Hi Gianni, this is Maryam. This video of yours inspired my dad into cycling. I lost count how many times, dad and I watched this video together. Dad really wants to cycle Carretera Austral. The plan is, when he approaches Lake General Carrera, he's going to video and call home, and we'll together shout uhuuuuuuu🙂
Hello Maryam, how kind of you to let me know! I hope your dad and yourself can fulfill all your wishes! The lake is really beautiful so I look forward to hearing from you when you get the call!
Really enjoyed your video. Brought a big nostalgic smile on my face. These are some of the most beautiful places on Earth and you captured that nicely. Me and my wife drove the Rta 7 and down to Ushuaia in 2017 and we'd go back again in a heartbeat, money, time and COVID permitting... Can still feel the washboard on the unpaved sections of the Carretera rattling my bones and the road dust in my mouth. And you did it on a Brompton! That only shows again - it's not the bike it's the rider! And it seems you've managed to sneak in and out just before the pandemic and the travel restrictions... Very lucky timing! Thank you for sharing with us the wonderful places you visit in this and your other videos!
Many thanks! Yes, the Patagonia trip was a lucky escape from the pandemic as it ended just about the same time as things got out of hands in Europe...I enjoyed the challenge there and of course appreciated the unspoilt nature. Washboards were a torture and of course the Brompton was not the right bike but it sort of coped...
Breathtaking. I thought that the little bit of camping I do with my Brompton is eccentric! I'm blown away. Breathtaking scenery. Obviously one of the great rides. Chris from London. Just ordered your book.
So well shot and edited, it was like riding alongside you, thank you so much for sharing this beautiful land and its wonderful, generous people with us! p.s. I will never again doubt my little Brompton's ability to deal with a few miles of rough track here in UK . Fabulous film, thank you Gianni :)
I hope Brompton bikes supply you with a new bike...plus a Brooks saddle...it felt like I was there witnessing beautiful chrystal clear water with saddle soreness thrown in...great thank you.
Thank you Gianni. I just cycled the Carretera Austral with you on my exercise bike this morning during our Spanish Corona lockdown. Very interesting and helped me pass the time until, one day, they will allow us to cycle again. I shall see you again tomorrow to accompany you on another of your trips.
@@BromptonTraveler I had my Samsung tablet perched on the exercise bike console so it was quite realistic with your forward facing shots. In fact when you were cycling onto the ferry and there were gaps in the ramp I was trying to steer the exercise bike to avoid the cracks! :)))
Thank you very much for your wonderful videos of your Brompton travels. I particularly enjoy those where you speak, sharing comments about the ride, and the general conditions. It is a special treat when you include your camp setup and camp tasks I enjoy my Brompton very much. However, so far I still use my Trek 520 for touring. Perhaps one day I will take short 'credit card' tours to keep my load light. Again, thank you.
It’s Wonderful to see your films. Especially now we have to stay home from the Corona virus. I go with you on adventure with the Bromton and dream away in your nice landscapes. Thank you for this films. Roos from the Netherlands.
So many superlatives needed to describe this video, the most stunning scenery, wildest landscape, most relaxing music, quaintest little human settlements, and probably the most challenging road and trail surfaces to tackle on a Brompton! This was such blissful viewing, thanks Gianni.

Looks great though. Nice to see the Brompton cope with the ripio! I've just recently done some work on my Brompton to increase the gear range, triple front chainring, Brompton BWR hub with MiniMods triple sprocket conversion kit. Hope to get touring on it sometime!
