Much enjoyed, Gianni! I've been touring for 30 years now on standard 27 inch wheel bikes, and am now in the process of buying a Brompton. It's the ease of moving across transport modes - airplanes, trains, buses etc - that appeals. It's been confidence building to see you tour on the Brompton! Good man! (Yeah, damn dogs!)
They are good and reliable bikes and you'll have lots of fun with it and it will make those transfers, that can be a real pain with a regular bike, much easier. Thanks.
Muchas gracias. Ciao
Another nice bike touring video. Even when things are a little down with the dog nip he doesn't let it ruin the trip. Life has its ups and downs thrown at us and we can choose how to react. He exemplifies living in harmony.
There are so many wonderful aspects of your videos.... one thing I love is that you wear a hat (with the flag) and not a helmet... so chilled, so you!😊
What a wonderful journey you documented once more, Gianni! Overwhelming landscapes in Colombia (you brought a drone this time, which brings even more beautiful pictures, but is also time consuming for you). You surely had a tough uphill climb with the Brompton to these extreme hights, congrats to this achievement!🎉 As my always inspiring Brompton adventurer I want to thank you for sharing your travels and the beautiful videos you are creating! ❤️
Thanks a lot Birgit! Your comment is most appreciated and glad you enjoyed Colombia too. Drone is time consuming but I suppose worth the extra effort 🙏
Hi Gianni! Oh how did I miss this?! What a lovely film! I loved the drone shots, esp those shots of you riding along beautiful curving roads in the huge mountains, a tiny bike in the massive landscape... I love those kind of shots. Also loved seeing the houses and the what the cities are like how the farmland looks and everything, and all your encounters with friendly people. Not so good about the dog that bit you - oh poor you, I hope it all healed OK and no after effects. But it looked like a marvellous trip! Hurrah! Thank you for making the lovely film! Best wishes!
Great video. I had a very close call with dogs this time last year in Gran Canaria. Was chased by 7-8 dogs which leapt onto an outhouse and then over the roadside fence to chase me as I was climbing up to Pico de las Nieves but with a long way still to go. It was pretty steep so I was moving pretty slowly. I stopped and put my Brompton between me and them but 2 of the dogs circled behind me coming in low to try to bite my ankles. Then all over a sudden a huge beast of a dog came charging toward me barking and snarling from a neighbouring property. All the other dogs who were trying to attack me fled. This huge beast of a dog, it looked evil, ran up and down around me barking and growling menacingly for a few minutes, but then let me go. I was shaking like a leaf. There were cars outside both these properties but no one came out to help. As well as the doctor did you contact the local police about the dogs? I thought you would have needed rabies injections as the dog bite broke your skin and drew blood? What gearing did you have on your Brompton for this trip with all the climbing that you did? An 80km descent would have been awesome ........ Columbia looks beautiful and so clean. No run ins with the Farc then, only dogs?
I was too complacent on this occasion as dogs were not too large... From trips to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Morocco I have had a good experience with them and know that unless you are blasting at speed on a downhill the only sensible thing to do is stop! Hope that last dog that came didn't get a taste of you! Cheers
Lovely way to start my Sunday here in Budapest. Another exceptionally well-produced travelogue on your Brompton--as always. Glad to see your first dog incident was not too serious. Certainly it influenced your next encounters--saw you get off your bike. Your videos are a true gift to the Brompton community and bike travelers of any persuasion. Thanks, Gianni! 🙏
Your best video tour yet, amazing, stunning scenery , great narration and plenty of good on the road footage. I really enjoyed it, so much so I watched it twice because I kept being interrupted !! Thank you for sharing your journey to places I'd love to visit but almost certainly won't get the opportunity. Best Brompton channel by far....10/10. It must be great speaking different languages, it opens up so many more opportunities to interact with citizens of the country and really enjoy the location .......well done to you for learning them.
Most kind Graham! Good to know I am not getting worse at it :) It seems that adding a bit more commentary is a positive change so I will keep this format for future projects. All the best.
