I tried my friends orange 35rt and after an hour I switched it off and went out to buy one for myself. Its sounds amazing to me and I used to be a tube only snob.
Peavey for the cleans and orange for the distortion but to me the peavey had alot more clarity and crispy, punchy bite than the orange. This was a good demo. Thank you
I think it’s all about taste. I have seen albums totally recorded digitally but live the band uses tube amps. And the other way around. With all the good digital amps, modeling software, etc. I don’t see a problem with any of them. It’s all about building a tone that is your and having a great time with it.
well said.... i hate when people act like only tube amps sound good. Today's SS amps are nothing like the little Gorilla amp i had back in the day. You just have to learn how to set the amp up for optimal sound.... just tilting an amp up 2 -3 inches changes what you hear.
I’ve got the 35rt and I like it over the bandit myself. I may be one of the few who really like Orange clean channel. I like to run my BD2 into the clean for some nice crunchy blues.
@Dan Pugatch for me the BD2 when dialed in adds the right amount of crunch for blues on the clean channel. I can then use my vol on the guitar to dig in a bit deeper for extra bite.
I think the Crush series has the best clean sound of any SS amp I've heard, outside of a Quilter. Very alive and, without that muffled sound most modeling amps have. The only ones that sound that open & alive to me are Peavey's Trans-Tube amps, but I just like the sound of the Crush better. I don't even like the Crush gain channel for some reason! But the cleans I love.
No dude, totally with you. The clean tones on the 35 are absolutely immaculate. It’s an absolutely fantastic pedal platform as well. If anything, sometimes I feel like I have a harder time getting into the dirty channel. There’s definitely a time and a place for that beautifully slightly out of control orange sound, but I have to say after this video, I’m thinking about picking up one of those Peavey studio pro 112s. Really love the high gain on it.
I've got the Orange Crush 20RT. It's enough for what I do right now, though I'm thinking about getting a 35RT. I've always used solid state amps. I truly get the appeal and superiority of tube amps, but the solid state amps I've used in the past have held up well to the tube amp the second guitarist of whatever band I was in was using. Had a Crate mini stack that I absolutely loved (and wish I still had) and a full stack in the 90s. Great amps! But anything Orange releases seems to just be absolutely awesome.
I own the orange 35rt and it’s insanely great sounding with out any pedals!!!! The key is to crank the mid range on the eq... weather it’s a strat with vintage output pickups or a higher output humbucker it’s always sounds amazing without any further tweaking between guitars!!!
The Peavey sounded more open, most likely due the different speaker & cab size. The Orange sounded great for a 10" equipped amp... the drive had some definite fuzz characteristics when cranked, which would be perfect for the stoner rock-doom crowd, with whom Orange gear is wildly popular(and of which I am a proud member).
Right here with your brother. 🤘🏻🛸🤘🏻 I honestly love both the orange and the PV. I own the Krush 35 RT, and I love it. The clean tones are immaculate, it’s an amazing pedal platform, and I dig the high gain tones as well, but sometimes I find I’m not always looking for that slightly out of control super dense orange tone. It definitely has a lot of sizzle to it. I dig it, just not for everything. This Peavey might be the answer to that question though. Both great amplifiers. But yes. The high gain on the crush definitely verges on calling fourth the master caterpillar. I will also say though, that for whatever reason the orange in this video sounds very muffled in terms of clean tone. Great video, but this is definitely not an accurate representation of what the cleans sound like on the crush.
@@SKY_DWELLER333 you might dig my original music. It's in my videos, but you'd have to go back aways, been 4 years since my last song, one called "Azoth". Or just search Goetic Circle - "Keeping the Devil Captive" for what I think is my best song. Let me know what you think! 🤘😊🤘
Shane, try tuning your low E string while fretting the 3rd fret (G note) and the A string while fretting the 3rd (C note). It sounds a lot better than tuning them open imo. You might like it better too.