Thanks a lot! I bet it was even quieter when you did it then? I am always amazed to see the mods people do on their Bromptons, you will have an even more comfortable ride. I don't have the knowledge to do those gear tweaks but also find that the 6 reduced gears ratios are everything I need. After that I am happy to have a walk or two! :) Thanks

Hi Gianni, thanks for the wunderful impressions and inspiration and that you proved that a "simple Brompton" is a complete bike for longer journeys 👍! In Germany we say "weniger ist mehr", that means that "more is less" and I think that it can give you more freedom, if you take less things on the journeys with you. Thinking of this, a Brompton is also a good opportunity to focus on the really important things! So thanks for this understanding too, Gianni. By the way, in about one week my "simple Brompton" will arrive (only modification is 6 reduced gears), and I can't wait...Thanks and greetings from Berlin. Frank
Yes Lynne, hardly good terrain for a Brompton :) It was definitely the wrong bike to ride there but I took it as a challenge to see if it could cope with that mess too! That it did, was a bit of a miracle and shows what amazing bikes they are. The scenery kept the shakes more manageable for sure!
Beautiful place but somewhat dangerous to go alone most of the time. Thank you for your videos, they are really very interesting and amazing, I really appreciate your work. Take care and in bocca del lupo.

@@chololennon Thanks! I would like to do the lake regions one day or Mendoza and the wine region... Will see if I am lucky enough to get back to South America one day. Thanks
That is kind of amazing to do that rough road on a little city bike and that boggy hiking trail ! This guy is very stoic & possibly a bit nuts but a very nice trip & film nonetheless.
@@BromptonTraveler Haha. Good kind of nuts. Looking forward to checking your other travels. I noticed in this film that you passed another bike traveler in the middle of nowhere and all you said to each other was hi and drove on. Maybe they thought you were nuts? I guess you get that quite a lot. Keep up the strange work.
I wish I have a Brompton. It will be a new experience for me to go on long rides with smaller wheels. 😊 Amazing video, keep on sharing your adventures with us. 🚴♂️
That last part in Argentina was priceless. It looked like you might as well have demonstrated a bike feature by folding it and carrying it on your back! Regarding your thoughts there - I had a similar feeling when I walked on a horse trail that wasn't a trail in Tayrona park once :)
Are you referring to the sigh of relief once rolling on tarmac?? :) oh no! The muddy bit! I should have folded it maybe but by the time I thought about it I was too miserable to even try...the all trip was a bit of a challenge to see if the bike would hold in one piece. That it did and carried me all the way was in itself something. Of course it was not the right tool for the job...
You are very inspiring! Your videos are great - love the instrumental tunes a well. Keep doing what you do man - this is great content. I have purchased my first ever Brompton and will hopefully take it to many beautiful places too 🌄🚴🏻♀️🚵🏻♀️🏜️🏞️🌌
Thanks! Yes those washboard were tough even for mountain bikers and with my Brompton I had to always be on the watch out for them and take them slowly! Not the ideal bike on those roads but I was amazed to see it got me through it all the way.
@@BromptonTraveler Now, your food "adventures" ( re breakfast menu) might do better on those washboard gravel roads. Milkshakes, the ideal breakfast. Peppermint chocolate flavoured.
Absolutely stunning scenery. I can hardly believe you rode all that way on a gravel track! Was this with schwalbe marathon plus tyres on 16 inch wheels? I felt for you going through the muddy track and wondered if you’d make it. This looked like a real adventure! We’ll done!
I still shake watching it... :) Not the ideal bike for the job on those roads but it was a bit of a challenge. Schwalbe Marathon plus 16" indeed...If I hadn't made it through that jungle of mud I would have never gone into Argentina, nobody would have found me and I couldn't have edited the movie. Thanks!
@@BromptonTraveler Wow. I had butterflies in my stomach when I was reading this. Glad you made it back safely to tell your story and inspire others. You have inspired me and my husband. We have road bikes. We also have Bromptons, but I have not used it for touring…yet. You have have given us plenty of ideas and we love watching your videos. Thanks so much for sharing.
gorgeous lake mountains and waterfalls,I also ride 16 in folder BF Tikit with schwalbe marathons the tires never let me down,Love your travel videos Thank You.
Small wheels do make it much harder on gravel and are not ideal. If the terrain is well packed and doesn't have large rocks it is ok but on the Carretera it was a bit of a struggle and I did it more as a challenge to see how far the bike would go. If I was to do that route again I would rather do it on a larger bike.