Dont envy you and those climbs Gianni but the descents must have been magical And those lush tropical landscapes are so picturesque and wonderfully captured Love these adventures and snapshots of countries most of us will never visit Thank you and stay safe on those roads
You ŵènt through moniquira, sta Sofia and Villa de Leyva, the area where I was born and where I have returned after decades of living outside Colombia, to enjoy the simple living, excellent weather, good old friendships and çycling...good luck in your travels and hope you can accomplish them without problems..
Gianni, you are the man! I love your simplicity, unpretentious and no-nonsense style and character and yet your videos are the most pure, beautiful and immersive. Ride on. Pura Vida! 😎
Wonderful to see the exotic landscape, the green hills, the clouds, the lovely roads. I live in S. America, but much farther south (Uruguay) and it is not as lush and green, much dryer, hills are low and gentle.
OUTSTANDING. Gianni you've been an inspiration to lots of Brompton riders for years and each video you do gets better. Now that that you're including drone footage and the 'vlogs' to camera, just lifts your travelogues to an even better viewer experience. Everyone watching this video has dreamt of accomplishing even just one of your journeys on their little bike, rather than daily commute to work and back.... Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. P.S. Your thighs must be as hard a steel after tackling all those long climbs, well done!
Many thanks for the comment. Most people appreciated a bit more talking in the video and I will keep this up and improve it in future plans. If I have been able to do any of these journeys on a folding bike most people with an average fitness would be able to! Sometimes one has to just give it a try and be surprised of how simple it is. :) Cheers
I ordered one of your 2 books on Amazon, Touring on a folding bike. It is a fun, informative, and inspiring book. A real pleasure to read. Well I got a few bits and bobs to put on my bromton, tips I got from reading your book. I'm almost afraid to ask where your next tour will be, mount everest, Switzerland, or maybe Africa. Safe travels to you.
Thanks a lot Robert! Good you did get some ideas for your own future Brompton trips...If at all you get a chance to review the book too that would be most helpful! As far as future trips I am not decided on my next one but I know it will be somewhere in Asia but not up Mount Everest! :) Safe rides to you too!
Hello Gianni, What a fabulous adventure... I loved watching the climbing and descending, It goes to show if you're fit a Brompton can take you anywhere you want to go. The Colombian people all seemed very welcoming, Excellent video, thank you. Take care. Paul,,
Great video! Very surprised to see you touring my country, made me nostalgic about the landscape and people. Traveling up and down the Andes from Bogota to the Caribbean or to Cali by land by car few times is part of my best memories of that country. Congratulations!
It is always good, and recommended, to travel with an emergency kit, where you can take your medications, alcohol and bandages, such as antibiotics in case of an urgent need. And about the dogs, you are correct. It is always recommended to get off and use your bicycle as a shield, you move it on the wheels depending on the location of the dogs. Those tips always help. Good video, very good, thanks for sharing. What will be your next destination...??... Will you travel to South America again in the future, Chile, Argentina, Peru...??
You are right. I have carried a first aid kit at times but sometime I get too lazy to bother and it would have been helpful here even though in the end I needed to visit a doctor to get things checked properly. Next summer I am planning some longer trips starting with Scandinavia. Would love to come back to South America soon in any of the countries you mentioned and maybe Peru too and Ecuador if it ever calms down... Thanks!
Hi....@@BromptonTraveler Excellent...!!! It's a pleasure to talk with you again, master of adventure, with a Brompton... I have seen all your videos and I dream of doing the same one day. I have so many doubts and questions about your trips, it could take us hours of conversation. If you have plans to visit Peru, I will gladly welcome you in Lima, we will welcome you at Team Brompton Peru. It will be an honor for us. I've had a folding bike for years, but I'm relatively new to Bromptons. Greetings and have a great weekend with your family.
@@macola1970 Great to hear you have a Brompton Team in Lima! Wasn't aware of that . I hope to spend some time in South America in the future and if I am around there I will definitely look it up! All the best to you too and happy travels ;)
What always strikes me about your videos is the way you present the warmth of the people you encounter. I know you did not have to camp out but would it have been safe to do so? I have not seen much about whether the venomous insects and snakes are an issue in Latin American countries. In Joshua Tree in California you have to be concerned about rattle snakes at night so no sleeping out in the open. You at least need a fully enclosed tent.