Totally thought I was being dick thinking it as out of tune I know you are saying to try tunning type but it seems like the guitar is out of turn period
I've been a Peavey man all my life but I've just recently bought the Orange Crush Mini and also, the Orange Crush 20RT. I love all of my Peavey amps still. I also like the Orange amplifiers as. They are versatile. What I have noticed, at home with my own set up and in your video, is the Orange almost sound "Blown" if you will. I'm playing my Epiphone Les Paul in the bridge position. I have thought that my Les Paul has a muddy sound and that's the reason I tried the orange amplifiers out. Your thoughts?
The Orange is a neat amp, compact, nice clean tones and really great for home use but in a jam session or small band situation the Peavey has the guts and muscle needed. The Peavey 112 range really shines here, I keep telling myself I should get one. How do either of these amps take pedals (I've heard that Peavey Bandit does well)? Thanks for the comparison demo.
I own the Peavey bandit 112 and I own the orange CR60 112 as well and both take pedals very well I also own the orange CR120 as well. I love both Peavey and orange and it is always hard for me to decide which one I want to use but Orange amps truly have there own sound but the Peavey sound amazing and I think the clean channel on the peavey is just a little better in my opinion but I hav zero issues gigging both amps and I switch back and forth a lot.
Shane, your some boy. I just got the peavey studio pro 112 because of one of your other videos. I thought I wonder how it will compare to the orange crush 35RT then here you are again supplying the goods!
Hi Shane. I purchased the Orange 35RT a few months ago and mine sounds nothing like the one in the Video. Mine has more Mids and Highs along with good Bottom End. The thing I notice most is that it would sound better with a 12" Speaker in it. You can really tell it's a 10". Has more Mid than any of my 12" Combos.
I owned a Peavey Vypr VIP 3 with Sanpera II that I sold back to Sam Ash for $75. It was incredibly counterintuitive. I want a Orange Crush 35RT. Seems simple and reliable.
WOW, I did a comment on this video a year ago and forgot about it. Glad I listened to it again Shane because I was looking at a Crush 35RT just a few days ago and thanks to this video it stopped me from buying another "mistake". The cleans are nice BUT as soon as you add Gain it is very easy to hear the difference between a 10" speaker over a 12". I still like the Peavey much better :)
I’m a fan of both brands when it comes to analog solid state amps. I believe it just comes down to a players choice of what music styles they play. I prefer the Orange, because I play mostly modern blues and classic hard rock to early metal. If your style covers mostly clean to slight breakup, then the Peavey might be the way to go. Both amps are great within their respective voicings. Both are built like tanks and are probably as dependable as you could purchase. Great review!
I have both brands and love them for different reasons. The Peavey seems to favor humbuckers while the Orange seem more organic with single coils to my ears.
I have the 35RT, and can confirm what u both said😂 the dirt channel is so polluted, just the way I like it.....not to even mention when I put one of my overdrives in front of it... there’s just no other competition in the combo world
both sounded good at times, I prefer the Peavey overall. A conformation for me as I just bought the peavey because of your other video. the other video helped me with the settings I can use and for that I truly thank you.
I would actually encourage you to try one of these oranges in real life. This video does not accurately represent its clean tones. I promise you. I was wondering if he was possibly using different mics? But the cleans on that orange sound way too muffled. Trust me. I own one. The clean tones on the crush are absolutely ridiculous, and it’s a great pedal platform.
Clean tones, I liked them both, but Peavey may have the edge as it's a bit clearer. Was the treble lower on the Orange? The lower gain settings on the Orange seemed better behaved and probably more usable. It's always easier to tell how dirt would be if you're actually playing it - you know your attack and how you're playing. I like the sheer character of the Orange. But the higher gain on the Peavey is more usable. So, in all, I'm going to begrudgingly vote for the Peavey. By the way ,great playing and fun video!
