- In this video I install a Samsung 1TB GB SSD 😲 (amzn.to/3A8CVkf) to my MPC LIVE II | Retro Edition. Fortunately my drive was already formatted by my good friend Mike V (@mikevceo on IG) who also loaded it up with TOO MANY EXPANSIONS to List. But if yo choose to do it yourself all you have to do is following my physical install and connect to your OS disk management to format the SS Drive to exFAT so that you can use the SSD on both Windows OS and Mac OS if needed.

I had a 2TB and never used it . Then I got this Live 2 and now I space for days. Keep making the videos , I found the MPC and Ableton elpful I got FOre Midi Dpter

Two things: (1) You have to format the drive before you can use it. Since there isn't a good reason not to, you should probably format the drive as exFAT because this will allow both Macs and Windows to read the drive. If you have an available empty 2.5" enclosure, you can use your computer (either PC or Mac) to format the drive. If not, if you plug your MPC Live (either I or II) into the USB of your computer and use the MPC in the controller mode, you can format it inside the MPC (but you still do the drive formatting from the computer, and in this case the MPC is just acting like an external USB drive enclosure) [if you don't know how to do this look for instructions by Googling "Formatting an SSD in an external enclosure for "]. (2) I have never attached an SSD to anything using screws in any device in which I've installed an SSD (more than 100 devices). Today, the easiest thing to use is high quality 2-sided tape (believe it or not, that "Alien Tape" you have probably seen advertised on TV is perfect for this application). The advantage of using tape is that you never have to worry about the finding screws, loosing them, or finding a screwdriver that fits them. No SSD ever gets hot enough to require the 'direct-to-metal' radiator effect, so the tape will do just fine. Also, since the SSD weighs close to nothing, the tape will provide fastening that will probably last longer than you.

I believe the screws come with the MPC which is why it’s so crucial to hold on to them bad boys ‼️
Just make sure you type "Install AND FORMAT " .You will then get the help you need to FORMAT that new ssd drive

I installed a 2TB SSD in my Live 2. I don't know what goes where because it looks like my projects are saving to internal memory.
Wooooww! U have to create a folder onto your new drive and begin to start saving there otherwise it’ll default to the built in drive

Everyone let me warn you , this video is ONLY if you have recieved a hard drive that is already formatted . You MUST format the drive in order to use it .

installing it is easy , whats not easy id figuring out why you still get low memory warnings or not enough space warnings when theres over 500 gb on the ssd just installed and ot is working and showing up in places . Why cant i set it to just save everything to the ssd ? this is what i dont like about mpc and the force i owned . Too much hassle for basic procedures . I read online to click on the auto save button and i did that but there is no option i see to direct it where you want the auto saves. or any saves for that matter . i gotta go into my ssd where i loaded samples and one by one load every dam sample then i get memory too low nonsense. annoying . just got a new mpc live 2 today and already thinking of selling it and just sticking with my other gear .
To be honest, your issue does sound very unique, and I can say that I haven’t had that issue… But I’ve had my fair share concerning the 60 to 90 minute pause upon starting up my MPC every time

Should it really matter which ssd hard drive brand to get ? Everyone getting Samsung!!! I had got An PNY 1Tb
It honestly doesn't as long as it works. Samsung is just a reputable brand which I prefer. I don't have much experience with PNY and rather not chance with my sounds with a premium device... Besides I got a good deal on the Samsung 🤷🏿♂️

Tbh those were the days because the limited storage cases us to think out the box to get the most out of our gear… like sampling at high speeds to then slow it down getting different texture to the sample

Sheesh thanks for letting me know I can do much better lol. Tell me though approximately how long is the wait time when starting up (the time when the MPC Live “freezing” when I’m assuming it’s reading the SSD)

Where did you get the screws from?
They are in a very small zip lock in the packaging of your MPC Live 2.
The screws came with the hard drive

Mpc they came with the mpc live 2 in the bag with the manual. My hard drive did not come with the screws to mount it.

I honestly wish I knew what format to put it in… But my hard drive was sent to me already format it with many of my expansions already installed.

How do you Format your ssd
TBH I haven’t had to do it since I’ve gotten my drive reformatted for my guy…. But I would assume that a new drive would have either a prompt that instructs you, or it’ll be in preferences