Thanks! When traveling one realises that 99.9% of people you meet are kind and helpful if needed. Maybe part of it is that as a cyclist you are not perceived as a threat or as a wallet to empty when in touristic areas….I wonder. South America is vast and I am sure animals can pose a threat in places but so far where I have been, parts of Chile, Argentina and now Colombia, the main issue was stray dogs!
Great to hear. I do get a request to describe a bit more my trips so I will be adding a bit more commentary in the future, it's always a learning process! Someone also asked about music credits... I use Epidemic Sounds which is a paid service for social media music and hopefully rewards artists accordingly. Saying that I also loved that song too as soon as I heard it. Artist is Caro Luna and song is 'A mi madre'. Cheers
Hey Gianni, Another great movie 👏,really liked the additional narrative as you went along 👌. The follow along drone was very cool also,it’s a country i know little about and you have opened my eyes to.I always look forward to your adventures on RUclips and thanks again for sharing your experiences 👍🚴♀️ Keep it up,and hopefully your wounds are now healed.David.
Happy you enjoyed it David! Thanks for the comment and will keep adding more commentaries in future travels. Dog bite turned out to be not too concerning and was really glad to complete the tour despite that! Cheers
:-)) Ciao!
Another great video, Gianni and unlike most of your past videos you put a bit commentary through out the video that added more attraction to the video. Even though the video was little bit longer than your usual 30-45 minutes video, it was fantastic. As a fan of yours I'm going to do NC500 later this month and replicating the path of my bike-touring hero. I bought my Brompton after watching your Carretera Austral video.
Fantastic! Great to hear. NC500 Is an epic ride. In April and May it might be a little cold still but i am sure you are well prepared for that. Wishing you sunshine!
The white houses & cobblestone streets remind me of Girón, which is near Bucaramanga. Northern Colombia, about four hours away from the coast, and also about the same distance from Venezuela.
The moving forward with nice smoothing music. Still waiting for your Japan Journey. 😁 Reminded me a short story that I have read "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" by Colombian writer author Gabriel García Márquez.
In the process of reading One hundred years of solitude by Garcia Marquez so I will look up that short story...Would I be the Very Old Man with small Wheels???? Thanks for sharing! You are tempting me with Japan!!! I go there often not cycling... I know my next trip will be Asia but have not quite decided where yet!
@@BromptonTraveler Sorry pal to digress a little. The magical realism from Gabriel García Márquez, somehow led me to another movie called "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs". And its third story "Meal Ticket" , It is a melancholic and bleak tale about a traveling showman (Liam Neeson) and his limbless performer (Harry Melling). To me, the brief storylines has resonated so well? or relatable to experiences many of us feel to having, i.e. the exploitation of vulnerable people for entertainment, as well as a reflection on the limits of human kindness and compassion. nice to chat....☺
Wonderful. You are definitely expanding your comfort zone with your South American adventures. I liked the addition of you commentary as well as the drone footage (which, although adding a new dimension, must have added much more difficulty to your daily filming). You seemed to be carrying your camping gear, did you get a chance to wild camp? I always look forward to your Brompton adventures. Peter
Sorry for the late reply Peter i seemed to have missed your comment…Colombia, despite the dogs…, was a wonderful experience and place. Spot on with the drone! I also love the footage but it does take time to film those shots. It gets easier once you are more comfortable flying it! This was the only trip i didn’t carry a tent. Colombia has enough guest houses and hoteks and prices are most affordable. Also not too easy to find campsites or wild camping spots. I missed not having a tent in a couple of places but otherwise was a good to choice to save some weight on those mountains!
Great to read your comment. I guess that is what I am trying to achieve with these videos. Good to share these landscapes and emotions and every now and then I also enjoy going through them to revive lost memories!
