand your frustration.
I bought mine in early April when they had just come out and have about 2500+ rounds through mine without much issue. I had some ammo issues with Remington golden bullets and some light primer strikes on some Remington target rounds, but no issues at all with any CCI brand ammo. At 7 yards, I can shoot 1.5 inch groups consistently using a Romeo Zero red dot. It shoots better than my unsteady hands can hold. I clean it every trip to the range and shoot about 150-200 rounds per session. I am more than happy with mine.
Sounds like the same issue I was having with my TX22 when it first came out. Taurus replaced my barrel, and I haven’t had any issues. The original barrel was badly rifled. The second barrel was beautiful.
I just picked up p322 with the dot 200 down range CCI rounds, no leading, no feed problems, no fail to feed. I did insist on geeting the newest manufactured date Feb.2023. Just wanted to share my findings if it is worth anything.

Also, I am tired of everybody saying the words for the price I don’t know what this means because I don’t have a lot of money to throw around and I do not think that 300-400 dollars is chump change.
Just got mine back from sig. The notes said the barrel was out of spec so they replaced the barrel and mainspring. So I’ll have to give an update on how the range trip goes tomorrow.
@@g4outdoors I totally agree. The accuracy sucked when I had it out the first time. Shots started to go way low or far right of center. It was very inconsistent. I hope the new barrel doesn’t do that.
Worst part of this leading issue is dealing with Sig customer service. I had to send mine in twice. Not sure if they fixed it second time but I was dealing service rep arguing with me about the problems I was having. I said rounds started to keyhole and he said they weren't and that sometimes 22 rds make bigger holes in paper depending. I told him I retrieved the target and pushed the paper back together from behind and could see the outline of the bullet hitting sideways. He still argued with me. There were other issues where he had similar arguments. I was so mad after getting off the phone. I got the gun back and sent it for auction. Gun was made in Oct 2023 and has had barrel replaced twice. Sig sux.

It's amazing how shiny and smooth the barrels/bores are on the P322, but they still get bad lead fowling. I wonder what the issue is. I hope they tell us what it is and fix it (without denying it and telling everyone there's nothing wrong). You can manually push a bullet through the barrel and then measure it to see if it's over/under sized. I would guess they're either oversized or the barrel is stretching too much, but only because I've never seen a barrel get excessive lead fowling from an undersized barrel and/or oversized ammo. I've seen many reloads with oversized lead rounds (from soft lead to hard cast) and have never seen it cause excessive lead fowling.
Ive had one about a year and have put around 2500 rds through it. Had some feed issues but when i started pushing up on the magazine to tighten the stack the issue went away. Polished the feed ramp and runs like a sewing machine now. You cant go wrong using Ballistol lube either. Put a Vortex red dot on it. Very accurate. Went out in the backyard and shot 100 rds this evening
I bought 2 of them when they first came out. Have never fired one of them but the other one I have shot everything thru it and have never had a failure to fire, extract or experienced any of the leading issues you speak of. I generally run mine with a Silencerco Sparrow. I can see how that would be frustrating. Good luck
Thank you brother for sharing this, i was dead set on picking up a p322 but now after watching this I will hold off til they correct this problem. I shot a box of cheap federal 325 ct out of the tx22 yesterday and have not cleaned it yet so just took a look down the barrel and was surprised how clear it is. I still want the p322 but will just hold off a bit. Thanks again
I have had a P322 for about 5 months. Took the light off because no matter what we did it went low left. Put hard sight on and it's fixed. I checked my barrel because of this video. It's fine. I have put about 3K round thru it ... CCI 22LR Mini Mag Hollow Point. Barrel is perfect. I will checlk my barrel every time I shoot though. Thanks
I have 2 Ruger LCP 2 in 22lr. I just sent back to to Ruger. I've fired nearly 1000 rounds through each one with no problems, now both barrels leaded up and keyholing on the target @10 yards
He did a follow up video yesterday, using various top quality ammo. If leaded up badly with just a few rounds. He showed the bore with a bore scope between shots. That barrel is defective, typical Sig crap quality these last few years.

Brian with Tools&Targets creator got the run around by Sig trying to get a new barrel put on it. It took him about 6 months to finally get his money back for the gun after them not fixing it after 3 times sending it back and forth to them.
