    Was a 9 handicap golfer, and gave up golf 18 years ago, as I was addicted to the game, and my work was suffering. Now, just getting back to the range, and your videos have been IMMENSELY helpful Thank you.
    About a week of just hitting irons, today planning to start withy the 7 wood off a tee, and looked for a tutorial, and this was just what I needed.

    Love hitting 3w off the tee. Been hitting 3w great and while i may be giving up a few yards by not hitting driver, it helps my game stay more consistent.

    I have been looking to see how high I should tee my 3 Wood. I like the first one there. 1/3 of the ball above the club head. Stinger idea is good too. Thank you Adam. Appreciate it ! I use a Ping G 400 3 wood by the way. I really enjoyed this video. Right down my alley.

    I’m not all that confident in my driver so the first three long holes I use my 3wood to acquire a feel before switching to the driver. Works out pretty good

    -{I don't have a "Driver" Licence -- but i'm happy with my 3 wood - T }-
    I like the way that -Adam Bazalgette- emphasises the "strategy" of the 3-wd ... [vs the "power/distance" of a driver] ..
    I play off 10 h/cap (55ys/o) and never play the same course more than once/mth.
    ... so every round is essentially 'zero local knowledge' esp. w.r.t. wind ...
    With my 3-wood ... I can match many 6 - 16 h/cap's off the tee in distance
    ... and I have driven the green on two occasions (albeit wind assisted) with 3-W ...
    ... when certain techniques of the 3-W are mastered ... you can approach any course with confidence .. (without a driver licence) .. that you cannot guarantee with a driver ..
    .. by shifting dependence away from "driver bombs" (67% of holes) - the natural drift is to better iron play - (100% of holes)...

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  8 лет назад +1

      Confidence is a big part of good golf. If you are having success with your 3 wood off the tee stick with it, especially on tough holes.

    Hi Adam
    I am very inconsistent with my driver, some days on the course i`m lucky if i don`t kill anybody. My tee shots are that bad.
    However when i use my 3 wood off the tee i am so much more accurate and to be honest not much distance loss.
    I hardly use my driver now, there is nothing like that whack sound off the wood club face when you catch it flush.
    love your videos, keep them coming.
    Paul

      paul woolnough I leave the driver at home. I end up slicing it 2 fairways over from the hole I'm playing lol. I just use a wood, which I hit just as far as my driver. Just started golfing this year though.

    Another great video! Very insightful. The only problem I see is that weekend golfers I see have a tendency to pop up 3 woods when hitting them from the tee more frequently than they do drivers. I'm not sure why that is, but it sure seems to happen frequently.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  8 лет назад

      Ben,I know what you mean. I think it's hitting too much down at it and striking the turf. 3 woods are pretty low profile so the ball would likely catch the top edge of the club.Best, Adam

    First off I would like to tell you i really enjoy these short clips. I can tell you first hand they really work. I do have a question...I have been playing a short executive course lately to boos my confidence and to take my practice on the driving range to the course. I am hitting my short irons really well, however, I am skying them, if that makes sense. How do I hit a solid iron tee shot, without losing distance by skying the ball. I can hit a PW 135, but off the tee the ball tends to hang up in the air and land short.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Shawn.
      I'd guess you are either teeing the ball to high, and/or scooping it (adding loft through impact) due to ball being on tee. Try teeing in really low (like a perfect lie without a tee) and squeeze a divot after impact. Hope this helps.
      Best, Adam

    Thankyou for the great content, it is helping me. I'm a solid 3 handicapper, but a massive over the top movement crept into my swing from nowhere and its pushed me out to a 7. do you think the position of the right elbow could make a difference. can you a video on that please.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  8 лет назад

      Bennie,Thanks. Yes the right elbow is key in the downswing. Try a couple of my videos on lag and see if they help a bit, let me know.Best, Adam

    • @mikerodrick2430
      @mikerodrick2430 8 лет назад

      Is the elbow not a big factor when hitting a draw with a driver? Keeping the elbow in helps produce the in to out swing path. In your driver video, I didn't hear that mentioned.

    I use my three metal off the tee ALL THE TIME!! and can match or sometimes out drive other players who are using a driver. Use what your comfortable with. it's better to be 285 yards out and in the fairway then 305 and in the rough.

    I watch a lot of your vids and most are quite clear and consistent with what I see in other PGA sites. However, one point in this one confused me. I have seen other PGA instructors state that the ball position should be in the middle or between a driver and an iron. You mentioned it should be in the back of the stance? but in the video it seems in between a driver and an iron ball position.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the comment. I think if you'll listen to the video again (a little after the 3 minute mark) I say "a little more back...from the normal driver type position" not 'back'
      Hope this helps.

    i thought creating more back spin will let the wind influence the ball more?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  5 лет назад +1

      The difference in this area between a driver and a 3 wood would not be that significant. A mid to lofted iron would have a lot more spin and height.
      All the best, Adam

  • @Zerpersande
    @Zerpersande 3 года назад +1

    If a little bit shorter makes a big difference then do what I did…shorten your driver. I cut my Epic from the factory 45.5” to 44.5”. Loss of distance? Not really significant.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment Bertrand. Even then a driver's reduces loft makes it easier to curve than a 3 wood, but it's still a nice compromise.

    Can I hit a 3 wood off the fairway with a tee or do I have too hit it off the ground?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  6 лет назад

      Jada,
      Once the ball has been struck from the teeing ground you can no longer use a tee. If you are hitting from the tee with your 3 wood (instead of driver) I would recommend teeing it up. You can experiment to see how high you should tee it, but I'd recommend about 1/3 of ball above top edge of clubface at address.
      All the best, Adam

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  7 лет назад

      +Jamie Ward
      Jamie,
      It's closed 'in relation to swing path, not to target line. However, for the average habitual slicer, just shifting things is job 1. Even if the face is closed in relationship to the target and they get too much draw, or a pull draw, it still represents progress.
      I find that with working with golfers make a lot of change then dial back and adjust is the best way to go.