Absolutely great. I ride my motorized brompton on Schwalbe Marathon Tyres to have less punctures. And 6 bars pressure lets it roll much easier. BUT every bump in the road directly transfers to the brain ;-( That's why I have installed a Lepper primus saddle. 2,5 kg but cooomfortableeee!!! I admire you for that tough ride. What tyres, what pressure, what saddle? (And : What a man! Thank you!!!)
Thanks again Elvis! Same tyres here I have always used Schwalbe Marathon to tour on my Brompton and I keep them well pumped like yourself. A Brompton is not the ideal bike on that road. I took it more as a challenge to see if it would cope and it did! From now on I will mostly stick to surfaced roads where Bromptons are great.
Derek I have edited the video for hours and now you even pointed out the location but I still fail to see benevolence in that mass of dark clouds! Probably my limit :) Thanks!
Go for it Rodrigo! I am not particularly brave. Just start touring closer to home and you will get used to the feeling of moving further. Brompton are also very easy to fold in case you need rescuing ;) Thanks!
Really enjoyed this. Bromptons are such versatile bikes and my own one has taken me along a good few miles of Scottish forest tracks not unlike ripio... in fact I could have believed you were riding though an emptier, Spanish speaking Scotland at times!
Right, no wonder Scots and Welsh folks did move there hundred years ago! They must have felt a little at home ;) Bromptons are amazing bikes although not ideal of course on such bad roads. I plan Scotland one day for sure! Just weary of midges???
Brompton Traveler Go before June or after mid September and you will be fine. Otherwise the weather is a lot like the first part of your Patagonian trip... it rains a lot!
Such a great travel film. I don't ride a Brompton (a friend does) but because of your experience and film, I hope to go there now. Beautiful. I loved seeing all the other cyclists along the road. It looks like there is a fair amount of infrastructure for bike tourists? How many days was your trip? Thank you for making this film
Thanks! It is full of bikers but not as much infrastructure. As far as accommodation a tent can be easily pitched for free but food is not often available and even when available is not great. Accommodation in guest houses or small hotels is very limited and often only in the few small towns or villages along the road. This trip was 16 days of cycling. Cheers
awesome journey, thank you very much for your video, it is beautiful, thank you for visiting Chile, I hope that the people and the place have treated you in the best way.
Nice video and trip. Looks like a gravel bike might have been a better option as your bike was shaking a lot, you did great nonetheless. Up late at night here in Las Vegas, there is not much to do when we are all locked down. Thanks for posting :)
Thanks Daniel! We are all in this together no matter where we live... Let's hope we can get back to riding our bikes. You are 100% right. Not the ideal bike at all on gravel, but a Brompton is what I have used in the last seven years of my travels and the only bike I have! I took it a bit as a challenge to see if it could cope. After some rough roads in the Himalayas and the Carretera I can say they are truly amazing bikes but from now on I will stick to good tarmac and smooth roads ;) Thank you.
How nice! The video itself is deserving a lot for all the efforts. What time of the year, how long a trip, any shortcomings or pearls for someone planning to do a similar trip? Thank you for all!
Thanks Mazhar! I went this year, starting last week of January, until 20th of February. Carretera Austral is 1200km of mostly bad roads but I did only half from Coyhaique. If you have more time the start is from Puerto Montt. Only planning you need is being prepared from all kinds of weather, hot or cold and some bad roads. Food is also not always available as there are not many towns. Water is fine as you can drink it from rivers and waterfalls. Thanks
Dear Gianni, this is what I hope to be doing. Soon, I hope. Still planning. Patagonia is a LONG, LONG way away and I doubt if I will get that far. Haven't even got the Brompton as yet. Still deciding! Rain touring...not my idea of fun. Thankyou for sharing. 🙂👍💟⭐⭐⭐🇩🇪🇦🇺
Thanks Carolle! Yes, Patagonia is far...it took me quite a few years to finally make it there. The world is a beautiful place and by bike you can really appreciate it. Not too fond of rain myself...and cold too talking about it! This was a little exception to see the place ;)
He looked like a stray dog but cannot be sure. He was with me very briefly actually... About 10 minutes or so! On my India trip there is a cute dog that followed us for 2 days :) Thanks!
nice video, i am your subscriber from indonesia. There are so many interesting places here such as bali, lombok and sumbawa islands. Not just the nature , you will see the great/unique cultures as well.
