Thank you for sharing, as usual. By the way, do you need to get permission to play that song in your video?
You picked what is maybe my favourite songs between all my videos! She has such a great voice. The song is part of Epidemic sound which sells copyright free music otherwise I would be in trouble! I do try to fit in the songs in a way that matches the travel and at times this happens by pure accident, something that always surprises me.
Many thanks John. We only hear trouble about Pakistan but it has been one of the friendliest places I have visited. And then they have those mountains...
@@BromptonTraveler No, thank you. I came across your video when looking for electric kits for Brompton bikes on RUclips. The scenery was incredible and how you managed those mountain roads I will never know - I struggle getting up local hills on my 6-speed bike. Stay safe.
WOW awesome [ MASYAALLAH] I love Pakistani someday I,m try to go visiting them with MY, BROMPTON InsyaAllah.THANK U SIR TO LET ME SEE UR BEAUTIFUL VIDEO AND MAY ALLAH PROTECT UR JOURNEY AAMIIN,
It reminds me of the journey that Irish author, Dervla Murphy, made in 1963 when she cycled from Ireland to India. She didn't always get a kind welcome in the Middle East.
I guess very different times and also I am sure there is a different in perception between women and men in Muslim countries. In 63, on her own and on a bicycle she must have caused quite a shock over there!
@@BromptonTraveler She did. People just didn't expect to see a lone western woman cycling through remote areas. Many didn't know what to make of her. She is still going strong at the age of 88. Her great adventure in book form is called 'Full Tilt.'
A really enjoyable video filmed in a country that has a reputation for being hostile to westerners. I'm thinking of a group of mountain climbers who were attacked there. I'm so glad you found only kindness and hospitality. Because you are riding in such hilly country, do you have the Brompton with the -12 gearing?
Right Mike, that was at Fairy Meadows on the way to see Nanga Parbat, in 2013. My impression is that the country is much safer now but also that a freak event like that happens in western countries every other day if we think about mass shootings and so on...Unfortunately about Pakistan we only seem to hear about the bad things while each day I felt welcome and safe like never. There was no hostility at all; on the contrary I have never experienced such kindness from people while cycling...
Incredible video of a beautiful country full of wonderful people!, maybe if we all rode Bromptons we would truly be one world, one people. Truly a brotherhood of the wheel, thank you so much for these amazing videos!...
Right David. Whether it is a Brompton or any bike for that matter, I think there is something about cycling that makes people at ease and much more friendly than they would be otherwise... Maybe out of this bad situation we are all living at the moment, cycling will be seen as a good way to move about and people will find that out for themselves! Happy riding! Cheers
Wow ! What an adventure....... foldable cycle on mountains...... great. Even some of the roads were broken. I hope you didn’t have to any flat tires. All scenes were very well captured...... marvellous photography. Lovely peoples, simple and innocent. Enjoyed your post from beginning to end. Stay blessed.
@@wilcyguantero6804 I see. I must say mine has been incredibly reliable and is now 6 years old. I do need a new one! The new shifters might be more efficient but more fragile too? @@BromptonTraveler I wouldn't say fragile. Mine is a 2018 M6l which I got for a great deal. It's just that my bike shop took long to repair my brompton.
Bellissimo. Relaxing vids, make you smile. I cycled 10 miles locally (Ireland) this evening and I'm knackered. Sunny then turned to storm wind & rain for about half an hour. Normal summer. Even the cows ran for shelter. On those high mountain roads it's as if you are flying. You should maybe consider entering the Tour de France on your little bike. It should be easy after all your practice.
@@BromptonTraveler You obviously have a great spirit, shown in how you portray in video the wonder of the world on your travels. You look so contented in such majestic natural surroundings and you pass this joy and wonder onto us. Amazing also to watch something, comment and then get a direct response form the actual Super Hero of the journey. Wonderful work. Many thanks to you for sharing these beautiful experiences so well. You are a natural. It's almost as though you just popped out to the local shop but instead went some place very many miles from home.
How long did you take for this trip and when, which months? Where did you stay? You surely did not camp on this tour as accommodation would have been so cheap and it would have been flipping freezing to high up? Beautiful footage and music. Was it you playing some of the guitar music? I think the heavy traffic looked a nightmare. If the trucks didn't gas you, then they were pretty close to hitting you. They looked scary. Fantastic scenery at the end high in the mountains on the Karakoram Highway. Did you ride back to Islamabad or take a train/bus?
Cycling days were around 14. I had my tent for emergency and as you say in the end I never had to use it. The trip was beginning September and one track (the one with amateurish sound... ) was mine! Traffic like in India is a little hectic and can be intimidating but for the most part those truck drivers are very skilled drivers and also used to having cyclists, mopeds or carts on the roads. Halfway during this trip I took a bad fall and was limping for about a month after. Luckily I could cycle most of the route I had planned but the return was a flight back from Gilgit to Islamabad. Thanks
@@BromptonTraveler Thank you for your reply.Very useful. How come you took a fall? Did something or some one knock you off your bike? this is a big worry for me riding in far off places where perhaps the drivers aren't so careful but also the medical care should something happen to you, not be very good. I don't think I could ride in a country like India mainly because of the terrible air pollution caused by the old vehicles trucks putting out so many terrible toxic black fumes. I have ridden in big cities in China and Taiwan where people and traffic density is so high. I had to wear a mask as it felt like being gassed especially by scooters. I like my lungs and want them to stay healthy. Great video. Your Brompton is very well travelled. Thanks again.