You dared to speak to the camera and that's was great. You should do that more often to make your videos better and better. The narration is a big and important part of a good filming. You can also even add some short interest discussions with locals. It will take your videos to a new level. You speak Spanish and that's great and so helpful on trip in Latin America. Can you add below some words about the safety you felt at this trip. I am talking mainly about chance of robbery and how to minimize the risk. Colombia is a great destination for cycle trip of course and very well famous for that. The only reason I haven't been there yet, is the bad criminal reputation against tourists. And lonely cyclist is the easiest target they can find. Second question: Did you find accommodation for sleeping every evening without any necessity to use tent? Thanks for your answers.
Thanks. Will keep the commentary going then! To your question. My personal experience is that Colombia, like most of the world in fact, is full of nice and kind people and as a country that loves cyclists, touring is mostly safe as far as you don’t go to areas where foreigners can be a target. Boyaca and the Zona Cafetera on the Andes between Bogota and Medellin are known to be some of the safest areas of the country right now. Cities are a different thing and one must be always on the cautious side and follow some common sense advice like avoiding most places at night. Small towns and the countyside in the above areas where I cycled felt really safe. The love of cycling means that traffic behaviour seemed one of the most respectful to cyclists with cars but mostly trucks giving you all the space they can and more. It was the only place where I felt I should not bother carrying a tent as hotels and guest houses are plenty and extremely goid value. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing your latest adventure Gianni, it looked amazing and I really enjoyed the video and the commentary. Shame about the dog bite. It’s happened to me twice and it hurts!
Thanks Lynne, I guess it had to happen... :) I suppose being a small dog I was lucky and it wasn't painful. I was just a little worried about rabies as I didn't have a vaccination. Where did you get your two bites I wonder??? Turkey had massive dogs and I would always stop there because one of those biting my leg would have been another thing...
@@BromptonTraveler Both in the Uk so rabies not an issue thankfully. I had to have tetanus shot though. Both times I was walking not cycling. It was good to see your avoidance tactic in case it happens on a bike!
@@lynnef4228 I was being lazy there, that is why it happened. In Turkey I would always stop as it is the safest way not to get bitten. A new tip I heard is bringing dog food along.... :)
Hi Gianni…..another wonderful clip. I notice on your clips that there is an electronic device mounted on the bars beside the handlebar stem. It appears to have a digital display. When you have a moment to spare I’d l appreciate it if you would tell me what it is. Thanks in advance.
Hi, your content is very enjoyable. My humble suggestion will be if you use the insta360 x3 camera for shooting, your content visual quality will increase a lot, my love.
Thanks. I did look at the 360 out of curiosity but I feel it takes too much time in editing compared to a GoPro for example. I have recently started using a drone which is also time consuming and when traveling by bike I like filming in a way that doesn't become too intrusive into the cycling itself which is the main part and what I want to enjoy. I agree that images they produce are nice and interesting with the 360 perspective. Maybe one day...
Hi Gianni, I am huge fan of your videos. I am travelling as well since many years around the world on a bike Friday and consider your videos as an inspiration for my next trips. Could you share your route planning or gpx files with us ? Are you on Komoot ? All the best and keep cycling ;)
Thanks Marius. I don't use Komoot, I download offline maps to MapOut on my iPhone and use those for navigating. Saying that I do have .kml files of the Bogota to Medellin section which is hard with lots of mountains and hardly any flat but it is a wonderful ride. If you would like them go to www.bromptontraveler.com and on the left column a little lower on the page you will find a contact form. If I get your email I will send them to you. Cheers.
Thanks for all your great videos! Sorry about your dog bite ! Would you trust the new Brompton four speed external cog bikes for your tours? That derailleur looks suspect.
Sorry Gary but I have no experience with it... Actually didn't even know it exist! :) I had a video in the past complaining about gear shifters being and feeling cheap on the Brompton. I still feel it is the only downside to an otherwise very simple but sturdy gear system. One thing I can probably say is that 4 speeds will be even more limiting on gear range than the reduced 6 gears I use. I don't mind the odd walk if grades are brutal but I find 6 is a bare minimum to have when touring? Cheers
@@BromptonTraveler Cheers on your great Columbia ride! From a video distance, these new Bromptons seem rather fragile and I think they don’t have the lower gear range that you would need especially climbing 9600+ m . with all your packed gear.