Just bought one today at bass pro. Fired around 250 rounds through it and I had about 30-40 light primer strikes. The accuracy got worse the longer I shot it. It’s going back to sig tomorrow.
@@g4outdoors atleast they replaced the barrel. I hope they fixed the light primer strikes too. The CS rep was trying to tell me it’s breaking in. I said uhh no way man lol. There’s an issue here and he finally agreed with me.
@@g4outdoors I just bought my girlfriend a Walther ppq 22LR and it’s a tack driver. No light primer strikes at all. Fired 500 rounds in one range session and ate everything. I wish I just got myself one of those instead.
I was one of the unlucky ones that bought a P322 and Sig replaced the original barrel 3 times. The Lead was literally oozing out the muzzle of all 4 barrels. What a dumpster fire that is?
Well now this was a interesting video and I own a sig Sauer p322, I have fired probably a little over 1000 rounds through it of all different kinds of bulk ammo and have had no excessive leading problems with my barrel. I also have a Taurus TX 22 competition and it is a great 22 semi-auto and it's hard for me to decide which one I like the best. I would say that the Taurus tx22 competition has a slightly better trigger than the sig Sauer p322.
Try the same thing with a 38 special revolver, same round count, same rate of fire with lead bullets at 850ish FPS velocity.(a fair bit slower than the 22LR) I wonder if the same thing would happen? Or maybe try another brand 22LR pistol and see if it does the same thing. Just curious?
How many rounds fired until you noticed leading/accuracy issues? Took my new P322 to range this morning and fired 300 rounds of CCI standard velocity ammo just to see if mine had the leading issue. CCI standard vel. is just lead (no plating) and I got great accuracy and no detectable lead in barrel. Tools&Targets got his to lead after like 80 rounds.
Mine fires everytime you pull the trigger but it does have a little lead started at about 250 rounds. I thought i escaped the defect but after gettting a good light and really looking good i noticed it. This is the first sig i've ever bought. Of my handguns being a s&w shield ruger lcp and beretta m9 i'd have to say sig doesnt have a good standing with me in comparison.
I've heard that sig has admitted to an engineering problem with their 22 barrels and are still in the process of trying to figure it out, looks like a major F up but I can't see a fix other than replacing all barrels because the leading up of Barrels is extremely unsafe period
I made my third trip to the range with my Sig P322. For the second time, I fired 115 rounds without a failure. I fired 95 rounds of the CCI Clean 22 Hyper Velocity 31 grain rated 1550 fps. I shot 10 Federal Punch rounds and 10 Stingers. I hope someone will do a review of the Clean 22 Hyper Velocity 31-grain ammo. So, at this point I have fired 415 rounds with one light primer strike and one jam.
What do you think about cleaning the barrel and taking it to a machinist to measure the barrel bore diameter? It seems that the barrels are bored out of spec.
Makes me wonder if it’s not a feeding issue causing the leading. Maybe the slide, ramp or barrel is damaging the lead bullet causing deformation thus causing lead build up. Just a thought
My TX 22 has a nice shiny barrel after over 1000rds without issue. Clean it after every range day, with just CLP and a bore snake. Its Sig's problem not the ammo.
I took mine to the range and right out of the box put 400 rounds through it without issue although about 3/4 through I noticed I was key holing which wasn't even something I knew what it was it was just like instead of holes in my targets I had little lines, apparently from the bullet turning. Got it home want to clean it and the brass weight of my bores snake would not fall through the barrel. I literally had to pull it out with pliers. Then when cleaning it with a brush and cleaning rod the cleaning rod got stuck in the end. I didn't look at it but I remember thinking it just seemed too tight. So I assume the fear is it gets too filled with lead, a round gets stuck, and then the round after that is a catastrophic failure, right?
I haven’t taken my hypotheticals that far yet, but I can see where that very well could happen. The return process is just a phone call away Chris. They email you a shipping label, all you have to do is go to the fedex office. No reason not to.
Something you said is concerning to me…. You used your knife to scrape the lead out of the barrel….. a knife blade is harder than a barrel. Your probably marring your surface giving lead something to adhere to. Also, I would review what brushes and how you use them to clean the barrel. Knew a guy used a cheap cleaning kit and it scratched the barrel which gave the lead something to adhere to and leaded up all the time. Had to replace his barrel.
