I seem to recall the Masterpieces being kind of... unstable in Brawl. Maybe it was just the inbuilt emulator Nintendo used, but I remember only being able to play about two of those demos at any time before having to back out into the main game for a bit. Don't misunderstand me: The masterpiece demos _themselves_ worked fine, but playing a third demo typically caused it to freeze on a black screen either going into the third game or coming out of it after the green timeout screen. And no, it wasn't just an abnormally long loading sequence. The "Now Loading" with the Smash logo never popped up... it just stayed black. Anyone else remember experiencing anything like that? It might've just been a fluke on my end; maybe it was just my particular Brawl disc or my Wii at fault.
Hard to say masterpieces was the worst mode when smash tour was a thing. Masterpieces was one of the reasons i became a game collector. Like i had a replay store nearby and my childhood consisted of saving up money to get consoles and games. I didn't have internet for a while till way after brawl came out. So this was one of the first i was hearing that these characters came from other games (which is sad because I also played melee) and got me curious to hunt the full versions down and collect them
I think they should have had "Here's the first world of Super Mario Bros." or "Here's Ocarina of time up until the first boss but you don't reach the forest." Something where it's still a demo but now it's just early game and it's expected!
Brawl was my introduction to SSB, and videos like these really highlight how underrated Brawl is nowadays. Still sucks that ''Masterpieces'' has just demos instead of the full games though. I recently watched a video in which someone did something complicated with Brawl's code and found that of all these older games within Brawl, are actually fully playable, but that Nintendo put an artificial time limit on them.
I think its funny that of all the masterpieces, the longest game (as far as I know) to be one of them, OOT, is the only one where the credits can be reached in the time limit.
Brawl masterpieces is the inly way ive ever played the first legend of zelda and i feel like as a kid i feel like only managed to make as much progress in that time limit as i would have if i owned the full game back then (absolutely no progress past the first cave where you get the sword)
5 mins for OOT always bothered me, I always wanted at least the first level of each game playable instead of the timer, but now I understand how emulation works now... What a wild world it was back then to have whole NES games in GCN Animal Crossing though.
You know what….. fair enough. I can’t think of many bad smash “modes” besides like smash tour but that had it’s own fun of just playing it with friends and making fun of how bad that was. Masterpieces are kinda boring
The Masterpieces mode in Smash 4 specifically was where I first played EarthBound, which is now my all time favourite game. What sucks about the trial for that game though is that you don’t even get to fight any enemies with the amount of time allotted.
If they wanted them to be ACTUAL demos, just include the first world. That'd be 4 levels for Mario World 3, for example. For things like Donkey Kong, include the first 5 levels. Legend of Zelda, the first dungeon, etc. That way players can enjoy a small part of the game and have enough information to decide whether or not they like the gameplay.
Playstion 1 Demo 1 games was mostly 20min demeos, I think Unlimited tine but ended when you got into a specific section of the game, so out side of it it you could do any thing, and some game had both the time limit and section limit. My favourite game was on Europe Demo 03 Armored Core it have no time limit or will not end automatically by it self, but the limit was Single player only had 1-2mission with a single equipment part to unlock, but fun part for me was versus mode where you and some friend/sibling could build and color your mech with jyst lumited parts, but could not save it, could then fight each other on just one sinlge versus mode map with a 2min time limit.
World of light was hella dull, it had fun aspects and the map was really nice but man i would have preferred a fully realized smash run or adventure mode OR ALL STARS MODE
Masterpieces are still better IMO than World of Light. I loved trying to figure out how far I could get in Kirby's Adventure before time ran out. It was a fun little distraction and yeah it can be a bummer when time runs out, but hey at least it's not World of Light.
Fun (Maybe) Fact: The first Donkey Kong Country was considered as a Masterpiece in Brawl, but the game was so rare they decided against it, I guess. Edit: Sorry if I was wrong about this.
42:58 That’s not Wave Race 64. Also here’s an idea: nix the time limit and limit the content people have access to per game. There! They’re still demos, people would still have to purchase the full game, but now it wouldn’t suck and you can actually get a feel for if you like the game or not without being abruptly shut out.
