- The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, a statement from Buckingham Palace says. Her doctors are concerned for her health, but say the 96-year-old monarch "remains comfortable." All the Queen's children, as well as Princes William and Harry, are either at or travelling to the estate. New UK Prime Minister Liz Truss says "the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news." Hosted by Ben Brown, Huw Edwards and Clive Myrie. This programme was on air from 13:35PM BST until 18:00PM BST.

The entire way The Queen's passing was very British and understated. It was handled very well --- from an American viewpoint. Everyone knew she was passing, but it was handled with dignity.
Soon as the news people dress in black we know whats going on.

I like this Channel much!
What an extraordinary Queen you, Britain and Commonwealth had. Try to preserve her memory as much as possible!
Thank you from Spain.
U wouldn't like it if u British
Rip to this beautiful queen ❤
A dreadful day. I was heartbroken.
So was I
Same plane carried Truss to and from Balmoral just 2 days prior
3:59:00 when you noticed two officers on the rooftop, you realised something bad happened to the Queen
something bad? was she killed? she died it's normal lol, these kids
Rest in peace to Queen Elizabeth 👑
I will always miss my beautiful Queen, God Bless you, I know you are with Jesus.
at about 2:54:00 on this tape (16:30 BST), the cabinet secretary informed the PM that the Queen had died. the public would not know for 2 hours after this
Leaders and heads of state of British Commonwealth countries (and maybe non-Commonwealth countries like the United States) and far-flung members if the Royal Family and far-flung British government officials (such as ambassadors) all had to be notified.
Otherwise, there would have been the risk of a high level British or Commonwealth official learning of the Queen's death from a news report he or she saw or heard on TV or radio.
This was due to Operation London Bridge. Liz Truss (PM then) would have been noted first as a cabinet member would have said "London Bridge is Down".
@@Etriland It was actually Operation Unicorn., not Operation London Bridge.
@@howardstephens5003 I think they changed the name
@@Etriland No, Operation London Bridge was if the Queen died in London. Operation Unicorn was her death in Scotland. This was always the case.
I watched it live as the day unfolded, so very very sad 😢
Same here 😢😢
I was also watching BBC News on this day.
So did I, it started with me at college but then at 12:40; i had a very rare text from Woody.EXE which sounded alarming and the message read “The Queen is not very well at all, I think you should come home my “Queen”. That word my Queen still rings in my head today almost 2 years on, I’m still his Queen today in 2024
It appears the armed police patrolled the gate along with a groundsman removing the no entry sign at exactly the same as the actual time of death.
Do you have the rest of this report? I can’t find it anywhere
1:34:00 was at approximately 15:10 BST, the time she passed away
It is the Royal Standard which indicates the Monarch's presence.
The Royal Banner of the Arms of Scotland, seen as from 1:34, is flown at Balmoral and Holyrood only when the Sovereign is not in residence. She has gone by then. I missed this signal on the day. May she rest in peace.
Being in the media, we knew that it was serious when the news broke. We knew about 4pm that she had died and obit procedures were then given time to prepare for the announcement around 6:30
Huw had a black tie on. Did he know before we did?
@@racheldemain1940 yeah a lot of media folk knew before it all went down. It’s part of our protocols for obit mode
@@racheldemain1940There is a certain order for who is told of the monarch's passing.
The Prince of Wales*
The Prime Minister
The government
The ambassadors
The media
The public
*-If the Prince of Wales is not present at the time, then he is notified (traditionally) by the Lord Chamberlain and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Very classy the way the BBC handled this. It was obvious the Queen had passed a few hours before but they wanted to soften the blow to the public before Huw made the full announcement.
I would think the delay was due to how many people had to be notified.
@@retnavybrat And just how dispersed they were across the Commonwealth in particular, including some small island nations where it was overnight.
The death certificate confirmed she died at 1510 BST, over an hour after Huw's shift began; PM Truss reportedly found out at 1630, another 80 minutes later, although even that gap feels long given the news had been anticipated over the afternoon. (The official announcement came at 1830.)
I don't know how many, if any, of the BBC knew in advance that she died - although I was in a Twitter conversation with someone in the control room at the time (operating the text strap at the bottom of the screen), who said they only heard when the tweet came through. Of course, the nature of the 1220 "medical supervision" announcement was a barely coded spoiler warning in itself, and one that set the tone for the period of coverage in this video.
I suspect that BBC's continuous news coverage on BBC-1 and the BBC News Channel shortly before the time that this clip covers.
David Howell:
BBC News, and other British TV and radio news organizations, had plans long in place for the death of the Queen.
This included news anchors having outfits in black in newsroom offices that they could quickly change into, pre-taped obituaries ready to go on the air (most TV news organizations have pre-edited video obituaries of major world figures and major figures in the organization's home country that are constantly updated and revised), and plans for special live coverage of the mourning period.
On both sides of the Atlantic, TV news organizations were caught "flat footed" when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, as they didn't have a prepared film obituary ready to run, given that he was just 46 when he was killed.
As a result, ABC, CBS and NBC in America, CBC and CTV in Canada, and the BBC and ITN in Britain all had to rush after the assassination to put together proper video obituaries.
David Howell:
Although the United States isn't a member of the British Commonwealth, it's my understanding that President Biden, Vice President Harris, then-U.S. House speaker Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Senate leader Chuck Schumer were supposedly informed of the Queen's death shortly before the news was made public.
very sad day to lose great Queen.
Она мило улыбалась, а чем ещё выражается её величие?
As soon as they said the family were travelling up to be with her you knew the worst was about to happen they wouldn’t travel in such numbers if it was just a minor issue
for me, it was when the palace released the statement saying she was “comfortable”. you usually only use terminology like that when someone’s full of morphine and on the way out
Gosh how much of an effort it must be to fill in with chat, where a bit of silence might be valuable.
“Let’s be completely candid now”
The big change happened … unable to go to Northern Ireland….
If Royal doctors say they are “concerned” under supervision/ treat her….
Sept time Queen scaling back
But clearly since Sept episodic mobility events. Helena wilkinson
I have come to believe that HM held out until Boris Johnson was replaced as PM. Liz Truss was no great shakes but did lead the nation in mourning with gravitas and tact, neither of which were qualities BoJo possessed as PM.
I hate him, and he's my constituency MP, or was up until resigning last week.
But his speech in Parliament on Elizabeth II was quite brilliant. He is not without talent.
At 15:00BST,the radio alert transmission system let out a sound in the background, thus confirming to everyone at Balmoral that she had died.i believe they waited to announce it till 6:30BST,so Buckingham palace could get the statement and Announcement ready.
She Officially passes away at 15:10BST
That noise was a chair sqeaking lol.Probably Huw Edwards getting into the chair.
Why would they notify the BBC of her death at 3:00pm anyway? Like you said it was 10 mins before she even died.
@@messystudios8505 BBC is always the first broadcaster to get notified of the death of a monarch or member of the royal family. BBC is the national broadcaster and has that privilege
@@messystudios8505 I think there were beeps that were something else, and then whispering, but timing would make that very much a "get ready" rather than a "this has happened" even if they did have advance notice.
And both Huw and a member of the BBC News control room that day are on record as saying they didn't.
Not exactly, there is very strict protocol as to how things are done. The first person to be told outside of the Royal Household is the sitting PM, she was told at 4:30pm. After the PM and senior cabinet members the next to be told are the leaders of the other Commonwealth realms where the Queen was head of state, after this it is the leaders of the rest of the Commonwealth nations then the leaders of other friendly nations (those who can be trusted tomstay off Twitter anyway) only then does it go to the public. Naturally the longer it is left after they start informing world leaders the greater the risk it will be leaked.
@@madabbafan And the heir-apparent before all of them.
what was the time of day when Huw Edwards took over?
Around 1:50 pm (16:00 in this video)
It seems to me with a passing of HM Queen the whole reality has changed not just for UK but to whole World and change is bad one
Why was there a flag flying at Buckingham Palace?
Since the fall out from no flag being there when Diana died, when the monarch is not in residence the Union Flag is flown - just in case a lowering to half mast is needed
It was clear The Queen had died, when TV journalists and commentators wore black onscreen.
And a few spoke about her Majesty in the past tense
They had advance knowledge.
😢😢😢
At 1:24:30 in this video (around 15:00 BST), you could hear some sort of alert sound in the background. I understand that it's the sound from Radio Alert Transmission System (RATS), the system designed during the Cold War to alert on significant event.
The Queen dies at 15:10 BST.
But,The Queen went into cardiac arrest at 14:37 BST,Doctors attempted to resuscitation Her after that for a little bit, they not could being Her back! So She was pronounced dead at 15:10 BST!