I bought the P322 a month ago and immediately ran 80 rounds through it with no leading or FtFs. I did however notice when I got home the rear sight had fallen off and was lost , WTF Sig? They are sending a replacement but still left a bad taste in my mouth since the gun was new. Not sure I'll ever buy another Sig after the first and only Sig I ever bought had an issue first day.
So your gun ran flawlessly when you immediately took it to the range. However, your rear sight fell off…. Yet Sig took care of you and made it right and now you don’t want to get another Sig or do business with them. Really?? The way I judge a product is holistically. I take into account not only performance, but how I’m treated when it’s not performing. If I had a good customer service experience, where they took care of me, especially with no questions asked, I will almost always be a return customer. Are you really thinking this through?
For lead removal get a "Chore Boy" solid copper cleaning pad, I can only find them on Amazon, grocery and other box store only carry copper plated steel pads...DO NOT USE THESE. Unwind the Chore Boy so you have a single strand of copper, wrap that around your cleaning brush and have at it. You'll find out how much and how tight a wind you need from the stiffness of running the brush back and forth through the barrel. Are these P322's made by Sig or Umarex?
I just purchase mine a month ago from my local dealer..haven't shot it enough to have a leaded barrel but when I do or if it happens, I will be disappointed. Sig has always been my go to firearm company to obtain reliable weapons. I carry a German Sig 226 in 9mm for police duty and I have no issues. I had a Sig 516 rifle with no issues but this 22 pistol from them...Will see.
After about 300 rounds the muzzle on my P322 is clean. No leading in the barrel, at all. Zilch. I'll have to shoot some more. Really hate to go out and shoot.
This is something you expect out of a company like Taurus on their TX22 but Sig? That's highly disappointing. So many problems with these 22 semi autos. My TX 22 shoots great but the rear sight is junk so are the slides on these guns. Mine will break sooner or later. Makes you wonder how they ever get released to the public.
I’d stay away from that gun. Disappointing, and I’m a Sig guy. Makes one wonder if they even test them at the factory. Wouldn’t they have 5he same leading issue?
i have the tx22 and the 502. that 502 has some serious problems. i got a reed dot sight and tried to zero it in. but cant even get one magazine without several failures. i think there is something going on with the barrel or slide. i have about 800 plus rounds through it with all kinds of issues. I cleaned it every 250 - 280 rounds and still. i absolutely want to love the 502 because when it works it feels good especially comped. solid weight to it and it super comfy for my tiny hands. it shoots far up left. seriously wtf. something going on
You are right. It “could” be, but it’s not. They have made many flawless models, then others barrels start leading? The specs on their machining or quality control,,,,, well I guess both are off.
Ok what's the beef here? You're sending it back to Sig and getting it fixed. At least you're in good hands with SIG. You should have made this video after you worked with SIG to get it fixed. It's better to have a lemon firearm from a good caring firearm maker than a lemon firearm from a trash firearm maker. I'd rather not have the TX22 if Taurus will treat you like trash down the road despite it being good out of the box
Why didn't you shoot paper to see if any of them were tumbling? stupid test. 99.99% of the time bullets tumbling are a result of too slow of rifling twist to properly stabilize the bullet.
@@laughpolice9068 Sigs boot, really.....sorry you are having problems, I however don't have this issue.....I put almost 2 to 3 hundred rounds through mine with no issues, no leading...I can see the lands and grooves with no issue. My wife put twice that through hers...no lead fouling...
I shoot about ~200 rounds thru my Keltec P17 using CCI Mini Mags. Sometimes i will have some specs in the barrel, other times its mint clean. Either way, when i get home i clean the barrel out regardless. So the question is, what is up with these P322 barrels that people are getting lead build up ??? Is it their ammo ??? I find it hard to believe that its ONLY a P322 barrel issue because there are DOZENS of 22LR barrels that never have a leading issue .. EVER. I think its the ammo OR these people are not cleaning their guns after shooting them because you SHOULD clean it after practice.
my glocks with .22 advantage arms uppers would run this sig piece of junk into the dirt....you want a nice semi auto 22 pistol get a browning or a ruger
Try to get the temperature at the tip and by the ramp of the barrel. I bet the barrel is too small causing heat and melting the round going through the barrel.
