I just discovered your channel recently and am thoroughly enjoying your videos. You have a very peaceful way about you. 😊 I also love that your cooking segments are very “real life” without every item already measured/laid out “Food Network-style.” You cook the way a typical home cook does it. Love the little nods to being Canadian with the occasional “hey?” (my dad is Canadian, from London, Ontario). 😊

@@LittleMountainRanch My dad has been in the states long enough (over 60 years) that I don’t really hear that “out/about” difference with him, but it’s definitely a Canadian thing. 😉 I follow a Canadian gentleman on RUclips and hearing his “hey?” always makes me smile too. Thank you again for all your lovely videos!

My mother was a terrible cook. I think she was trying to be frugal and please our 'meat and potatoes' father and had a terrible time. She also felt that every new fangled thing was wonderful, like microwaves and pre-packaged meals. My kids had a lot of digestion issues (my grandson has no vaxx, we are learning) and so I had to learn how to cook. I was so pleased this Christmas when my kids changed their plans last minute and decided to come to my house for dinner instead of breakfast and even with my menu changed as I turned from checking on the food to announce dinner they were all lined up to come into the kitchen! Yeah! I'm a good cook!

The recipes are such a treasure. Don't you think that the most valuable things we should learn is what life was like from our elders? Meals, life, home, work, world, friends, family, childhood, young married life, older life... man I wish I could ask a hundred more questions from my family that is no longer with us. But the things I remember, I treasure!!! We have failed our children by not taking enough time to learn what life was like of the elders.

When we used to tent camp, as a family of 9 kids and my parents, my mom would make the most delicious meals over an open fire, or she buried a couple of Dutch ovens with coals, and let it cook all day, while we hiked.
One of the favorite meals, and one I still like to make for my family, was "German pizza". She would have layers of sliced potatoes, with olive oil, salt n pepper, and pieces of spam (or ham, but spam was traditional), and cheddar cheese. That would cook in an oven or under hot coals, and before eating, she added a couple of dozen eggs she mixed together, with salt and pepper, and poured it over the potato mixture, letting the liquid eggs seep through the potatoes and cook. We always ate it with ketchup or green tomato relish, another family favorite, and a way to use up the many green tomatoes at the end of the growing season. It has bell peppers, clove, cinnamon, etc. There are many great recipes online. It's delicious on scrambled eggs and roast, and can be used on burgers and hotdogs, but we usually stuck to eggs and roasts.
Thanks for sharing your life and recipes with us.

But the worst part was that on the mountain that I live on, the wind blew pretty much nonstop for more than 24 hours at 55-60 mph (90 to 100 kph) which was insane! Then we had a week of 50's and melted off all the snow and ice. Back to normal now.

Didn’t have raspberry jam for the bars but made them with haskap rhubarb jam instead and the boys devoured them, so thank you. Potato hash is so easy and it can be seasoned up any way you want it.
Like to get a bit more brown on my taters though, adds a bit more flavor.
You have a freeze dryer and should make your own bullion cubes, or even freeze them, those will be better than any store bought preservative laden heartburn inducing cubes you can find.
One of the biggest problems pertaining to gastric health is that so many folks eat so much processed food that it eats away at their gut and poisons their entire bodies.
Don't know how it came about that so many folks stopped teaching their younguns how to cook, reckon fast food places had a big hand in it.
I'm very good at mathematics and can't tally up the total number of young ladies that have asked me to teach them how to cook the most basic recipes for themselves and their families, even a few college age boys have asked me to show them simple and cheap dishes that they could handle.
Had one woman that had five younguns that looked about as unhealthy as any younguns I'd ever seen, taught her how to cook up many dishes, and taught her how to use and care for cast iron skillets, within a few months them younguns were looking healthier than I had ever seen them.
Most folks don't know that cooking with cast iron is healthy because it leeches iron in your system and prevents you from having to take supplements, which can cause other problems.
How many younguns do y'all have in your house?

I can't wait for your cookbook to come out. I love the way you cook and I like cooking that way too. I did make that chicken paprikasch and my husband just loved it :)

You showed us your root cellar. I have a suggestion for storing your carrots. I live near Rocky Mountain house in AB. I packed my carrots in plastic storage containers in slightly damp peat moss. My carrots are firm and growing slightly. That may work for you also. Our weather is quite similar.

I have to giggle every time someone whose property is covered in snow says it's "really warm outside". I am in Texas. Below 40 degrees Fahrenheit is terrible. We start bringing out jackets when it gets under 60 degrees. Ha ha We are big babies in the cold.

I smiled as well when Chelsea said it was warm. I live in Brisbane Australia. We get hot, humid summers. Our winter day temperatures rarely go below 15 degrees Celsius and we think it’s 🥶 😅