LOL thanks for pointing that out. I wasn’t sure if someone would or not. So, I’m pretty sure I had yoshi’s story written there in an early version of the script and forgot to change it while editing the graphics for that part. After rendering the entire video and seeing the mistake I was like, “eh, it’ll make the viewers go “hey wait a sec” or something”. I love that idea for a fix! No absurd time limits to jump scare and make you question what the heck you just played. Sounds great
@@MattTrashBoat LOL, I thought that was an intentional joke... because there's no way you could have 'accidentally' said Wave Race, since there are no Wave Race fighters. Also, I think the biggest disappointment, for me was that the games still had the time limit even if you had already purchased them. Space on the Wii was scarce, and when Sakurai made that announcement, it was a little strange, but I thought "At least I can save 32megs (or whatever) and an entire channel by playing Zelda from here." Since, _surely_ it would let you do that, and access your save files, because if buying them _didn't_ unlock them... then the mode truly _would_ be pointless. Needless to say, it did _not_ work like that. And by the WiiU, the system had so much more space, why even bother? Also, no way was I gonna buy Virtual console titles again (you were supposed to be able to transfer them, or something? but I could not get it to work).
Some of the demo times are a bit short yeah, like 5 minutes across the board would be perfect... But 1 hour? Lmao it took me 45 minutes to beat MGSV Ground Zeroes for the first time which was 40 bucks at launch... Heck you could beat all those games at least once in a span of an hour exept for OOT and Earthbound, so what the f does that MF on that message board is suppose to do with an hour long demo of Donkey Kong? Not even Country, just the NES port of Donkey Kong Arcade. Nintendo fans really need to share that blunt because clearly they're smoking some good sh*t and they ain't sharing it.
the demos are advertising for full games? waoh. I do believe you were seven when you played this, its the only way this news could be this big a shock to you.
11:40 - The original Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light actually did eventually get an English localization that was on the Nintendo Switch eShop for like $4.99 (basically just a Virtual Console release). I bought it because I was a sucker and fell for the whole fear of missing out tactic, as it had a limited release like Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Though I will say the game is quite fun, it's my first Fire Emblem game and my first game of this type, and it has made Marth my favorite FE protagonist. Sadly it is not available legally in English, unless you buy a console with it pre installed (like mine) second hand, or you play the Fire Emblem 1 remake I heard about, which is on 3DS I believe. Here's a blurb about it I got off of Google Search: "it [Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light] was first officially localized into English and released outside of Japan on the Switch Worldwide on December 4, 2020." Edit: 22:07 - Oh nevermind, you already knew. :^P
I have a very specific memory about Masterpieces. One day I just started playing the Kirby’s Adventure masterpiece over and over and trying to get as far as I could before it timed me out. I also ate a ton of Wild Grape Pop Tarts, which I don’t even like that much? It’s a strangely vivid, hyper-nostalgic memory, yet I wouldn’t say that it had much influence on me. I did eventually play Kirby’s Epic Yarn and I enjoyed it, but Brawl’s core gameplay was more responsible for that; haven’t played a Kirby game since.
LOL the grape pop tart part got me. I get the feeling though. Sometimes those memories that have no business sticking out just do, but they're often among the best
The reason you think “you can’t bake your cake and eat it too” is a dumb saying is because that’s not the saying. It’s “you can’t HAVE it and eat it too.” Cuz once you eat it you don’t have it anymore, it’s gone because you ate it. Changing eat to bake makes it meaningless
(Timestamp is 15:35 by the way) I've heard both before, and I always assumed the misnomer came from the concept of giving or selling the cake to someone else
i always thought the actual phrase was dumb, too, because for the longest time i was thinking of the word "have" as a synonym for "eat" (e.g. "i'm going to have steak for dinner tonight) lol
@@tsunderecat413 Even if you don't think of it as such, it's still a dumb saying. If you choose to have the cake rather than eating it, what the hell are you doing with it? The entire purpose of a cake is to be eaten, if you don't eat it, then the cake will just go stale, and that's just a waste of food, the ingredients used to make it, and the time and effort put into making it.
It still makes no fucking sense. Because if you’re having a cake then that would mean you’re eating it. Which makes the quote meaningless. Like cake is a food that you consume.
Think of the phrase more historically as a cake that you, a rich person, might want to display. Or a super quintuple wedding cake that tops your wedding decorations. You can't display that wedding cake and eat it at the same time. You're going to have to let go of it as a pretty display to eat it thus to have it and to eat it too is fully paradoxal
I think there was some kind of shift in the company mindset that occurred between Animal Crossing and the Wii Era. I remember Reggie had to fight INSANELY hard to get them to include Wii Sports with the Wii because they more or less “didn’t want to have developers work hard on a game and then disrespect those developers by giving away their game for free.” Of course, the masterpieces are the way they are so you feel like you have to actually buy them on the virtual console, but that “no games for free” mindset probably played a role too. If I’m remembering it right, Retro also wanted to include Super Metroid in with Prime as a completion bonus, but Nintendo axed it.