I bought my 322 the day after they were introduced. I finally got out to my shooting spot and tried to zero it. It seemed to shoot alright for the zeroing stage. Then I put another few magazines thru it, and I also started to get the sideways keyholing on paper and all of a sudden I couldn't even hit a 10" target at 10 yds.. Took the gun home and started to clean it, and noticed there was quite a bit of lead buildup, just like your tests. I decided to try different ammo, but here in arizona the fire restrictions came up so I haven't been able to test with different ammo. It looks like I need to send this back to sig. What email address or phone number are you using to contact Sig? Do you know if they will send me a new barrel if I send them mine? TIA Bob

Just bought one today at bass pro. Fired around 250 rounds through it and I had about 30-40 light primer strikes. The accuracy got worse the longer I shot it. It’s going back to sig tomorrow.
They sent me mine back with a new barrel today. We’ll see how that works soon.
@@g4outdoors Have a follow up review video about how it went?
@user-lg9in3lz4o Free ammo?!!
I was one of the unlucky ones that bought a P322 and Sig replaced the original barrel 3 times. The Lead was literally oozing out the muzzle of all 4 barrels. What a dumpster fire that is?
what ammo ??
Well now this was a interesting video and I own a sig Sauer p322, I have fired probably a little over 1000 rounds through it of all different kinds of bulk ammo and have had no excessive leading problems with my barrel. I also have a Taurus TX 22 competition and it is a great 22 semi-auto and it's hard for me to decide which one I like the best. I would say that the Taurus tx22 competition has a slightly better trigger than the sig Sauer p322.
We just bought the TX22. It’s a fantastic gun! The recoil management on that thing is just nuts! It shoots so soft.
Are fluted barrels compatible with rapid fire? What happens if you pause between each shot?
How many rounds fired until you noticed leading/accuracy issues? Took my new P322 to range this morning and fired 300 rounds of CCI standard velocity ammo just to see if mine had the leading issue. CCI standard vel. is just lead (no plating) and I got great accuracy and no detectable lead in barrel. Tools&Targets got his to lead after like 80 rounds.
No problem what so ever w mine. Have ran several different brands or 22lr all have preformed flawlessly same w the pistol.
Got a new SIG P322 (August 2024) and having terrible leading issue. What crap!
I've heard that sig has admitted to an engineering problem with their 22 barrels and are still in the process of trying to figure it out, looks like a major F up but I can't see a fix other than replacing all barrels because the leading up of Barrels is extremely unsafe period
Why "these" barrels over other 22LR barrels ???
What is wrong with the P322 barrel that NO other 22LR barrel has an issue with leading ???
I made my third trip to the range with my Sig P322. For the second time, I fired 115 rounds without a failure. I fired 95 rounds of the CCI Clean 22 Hyper Velocity 31 grain rated 1550 fps. I shot 10 Federal Punch rounds and 10 Stingers. I hope someone will do a review of the Clean 22 Hyper Velocity 31-grain ammo. So, at this point I have fired 415 rounds with one light primer strike and one jam.
I’m going to have to look that ammo up. I don’t think I’ve seen that before. Awesome video idea too! Thanks!
does this gun have polygonal rifling? if it does it will lead alot more
I have a new one. Built in Feb 2023. 2,000 rounds no Cleaning. None of these issues showed up. They probably got the issue corrected now.
You would think! I’m sending mine back for the 3rd time!! 😡
@@g4outdoors Wow!
@@g4outdoors my first Sig. 🤞
@@thomasc5817 I hope yours runs good. You will enjoy it.
I'm having the same issue and Sig said its just because 22 ammo is dirty. C-mon Sig
Lol. I’d have some “extra” words if that’s what what they said to me 🤣🤣
My TX 22 has a nice shiny barrel after over 1000rds without issue. Clean it after every range day, with just CLP and a bore snake. Its Sig's problem not the ammo.
Most .22s just need the carbon wiped out.
Shouldn't be any real leading issues unless there is an issue with the ammo.
In my opinion, any Gun,
no matter brand or caliber should fire any ammo reliably.
@@g4outdoors Good to know. Wondered how well Sig's warranty returns work.
Tools & targets RUclips channel just did the same Video same ammo same problem as you.
It’s the gun.
So happy I didn’t buy one yet
I got my shipping label from Sig to return it for warranty work. Stick around!!
