    Roth seems to have been the hold out for the original tribute, not Alex. Sammy was never considered for the tribute by anyone in the band. This comes from details revealed in a few interviews with Wolfgang, so I believe it.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  Месяц назад +2

      Alex was most definitely the hold old, even David Lee Roth has said so. And I love how people refer to interviews with Wolfgang when he wasn’t even a part of it. Let’s stick to the people who were there. Satriani also said it was solely up to Alex. There was a proposal put forward to have both Sammy and Dave sing which Dave was against. But that was different.

      @@BrendonSnyder Alex and Wolfgang (who was in the band for a decade or so) dislike Sammy with a passion and were not talking to him about this at all. It goes back to the book Sammy did, which they never forgave him for. Ed seemed to at the very end, but no one else. Dave has been the hold up all along. Alex is the hold up for the box set, the documentary, and other things, but Dave was the primary hold up for this thing. I wrote a book about the band so I have verified this through my sources as well.

      @@BrendonSnyder Hey, you and Wolfie got me back into CDs (see my previous comments), so I'm loving this rabbit hole and I hope it isn't too much of a distraction.
      Alex is the reason the new box set has no new material. The label has no access to 5150, so only Alex can release that stuff. Wolf and Matt Bruck inherited the EVH brand. Alex inherited Ed's rights to the music at 5150.
      But as far as the tribute goes, here's one public quote that I think is pretty close to the truth:
      Wolf (07-17-2022): “We [he clarifies ‘we’ is himself and Alex later in the interview] made an attempt, and some people can be hard to work with, and made it not happen.”
      After that, Dave refused to renew streaming rights to the last two VH albums, and just recently went after Wolf on his podcast with two episodes of insults. We'll see what Al says in his new book.

      I’d love to go to those things types of big events but there are two factors; my full time job and money. Local concerts are another thing. And yes I’d like to film some of those as experience videos but there are issues with copyrights to the music and some places have really cracked down on filming at all. I’ve done some of these types of videos 4 years back and have mixed experience with them. But it’s on my radar.

    I just think there is way too much drama in the Van Halen camp from the lineup changes, none of the changes they ever made were "smooth" it was always a Soap Opera, even poor Gary Cherone got caught in that mess too. I think what Sammy is doing now is the closest thing that will ever happen, I think there is a some kind of "politics" with calling it a tribute under Eddies name I have a feeling their may be a license deal or something which would NOT surprise me , this happened to A Prince side project band twice one called the "Family" and another called "The Time" and neither is allowed to go out and play under that name, in the TIME's case they can only play shows under Morris Day and the Time. SO Honestly I think Van Halen is done at this point obviously I wouldn't be surprised if we never get unreleased stuff ever from them. I have heard everyone blame either Alex or David for any kind of hold up, Michael does not seem to care and neither does Sammy, but the issue is those two for sure.

    I’m not a fan of live albums either. Some are good but most are not that great. Live concert is way better in person or experienced at least with a visual. I get bored easily just listening to an audio of a live concert. I think also some genre such as jazz or blues are a better fit to this format. So many live stuff coming out nowadays.

    I liked Jovi's key-heavy AOR/melodic rock material from the first two albums, but not the glam tracks (tired of hearing Runaway.) She Don't Know Me (originally penned and recorded by Donnie Iris And The Cruisers keyboardist Marc Avsec) and Only Lonely are two underrated AOR/melodic rock power ballads that don't get enough love or airplay. The hits from Slippery get played way too much on the radio to the point where I'm tired of hearing them, and I can dig only two or three other deeper tracks from the album, but not Never Say Goodbye (never liked that sappy power ballad.) New Jersey is an acquired taste where I kind of lost interest in the band. Too much glam for my taste.

    So I guess that late 90s/Y2K-era nu metal band Eve 6 is supposedly coming out with a new album. I mean why bother putting out new music? They should have stopped after that awful song Inside Out and that one album. Fun fact. Eve 6's singer is the nephew of iconic producer Don Was. But that song Inside Out defines everything I hate about nu metal.