I think the Peavey sounded more HI-FI geared having crispier tones, while the Orange is clearly built having a mid boost which makes it sound creamier. They're both great amps. If I played cleans and/or 80s metal/rock type music I'd get the Peavey hands down. If I played blues and classic rock then the Orange would be the clear winner. I'd like to see a Peavey Express go up against the Studio Pro. Great demo Shane!
Hey Shane! Great job on the comparison. I'm wondering if you've had the chance to check out the Peavey Envoy? It's the 1x10 version of the Bandit. I got it a little after I got my bandit for very little money and found that it retained that great peavey sound (especially in the clean channel) without being too loud.
That was earsplitting fun! I think the versatility of the Peavy would cut through the low, dark floor of the Orange; ideally, run both but if I had to choose, that Peavy is my all-purpose stalwart.
I really want to like the Orange stuff, but nearly every review makes it sound muffled, or like there's a blanket in front of it....I'm assuming that can be eq'd out....but still....(or maybe it's just me)
The Orange is a little midrange heavy but I think you could have evened it up with some knob fiddling and maybe a touch of reverb would have helped as well. I liked the or-15 so much I sold all my other amps for it and a 2x12 cb cab.
I have an Orange 20rt and a Peavy rage 158. I prefer the Orange, because the peavy needs to be turned up a bit to get it to sound good and the orange sounds the same on every volume level. Just my opinion.
I have a 20RT (20 watts, 8 inch speaker)...great clean channel tone with the tone knobs and volume dimed out using the guitar volume and tone knobs (strat) to adjust things. However, the "dirty" channel should be called the "nasty" channel. I can't imagine how it could be useful. This is a GREAT amp if you want a clean sound. The digital reverb is fairly good, the on board tuner is pretty good too. The sound quality of this amp when run clean is definitely gig worthy if a whole lot of volume isn't required. Everyday price: $189. Fantastic value, IMO.
I prefer the *Peavey* all the way. More pleasant, warm, natural and definition in its sound. *Orange* sounds too "fuzzy" and a bit digital for my taste.
I have quite a collection of amps from Tubes (Trace Elliot Bonneville), solid state (Peavey Blazer 158, Marshall MG30FX , Ibanez etc.), hybrids (VOX VT15E, VOX VT30), moddeling amps( Behringer V-ampire LX110, Line6 Spider IV 75 Watt). In general no matter what amp-type the speaker and cabinet size make a lot of difference. Maybe that explains the more open tone of the Bandit. The orange had a great sweet and mellow sound clean but it sounded a bit boxed in. I am curious how it would sound plugged into the speaker of the Studio. As it is stands now I wouild go for the Peavey Studio but both are great amps. I picked up a Peavey Bandit 112 red stripe yesterday as well as a Peavey Transformer 212 red stripe at a steal.
I’m a Peavey guy , I’ve always liked there sounds on both channels. I’ve played a Orange before and I’ll take the Peavey. I just got be a Peavey 112 , it’s suppose to be here today . I also have. Valve King 212 .
I Heard more organic The Orange RT, even with punch of distortion sounds too warm and loud. Peavey Bandit sounds nice on clean tones but a little bit digital in overdrive and distorted tones. The good thing is that preserves that "american sound" of eighties rock bands. Regards from México!
I Like both on their own - really depends on what tone - music your after , i always prefer 12 inch over 10 inch speakers .My experience with Orange amps ; they have "compressed" organic - soft cleans and "British" overdrive - gain sound that fits best with P90 - single coil pickup guitars . The peavey sounds more "American" - maybe "fendery" to me - and thanks for the 12 inch speaker and larger cab size it has a much fuller tone . The Orange with 10 inch speaker is a great practice amp for home use .
Can you get good drive tones with the 35rt without having to crank the volume up? I've had the 20 and unless I bring the volume up it sounds shrill. I wonder if 35rt also has the same problem
Definitely liked the Orange tones and textures better. The high gain setting on the Orange sounds just like other Orange amps at high gain. The Peavey sounded its best at high gain I thought, somewhat Boogie-like.