The reason Nintendo vetoed Super Metroid's inclusion from Prime is that it used a 3rd-party SNES emulator, and no such official emulator existed. Instead Prime's completion bonus was changed to Metroid 1, using a 1st-party official NES emulator from Nintendo (the same one used for Animal Crossing, I believe).
The idea that giving it for free disrespects the developers makes no sense once you realize that developers don't make money from sales. Like at all. This is why piracy is okay, the only people making money off sales are useless parasites in suits
Demos are pretty harmless. The timer is too short to be enjoyable, but this is the kind of thing you look at once then not again. It's not a broken addition or one that makes me question why they'd dare include it. Just a little tab for some promo for like Wii eShop at the time.
Exactly! I think it’s fun to take a deeper look into aspects about a piece of media that others only take a quick glance at. Sometimes you’ll find a bunch of stuff to talk about by doing so.
The problem is a) the timer was way too short to even be a proper demo, and b) a lot of the old games really should have just been playable in full, as companies like sega have included their old games as unlockables in other games, or compilations for much less than nintendo tries to desperately sell these for.
13:53 Now that I think about it, they probably made you choose peach because she’s the slowest character. You’d get farther in the game with a faster character, but peach ensures even your fastest gameplay won’t get you far.
@@MattTrashBoat fair. You could also argue they make you play as her because it was the first game they *let* you play as her, so there is some history to back up the decision.
I'm pretty sure they chose peach because mario 2 was the very first game she was playable in. mario 2 does seem to be used by nintendo to represent peach a lot.
I recall these having the most horrible input lag on the Wii U version. Also Zelda II is probably there because Link lifts a few moves from his Zelda II self in Smash.
I feel like Masterpieces is good idea with flawed execution. It's blatant advertising but if it was implied in a less limiting way, we could've had a memorable distraction. Part of me actually wanted them to return for Ultimate, hoping that perhaps it could be the best its ever been. I personally feel like them being the way they aren't wasn't Sakurai's call as his clearly has a love for retro games. Who knows what we could've gotten if Nintendo didn't try to make these VC ads. Anyways, this video was a good watch, keep it up man.
Yeah like Cloud being announced as DLC back the same year FFVII Remake was announced and Sephiroth being announced as DLC back the same year said Remake was released wasn't blatant advertising... Heck Snake in Brawl im pretty sure a trophy literally tells you to buy MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, out later this year.
What they should have done to make it actually GOOD EFFORT was allow you to beat ONE LEVEL of each...yes, that's a PROPER DEMO! One level of Mario, reach the first dungeon in the overworld of Zelda 1 and 2 (because the dungeon would be too much for a demo), complete one race in F-Zero, etc. I know it's hard to code in, but that is why they should have put more time and thinking, and understand how good demoes work. This gives players enough time to enjoy the games without feeling cheated of time! They can take their time to enjoy, and they can finish something to feel accomplished more!
Tbh, I think all this mode was trying to do was contextualize the early history of these characters. Show younger players what the older games looked, sounded and played like, but only in snippets, just long enough to give that context. They weren't trying to do real demos. I think the Masterpieces mode was fine. It was more of a mini-museum than a sample
I would agree to some extent, at the end of the day, it was mostly to boost sales for the virtual console. That's why Earthbound wasn't included in the western release, as we never got it until the Wii U
@@Tornado_Mang to be fair, weren't there legal issues with Earthbound because of its music, which is why the eventual Virtual Console release took so long and cost extra? Could have been a factor why that game wasn't in the international release as well.
Even as museum I think it could be way better. Add some extra infos and maybe retain the more arcady games in full. Something like the kinami arcade collection on DS
tbh Masterpieces doesn’t even feel like a true game mode. there’s no need to include a retro game collection if those games only last for a few minutes it’s definitely a good thing they scrapped it from Ultimate now that i think about it
It is indeed lame, because they're only weak Wii or Wii U Virtual Console versions under mixed saved files/moments and very limited gameplay. Plus, they really could've picked better games, and some they put in aren't even real masterpiece titles. They're pointless, especially if you own the actual physical release classic games. Funny video, though!
Fun Fact: The Japanese verison of Brawl's Masterpeices has Earthbound as an exclusive game. In facts in the only way to play Earthbound on thr wii since it never saw a real re-release on Wii Virtual Console.