What a beautiful journey! I can't help but be curious, did you have any flats or mechanical failures along the way? And any issues with tire repair (ie: running out of patch kits or tubes)? You did more off roading than on. Quite an impressive show for the Brompton.
Thanks Brian, all I had was a single flat tyre! No breakdowns and that was on a 7 years old Brompton which I have retired even though still going strong!
@@paliaha706 They are really sturdy bikes so I wouldn't worry. I had used mine a lot on these trips and I could resell it and buy a new one. The only thing to watch is wearing parts that on an older bike might need replacing. Aluminum parts like handlebar, but also wheels if the were used a lot might need a change but otherwise these bikes go forever.
@@BromptonTraveler , thank you, Mr Gianni. Your creme green Brompton should be in the Brompton Traveler Museo. Don't tell me you got the Titanium Brompton!! US$5,000. That's crazy.

@@chololennon Thanks! I would like to do the lake regions one day or Mendoza and the wine region... Will see if I am lucky enough to get back to South America one day. Thanks
Beautiful video, beautiful country ......Thanks !
Many thanks!
That is kind of amazing to do that rough road on a little city bike and that boggy hiking trail ! This guy is very stoic & possibly a bit nuts but a very nice trip & film nonetheless.
Confirming the guy is a little nuts.
Sometimes people look at those wheels and wonder😊
Good job, Gianni.
Another excellent travelogue.
Thank you and best wishes.
Stuart.
Thanks Stuart, appreciated.
I enjoyed watching all 43 minutes. Bravo.
Gav Leone thanks a lot!
I wish I have a Brompton. It will be a new experience for me to go on long rides with smaller wheels. 😊 Amazing video, keep on sharing your adventures with us. 🚴♂️
Thanks Dave. The best bike they say is the one you have! :) Happy riding!
Thank you a great movie.Excellent cinematography.
Most appreciated! Thanks
this moments there...you live...you cant pay....its magic and we call it life....you just live my friend...and you make me dreaming.
Thanks a lot!
You are very inspiring! Your videos are great - love the instrumental tunes a well. Keep doing what you do man - this is great content. I have purchased my first ever Brompton and will hopefully take it to many beautiful places too 🌄🚴🏻♀️🚵🏻♀️🏜️🏞️🌌
Many thanks sir! You will have a great time with your new bike ;)
Exceptional thank you for showing this journey to the world.
Thanks Bill! Most appreciated.
Sempre que sai um novo vídeo , eu acompanho, lugares lindos, natureza maravilhosa, parabéns Gianni.
Muchas gracias Luis!
Thank you for sharing a wonderful journey. Great filming, great music and commentary. The "Washboard" Looked painful as hell.
@@carolleenkelmann3829 Milk powder i guess??? Couldn't get a drop of milk around there! Open to new recipes for a cold meal :)
@@BromptonTraveler Nesquik with milk powder and water isn't too shabby.
@@pootlingalong8928 I love Nesquik! It was comfort food as a child... I didn't see much of that around either though... :)
Barrie Wylde cheers Barrie. I am sure BF are great bikes to tour with. Thanks
I barely missed my flight back to Melbourne but things aren't all that bad here in Chiangmai. Excellent production as always Gianni.
Not a bad place to be lockdown indeed! All the best to you and let's hope we can get back to some more cycling... Thanks.
nice adventure, i wonder how fast your ride on gravel road with that small wheel.
Excellent video, took me away from the virus for a short enjoyable moment. Thank you.
Yes, we all need a little traveling... :) Thanks!
Beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to make the film and sharing. Music was perfect.
Thanks Steve! Appreciated.
Que maravillosos lugares, no llueve nunca en tus viajes ? en los míos casi siempre !! 😩😂👍
It rained a lot the first two days! I filmed a bit of it. Also much harder to film when wet...
