That tango in The scent of a woman is way above every other one in the list, not from the point of the dance techniques, but the imagination of such a scene, the unparalleled acting and how that part plays into the whole plot. Hands down movie history apogee.
We didn't actually see much of Antonio dancing, mostly twirling the partner, ultra short shots making a few steps and very suggestive posture, all together with his gorgeous self just drop dead mesmerizing
If Antonio Banderas asked me to dance with him, my answer wouldn't be "Yes." It would be "Oh, Hell yes!" As far as "True Lies," is concerned, I prefer the tango at the end.
I’d reorder the final three. To me Tango de Roxanne is THE most amazing tango scene in cinema because it is arguably one of the best filmed/edited scenes EVER of any kind in cinema. And the choreography is top notch story telling on top of be gorgeous and sensual. Cell Block would be number two - and then Take the Lead would be fine in the number 3 position.
That was a fantastic video! Cell Block Tango from Chicago has always been my favorite. And, yes, if Antonio Banderas asked me to tango, I'd say yes even if it did put me in traction for weeks afterward! haha
I'm glad that "True Lies" got an honorable mention, though the Tango dance scene included here is great, I like the ending Tango dance scene the most. I also like the scenes from "Scent of a Woman", "Shall We Dance", and "Take the Lead".
Antonio Banderas is definitely one of the best dancers between actors. His moves are professional and emotional, he goes in sync with his partner and kills it. Perfect combination 👌 Jennifer Lopez is definitely a better dancer than an actress, so her role in "Shall We Dance?" was nailed perfectly 👌 Noticed her leading role in dance with Gere and loved it 👍
Astaire and Rogers really should be in the top five if not number one. There aren’t two dancers in any of these other films that were close to their skills, style, class, or connection.
I assumed "Waltz for Eva and Che" wouldn't make the list because it's a waltz not a tango so that was a pleasant surprise. I've loved that scene since I was 12 years old. The shifting to different locations and the chemistry between Madonna and Banderas is amazing.
It's a Viennese Waltz! There are a few steps of Tango in the beginning, and each of them makes a not so thinly veiled threat of violence to each other. Then they take wing and fly around the dance floor! It's also just a basic Viennese Waltz step called an advanced left turn, which is the second step that you learn in the Viennese Waltz. Then instead of smashing into each other, she just sinks to the floor and he fades into the darkness. You get the sense of both of their disappointment in this prosaic end to a meteoric rise.
These Movies with the Best Tango Dance Scenes are all Super Incredible, Remarkable, Amazing, Spectacular, Fantabulous and Stylish! My Pen Pal from Spain, back in Middle School in New Jersey, taught me, my Family and my Friends everything about the Legendary Salsa Dancing of Tango! 💃🎶🎵🎼🎹🎺
Love all the musical/dance numbers from Chicago, Cell Block Tango is terrific Now I will have to go find my absolute favorite number in the movie, We Both Reached For the Gun--very clever.
But they're not dancing Vals, they're dancing Waltz. Vals is much faster and rarely danced on all three beats-- typically just on the downbeat, or 1+2, or 1+3-- for improv syncopation to illustrate the music.
Not a tango, but my favorite Latin musical dance number is the Paso Doble performed near the end of "Strictly Ballroom" All the sensuality of the tango, but a little different.
As an actual Argentine tango dancer, here is my opinions on the clips. Scenes with actual Argentine Tango (AT): 17 - The Tango Lesson: I don't like the dancing (personally). It feels a bit stiff and too...choreographed but the dancing is actual AT. 12 - Tango Libre: I liked this scene. You could see all the masculinity that could come when two men dance together. It feels like a fight. 10 - Love and Dance: I liked the photo direction, the look and the dancing in general, even though it feels a little still and overly stylized . 4 - Tango; With Miguel Ángel Solá and Mía Maestro. They were maestros when the film was made. By today standards, their dancing is a bit dated but it's still good tango. HM - Assassination Tango; Robert Duvall and Luciana Pedraza did a great job. Their tango feels natural and we would expect from actual AT dancers. If you would take a video of me, I dance like that. Scenes that get a pass: 18 - Easy Virtue (it's okay as AT) 2 - Take the Lead (Same, overly stylized and an okay AT) All the rest of the scenes are not even close to what Argentinian Tango really is, even though some have tango music in them. Some are a mishmash of ballroom tango and other ballroom dances like paso doble or really bad dancing all diluted with what Hollywood thinks AT is. More movies with actual AT scenes: "The Two Popes", the milonga scene were the young Bergoglio goes out dancing. "Upside Down", the two cafe scenes (the one with 'El Ultimo Cafe sang by Goyeneche...Love this song!"). Also, I know the background dancers in this movie, they are my friends and dance partners.
Hello Anne As an argentinian Tango dancer and teacher, Let me answer to some of your good explanation 1 Tango of Saura: Miguel Angel Sola & Mia Maestro were not Tango maestros, but actors, the scene of the video was with the great dance Copes 2 I can't believe you said "An ok AT" to Take the lead and you don't like the dancing of Pablo Veron in Tango lesson. Opinion for opinion, of course. Good Milongas!
Yeah, it's a little weird to see Pablo Veron so far down on that list, when most of the list definitely isn't actual tango (ie "ballroom tango" isn't lead/follow, it's just pattern recognition or choreography-- I used to teach it, and lost interest when I realized how complicated, spontaneous, and musical real tango could be!)
@@Betan.1969 Yeah, you’re right, the dancer was Copes. My mistake! I don’t like Pablo Veron. Both his dancing and as a person (I’ve met him a couple of times). But that’s my personal preference. I still recognize he’s a good dancer.
@@anne12876 Of course . I 've met him in person too. I didn't have a bad sensation with him ... Sometimes it's easy to give a wrong impresion if we don't know somebody. For me it's sensational... one of my 3 favourite tango dancers of all times
If no one else is gonna say it then I will, the three person tango in Take The Lead is way more superior than the Detention Tango. That three-person tango was iconic as hell. That was dancing. Even Morgan had to admit it. She gave them credit so much to the point where she said let's call it a tie. The Broken Tango from Step Up 3D only got an honorable mention. Nah that's just messed up and wrong on so many levels.
@@webbec It was iconic. Morgan couldn't stop watching. She was shook and this someone who has done ballroom dancing for years. She is a seasoned veteran.
Solid! Best tango ever! I have watched this movie 10 times...love both scenes but seriously the choreography on the 3hree characters was the best ever.
Absolutely. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t included. And Cell Block Tango was a tango in beat but not in dance except for a few spots. The Take the Lead 3 person tango was a masterwork in concept, choreography, and performance.
The real Pierre Dulaine (Banderas’ character) appears as a judge near the end of Take the Lead. A magic film that prompted me to return to learn how to really lead.
Maybe the "Chicago" Tango is the best and the most incredible, but in my opinion, the most beautiful and graceful on the list is the one done by Ginger and Fred couple; and the most touching is "Tangoing Blind" by Al Pacino. "La Cumbresita Tango" listed seems to be the most authentic one, I suppose.
Por Una Cabeza (in both Scent of a Woman & True Lies) is just as legit as La Cumparsita. And Santa Maria by Gotan Project (in Shall We Dance clip) is pretty classic nuevo tango...