Oh man, I still remember buying a classic controller ONLY so I could try the masterpieces... and I got exposed to legendary games like starfox 64 and ocarina of time, so I'd say it was a good purchase. Funny enough it did also subject me to super metroid, but I never knew it would become one of my favorite games ever waaaaay later lol
@@drrichardew7878 What, I don't remember her being any trouble... wasn't she available from the start? Lemme google something real quick: "Rosalina can be unlocked by having a save file of Super Mario Galaxy; have 4,950 races; or having at least one star on all the Mirror Mode cups." ...oh. Well there's your problem, Mario Galaxy is one of the best games ever made, surpassed only by Mario Galaxy 2, and Mario Odyssey, and a dozen other Mario titles... the point is you should have owned it already.
"get off the internet you eight year old" I feel personally attacked since I never had the chance to get the game nor even had control if I could get the game or not
The time limits had to be included so people would buy the games on the Virtual Console. If they had the full games playable, then there would be no point for the player to buy them.
@@JSRFModCentral nowadays compared to PS5 games Triple-A, and such $60 is considered "cheap." It wouldn't make much sense to put in a bunch of retro games in, as those might distract some players from playing SSB itself. Probably why Animal Crossing no longer has playable NES games.
Me personally, while I do get why the time limits were there as to get everyone to buy them via the shop, where I draw the line is the fact that this arbitrary limitation aged really poorly by today's standards. For Brawl and Smash 4, the console's shop to buy the games is well into its extinction, the time limit now only serves as one ginormous tease. I cannot help but shake the fact that these are indeed full ROMs of games that are crammed into Smash. Would it be too much to ask for had the time limit not been present? Sure, the price for that would be very high, but it would've been a cool thing to play the full games in Smash and have that be a bragging moment at a party. Person 1: "Name one impressive accomplishment you've done back in the day." Person 2: "I beat Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels without using warps from Masterpiece Mode on Super Smash Bros. 4."

Thanks! While I'm not specifically making content to be recognized per se I do hope I'll get a bit more viewers one day haha. BUT I gotta make sure I have content worth watching ya know
Mario 64 sadly was never included :( BUT I realllly wish it was because I would assume they'd drop you off inside the castle to run around for a few mins (prob 3-4 at most) which actually wouldn't be quite enough time to beat the game with boundary breaking, but still would be fun regardless
Great video! I the first time I discovered this mode on brawl back in the day. Spend a couple hours on it but that was nothing like that coin launcher mode, I spend a whole day playing that lol. You have earned my sub, I can’t wait to watch more of your videos!
I liked the masterpiece mode, if for nothing else, than because of earthbound. Yeah, the 5 minute demo doesn’t even give you enough time to get to the first battle. But it’s that demo that put earthbound on my radar at all.
I remember just playing the legend of Zelda demo over and over and over, along with the kid Icarus one a few times and also the ice climbers a little, and the Kirby one too.
The Masterpieces are waste of time. I remember in Gameking53's review of Super Smash Bros. Brawl where he criticized them for being a waste of time and that there's no fun you can have with them before the limit runs out. He'd change it by removing it in favor of more Melee stages and even stages from the first game.
scott the woz has made people too comfortable with the idea of stretching out a simple topic like “this mode is bad because the demo times are too short” to over half an hour 🤣🤣
Master pieces are a freaking tease. Such a sleezeball way of advertising the wii shop, like come on dude animal crossing had nes games, you couldnt give us freakin ice climbers. for christ sake we get 1 MINUTE to play mario
Good video but I just want to make a comment on how weak the delivery was on the "the joke is misogyny" segment. Did you know that there's an NES in Animal Crossing that can run almost ANY NES game? To normal players it's useless. But if you're a hacker, it can run roms that you "put into it".
I suppose making the masterpieces "unlimited" time without saves is like playing reproduction carts with non functioning save batteries ha (excluding the external save storage solutions).
