I take it if I fresh water dip all new fish there is no point in acclimation? 🐠🐟
What is the brand of bacteria if you dont mind me asking??
Did you add bacteria before you placed in your live coral too??
Aarons Aquarium’s what app are you talking about
What is the name of bacteria in a bottle?
Must have missed the bit where you added 50 billion corals....
I was thinking the same thing. Hey, artistic people generally don't think with the right side of their brain so what can you do...
did we miss a video thought this was a series showing all sections but haven't seen how you added the corals and types so a lot of info missing for a beginner jumped from empty tank to full of corals ?
That’s what I thought. I wanted to see literally step by step
Yeah he skips adding the corals unless he didn't put it in the playlist by accident?
Guys you add in the coral last as they die really easily in the wrong conditions.
K J he added them before the fish. I guess because he added the bacteria and skipped the cycle
He probably used the old tank 💧 🚰 .
Thought I jumped a section of videos, I would of liked to seen you setup the tank adding the sand, rocks, water, and more info on adding corals to the tank.
its been done, check his other videos.
would have absolutely loved to see you add all of those corals!
7:50 bruh I started busting out laughing
Just a few thoughts... When taking "shortcuts" in cycling a tank, I believe one should always use test sticks and be ready to do a water change if necessary. With such a small bio load maybe around 24 hours later. The bacteria that are added usually don't do anything, they first have to settle somewhere and replicate. The ones that turn Nitrite to Nitrate have no food at first, so they will take more time, which is why people often talk about the nitrite peak.
After watching this I decided to pull the trigger and set up the saltwater tank I've always wanted... keep up the videos and thanks for the nudge to get me going!
👊🏾😁
@@AaronsAquarium The lights... When do you switch them on. I'm with you on the cycle and adding the bacteria aswell as the fish, makes sense... But when do you stick the lights on? Are you still expecting to go through the "ugly phase" if your running your lights at the start...
Thanks
Can you do a specific video on how to test your tank, what to test for, what the proper levels should be
Thanks for the video hope the reef is doing well I love how you explain things so simple. Some people who I've talked to about the hobby over complicate things thanks again for making things clear
Enjoyed the video. I plan on getting into saltwater aquariums when I am older and actually have the funds to do so, but in the meantime I enjoy looking at videos and learning how it's done and how to do it properly. I feel the more knowledge I have going in, the better off I will be.
Your Super Simple Reef is epic! Great job in showing a what a simple setup can look like!
👊🏾😁
Proper set up!!! Perfect storm ⛈ only clown tank. Hopefully those guys will produce eggs for you and you can raise them that would make for some great content in time
👊🏾😁
Where’s the video where you added corals? How long did you wait before you added the first one(s)? Also, do the mangroves help with the nitrates at all?
Awesome little tank mate, all my systems are shallow-lagoon style reefs. Two thumbs up to yours 👍🏻👍🏻.
Love your videos man! So cool to see the evolution of the super-simple reef! Cant wait to see how it looks in a few months.
😁👍🏽
You are a great teacher “ I love you and how you teach and I have learned so much from you … I am a sub for sure
Those Mocha Storms look super nice in the tank!! Congrats on the new members!
Cheers pal 👊🏾😁
Really cool fish. The simple reef tank is looking great. Enjoy the video👍🏻
Wish you showed the process of filling the tank with corals. I'm just starting to look into this hobby and thats one of the things I was most curious about.BUT the video was still very informative and I'll definitely use some things in this video to help me later on.
i really would of loved to see you adding the bacteria
Wow nice mate 👍
It's coming together nicely.
*Happy* *Fish* *Keeping* 👍🐠
👊🏾😁
Great video. Love your work 😊😊
Tank looks great! I'm interested in seeing how the coral grow without a doser. Unless your dosing by hands
Thanks for sharing
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!
Yes Aaron! 👍🏿👍🏿
Also loving the ghostbusters T lol.
