    This is a best lesson on a fairway wood that I’ve ever seen. Thank you soooooo much for saying where everything went from ball, to club to hands to the shallow swing. Nothing is worse than watching a video and the golfer left one of those steps out. Great great video.

    you made me realize that I was hitting all balls with the same swing, and now I've modified my swing to "sweep" the woods. Real improvement. The key concepts are, "sweet spot, club face, hit down with irons but skip stones with woods."

    I started golf in HS and played for about one season. After which I played about 6 times over a span of 7 years or so. I just started to get back into golf again, and I’ve never been good at using woods or long irons. (I don’t even keep woods in my bag aside from a hybrid 3 that I never use). These videos have given me the knowledge on how to try them out effectively. I can’t wait to try them out on the range and maybe the course next week!

    Thank you. I forget who I listened and was told when hitting a 3 wood put the ball even with the emblem on your shirt, but a woman usually don’t have an emblem on her blouse so I always would line up with my left breast. The problem I have is I top it. A few times I did it like you just showed and hit it more solid. So with watching you I now know I was doing it right by hitting where it feels better for me. Thank you. I’m only 5 foot tall and if I widen my stance it seems like I’m always hitting the ball to the left. When I don’t take a wide stance it goes straighter. Thank you.

    Thank you Adam, yes, .. very helpful tips you have helped me to drive old 1 woods 200 m consistently with your savy set up and preparantion guidance instructions i've followed and added to existing techiniques ! So now i will try to select two highspeed long low loft sweeping clubs one an iron another a wood or hybrid, just to get that second fairway drive onto greens on 400 m plus holes well worth practising but the hybrids seem to have the most boing giving easier distance tho they take an adjusted swing viz a viz the usual drives perhaps !

    This video has made the most dramatic impact on my swing with woods. The advice of how to descend the club to impact the ball at the right angle made a huge difference in not just hitting woods off the ground but my driver too. I was coming way too aggressive at the ball before and this made it so much easier to launch the ball with the least spin as possible.

    Different Lies, sometimes means more loafted club...So now we realize, sometimes to get better result from the lie we in, we might land short of the green, which would be better than trying to force a club selection that does not suit the situation we put ourselves in...So positive thinking kicks in....Because will have better opportunity to get up and down, or pitch inn.....Great Video

    So many of you guys make videos about not topping fairways, but noone seems to make one about duffing them. Perhaps an opportunity Adam?! Im trying everything not to hit the ground, but even my good fairway woods have a divot under the ball(not in front) so too steep. Bad ones start behind ball. Yet trying so hard not to be steep. I enjoy your stuff thanks

    Hey Adam. I found that placing the ball back in my stance instead of too much forward eliminated almost all ball topping. I guess I just naturally hit downward a bit on the ball from that placement and it works out well. I played two 18 hole rounds yesterday and the results with my 3 and 5 woods were excellent. I have the Ping G 400 Woods. 3,5,7 and 9. Good tutorial. Love your content. Best wishes.. Spider Dubiel

    Adam - good as always but you use a hybrid in part of this - does that mean we play a hybrid as per the wood - I don't see a hybrid video on the website yet. - (I have a 3 and 4 iron equivalent hybrid) - thanks

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  8 лет назад

      Paul,Thanks. In thinking about it I used the hybrid because it's a little easier to hit, especially on a partial shot. However, in hindsight I can see where that might create a little confusion. I'd say that basically they are hit like fairway woods, and that you'd deal with the loft/lie the same way you'd do it on a fairway wood.Thanks for your interest. Best, Adam

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  8 лет назад

      Jeannette,
      It's not necessarily bad to take grass (small divots) with fairway woods. If the divots get deep and chunky you are likely coming down on too steep a plane. Try to brush more. I hope this helps a bit.

      Sorry to hear about your back. I'm not a medical expert, so I'd recommend you consult someone who is in general. I would, however advise that you make a sound on plane swing, just make the swing shorter and smoother as you feel is needed. Hope this helps a little.

    One issue I encounter with my fairway wood (currently an older Adams Tight Lies) is that I somehow "pop fly" the ball and it goes 150yds rather than 200+. What is the most likely cause of this? Happens on grass and mats.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  6 лет назад

      Rob,
      The only way to pop fly the ball with that kind of yardage loss is to hit it at the top edge of the clubface. This is unlikely off grass (unless ball is sitting up on top of taller grass), and all but impossible off a mat. My best guess would be a weak slice type of shot that would involve a glancing hit.
      Sorry I can'r be more help.
      All the best, Adam

      Scratch Golf Academy thanks Adam. Appreciate your time as always. I must be striking down on the ball with my swing at times to get it under the ball like that. I'm trying to ingrain the sweeping motion you're teaching!

    My 3 wood will be the death of me. I am now hitting a 2 iron. Hoping your demonstration will give me the confidence to again use my 3 wood. Thank you Patrick Ryan (88 year old golfer)

      I hope I'm lucky enough to be working on my game at that age.

      Kerol,
      I have several fairway wood videos at the channel. Also, a whole course on fairway woods in my Full Swing Master Series DVD & online access instruction.

    It's so easy to understand the theory of golf but the execution is so much more difficult. I broke 90 just one time by one stroke and right now, I feel I'm just not getting any better. Just more lucky. I want to get legitimately better, not luckier.

      It’s certainly not the easiest game there is. Like most skills, it mostly comes down to time on task along with feedback (a predictable answer, I know). One option to consider is www.scratchgolfacademy.com (inexpensive, and you can cancel anytime), as there are complete in depth courses there. You can move along at your own pace.
      Best of luck to you moving forward.
      Thanks, Adam

    I notice that you don't mention the bottom of the swing to determine where the club will strike the ball. Do you find that it is important to know this?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  7 лет назад

      Yes, It's definitely important. On an average top players reach true bottom of swing several inches past the ball. Hope this helps.
      Best, Adam