Ciao
Hi Stephen. I have quite a few videos on the channel going into the details of your question. Briefly I use a Dimpa bag for bike and all things I can't bring on board the airplane and my backpack with all the rest comes with me. Cheers
I mostly use MapOut which is an Ios app I love as it allows to quickly build a route on the go by drawing it on the phone screen and it shows elevation profiles too which are handy when cycling. I download maps offline so that I can follow them using the gps signal. Computer is a simple cateye wireless. Cheers
I don't remember night riding in Colombia. I try not to ride at night as much as possible but sometimes it can be a good option depending on traffic and if you have a good set of lights.
Hola Luis! ¡Me encantaría hacer El Camino algún día seguro! Ciao
A list of music credits would be nice. Also, I detect a slight note of an Irish accent when you speak. Did you perhaps learn some of your English in Ireland? ;-)
I have had requests about music in the past... Maybe I should! I use Epidemic Sounds which is a paid service and allows to use songs on social media. I hope they reward their artists accordingly and often find some very nice surprises and excellent music there. For an Italian to hear that I have an Irish accent is a great compliment! There must be something to it as I heard that a couple of times before! Funny thing is that I have never visited Ireland. I think it is rather a happy accident of badly speaking a few languages :)
@@BromptonTraveler Your English is fine, and your Spanish, too, by the sound of it. It would definitely be nice to have some information about the artists who performed the music. Keep up the good work. Happy pedaling! ;-)
Spooky. Today I have released my ultrasonic dog scarer and it seems that it worked because those who approached me when I activated it moved away. Greetings and take care.
@@BromptonTraveler I have tried to answer your question twice with a link to the page where I bought the device but for some reason it doesn't show up. It's called Dazer III. I hope you can find it on the internet. Greetings and I hope you don't have any more unpleasant experiences.

So, this guy did Alto de Letras in a Brompton?!?!?!
A BIG WOW!!!!!
He did not break any speed records doing it!
Obrigado!
Thank you for the wonderful work. I feel like I am in this adventure with you.
Great to hear! Thanks 🙏
Great video! Very surprised to see you touring my country, made me nostalgic about the landscape and people. Traveling up and down the Andes from Bogota to the Caribbean or to Cali by land by car few times is part of my best memories of that country. Congratulations!
Wonderful country and people. Hope it will get safer and safer so that more get a chance to visit.
Thanks!
Hi....@@BromptonTraveler
Excellent...!!!
Man I LOVE these adventures, awesome work, love the drone footage. Sorry about the dog situation, glad it wasn’t worse. Be safe and ride on. 👍🏼👍🏼
Drone needs lots more practice and time but am slowly learning…Dog bite turned out to be minor and taught me to not be complacent 😅
Brilliant video Gianni. Enjoyed your commentaries. Giving an extra dimension to the travel in Columbia. Keep up the adventures !!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Will keep those commentaries going in future videos then! Thanks a lot :)
It's COLOMBIA not Columbia that's in Canada.
One of your best videos...the commentary added a lot. Columbia looks beautiful! And especially liked the music track coming out of Bogota. 🙂
Cheers
@@BromptonTraveler Thanks for the song info. A new artist to follow. 🙂
Awesome video Gianni…I hope your next adventure will be in the Philippines
Many thanks! Hope to make it one day. I hear it is a fantastic place with amazing islands.
Hey Gianni,
Another great movie 👏,really liked the additional narrative as you went along 👌.
The follow along drone was very cool also,it’s a country i know little about and you have opened my eyes to.I always look forward to your adventures on RUclips and thanks again for sharing your experiences 👍🚴♀️
Keep it up,and hopefully your wounds are now healed.David.