I honestly dont understand why they decided on the timer. It woukd have been really easy to just include the first level in games seperated into levels. All Zelda games would have worked if they just were the first dungeon Super Metroid woukd have worked if it starts normally but lets you go up to Norfair but ends once you enter Kraids Lair The original metroid would have only needed Brinstar, with the Norfair Elevator room booting you out

Ok, on second thought, this is actually worse than smash tour. Seriously. A collection of 30 second ads for decade old games is definitely worse than the admittedly poorly made smash tour. At least there's *some* fun value in that mode
The most annoying part is that you need a certain controller to Play some of the game that was annoying Brawl is my favorite smash game, and the game I played the most was a bit of Kirby, and a lot of Zelda 1 but never beat it
40:51 I knew the year that Kirby's Dreamland 3 came out because I actually played it back then when it was brand new. What I find to be a much bigger surprise is that Kirby's Adventure came out for the NES 2 years into the SNES being out internationally and three years into its original Japanese console version the Super famicom. I mean only a year after Kirby's Adventure came out was the Japanese release of the PS1 and the Sega Saturn. It seemed back then Kirby had a knack to come out for consoles late in their lifespan or even consoles of the current generations predecessors. I mean even Kirby 64 in the crystal shards came out in 2000 and by then the Sega Dreamcast was in America for a year and the Gamecube was only coming out a year after Kirby 64.
ehhh whenever I hear someone discussing it, its usually in a not so favorable light. Calling it one of the worst modes throughout the entire series may be a bit harsh, but personally I think it's incredibly tedious and boring, so much so that I haven't even finished it lol. I think my biggest gripe with it is that it's a spiritual successor to Subspace Emissary, which I have my own dislikes about that mode, but I feel as though there's a lot more to enjoy with that package compared to World of Light.
In the gamecube port of Sonic adventure, you can unlock classic Sonic games from the Game gear era. That was back in 2004 and guess what, you had access to the full games, no restriction, no timer, no BS. I swear, Nintendo has no shame.
smash 4 shouldve had an animal crossing gamecube masterpiece, that would drop you into a house with all the nes roms, inception like. give you 3 minutes to be fair
Imagine a world where buying Smash Bros also purchased evey one of those masterpiece games in full. That would be a very expensive game, but it'd be the only one you ever need.

You know what….. fair enough. I can’t think of many bad smash “modes” besides like smash tour but that had it’s own fun of just playing it with friends and making fun of how bad that was. Masterpieces are kinda boring
Watched this and couldnt believe you have any less than 10k subs! Editing, content, commentary are all spot on, keep it up!!
I shall try! Thanks for the kind words dawg it means a ton
Dude this is so well edited. And the commentary sounds great. Keep it up!
Masterpieces was my first exposure to Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time... it's not the worst, that would be Coin Launcher
I was convinced that masterpieces was a weird dream i had as a kid
LOL if only
I would always immediately die in Mario and Mario 2 to get to be Luigi for like 13 seconds
but those truly were some magical 13 seconds I bet
@@MattTrashBoat I'd take those 13 seconds of weeg over 13 hours as anyone else
I thought I was watching some alpharad retrospective video, good job man
I swear to god, call this a Mandela effect or soemthing, but I swear the trial period for F zero was 8 seconds
Might as well have been lmbo
Yet speedrunners still managed to beat OOT within the time limit
That still blows my mind honestly. One of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen
People on youtube will fr just say something is bad and people will agree, even if it isn't
I can't find a shorter demo than the 30 seconds for Donkey Kong, but I can match it! Sonic Forces a decade later also had a 30 second demo lmao.
That is fitting for sonic forces LOL
Fun (Maybe) Fact: The first Donkey Kong Country was considered as a Masterpiece in Brawl, but the game was so rare they decided against it, I guess.

@@MattTrashBoat yep (it was unintentional but I'll take it).
Oh mein retro, this mode is filled with masterpiecen
Remember when Animal Crossing GCN gave you full NES games without any limits?
Imma play the Brawl DK demo *97 times* while this video plays on my Switch!
Wait, NOOOOOOOO
the demos are advertising for full games? waoh.

Here's a blurb about it I got off of Google Search: "it [Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light] was first officially localized into English and released outside of Japan on the Switch Worldwide on December 4, 2020."
Edit: 22:07 - Oh nevermind, you already knew. :^P
I don't think anyone can beat donkey kong in 30 seconds

Okay, so your comment got me REAL curious if they could actually pull it off….but alas it’s too short even for the best.
@@MattTrashBoat not even a tas bot can do it
Why not just extract the ROMs from the game?
Awesome video!
Wtf were those sounds 6:30 6:57 ???
