If you are tired of monkeying with it these iPads are a great deal: amzn.to/3PMnHMM
NOTE: I found clear packing tape worked better than electrical tape because it is a little thinner. And the measurements of the tape do not need to be precise as long as it is not too wide to fit in the slot. Finally, after about six months the tape fell out. I only noticed because my iPad stopped charging again. I just popped in a new piece of tape and it's as good as new.
NOTE2: If a single layer of tape does not work, try adding a second layer. I had to to use two layers of packing tape on my iPad 2. Now it charges perfectly!
Does your charger cut in and out when you try to charge your iPhone or iPad? This video will show you how to fix it!
Are you having a problem charging your iPad or iPhone with the Lightning connector? The Lightning connector is the one used on newer iPhones starting with the iPhone 5 and fourth-generation iPads right up through the current models. Does the charging activity start and stop when you wiggle the wire indicating that the connection is a little loose? If so this video offers a free easy-to-do solution.
First, especially with iPhones that spend a lot of time in linty pockets or purses, make certain that there is no lint or dirt inside the little hole where you plug in the charging wire. Try blowing into the hole or very gently fishing around inside it with a toothpick or plastic twist-tie to remove any collected foreign matter. You can also inspect the hole with a flashlight and a strong pair of eyeglasses or a magnifying glass to see if it is clear of dirt or obstructions.
If this first step did not solve your problem - and it didn’t solve mine - here’s what to do next. We are going to make the connection a little tighter by inserting a small piece of tape into the Lightning charging female connector hole on your iPad or iPhone to make it just a little more snug. I used electrical tape but you can try another kind. Scotch tape or a thin clear package tape might work just as well.
Remove the case if you have one on your device. Cut a tiny rectangular piece of tape about half an inch or one and one quarter centimeters long and just under one quarter inch - about half a centimeter - wide. It needs to be narrow enough to slide into the charging slot without hitting the sides. With your device face down on the edge of a table with the charging port facing towards you place the tape sticky side down lengthwise into the hole about one quarter inch. Wrap the quarter inch of tape that remains outside the hole around curved edge of your device down towards the screen. Use either the Lightning connector or a small paper clip or something similar to press the tape down inside the hole so that it is sticking to the screen-side of the charging receptacle. Then gently insert the Lightning connector all the way in to make sure it fits snugly but not too snugly and also make sure that when you insert it the tape is not being pulled completely inside and bunching up.
My iPad now charges completely without cutting in and out every time. I hope this video solved your problem too! Note: if you click on an affiliate link I someimes earn a few cents. Thank you!
You are the first person to address a solution, other than cleaning the port! Yes, this worked, thanks

This problem actually started on my iphone 6 after i tried cleaning with a toothpick..
Clessed - just happened to me it’s so loose it gets annoying my phone be dying 24/7
Omg same please tell me you know how to fix it?
thatsnotsayingmuch I just had to buy a new phone cuz it was too much of a problem if u got the money buy a phone 💯🤙🏽
Same I need help becoz I'm a broke kid
@@shairmanesoria3649 I’m a broke 40yo and still need help.
I couldn’t find what to do when there was no dirt on the port but the connection still was loose anywhere but here. It may not be as “permanent” as I would it to be, but it’s a big noticeable difference with no cost. Electric tape was a bit too thick, but the clear one worked wonders. Now I actually have to try a bit to unplug it rather than accidentally unplug it every minute. Big thank you.
3 pieces of scotch tape and you’ve saved me $1099 plus $125 gen 2 pen (bc gen 1 pen doesn’t work with new iPads) plus tax plus the time of setting it all up! Wish all 765K viewers you’ve had on this video could send you $1 or more each!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU 🤩
So after my iPad was still charging fine yesterday before I unplugged it, this morning it just wouldn't charge at all. I tried resetting it and cleaning out the port, I have to say that the lightning cable do feel like there's some play when plugged into my new iPad compared to when it's plugged into my old iPad 4, so trying your piece of tape method is now going to be my last attempt fixing it before admitting defeat and traveling to take my frustration out at an Apple Store. If it works I guarantee to be your newest and most loyal subscriber because you would have saved me a trip of over 400 miles.. So wish me luck, and hopefully I'll be your most loyal follower very soon!!
Did it work 👁 👄 👁 ❓
Nope, my port seem completely dead, waiting to hear what Apple says about it
Thank you so so so much I had school the next day and needed a charged iPad u saved my life!
thank you, saved me $1000 to buy a new iPhone. the tape worked for me.
The Electrical tape was too tight, didn’t work for me : / BUT two layers of scotch tape works like a charm!!! I did not know that iPads and iPhones only charge on the bottom side of the port, so it’s okay to cover the front/glass side like you explained. Can’t thank you enough!!!!!!!!!