Lol top isn't it. I need to get more RUclipsr T-Shirts
I'm someone who's just getting into tanks in general and I'm years away potentially from trying salt water. I had no idea you could even do such a thing lol but the reef displays are absolutely beautiful. But I'm just digesting as much information as I possibly can about everything to do with the hobby.
The cycle methods I do have my head around and I'm just doing my absolute first fresh water tank. I'm taking a sort of half and half approach by doing the quick start but then feeding it ammonia directly. I want to see my maintenance and the balance I can achieve before I risk putting fish in at all. I also know the fish I do add are likely to not produce as much as I add directly, and that will affect things.
I just want to say that videos like this where you break it down into absolute necessities and explain everything are much appreciated. You may wonder if you need to show xyz step on camera, and for people like me who obsess every detail, I like that you do.
Really enjoyed the video.
One thing I would say is whether it’s an £800 fish or a cheap we still need to give it the care it needs to keep it alive and healthy.
In other words don’t gamble with a fishes life.
This is why I think if your new to the hobby it’s better to let the tank cycle naturally over a few weeks, then you learn what to test for while the tank is cycling and you understand and learn the cycling process.
If your new to the hobby and add bacteria and fish and don’t have enough bacteria or haven’t quite got the system set up quite right you could get an ammonia spike and the fish may die.
Questions?
Do you have biological media in the filter? If so why? As the rock will support biological bacteria so why do you need biological bacteria in the filter?
How are you going to control phosphate levels?
How often are you going to check and clean the filter?
What is in the filter? Does it have any sponges? Or are you just using floss to trap waste?
Looking forward to the next video.
Great little setup.
Some nice questions there for the next video. 👍🏽
Love this set up I'm a beginner and your videos were very simplified and helpful! I think I missed it but what size tank is that? I'm looking at starting up one about that size
The tank looks amazing, and them clowns are absolutely beautiful 😊 😊 😊 😊
Cheers pal.
@@AaronsAquarium how is everything going with you, I've not managed to catch any livestreams lately coz if work 😢
All good mate. Living the dream.
@@AaronsAquarium great to hear 👍👍👍
love this video good job men
Hiiii cool love the set up
Great video one if my favorite clown , and now the long fins, with I had another display to get a pair "been testing the wife" will see how it goes!! Tank look great as always!!!
LOL, Keep chipping away pal, you will win in the end 🤣
Great video Michael! Stunning black storms and the new tank is coming along nicely now, can't wait to see what it will look like 12 months from now. Will you be adding any more fish? As a fairly new reefer myself I have always taken your route with my past 3 tanks and simply added bacteria in a bottle and then one fish. Never had any problems using this method and will continue to use it in the future ;)
These will be the only fish. This tank probably won't be up for 12 months as it's really just to show how to setup a simple reef. Most of the stuff will move into my personal tank once this series is done.
The first taught me so much! A week ago I never owned a fish! I fish sitted a beta in a bowl for a friend and rescued him and bought a cute 5 gallon in my kitchen and now I am hooked. I saw a parrot fish at petco (those big eyes OMG) when I got my beta tank and now I want a freshwater and after seeing tangs ect and the beautiful coral and anemone and stuff I really wanted saltwater but thought it wold be to hard. Then I found this video but no explanation of the coral. Where do you get them and the anome? I thought they grew of of live rock! I know nothing really but I cant stop going to pet stores and looking and watching youtubes and researching fish and aquariums! I am FISH CRAZY! haha i'm hooked like a junkie and I am even missing sleep being online! LOL
looks great
😁👍🏽
Please I'd love to know if anemones are a good choise to adition in a coral tank. An expert told me they are not for the reason they might move and bleach corals not to mention if they loose and get traped in a pump. Thank you. Cheers from Argentina.
Hey Aaron how long do you wait to do your first water change after you add the turbo start and the fish? Thanks for the help!
Clowns are amazing 😍
😁👍🏽
Great vid
That was great. I love the clowns, but I don't have 800 quid. They are gorgeous though. I'm in Australia.