I've never seen this before... I would be worried about how safe is it to use ???? Please keep us updated on the situation. Thank you, best regards.
@user-lg9in3lz4o Free ammo?!! Lol
Have you contacted sig again? What did they say
It is currently at their repair facility. Hit the subscribe button so you know when I get it back and the outcome!
Sig makes them and I’m not cleaning a plinking barrel every 100 rounds. I think you’re missing the point of the video.
ELEY 22lr sub… no problem… I believe when the barrel heating up the lead projectile will cause the problem…
How are you making out so far with that Sig?
2nd video I’ve seen about leaded up barrels on P322
Had the leading problem with my S&W Victory and burrs on the rifling, got rid of it.
I actually ran about 400 rounds of M_22 ammo a week ago, I also had LOTS of light primer strikes, but not a leaded barrel, thankfully!
Just got mine last week, 250 rounds of Norma tac22 and no issues.
After about 300 rounds the muzzle on my P322 is clean. No leading in the barrel, at all. Zilch. I'll have to shoot some more. Really hate to go out and shoot.
OK Sig !
lol...
Following this. 250 rounds through on Saturday of cci Blazer. Dirty but not leaded up like that. That’s weird.
Maybe the mag dumps?
What would be the cause of this issue?
Mine lead very slightly. I clean mine thoroughly every 250 rounds. Leading is more often about the ammo than the gun. Use CCI hottest ammo.
I bet the barrels are too big like you said.
I’d stay away from that gun. Disappointing, and I’m a Sig guy. Makes one wonder if they even test them at the factory. Wouldn’t they have 5he same leading issue?
Same problems after 300 rounds, the Fn502 is better, it is more precise. although it discharges the casings in your face
i have the tx22 and the 502. that 502 has some serious problems. i got a reed dot sight and tried to zero it in. but cant even get one magazine without several failures. i think there is something going on with the barrel or slide. i have about 800 plus rounds through it with all kinds of issues. I cleaned it every 250 - 280 rounds and still. i absolutely want to love the 502 because when it works it feels good especially comped. solid weight to it and it super comfy for my tiny hands. it shoots far up left. seriously wtf. something going on
How could SIG make a pistol like this and then place it on the market?
make a pistol like "this" ??
What exactly does that mean ??
I got mine a few weeks ago. No leading issues, thankfully
If it's going sideways, It could be the rifling twist rate
You are right. It “could” be, but it’s not. They have made many flawless models, then others barrels start leading? The specs on their machining or quality control,,,,, well I guess both are off.
You're not getting failures. At least you can shoot without stopping! We're both fouling the barrel end. Not good.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Very informative video!
Great video, very informative.
G4 Outdoors - did you ever get this resolved?
I never use Winchester 22lr ammo. Ever.
No problems
They are lead alloy swaged bullets.
Potato patahto. I know where I’m at lol.
And this is why you should never buy a new gun when it first comes available wait till all the bugs are worked out
Typical Sig. Never buy the first year. Wait for the gen2 who usually comes up after 9 months.
Three months guys
Winchester M22 is the WORST $H!T AMMO, leads up hard to clean.
See tools and targets video.. sig is not fixing the problem
@@snapbean Good to hear. I've never needed to use Taurus warranty, but only hear (read) plenty of bad about their CS.
Why didn't you shoot paper to see if any of them were tumbling? stupid test. 99.99% of the time bullets tumbling are a result of too slow of rifling twist to properly stabilize the bullet.
Clean your gun regularly and you won't have a leading issue
people are having this problem out of the box. Take Sig's boot out of your mouth
@@jamesautry7432 prove it. post a photo or video that you actually own one.
Really, you sound very juvenile
Too much talk about the ammo. Get to the point, already.
Whatever. I clean my guns after I shoot them. I have a P322 on the way. Toreass? No thanks.
Best of luck to ya! I sent mine back and received another out of tolerance barrel. It’s going back again.
my glocks with .22 advantage arms uppers would run this sig piece of junk into the dirt....you want a nice semi auto 22 pistol get a browning or a ruger
Why waste your money on a sig
not one, but TWO worthless sig pieces of crap!! nice!! new sigs are a joke. gotta go back to the OG P226s for good solid Sig before they shat the bed
TIA Bob