😢I got disheartened after 1 slice of tape ,so i added another slice & there is a connection.
😊Thank you for the tip!
The electrical tape just worked for me..it pulled out a big piece of lint..phone start back charging..thanks much
Thank you so much! This happened for a year 😂
Thank you so much you saved my life I liked this video and I’m now subscribed to you
What about if my charger only charges in a certain angle?
yup that what the tape fixes!
@@carlpugh3793 really?
My old charging cable was working perfectly but I had decided to replace it cuz it became worn out outside
The new one was functioning very well. I had to unplug it and plug it again several times to complete the charging and it gives me (NOT CHARGING) next to battery symbol
Genius! just genius!!.
Just wanna say you are a great person and awesome too👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Can you do one for kids??
I notice that there is a very small amount of dirt/ lint on the bottom of my charger port! I'll try this but what if the electrical tape starts to like die out? How do you get it out.
First step in the video is to clean out any lint in your charging port. Also described is how to prepare the tape so that you can always pull it out. And in the highly unlikely even it does get stuck in there you can always fish it out with a paperclip.
Thank you Carl! It solved my problem.
Amazing, worked like a charm! Fixed two iPads that weren’t connecting to charge.
It worked...Awesome!!!
Don’t ignore the first step! I had a whole lot of debris sitting in my charging port creating an illusion of it being lose. So make sure you clean out your port properly before trying anything else.
It would also help for the port to be clean before attempting to attach tape.
Thanks Mc👍....that worked for me...no tape required. Getting a lightning port replaced is not worth the cost IMO.
Success! Thank you!
Thxxxxx this helps me so much
The fact that the tape thing worked is so sad, such an expensive device shouldn’t have such a problem
honestly my problem came from the charger itself degrading over time till it couldn't fit
@@Asdas9511 mine can move so much. stupid
Fr tho I should have keep my android
Even cheap android Chargers work better then an expensive i phone one.
So true I’ve gone through 2 iPads already because of this problem
I just want to add that this worked for me! I have been bending my charge cord for months to get a good connection for my ipad to charge and I was about to pay to get it fixed until I finally found your video today. You are the best! Cheap packing tape is a lot less expensive than going to a repair place.
I am convinced that my iPad brought me here by itself.
It was a cry for help.
Thanks very much!
🤣🤣🤣
bro thank you so much, this is an ipad pro, the newest one, and it has a TERRIBLE loose charger port, and this helped out so much. tysm bro, ur a life savior.
@@TheUglyGooseling Wow… very surprising to hear about a newer iPad having this problem! Glad the fix worked.
@@CarlPugh update: the first time didn’t work, and just recently i tried to fix it but i put tape over ALL the sides, top, bottom, left, and right. the problem is that it has a VERY TERRIBLE loose cable, like, it didn’t charge at all. and even now with it taped up (every spot/hole) its still not 100% fixed, more like 85%. but seriously though, thanks. i heard its around 100$ - 300$ to get it replaced, and thats a lot.
Lifesaver of a tip- thank you so much for sharing! This is my second time watching this video to fix my phone. I used the electrical tape this time and it works even better. ❤️
Bruh I had a whole pop tart in there. Thanks 😂
I pulled a small sheep out of mine lol
I pulled out a t rex
I pulled out my mom
Mine had a dog in it
Dang I had a whole party size of Oreos in there
Had the same issue on our son's iPad air and my Iphone 6S Plus, was considering replacing the lightning port myself on the iPhone and having our son's done professionally as they are harder and the iPad connection was much more loose, 4 pieces of scotch tape later both charging up and no more loose connection! What a great time and money saving tip! Liked and Subscribed.
A consumer paying $999.00 for a product shouldn’t have to put electrical tape in the product because it’s worn out. Apple products are designed to fail, and the repair costs are close to or exceed the replacement costs. Loyal users will almost always opt for the newer model. Which are released at least annually.
After 35 years we're back to blowing into the 21st century version of the Nintendo Entertainment System.
😝😂🤣
Nailed it. This completely fixed my charging issues on my iPhone 8.
Ben Hill would the charger be lose and would take off easily too?
Jose Jimenez, that’s how it was for me. I used packing tape and that was all it needed; very small piece
I got it, I appreciate it tho

U just saved my whole phone with the tape thing honestly it was becoming a real problem. Every time the wire or phone was even touched it would go crazy with the charging because of the wiggling but the tape is working great 👍
Same.
IT REALLY DID, THX!
I couldn’t even breath within 3 feet of my iPhone 8 & Wire 😂..