How do you like the keloray/cobal c ray 200 led lights compared to your other reef lights.
Hey Aaron, when adding beneficial bacteria should filter socks be removed, and should skimmers and carbon reactors be shut off? And if so when should you turn it back on. Thanks and great channel!
When you feed the corals you feed them every 2 days or when?
How long from the time you put the corals in, until you put the fish in? They got big! Just curious how long the corals were in there before fish
Nice video and a lovely pair of Clownfish :)
😁👍 Thanks Cesca
Loving the videos mate. on the verge of biting the bullet and starting my first reef tank.As I am sure you get asked lots of questions.Do you use a RODI unit for your water? And whilst running the tank with all the corals. are you dosing?I want to start a very basic reef haha.
Well... setting up my 125 gallon. glad to see this method! saves me time! how were you able to put the nem in so early on?
You take a big risk putting a nem in a tank that's not mature yet, min of 6 months a year is better!
Test kit and corls video did not see love the video
What are those plants you have at the rear of the tank and what job do they have ?? Thanks.
I'm not shore on anything about corols like what types are out there and what lighting they need and food types
Hey man nice aquarium what are the dimensions and at how many gallons. The tank monitor I have to look into, driving trucks as you have can take up a lot of time away from the hobby. By the way I use bio spiro to cycle
Maybe I just missed it, but what are the plants in the back of the tank for?
Do you recommend a floor mat to go under the tank stand? Any you prefer?
Is there an advantage to have the light that high above the tank? What would you suggest with a hood?
Adding the bacterial is a one time step or that step also need to be repeating?
I would imagine adding the corals adds bacteria well before he added the fish. So the cycle started before adding the fish and the bottle bacteria were introduced. In a tank that has no corals, can you just add fish and bacteria immediately after warming your new tank water?
Need more footage of the clowns buddy 👍 I have cycled reefs and freshwater the same way for years aswell, but I do prefer to dose ammonia and keep testing before I add fish still just to be sure.
😁👍
I see there was already coral in the tank when you added the fish. Does the tank not need to be cycled for the coral ?
Aaron, mate! Could you make video with adding corals and all other ornaments, please?!
I am beginner and I need more details with STEP by STEP.
There is nothing about it in your previous video How to set up a Super Simple Saltwater Reef Aquarium for Beginners.
Hi like your videos but would like to know what is the mangrove plants for
Just for decoration.
I’ve used ATM Colony with great success
😁👍🏽
What kind of plants do you have in the back of the tank?
What are those plants sticking out the back of your tank? Are they in the salt water and do they serve a purpose?
Hi Aaron, I would like to suggest some new content for your channel called "Fix my tank" ha-ha. I followed your instructions for one of your videos and it was going so well... and then it took a turn for the worst. I should of stuck to Fresh Water Probably. ha-ha. Love the channel.
and what did u put in the filter?
Hi Aaron, top vid mate. Where did you get all your frags from?
is it easy to just have corals in a salt water? cuz i kinda want a coral aquarium (my first salt water) but i kinda dont want fish. Hope some can help me
How do you add the corals to the rock? Are anenamies difficult to keep?
It's a little late, but you usually use epoxies or super glue to secure frag plugs to the rock. Anemones require high light par and really should only be introduced into mature aquariums.
I prefer to use Grotech CoraFix SuperFast. As this thing take 5mins to cure and let you put everything in place to the perfect position. Plus it will help if both of the surface does not have the same shape. By the way do not forget to clean both area with a toothbrush as there might be so bacterial film and you do not want to stick on part on this film as the glue would not stick properly otherwise.
Hi Aaron, love your videos mate! How frequent do you, or would you suggest to clean the canister filter? I was thinking of getting a Fluval 406 (165 litre tank), remove the foam section and add marine pure spheres. The bottom basket to house my mechanical and the remaining baskets to house Matrix,chemi-pure, purigen and pho’s-guard. Your thoughts?
I clean the filter every time I water change, so once a week. Leaving it longer gives more opportunities for Nitrate build up.