I didn't even know they made grape pop tarts
Wtf is a grape pop tart
huh. now that i read it, brawl’s subspace is essentially a kirby game but with nintendo (and a sega) characters
kirby's adventure to speedrun his adventure and get grape pop tarts
The reason you think “you can’t bake your cake and eat it too” is a dumb saying is because that’s not the saying. It’s “you can’t HAVE it and eat it too.” Cuz once you eat it you don’t have it anymore, it’s gone because you ate it. Changing eat to bake makes it meaningless
(Timestamp is 15:35 by the way)
I've heard both before, and I always assumed the misnomer came from the concept of giving or selling the cake to someone else
i always thought the actual phrase was dumb, too, because for the longest time i was thinking of the word "have" as a synonym for "eat" (e.g.
I remember Reggie had to fight INSANELY hard to get them to include Wii Sports with the Wii because they more or less “didn’t want to have developers work hard on a game and then disrespect those developers by giving away their game for free.”
Of course, the masterpieces are the way they are so you feel like you have to actually buy them on the virtual console, but that “no games for free” mindset probably played a role too.
Wow, common Reggie W
you shouldve made this video only 30 seconds long then made people pay you for the full version
2:22 Finally, someone acknowledges it. Words like 'masterpiece' and 'peak' are over used.
This masterpiece of a comment is peak
Demos are pretty harmless.
The timer is too short to be enjoyable, but this is the kind of thing you look at once then not again.
It's not a broken addition or one that makes me question why they'd dare include it.
Just a little tab for some promo for like Wii eShop at the time.
Exactly! I think it’s fun to take a deeper look into aspects about a piece of media that others only take a quick glance at. Sometimes you’ll find a bunch of stuff to talk about by doing so.
What baffles me is that the nes titles are way too dark. The wii vc titles didnt have this issue
Especially considering Smash Tour exists...
The problem is a) the timer was way too short to even be a proper demo, and b) a lot of the old games really should have just been playable in full, as companies like sega have included their old games as unlockables in other games, or compilations for much less than nintendo tries to desperately sell these for.
@@seansquiers6506 Smash Tour is fun though
13:53 Now that I think about it, they probably made you choose peach because she’s the slowest character. You’d get farther in the game with a faster character, but peach ensures even your fastest gameplay won’t get you far.
That’s a good theory 🧐 honestly I do kinda like how they “make you” play as Peach since you unlock the game through using Peach (in smash itself lol)
@@jclkaytwo yeah what I said. That and her moveset uses some stuff from that game. (Turnips, the floating.)
Those wouldn't have been hard to code at all
Well you can beat oot within the time limit.
Let SMB1 be 2 levels, we're already really close to that.
I think that for smb1 it should be at least a world since if you are quick enough you can beat the first level
You can do all of those in the time provided, someone even beat ocarina of time in the time provided by the demo
How wrong you are, they was to try and get you to buy the $10-20 full version on the store lol
Even as museum I think it could be way better. Add some extra infos and maybe retain the more arcady games in full. Something like the kinami arcade collection on DS
@@Magikarp-4ever Exactly.
tbh Masterpieces doesn’t even feel like a true game mode. there’s no need to include a retro game collection if those games only last for a few minutes

The time limits had to be included so people would buy the games on the Virtual Console. If they had the full games playable, then there would be no point for the player to buy them.

The Masterpieces are waste of time. I remember in Gameking53's review of Super Smash Bros. Brawl where he criticized them for being a waste of time and that there's no fun you can have with them before the limit runs out. He'd change it by removing it in favor of more Melee stages and even stages from the first game.

I honestly dont understand why they decided on the timer. It woukd have been really easy to just include the first level in games seperated into levels.
All Zelda games would have worked if they just were the first dungeon
Super Metroid woukd have worked if it starts normally but lets you go up to Norfair but ends once you enter Kraids Lair

Yes 😈
That's what's cool about youtube. I was annoyed by this as a kid, so its cathartic to hear someone roast it for nearly an hour
Ok, on second thought, this is actually worse than smash tour. Seriously. A collection of 30 second ads for decade old games is definitely worse than the admittedly poorly made smash tour. At least there's *some* fun value in that mode
The most annoying part is that you need a certain controller to Play some of the game that was annoying
Brawl is my favorite smash game, and the game I played the most was a bit of Kirby, and a lot of Zelda 1 but never beat it
40:51 I knew the year that Kirby's Dreamland 3 came out because I actually played it back then when it was brand new.
World of light wasn't perfect by any means, but I don't think it's even close to being one of the worst modes in smash, was it that badly received?
ehhh whenever I hear someone discussing it, its usually in a not so favorable light.
I remember playing oot and just running around talking to people while forgetting about the timer