@@alexmorgan3435 Quite a long story Alex which I tell in the book. In the end all went well and I was lucky. As you say it is a worry in some places and it was a worry in Pakistan for sure but to visit places there is always a little risk involved. I loved that trip despite the accident and brought back fond memories. I am on my 2nd Brompton by the way but even this one is by now pretty much restless. Cheers
@@BromptonTraveler Brazil is very very big, of course, but I think is great to ride in the beachs of Northeast, for example a ride from Recife to Fortaleza (direction North) (see in aventurasdebicicleta.wordpress.com/jijoca-de-jericoacoara/), or Recife to Salvador (direction South). There are many hilly regions with beautiful landscapes to ride in a bike too, for example the famous "Estrada Real", Royal Route, in the State of Minas Gerais. I did this route too, see in aventurasdebicicleta.wordpress.com/minha-estrada-real-1-860-km/
Fantastic video! I've been watching your videos of late and find them all impressive and inspiring. I am wondering, however, why you don't wear a helmet, especially considering some of the dangerous roads you ride on.
Thanks! It’s a recurrent question. I find wearing an helmet all day while on a tour not practical and uncomfortable. I am aware of taking a risk which I try to mitigate by being as careful as I possibly can.
@@BromptonTraveler Thanks for your quick response! Not meant in any way as criticism, and I don't always wear a helmet either, but do feel a bit more protected when I have one. The biggest problem is protection from the sun, and your hat is much better for that! I look forward to hearing about your next journey! All the best.
It looks like it but all he did was to stretch his arm towards me! They wanted to invite me to eat at a restaurant or have some tea and were the most kind of people :) The video is misleading as he looks as if he is looking serious and threatening me and was fun to include just because of that.
I know the local language, that man actually tried to hold his hand and asked him to come for tea. This is the local culture, we insist our close friends or guest to stay for tea, drink or eat something.
Great feat. What was the total distance you covered and for how many days? Did u faced any problems with the bike, tyre puncture etc? Very inspirational and beautiful Pakistan.
Thanks Munir. I had an accident coming down Babusar pass which resulted in a muscle injury. I had planned to go all the way to Khunjerab pass but my leg was too painful and ended a couple of days before then in Passu. Bike was incredibly unscathed even after the fall. I planned about 1200 km in 17 days but in the end I probably did around 800 km instead. Great place and wonderful people.
The second half of the trip is on the Karakoram Highway. After Gilgit the karakoram mountains are all around. From the road the most impressive is Rakaposhi which reaches almost 8000 metres and rises up right from the road. K2 range is much further in near Skardu which i didn’t visit. Also I believe it is a long trek from there to see the peak. Nanga Parbat is clearly seen from the Karakoram Highway too but that is part of the Himalayan range. Thanks!
Brompton Traveler Thanks, that explains it. They look so impressive in your video - almost surreal in their splendour! I will watch the video again as I didn’t realise they were the Karakoram. Thanks for replying!
How far is this from Islamabad or wherever you landed in Pakistan? How did you get to the highway from the airport? Do you have the coordinate points to share?
I flew into Islamabad and started cycling from the city centre the following day. I don't have the GPS of the trip but to give you an idea I went up the mountains to Murree, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Balakot, up Babusar pass and then joined the Karakoram Highway towards China. Wonderful country but mostly wonderful people and great hospitality.
Hi...must gave been very tiring cycling the Karakorm Highway on the Bromoton?...How many Kms were you able to ride each day? Also..looks like you met some very friendly and hospitable local people.😃👍 Do you think a Pakistani tourist on a bike would recieve an equally warm welcome in Europe/Italy?...sadly, I think i know the answer to that...😢
Suneel Gaur Karakoram Highway scenery is so stunning that you don’t feel tired. I would ride average 80km. Pakistani’s have been the friendliest people I have ever met. I hope a Pakistani on a bike in Italy would be also welcomed but of course nothing like I found in Pakistan...wonderful people and I also felt safe there. Thank you!
@@BromptonTraveler Hi..I asked this question because I am aware if how badly migrants and refugees in Europe/Italy are treated...Eastern European countries are particularly hostile to migrants....😢 On a more positive note...your videos are very interesting to watch..and nicely filmed...music soundtracks are also good...😃👍
Suneel Gaur i understand Sunil. One thing to say is that a bicycle traveler is usually treated with much more respect and curiosity by people all over the world. Otherwise i wish all European had a chance to visit Pakistan as they would change their attitude. A lot of it is to do with ignorance... thanks
@@BromptonTraveler Yes...I understand this.. I have bicycle toured for many years...but on a purpose built touring bike and pannier set-up.😃 Another question...during which month did you travel in Northern Pakistan? Also...if you enjoy out-of-this-world hospitality and fascinating culture, you must go to Iran with your Brompton..😃👍
Suneel Gaur Pakistan was end of September and first half of October. Iran and Pakistan are always at the top of friendly countries to cycle in! Iran is one place I will try to go as soon as possible!
That was out of respect for a conservative Muslim country. While I toured there I actually asked people if it would be ok to be in shorts. They mostly told me it would be fine as I was a guest in their country and Pakistani were the most hospitable people I could imagine, but I could tell that what they really meant was that showing some respect as I had been that far, was better.