Benevolent face in the clouds, top right hand corner @3:53 😊
Derek I have edited the video for hours and now you even pointed out the location but I still fail to see benevolence in that mass of dark clouds! Probably my limit :) Thanks!
I want to be brave just like you. Take my Brompton and do Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Congrats on the video and for your trip. Amazing.
Go for it Rodrigo! I am not particularly brave. Just start touring closer to home and you will get used to the feeling of moving further. Brompton are also very easy to fold in case you need rescuing ;) Thanks!
Mi tierraa!!! Excelente viaje!!
Lucky you Julio! Wonderful places.
Brompton Traveler
Go before June or after mid September and you will be fine.
Cheers
Man, the fishing along that journey must be incredible.
Right! Out of my scope but I was cycling with a Canadian couple who was making the most of the rivers around there, fishing for salmon! Cheers
Lots of gravel roads on that trip. Well done sir
Yes there were!
Wonderful countrysides, nice music ! I like your videos, keep on traveling and posting ! Best wishes
Thanks!
wow.. this is my dream, thank you sir for inspiring, i wacthing this 5 times 😊
Thanks for watching!
The importance of having the latest model of gravel bike. Very good, well done, congratulations.
thanks!
Gianni congrats for the adventure and great video. Best regards from Toronto.
Thanks Juan! Appreciated.
Great video 😄👍 Enjoyed your journey on a folding bicycle beautiful landscaped.
Thanks Jason! Appreciated.
Great video! Thanks for sharing and well done on that track in Argentina 😂
Thanks! 😃A little more mud than I normally would like...
What a completely enthralling video. Thank you.
Thanks Neil! Appreciated.
Thank you so much for your videos. It's so great to cycle 🚴 with you and fly in my dreams. 💙💜💙💜💙💜
Glad you enjoy it!
Great movie, especially with the storytelling.
Thanks Jacobo, appreciated!
Thank you Sir, very inspiring tour...
More than welcome.
awesome journey, thank you very much for your video, it is beautiful, thank you for visiting Chile, I hope that the people and the place have treated you in the best way.
Patagonia's people were wonderful everywhere I went in both Chile and Argentina. Thanks!
Great video, I always watch
Appreciated, thanks!
Fantastico!
Saluti.
Great video Gianni, so beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Mike!
Best "landlord" ever.. love your content.. keep up the great work
Ma sei Claudio Gobber per caso??? Grazie
Thanks
@@BromptonTraveler Thanks a lot.
@Brompton Traveler, The beautiful dog at 1:22, how far did you go with him? Was he a stray? He’s so cute! Thanks for sharing!
Yes, I would like to cycle there one day! I did visit Bali once and it was such a beautiful place and people. Thanks!
@@BromptonTraveler Do you use drone ?
Setiawan Suryatmoko no drones. They are too much work and still too heavy to carry. I would love the footage of course.....
@@BromptonTraveler , oh, no. I bought a 5 year old Brompton and have had it for 2 years. Should I be careful about something?
What a beautiful adventure! I notice the roads are mostly unpaved there. What's your overall thought on how the small tires handle unpaved roads? Did you wish you had a bigger bike the whole time?
Brompton wheels are generally too small to be comfortable on unpaved roads but they cope with it really well nevertheless!
Fair play not an easy trip. Well done ,gold star for effort lol.
Thanks Jonathan. Fair play to a bike that shouldn't cope with bad roads like that but it did ;)
It's nice to see a new upload in your side, I'm waiting for this for a long time:) welcome back... always keep safe.
Right! Wish I could take a ride each month! :) Thanks
Interesting..let me know how is your chainring size for climbing? Thank you
I use standard Brompton 6 gears, reduced 12%. Thanks
Hello sir 😊
no words for your arrangements.✏️ it's just supper talent to organize everything. I have watched your all trips almost. Writing book, shooting movie, tyre on backpack, interaction with people, while talking your laughters and respect towards people, road sceneries, your cheks shirts and specially your hat with flag. all things you are fixing properly.