Love your videos. How does the orange compare against a Marshall Mg30, or a Blues Jr? If the blues jr is comparing apples to oranges (no pun intended) can you show why one is better.
This strikes me a bit as a mismatched comparison. A more reasonable shoot-out would've been to put the Peavey up against the Orange CR60C. Then you'd have two 1x12 amps of almost identical power - 65 and 60 Watts respectively. That would make for a much more balanced comparison, IMHO.
All good, bud. I don't expect you to have EVERY amp under your roof. :) Again though, I suspect the CR60 vs Studio Pro would be the closest like-for-like test, given the greater power range of the bandit.
The bandit sounded better over my computer speakers, but I suspect some eq could fix that. It was just a little dark or bassy ro me. Both sounded great, and I'm planning on getting a 60 watt 1 x 12 orange to gig with I think!
Now try the Orange CR60c. Amazing clean channel (for an Orange) and the full bore Orange sound on the dirty channel. You either like the Orange driven sound or you don't. I have a CR60 to go with my Katana 50 and Vox AV60 because it makes THAT sound.
Clayton Duguay - interesting. I played the 60 several times recently and decided I didn’t like the clean channel but loved the dirty. I really wanted to buy the amp because it had all the features I needed, but I just couldn’t get past the clean. It’s all about taste I suppose :)
Matt Matt it can take some time to figure out how to eq this amp to get the sound you want. The cr 60c is great with humbuckers on either channel. If you need a little more tone shaping options get an eq pedal.
Kevin R Stuart I think the cr 120c sounds slightly better. Slightly fuller sounding, a little more low end, and the eq controls have more tonal capabilities.
Peavey comes across in the video as being more "live" - and is sure to cut through a mix in a band setting if you are playing lead. The Orange would be a good rhythm guitar amp.
For me the orange was better at the British rock sound. For clean and metal, high gain the Peavy just was in a different league. The orange sounds muffled and the British sound coarse but good. The Peavy can't do that breakup sound. But otherwise it's clarity and tighter. Maybe a tad harsh on the bright on clean. Very different amps and suit different players. I don't like the sound of orange amps personally but I do like what they are trying to do. Kudos to them for that.
Absolutely. It has plenty of volume, especially if you are miking amps anyway. The Orange is a GREAT pedal platform. It's small, light, economical, and a terrific alternative to carrying around heavy tube amps. Tech 21 Fly Rig goes perfectly with this small package.
Hi Shane, I watched this video because I'm considering the Orange Super Crush 100. The Peavey XXL Combo is also still available, which I'm also considering. In this video the Orange ate the Peavey alive I.M.H.O. As a Bandit owner, I was very surprised. BTW the XXL Combo is $100 less expensive new than the Orange Super Crush. I'll need to do more comparisons before I make a decision though. Cheers Shane!
Sounds awesome Shane. I love Orange, but I gotta give this one to the Peavey. People scoff at SS amps, but I have a vintage Marshall lead 15 mini stack that sounds amazing in a recording mix. It's definitely more of a "feel" thing than anything else. Transistors and FETs are more than capable of some sweet tones when used properly, and any unnecessary "fizz" can be dialed out if you know what you are doing with a parametric EQ. Great vid man! Stay Gold!
Can't beat the Peavey red stripe amps. I have two Bandits and use them in stereo. I'm thinking about getting one of these Orange 35 rt's for a next to the couch amp. One locally for great price
I prefer the peavey on heavy gain. The orange gets way to fuzzy. The bass gets washed out. Both are great amps but would take the peavey. I’ve got both orange and peavey tube amps.
Interesting comparison man...I have to admit the Orange really is a little beast! It’s really a toss up for me. For hard rock, I liked the Orange a lot, but for clean and overall Rock n Blues, I’d have to stick with the Peavey...more bang for your buck.