Happy you enjoyed it David! Thanks for the comment and will keep adding more commentaries in future travels. Dog bite turned out to be not too concerning and was really glad to complete the tour despite that! Cheers
@@BromptonTraveler Good to hear 👍,much respect ✊
Absolutely brilliant Gianni 👌
Most appreciated. Thanks
:-)) Ciao!
Grazie mille. Concordo!
Bellissimo video (ed esperienza suppongo) come sempre.
Grazie mille! Saluti
Wow, another awesome video, thanks mate!!
Very welcome! Cheers
@@BromptonTraveler Cheers!
Ciao!
Do it anti clockwise if you can, most people do it clockwise which means more traffic in your direction.
Been waiting for your new trip for quite a while. Sorry about your incident with the dogs.
Me too! Dogs accident was not major in the end!
The white houses & cobblestone streets remind me of Girón, which is near Bucaramanga. Northern Colombia, about four hours away from the coast, and also about the same distance from Venezuela.
Hi John. Barichara and also Villa de Leyva as you probably know, are not that far from Bucaramanga. Beautiful old towns to visit. Thanks.
thank you
You’re welcome
yes 🙌 new video!!!! wow nice introduction while on…. 😊
Thanks!!!
I love your videos, it makes me feel like I am there with you on an amazing adventure. 👍
Cheers.
It's very optimistic comment, and it certainly encouraged me to visit Colombia. THANKS
Thanks!
Most generous! Thanks a lot.
I can only imagine it must be my odometer? I have a plastic attachment that attaches on the handlebar stem and that sits over it. Thanks!
@@BromptonTraveler got it! Thanks!
@@BromptonTraveler The editing part may seem complicated at first, but you can solve it with 1-2 days of training. Easier than traveling the world 🙂
It is been a long time since I watch your video.
Traveling is not full time at the moment!
Cheers.
Saluti
@@BromptonTraveler grazie,buone avventure!!
Just got your book! Can’t wait for it to come. Which brompton do you ride and what is the handlebar?
Thanks a lot and hope you will like it. I use a standard M-type handlebar Brompton with 6 reduced gears. Cheers!
Very lovely.
Thank you! 😊Happy you enjoyed it.
Ciao
Gianni, on a trip like this, over the Atlantic for you, how are you traveling with, i.e., packing your Brompton? Thanks.
Hi Stephen. I have quite a few videos on the channel going into the details of your question. Briefly I use a Dimpa bag for bike and all things I can't bring on board the airplane and my backpack with all the rest comes with me. Cheers
If possible I like to know how many bicycles have you used in your travels till now? Thank you.
On my second Brompton now which I bout three years ago. First one was still fine after seven years. Sturdy bikes if maintained and cared for.
Fantastic bike for your great adventures. Thanks for the reply.
What do you use for maps/ navigation/ route finding/ and cycle comp?
I mostly use MapOut which is an Ios app I love as it allows to quickly build a route on the go by drawing it on the phone screen and it shows elevation profiles too which are handy when cycling. I download maps offline so that I can follow them using the gps signal. Computer is a simple cateye wireless. Cheers
How could you manage night riding
I don't remember night riding in Colombia. I try not to ride at night as much as possible but sometimes it can be a good option depending on traffic and if you have a good set of lights.
Do you ever go off road on dirt tracks ever on your Crompton?
Yes, have done the roughest part of the Carretera Austral with it. 16" wheels though are not ideal on rough roads.
EPIC
Cheers!
@@BromptonTraveler
Your English is fine, and your Spanish, too, by the sound of it.
It would definitely be nice to have some information about the artists who performed the music.
Keep up the good work.
Happy pedaling!

Spooky. Today I have released my ultrasonic dog scarer and it seems that it worked because those who approached me when I activated it moved away. Greetings and take care.
Interesting. Is that a product on sale?
@@BromptonTraveler I have tried to answer your question twice with a link to the page where I bought the device but for some reason it doesn't show up. It's called Dazer III. I hope you can find it on the internet. Greetings and I hope you don't have any more unpleasant experiences.