Thanks mate.
Anyone know the measurements for the tank?
What temperature is the water in your tank?
But how did u add the corals?
When did you add the coral
Holy hell thats a lot of shimmer from that light
I guess I'm still old fashioned, I know it works, I've seen it, but I wouldn't do it myself. Have you had any negative effects from a fast setup?
those additives don't work, I've tried them. If you add like four bottles then it might make the cycle process maybe a day shorter. Hate to see it recommended to beginners who don't know any better
How much Liters the Tank is?
Hi master:) I had. White spot. Problem 4 weeks. Ago and Iost my all fish. And. I used poly medic. It doesn't Work anyway my quastion. I changed %100 water I was. Wait. 7 days. Before adding to fish now. I add just ine. Fish. He look. All right. And what you recommend to white spot. Get. Rid in the tank. Or. Shall add. Fish what can I do thanks
What do you mean you added the bacteria? Where did you get it.
Awesome t-shirt
😁👍
What's the name of the song that played when the fish were added and the B roll of the tank was going on? The song started at 7:09.
Where did the keloray. Light come from
I’m a reef virgin currently setting up my new Red Sea reefer xl425 I’ve just purchased CaribSea life rock and CaribSea live sand. My plans are to go down the dr Tim’s one and only route. Any advice on this from your self or my fellow subs would be greatly appreciated. And great video bye the way many thanks
If you are using Dr Tim's it's basically the same process. Add the bacteria and fish and you are good to go
Thanks for the reply so does that cut out the long cycling process. I’m still very green but I’m learning every day thanks to you guys on RUclips land lol
It speeds the process up yes. Definitely learn it and understand it though before you do it pal.
What are them plants in the back?
Wow will love to have a marine tank...but hell its to expensive here:( But nice video man thanks
What sort of tank is that? Make? Size?
Lovely tank . I’m not have much luck with mine :( . Half way though cycle I find out I have large air bubble in seam of tank . So having to buy new tank and swapping it all over . Got to do the cycle all over again 😩
😭
How much those live corals cost you?
I wonder how much this whole setup costs excluding the fish and corals
Hi Michael, I did the 6 week fishless cycle approah after seeing Mike from MassAquariums use Fluval Bacteria in a bottle only to lose most of his fish. What brand of Bacteria on bottle do you use? Dr Tims is difficult to get in the UK.
The one I used for this tank was Fritz Turbo start. Alternatively you could get Fritz Zyme 9 or ATM Colony
Don't No if anyone has asked this, as I just come back from my holiday yesterday and catched up on the video, just wanted to no everything that you have running in the tank atm doesn't have to be what your going to add in the future but as for the moment what is running it ?
Check out the setup video I show it all there.
Is he still running this tank off the canister? Something tells me when he put in the coral he switched to a sump
Whats the difference
Please someone help me ASAP. I was meant to be setting up a 4ft acrylic with built in sump tomorrow but have been told by the shop that I need 30kg of live rock, live sand and to then wait a month before adding a fish and 4 months to grow corals. So I can really go out tomorrow, buy dead rock, add the seawater from my lfs, add bacteria and a couple of clowns? The person I bought the tank from always used bio balls in the sump, would I be better off adding eheim substrat pro and siporax I’ve used in my cichlids tank (cleaned of course) alongside bio balls or just bio balls? Sorry, it’s my first marine tank
Hi Aron, what size is your tank?
@aarons aquarium is the next build the 120?! Loved this video...
It sure is
When the shop bag is opened isn't there a big ammonia spike in the water? How do they last in that water for 1hr?
buzz 87 that spike will only be there if they would have been in the bag for a lot of hours.
Fish travel for days in bags for places like Australia. An hour from the shop to home is nothing buddy.
would have been nice to see the corals go in
Nice video thanks for the update on the simple tank
👊🏾😁
Hi Aaron,
What’s the brand or name of the bottled bacteria?
Aaron did I miss you making the video putting the coral in