I also love the tango scenes in "Love and other disasters" you can't tango if your drunk! and "Lost in Paris" how many people can tango in sneakers? Shame they weren't included or given honorable mentions.
This video reminds of a scene in the Robert Heinlein novel “The Number of the Beast” in which two characters meet at an event and dance a tango. At the end of the dance, the man comments that they really should be required to get married after a dance that intimate. The woman accepts the apparent proposal and the man doesn’t back down even though it was clearly a joking comment. The novel takes off from there.
Amazing how many times we saw Antonio Banderas and Raul Julia! And wasn’t the guy singing “Roxanne” the same one as the dancer in the Polish movie too?
Not a big fan of Mojo listicles, but i'll play. No. 10 has to be my favorite, closely followed by No. 20. Easy Virtue, that’s my favorite
Yes! You included Scent of a Woman! That dance is so good and beautiful. Al Pacino did a great job and won the Oscar for it.
Nothing to say about Al Pacino or the movie ... but I don't like european Tango . Argentinian Tango World be out of his possibilities
Yes, he nailed it 👏 Didn't know that he can dance 😏
Antonio Bandaris really performed quite astounding. His physique was perfect for the tango...
Madonna was pregnant in that scene.
Banderas smolders - which is the entire point of the tango.
I heard that his first profession was a dancer, so it's no wonder
Of course "Cell Block Tango" is #1. The dancing is incredible, (especially from Catherine Zeta-Jones,) and it's just so catchy.
She was also pregnant at the time!

To bad _"He had it coming"_ isn't a good defense. Don't ask how I know.

Antonio Banderas in Shall We Dance is my favorite. I love the kids expressions during the dance
The movie is called Take the Lead. ;)
Shall we dance: Richard Gere.
If Antonio Banderas asked me to dance with him, my answer wouldn't be "Yes." It would be "Oh, Hell yes!"
As far as "True Lies," is concerned, I prefer the tango at the end.
Totally agree that cell block tango from Chicago the movie is #1. Love it, love it, love it. What a bunch of kicka** women!
It doesn't look like tango to me, but like some us exageration "art"
Tango de Roxanne. The Argentinian’s voice is amazing
Wow. How on earth did you find The Tango Lesson? I have searched for years and have not found a copy. that alone marks a genuine joy. Kudos to you.
Yes, this one is the best!
Ginger Rogers sheer black dress is to die for.
I’d reorder the final three. To me Tango de Roxanne is THE most amazing tango scene in cinema because it is arguably one of the best filmed/edited scenes EVER of any kind in cinema. Shall we dance has to be my favourite because of the music and cell block tango, it's a great film and even better stage show 😊
I forgot how fantastic Jennifer Lopez and Madonna could be in dancing! Great video!
What dance are you talking about
@@pamelaparsons9046 Argentine Tango in Shall We Dance (Jennifer Lopez) and Swing in A League of Their Own (Madonna)

Astaire and Rogers really should be in the top five if not number one. There aren’t two dancers in any of these other films that were close to their skills, style, class, or connection.
Totally agree about Cell Block Tango! so fierce!
My mom didn't like Moulen Rouge, when I took her to see it, but she loved the tango. She was really amazed at the group tango in the climax of it.
Wow - this narrator managed to squeeze every bit of sensuality fron every single tango - her voice could peel paint off an outhouse wall.

Mr. & Mrs Smith, Scent of a Woman, True Lies - All good movies. If there were TV shows we'd have to have Chuck!
I love Antonio Banderas in the school detention scene and Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. Oh how I would love to tango with them xx if only!
The Tango Shalom gets my honorable mention - a Tango with a Balloon to obey religious rules. Very creative!!
Love the LiberTango - compare Pablo Veron to Colin Firth in Unlikely Partners and you find you cannot take your eyes off Veron.
The reason the Evita tango is unusual is that it isn't a tango. That's a waltz!