Holy hell that last trick just bought me a week until I can go get it replaced thanks man
Was about to give up on my phone, charging point was full of lint since it was in my pocket all the time. Did not know lint could get in until I saw your video and cleaned my charging point with a toothpick and it did the trick. Sir, you are an Angel. Thank you very much for your help.
I have a bunch of Apple products including my 7 year old 10.5 inch iPad Pro which I’ll probably be trading in and get my hundred dollars from Apple after purchasing new iPad Air 13 inch. My experience has been by the time the lightning port gets this bad you might as well replace the whole thing because the battery is probably getting pretty worn out. Apple usually drops trade in value rather quickly after a new product launch.
THANK YOU GOD BLESS YOU. Who else considered replacing the part yourself before seeing this video? GOD BLESS YOU
ayotiM it still won’t work
@@muneerhamedi1013 thats unfortunate. works fine for me
@@muneerhamedi1013 if it still doesn’t work the pins in ur charging port are probably bent. U would need to take it to apple to fix that.
does the tape technique work on my problem? The thing is, the cable my Ipad needs to be plugged in and out plenty of times before i could get a good charging sign. Sometimes it would be instant and sometimes it would take ages of pull ou pull in. If i move the cable around it still charges. Hoping you cab find a fix for my problem as well.
Same problem
This should fix your problem. But even if it doesn't there is no harm in trying. You can simply pull the tape back out.
Step 1: have tape
Thanks! I am fixing an iPad with this issue and I think it is an Apple refurbished model. It seems Apple may use your same technique. At first I was using some tools to remove the debris in the port. Then a black plastic looking piece started to come out. it was pretty big but seemed to disintegrate when i pulled on it. So i removed it. Now I am thinking that is what they used to try to make it more snug! The side clips now work to "snap" it in, but there is still a lot of play up and down. The tape should solve that.
Bruh I was just about to take my phone into a repair shop or something but then I saw this video I was like theres no way some lint got into there. Two seconds later and here I am to testify I took out a good sized piece of lint and my phone is charging perfectly fine again. Thank you so much lol
Hello can you please make a real video of you doing it cause it’s hard just looking st the pictures it’ll be more simple if I show it o video I found a simpler way actually just tape the power charging cord and plug it in and it works
I must say this guy is a legend! Used a clear tape and it didn’t work. I added two additional layers and finally it works! Thanks a lot Sir! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Those dislikes are Apple employees
Excited to try this, thanks for the tip! My 6s barely charges anymore without jiggling it around, and putting pressure on the cable in a particular position, the cable just falls out when upright. I even cleaned it and I’m using a legit apple lightning cable.
I’ve tried all but my iPad still doesn’t charge with any charger no matter if they are old of new
Thank u so much this helped out a lot I’m subscribing right now please go and sub to him he needs a lot of support 👍❤️
“Try blowing in the hole, or fishing around inside it”
“Going to make it tighter by inserting tape in the female hole” WHAT
Butt sex
THANK YOU THANK YOU MY IPAD IS FIX :D I’m a teen XD and I’m still scared of my mom cause she gave it to me and it was 800 so yeah xD

Mani Wilkins 🤨 kid you’re hilarious im laughing sooo damn hard 😐
I just got my iPad Pro in April. Has a partial panic attack lol
Thanks.. worked like a charm.. the only RUclips video that actually worked
Thanks I just needed to clean da dirt put of it and it was fixed and we could not affords to fix it again THANKS THANKS A MILLION TIMES
Thank you sooooooo much for this! Every iPad I have ever had has eventually developed this issue, and my son has actually replaced the complete iPad for me more than once. I wish I had known about this years ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ✌️🍾
I have to wiggle my charging cable to extreme lengths to just make it charge it’s very frustrating because it won’t always work in the same way I did before and if I accidentally touch it or move it, it will stop charging
Try the tape!
So i messed up with the tape and it popped out, but when it came out, a big piece of lint came out the port and now it works fine. The biggest thing is to make sure the hole is clean
My lightning port was becoming really lose and become a pretty bog problem, the tape definitely fixed it for now, i would have never thought of that, thank you 💯 😂
Sir i push changer pin in the hole. Tape is going the hole
Thx what it did before was it was charging but it was going low like I was charging it
It was 25% it was charging and it went on 15% help meh
Thanks you so much its very helpful I watched this video after five years but thanks you so much your the best❤🎉
Thank you so much for showing this brilliant idea! I was not sure what to do as I didn't want to spend $90 to have the charger port replaced. Before this video I watched someone change the port themselves but with so much to take apart it seemed difficult and then I came across your video. I put electrical tape and bam my phone is charging perfectly thank you again!!!
I would always blame the charger but after figuring out what the issue was, I just started apologising to my charger 😭
fixed my iphone 6 charging port... This is some macgyver shit here... Thanks!
