Respect to this guy for telling everyone sorry for making this 10 minutes.
Just being real. I appreciate my viewers. I guess I drug this one out too much it happens. I just try to improve with every video
Just say it was a presentation for a class that had to be 10 min long lol

....ya know 10 minits is the magic tiiime for YT.....
Watch at 1.75 speed 😉
Very useful! After 40 years in IT, I'd never have thought of this on my own, but of course, that's how micro USB plugs *have to* work. Thank you!!
Thank you! I'm glad it helped.
Thanks for making this video. I was getting sick and tired of buying new cords. I didn't have a screwdriver that small so I decided to use a needle instead. It worked just the same.
64 yr old woman fixed two long cables that I didn't have to throw out. Thank you. They weren't cheap and I was frustrated that they weren't staying locked in place.
While the video is about 7 minutes too long, very useful information and it has allowed me to fix 4 cables I thought i would have to trash. Thumbs-up excellent tutorial!
And this is how you stretch a 2 min video into 10..
You gotta get the revenue somehow
Needlessly.........

😂
Thanks for the tip, worked like a charm. Fixed 3 cables that still look like new but were loose.. they lock in nice and tight now!
Yes it works to restore a solid connection again. Going to do this to all my cords. For those complaining about the length of the video or how long it took for him to show the actual fix, get over yourself already. There world doesn't revolve around you and your precious few minutes. The fix works so just move on but I'm betting you can't.
I was going to go off also.Good shit brother!!!!
Thank you
Thanks for your comment. It's always nice to hear good feedback.
thanks man, it just took too long before the tutorial started
Sorry, I didn't mean to hold you up

@@TrentPierceProjects I really appreciate your help with this, but the wait was agonizing. Nobody has patience anymore...lol, sorry.

You could edit the original, cutting chaff and holding down the plug end in a bench vise to minimize movement that foils the fix.
WONDERFUL !
After so much twaddle from you tubers telling us we have to reinforce the cable, or shove bits of soft plastic into the port, to clean it.
So satisfying now, to discover someone who knows what he's talking about.
BIG TA !
In used a pair of finger nail clippers to grab the edge and pull out ward. worked well. Thanks for the tutorial
Thank you for watching!
Oh ya, good idea, thanks for the idea dude😉
After trying screwdriver, tweezers, safety pin, box cutter, and sewing needle, nail cutters worked Instantly! Brilliant!! Thank you so so much!
to short phrase this:
Make sure the cable isn't plugged into a power source and get something like a sewing needle and lift up the prongs on the charger. Go to 5:24 to see what I'm talking about. I just saved you 10 minutes :)
Sewing needle was a good idea. Thanks.
A sewing needle is what I used too and it worked a treat.
Thx
I used it and it works !!! Thank you so much for this ❤️
Hi
thank you this was so helpful I have been tossing out my old ones cause of this exact problem and buying new ones. I have spent I don't know how much money now I can just do this and save hundreds. I am so glad I came across your video. you are a money saver.
Fantastic video, I do not mind the wait at all because you were taking the time to explain everything. This helped me a lot man, much appreciated!
Thanks very much for this video, now my cable fits securely -- this in combination with picking the dust out with a toothpick did the trick! One tip for those trying to get the dust out -- i picked out dust a couple of weeks ago but the dust can be pretty tightly compacted -- that's why it's best to use a toothpick. Just understand that you may not see fluffballs of dust yet there is still dust in that port!
Thank you! I'm glad it helped.
I just went through this same task without the benefit of this video. My old cables were so old and worn that I didn't even see the prongs you lifted. My observation was that the fit was loose and I blamed it on the female port. So I used a small paring knife to pry the top of the port in the phone down, making the cave shorter. I previously tried the lint removal fix but I didn't remove the battery which for a technician (me) was not wise but nothing shorted. After your video I wound up prying up the tips of the flanges and I've got a good connection. Thanks for telling a shortcuts old timer like me your soultions. It would also help if I didn't leave my phone/tablets on the floor while charging, then stepping on them.
I literally took a safety pin to it and pulled them out in five seconds! Thank you!!!! XD
No no no. Don't stick metal into an electric port. To easy to do damage. Plastic won't hurt anything like metal will.
Maybe an unconnected plug, but not into the phone jack.
Me too dude. I can now use it.
@@randywl8925 those prongs ar not part of the data or electric circuit so it should be fine to use a metal prying tool, so long as you dont use to much force, but I agree it would not be wise to have the chord plugged into a power source as you work on it