My Peavey Bandit sounded good at bedroom levels. But when I needed it to really crank in a hot trio live it crapped out on me and lost all tone. Can't say about the Orange but most solid state amps really sound worse the louder you run them. Unless you run tons of on board soild state distortion buy that's not where I'm at.
I found the Orange to be muffled and not full like the Peavey. They Studio Pro seemed to be much brighter with more highs and miss. I prefer the Studio Pro but the Orange has a really nice distortion.
Hi Shane. Keep those videos coming.. I like when at the end you add a couple subjective comments.. in this vid the Peavey sounded better to me. The Orange did have a sweet spot in its 2nd to last gain clip. Jmho
Thank you

The Peavey has that Marshall tone & Orange well it's Orange more woolly great video. ..
Peavey had a bit more bass and presence to it. Man, I now want one of those studio 112.
Peavey for me in this shootout. The orange sounded like it was full of pulp. :P :)

Josh Turpin right. I play orange exclusively.
both sounded good at times, I prefer the Peavey overall. A conformation for me as I just bought the peavey because of your other video. the other video helped me with the settings I can use and for that I truly thank you.
Orange sounds much better in person and is my favorite smaller sized amp
Peavey clean won me over. The cleans on the peavey are so much brighter than the orange.

@@SKY_DWELLER333 Agreed! I feel he didn't tweak the EQ nobs
cool comparision. I replaced the stock speaker in my Orange Crush 35rt with an Eminence Delta 10A. It screams.
I liked the Peavey’s cleans way better. I’m not in love with either with the gain cranked, but I liked the Peavey over the Orange.

Agree. Its a little more muffled, or soft, or whatever. I like that actually. But I also like definition, so I don't know.

Peavey sounded to me when it came to the clean channel, but the Orange sounded better to me in the dirty channel.
Those Peavey cleans were magnificent 😢 as were the vintage drive tones. I'm sold on the Peavey. ..
It just had that bite and clarity.
Pretty close... maybe the Orange is a bit juicier in the overdrive, and peavey a bit better cleans..
Great video Man! Old school vs New School
Can you get good drive tones with the 35rt without having to crank the volume up? I've had the 20 and unless I bring the volume up it sounds shrill. I wonder if 35rt also has the same problem
I prefer the Peavey for the cleans and Orange for dirt. Awesome PRS by the way!!❤️
it sounds like the orange needs its speaker to be broken in.
At the end of the day it s all about personal taste, but for me Orange all the way.
I really like the orange like as a practice amp
I like the sound of the orange amp, is it recommended to play with a band?
Yes
Peavey by a long way! was it just me or was it out of tune when you were playing clean? could've been me! i'm burnt out lol
How does the 35RT compare to a Micro Terror with a 10 inch cab?
Is the orange 35rt good for gigging.....
Let's say in a school auditorium?
The Orange is warmer and responds like a tube amp. The Peavey sounds like a pedal - definitely not touch sensitive.
Shane .. I listen to ... almost .. all of yout comments... but definetly ...all.. of your playing ! 😎🎸
Thanks man!
Nice video Shane! How much Clean Headroom does the 35RT have? It sounded a lot darker than the 112. Thanks Shane very nice work!!
The orange sounds great, I like the clean channel, but I like the Peavey
Cool stuff! One thing....the Orange 'voice of the world' speaker needs to be broken in. It doesn't happen overnight, but once it is...oh yeah!
Hello! Whats the first tune you were playing at the begging with the peavey? Thank you so much!
Julia Ponce de Leon People Get Ready, by the legendary Curtis Mayfield
This strikes me a bit as a mismatched comparison. A more reasonable shoot-out would've been to put the Peavey up against the Orange CR60C. Then you'd have two 1x12 amps of almost identical power - 65 and 60 Watts respectively. That would make for a much more balanced comparison, IMHO.