Mega Color 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks, Carl. I did not want to use tape to fix the problem, so I thoroughly cleaned the charging slot with a toothbrush. I put sanitizer on the toothbrush (because I knew it would evaporate fast, thus not causing water damage). I could see the gunk on the toothbrush and cleaned it off with toilet pape. Voila! No more charging problems. Hope this helps others.
Thank you, works much better now. Such an easy fix to extend the life of an iPad, without bringing it to the $hop.
mine still didn’t work
Oh my gosh thankyou you're a life saver the tape trick worked!
Omg thank you so much! Your a legend!
Lol. I was so skeptical this would work.
My chargers port looks burnt inside.
I used the tape, ipad screen lit up first try! 😳👏💯
Thanks for the idea!
Fuck yeah. I've had this problem for a month now.
Googled, tried a fair share of forums, tried holding the charger at an angle (that got old quick), tried cleaning, tried "activating" the gold strips with a graphite pencil and then rubbing some off. Finally I tried taping the phone in place and using a rubber band to hold it at an angle - but nothing!
After all that I watched this video. I mean fuck it, I've tried everything else.
Went in again and looked closer than ever before with a magnifying glass and a strong small flashlight. And what do you know.
At the very bottom there was a FAT layer of dust that was almost inconceivable. So thick that I'd assumed it was the bottom of the hole, because I had scraped before but that had not moved.
So, I severed a match to like a quarter its size and went in there.
Final results - the phone is charging, I feel a little bit smarter and also realize that I'm dumb for not getting it straightaway and have a collection of dust from the charging port that can fill up my bellybutton to the brim.
Thanks!
I know this was 2 years ago but..THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS HELPED ME MORE THAN I EXPECTED ❤️
Omg ty I will do it my ipad is charging I’ll do it after it charges but then it stops because the charger is wobbly
This worked so well! Used a glasses lens cleaning alcohol wipe on the end of the paper clip to dissolve some of the funk that had built up. Now the charger sticks in the port like new!
I. Have a problem, my charger goes in fine but my iPhone 7 headphones don’t ? They are the exact same size, any idea how to fix it
The tape fix actually works 😮 you my friend are a genius 👍🏼
Thank you so much this helped me a lot and save me a lot of money.....🥺🙏🏾
Bless you for this! No longer will my family be driven mad by the unending bloops of my iPhone charger disconnecting and reconnecting.😭 ❤️
TIP! Depending on the brand you might want to steer away from electrical tape. I first used Scotch Super 33+ but it left a lot of adhesive gunk behind and pulled out as soon as I put the case back on. 😓 Regular clear tape worked fine, ironically.
Scotch Super33 is extra stretchy and sticky rubber resin -PVC tape....excellent for high voltage electrical work, and self-sealing connections, but cheap “vinyl” electrical is “stiffer” and usually less sticky.

What an awesome advice this was..Thank you so much, for a year I was having trouble with the charging...I could have never imagined that there would be so much dirt in the port that it would make a layer inside to make the charger loose...the toothpick advice worked like a charm..it feels like new now..Thanks man for this video.
Before: I’m gonna try it now
Update: I tried it but it didn’t work, I think i did something wrong but yeah
Lol my ipad started charging when i was seeing this video.....thank god
Apple gon find out about this and charge you $15 to buy the apple brand of tape just for this hack 😒
It didn't work for me I follow your steps and it didn't charge and I'm using my mum and if I break her changer I'm dead soo please help me please

Bahaha. She's going to kick your ass.
How are you now
Hi!!! Thanks alot for sharing this tips!! Really working on me!!!
God bless!!!
Amazing, worked perfectly on my iPhone 7 which used to need to charge at different angles and would only work with certain cables (official cables tried) thanks for this 👌🏾🤟🏽
I have tape stuck inside my phone and my phone is 10% help
same omfg
Thanks so much!! I was ready to throw phone my against a wall because it wouldn't charge!! I bought new cables, still no luck, I would spend 20 minutes wiggling the cable hoping it would charge. I ended up buying an alarm clock because my phone was dead the next morning. I was nearly late to work. The problem, DIRT!!! just like you said :-p

Great Video On iPhone Repair. It's nice to see a good POV to further my knowledge
Thank you so much!! My iPad has been doing this so much to the point where I have the constant fear that it’s just going to stop charging at all, but thanks to trying both of these tricks, my iPad is back up and charging normal again. My iPhone has bot gotten this problem yet and if it does, I know where to come!! Thank you so much. But I do have one question though; would it be best to change out the tape every week or so? At least my problem is solved until I can get a new device to replace this old one I’ve been using for about 6 years now. Thanks again!