Sorry I don't speak spanish but I can understand what you say. I chose to wear that hat as it is the most comfortable to keep me cool on hot days and dry when it rains. Most people choose to wear a helmet for safety and I respect that. Comes down to choice and I try to ride very carefully and take that risk. Gracias!

Thanks Govind! On a bicycle it is quite rare to meet bad people. You mostly meet people that encourage you, admire you and help you if you need. That is my experience and this is true of pretty much every country. Thanks!
Ergon GP2. They need to be slightly cut shorter to fit on the Brompton M handlebar but that is something easy to do and any bike mechanic will do that for you when installing them. Cheers
Yes. I have a video on filming on tour which you might find interesting. That was done few years ago so some of it is a little outdated, particularly the fact that since GoPro 7 Black, stabilisation has become fantastic.

Johnnie, do you have a wall of hats at home, or do you use the same hat and just velcro little flags on to it? Either way, I assume that your approach helps create a positive "ambassador" type dynamic. Is that your purpose? By the way, I am wondering if Pakistan presented any unique challenges for your safety? I have been there (Lahore, but not as a biker) and my local friends discouraged me from jogging and there were indeed several marketing bombings while I was there. I am wondering about your safety while biking large swaths of the country.
I replace flags on the same hat! Yes the idea is to make people laugh but they also appreciate it. For some countries, especially those not used to tourists, seeing their flag on a foreigner’s hat is a source of pride.
Great videos thank you. Just a quick question regarding your gearing for these big hills, are you using the stock Brompton gears or anything else? Best Ron

Very nice people Pakistan to be back travel again amazing place ! I love this place !
Me too!
I love “Catch the Wave”. It plays nicely against the background of your video clip at that instance. You really know when to play background music and when not to. “No more compassionn….nah”. 😊😊😊😊.
I really enjoyed watching this video, Pakistan is very beautiful & many thanks for showing it to us. 😊
Indeed. Wonderful country and very hospitable people.

Hunza Valley is the best part, and Pakistanis are wonderful people.

Stay safe.
John Mealor I always say mine is a 7 speed. The last one I call ‘walking’. I use it quite a bit on the steepest roads...
Wow so inspiring and admire your courage being cycling Pakistan alone. It’s in my bucket list but around my country only. Amazing!