It's all I had on hand mate. I'll try grab that next time and put it up against the bandit. :-)
All good, bud. I don't expect you to have EVERY amp under your roof. :) Again though, I suspect the CR60 vs Studio Pro would be the closest like-for-like test, given the greater power range of the bandit.
Totally agree with you.
The Peavey sounded clearer to me, but both sounded good to me.
Do you have a floating bar on that PRS ? If so, how do you set it up ? Great video Shane. Blues On....
If you want to get both clean and dirt from your amp, having 3 band eq on each channel is a must!
Orange sounds better to my ears, Peavey sounds bright b& brittle, Orange sounds warmer , more natural sounding
Old Peavey ran laps around the orange but I can see the Orange being useful for what Oranges are meant for. Stoner Doom metal stuff
I have the cr60 too - Great amp! , swapped the speaker with a Vintage 30 - improved tone and Dynamics - sounds amazing ! .
I would like to try the 60 myself to see if it's better than the 120.
The Orange would be a good rhythm guitar amp.
both sound reallly great in their own specific special ways.
Peavey for cleans, as it is clearer. However I think that I would choose the orange for dirt as the peavey is kind of fizzy sounding to me at least.
That Orange Crush sounds like a dream to me! 😍😍😍
Throw a tube screamer in front of it it's delicious!
Nice John Mayer licks btw
Can you gig with this in a small - medium
Sized venue with a 4 piece?
Absolutely. It has plenty of volume, especially if you are miking amps anyway. The Orange is a GREAT pedal platform. It's small, light, economical, and a terrific alternative to carrying around heavy tube amps. Tech 21 Fly Rig goes perfectly with this small package.
Hi Shane,
I watched this video because I'm considering the Orange Super Crush 100.
Cant find such a model...Studio pro?
Sounds awesome Shane. I love Orange, but I gotta give this one to the Peavey. People scoff at SS amps, but I have a vintage Marshall lead 15 mini stack that sounds amazing in a recording mix. It's definitely more of a "feel" thing than anything else. Transistors and FETs are more than capable of some sweet tones when used properly, and any unnecessary "fizz" can be dialed out if you know what you are doing with a parametric EQ.
Great vid man!
Stay Gold!
Yep, get an EQ and knock off anything in the 5k range. Goodbye fizz!
I just run the Orange head into Peavey valve King 50 and have the best of both worlds ! You could try it and see if it works for you too 😉
Can't beat the Peavey red stripe amps. I have two Bandits and use them in stereo. I'm thinking about getting one of these Orange 35 rt's for a next to the couch amp. One locally for great price
Both sound great. A ts909 tightens up the orange
Think the peavy sounded better or my speakers are bad lol
The Peavy is a bit Harsh, to my Ear. I like the Warmer TONE/FEEL that comes thru the Orange.
Sterling McVay the Chinese-made Peavys are horrible compared to US-made ones.
Jay LaFrance is there a way to tell the difference?
No articulation on the Orange. Too much emphasis on high mids and treble on the Studio Pro.
I found the Orange to be muffled and not full like the Peavey. They Studio Pro seemed to be much brighter with more highs and miss. I prefer the Studio Pro but the Orange has a really nice distortion.
I really liked the Peavy on clean vintage. On the other modes the orange was better.
Shane you've got My Lefty PRS? How'd you get that? No, but Man, do I WANT one!!!
I prefer Peavey, but it is not fair comparison. Anyway I think that major difference is power amp stage.
Hi Shane. Keep those videos coming.. I like when at the end you add a couple subjective comments.. in this vid the Peavey sounded better to me. The Orange did have a sweet spot in its 2nd to last gain clip. Jmho
I have to go with the Peavey. Over my speakers, it just had a bigger, fuller sound. The 12 inch speaker maybe ?
Great demo Shane,as always, now Orange cr 60 vs Peavey bandit 112! lol
