Hey coach great vid as always.
I have a question regarding something that covered a couple times very briefly in this video but i have been unable to find a solid balanced answer in the way you do so well.
What is the difference in philosophy between middle of the field open looks and inside of the field closed looks?
I understand the basics behind both looks that the open looks are generally seen out of quarters and cover 2 whereas closed looks are generally out of cover 3 but I can’t find any information as to why why a team would carry one vs the other or both?
All of the scheme breakdown videos make it seem like both game-plans are perfect with adjustments so what makes a team decide which one to use as a base?
I hear some coaches say you need to mix open and closed looks into your game-plan and others say just stick to one and get good at it but how do you know which one is the best for your team?
I guess to sum it up to make it easier to answer in a comment, what are the strengths and weaknesses of middle of the field open, and closed looks and why do you run primarily open looks?
Sorry for the long questions it’s just really been bugging me lately and makes it tough to move beyond man looks
    Thank you

I like run fits better from 2 high personally, i am not the best at fitting runs from 8 man fronts. I close the middle to protect against the route concepts people will use vs Middle Open

Hi Coach Mac! Can you do a video on how you install & practice Quarters Split Field Coverage? Thanks! Coach Flynn Alpharetta, GA.

Sophomores can be good at 1
Juniors can be good at 2
    Seniors 3-4.
That is my 17 years of experience. Some 1 win years and some 10 win years.

Put very young and green LB at the Defensive End position. Then when the offense goes empty or 3x1, have them drop back in zone coverage. They can also guard man to man against a pass catching TE.

Started out as a small college GA after playing. Loved coaching but didn’t see a path to higher position college jobs so i moved to Florida to coach football and never left

Do you still run some 425 with a field side nickel or are you guys running strictly 3 high?