They could have taken a helicopter from airport to Balmoral. But I’m sure they didn’t want the noise of that to disturb her. ❤️

Just to think that the royal standard is never lowered, so at 15:10, it was flying because the king was in residence.
I also wonder... Had the king not been at Balmoral at the time of her passing, at what point would the royal standard have been lowered?
don't know if that does happen in case of Balmoral then the Royal Banner of Scotland would of been raised at half mast. Had it been Windsor or Sandringham then it would of been the Union Jack once again half mast.

Personally, I think King Charles III should convert Balmoral Castle to a museum honoring and celebrating Queen Elizabeth II.
This castle can be filled with memorabilia and exhibits about the late Queen's life and reign.
Balmoral is quite homely. Don't let the exterior fool you, it's not that grand. It's not a good place for an exhibition.
Its a private house why should he?
What a ridiculous comment.
That‘s a good idea. I would visit Balmoral nice to see how her Majesty was living with her husband the Duke ❤️
This has been spoken about, that this is exactly what The King intends to do.
This did not age well 😂
Dr. Jonathan Spangler was incorrect there are at least two "rogue royals" who tried to "rush in and grab the throne". Both live in Montecito, CA USA. However their pitiful attempt to 'hijack' the monarchy was an utter failure. Thanks to the insight of the new Prince of Wales.

@@glen7318 They can't... but British history is rife with attempts from junior royals attempting just that in times of stress and turmoil. Megan HAS stated - on record - that "all it takes is one plane crash" for Harry to become King. Need I say more?