Thanks! Beautiful country.
@@BromptonTraveler Thanks buddy, am also a MTB Rider and make vlogs while MTB Riding :)
@@johnnymac8680 yeah but its a different time now, lots of solo women travel to Pakistan and get appreciation.
That was planned attack by Indian Secret agency RAW. India is a sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan
Now things have changed all is under control and safe. You are welcome

I watch your video several times
Thanks John!
It is impressing what You Doing and Make.
Nothing impressive! Just cycling with a camera :) Thanks a lot.
Very nice. If only my brompton would be more reliable on my next trip :)
Did you have issues with the bike?
@@BromptonTraveler two issues the seatpost clamp and the 3 speed shifter had to be replaced.
@@wilcyguantero6804 I see. I must say mine has been incredibly reliable and is now 6 years old. I do need a new one! The new shifters might be more efficient but more fragile too? Seatpost clamp I thought is something that needs replacing after years but mine has never needed any attention... Thanks
My competitive years are well over! I am slower than you think but thanks!
I’m watching and following too many Touring bike Accounts from touristic view your content is more attractive honestly 👍🏻
Many thanks Moe! Most appreciated.
lovely people! I hope to ride my brompton in Pakistan someday!
Indeed. I never felt so welcomed in a country. I hope it opens up more to tourists as it is a wonderful place with so much beauty.
Cheers
@@BromptonTraveler I must get your book! Good plug ;@)
How did you manage to cycle all the way in the north? In awe.
With a Brompton, just a little slower with some well timed walks ;)
Amazing trip, I love your videos & rides, thank you for sharing. If and when you go to Brazil, who knows we can ride together... ;)
Thanks Paulo! One day I hope :) Where are the best rides in Brazil?
Oh, you did camping or stayed in hostels, etc?
Love your videos just discovered them, but what was the situation with the man that grabbed your camera suddenly?
It looks like it but all he did was to stretch his arm towards me! They wanted to invite me to eat at a restaurant or have some tea and were the most kind of people :) The video is misleading as he looks as if he is looking serious and threatening me and was fun to include just because of that.
I know the local language, that man actually tried to hold his hand and asked him to come for tea. This is the local culture, we insist our close friends or guest to stay for tea, drink or eat something.
Your very inspiring
Thanks!
Lovely video
Thanks!
Wonderful ...i like your generosity...
Thanks Abdul, appreciated.
Nessun problema all’andata?
Fascinating and enlightening video. Amazing country. Thanks for sharing. Ps did you see the Karakoram mountains and K2?
An epic trip.
That was indeed. Pakistan was a wonderful place to visit.
Love you man ❤️🇵🇰
I loved your country. Thanks!
Also..looks like you met some very friendly and hospitable local people.😃👍
Do you think a Pakistani tourist on a bike would recieve an equally warm welcome in Europe/Italy?...sadly, I think i know the answer to that...😢
Suneel Gaur Karakoram Highway scenery is so stunning that you don’t feel tired. I would ride average 80km. Pakistani’s have been the friendliest people I have ever met. I hope a Pakistani on a bike in Italy would be also welcomed but of course nothing like I found in Pakistan...wonderful people and I also felt safe there. Thank you!
@@BromptonTraveler Hi..I asked this question because I am aware if how badly migrants and refugees in Europe/Italy are treated...Eastern European countries are particularly hostile to migrants....😢
On a more positive note...your videos are very interesting to watch..and nicely filmed...music soundtracks are also good...😃👍
Suneel Gaur i understand Sunil.
I have bicycle toured for many years...but on a purpose built touring bike and pannier set-up.😃
Another question...during which month did you travel in Northern Pakistan?
Also...if you enjoy out-of-this-world hospitality and fascinating culture, you must go to Iran with your Brompton..😃👍
Suneel Gaur Pakistan was end of September and first half of October. Iran and Pakistan are always at the top of friendly countries to cycle in! Iran is one place I will try to go as soon as possible!
Beautiful video ! But you are mostly driving with long sleeves and long pants, thats weird :-)

Yes. I have a video on filming on tour which you might find interesting. That was done few years ago so some of it is a little outdated, particularly the fact that since GoPro 7 Black, stabilisation has become fantastic.

Beautiful country and people.
I think you visited the country during those old bad days when USA and India were trying to sabotage the image of this beautiful country.
How u did it?
Not that hard, apart from a crash that is...Pure joy brother.
Pakistan people are so beauty.