Don't take apart microwaves folks they contain a high voltage capacitor that could kill you even though the microwave is disonnected/ unplugged just for future reference lol
Im sorry but im just a "fast-forward" kind of gal. The real action starts at 6:25. It's good stuff and it's a real godsend. Thanks so much.
I want to complain about a FREE instructional video that showed me something I couldn't figure out on my own because I'm a miserable person

I can't please everyone, but I appreciate positive comments like yours. Thank you for the support!
Hero right here 😂😂 I was so mad that a top comment was negative
😂
LOL the nerve! Thank God I didn't post the video of me rewiring s ceiling fan- it was a solid 20min. I'd be crucified.
I used the tip of a cutter with complete precaution that it does not slip and hurt your fingers which worked much better than a screw driver which kept slipping all the time. Thank you for the solution.
Fantastic video. It helps to see, physically, how the plug functions. I had an extra cable lying around so I tested it and, sure enough, the "prongs" on the old cable were worn. The new one snapped right into place. Thanks so much!
I have searched this thing but didn't find anything about these clips... So weird that it came out to my front randomly 3 years after my search... Thank you.
Thank you for watching
You just saved me like $10 man, thank you very much XD
I'll tell you - people just don't have much patience these days. Don't mind the naysayers. Great video - I just repaired two cables that I've replaced. Now I've got three good ones.

Listen Pasha: you can up the video speed via the settings/playback speed. From 1.25 to 2 x. Save yourself some perceived agony. Duh.
Dude... Respect this guy man although the vid long but at least he showed the hack we all needed
Your vid made me examine usb micro cords that had gotten torqued heavily (kicking the cord by accident and jerking out of phone) and i did discover when the outer shell was bent in a 'nose-down' position from horizontal, almost all had their lock-blades "submerged"
- zero-tools fix for me was, to grip the plug and gently press downward at an angle against the table, bending the shell back straight enough to "re-expose" the lock-blades.
I didn't realize before this, that the lock-blades were usually attached to an inner structure and not the shell itself.
thank you SO much!!! i just fixed three cords in about five minutes!!!
So without TALKING... no googling, no indications whatsoever, Just me twisting a cable in my ps4 controller last night... Now this video is recommended... I want the AI to know, I fixed that already with my own hands/mind!
Somehow the algorithm is always watching 👀
Trent Its known... Angelfire and the Keystone... A CIA program hidden that constantly reloads the other programs.
Google knows it does this... It tried to block an account I made just for naming it Keystone.Angelfire .
The programs bypass everything else to deliver microphone/camera feeds (the ones you dont see in the phone) as well as keystrokes.
The prong tip was so helpful!!!! I looked at my others chargers and found the one with the best prong and it was loose and it hold my phone up in the air..
Thanks! It worked very well....my phone wears out chargers in about 1 month.
Thanks ! I was able to get my charger cable fixed. I drive a truck across the country and charger cables in a truck stop are expensive. Thanks again for saving me $15.-$20.
I used a safety pin to pry it up. It works. I don't have any other tool fine enough to do the job. Appreciate it. Thanks
Aha! Thanks.
I couldn't find a piers like u had. I used a sewing needle with success in 2 minutes. Thank u for your time. Great instructions to save a buck.
Thanks much. I am a brilliant 🙃 tech with many cables like that and haven't bothered figuring out what you just showed me.
Well you may be a tech but you sure aren't brilliant
The 806 dislikes are from people who would rather waste money and keep buying new cords rather than taking hints from the video
You should definitely consider doing a re-do of this video in a 2-minute version, I'm sure it would blow up 😁

Ofc,
Keep up the good work!
This is one way of doing it. But the main issue often are not this little metal hooks bending in, most often the metal of the actual plug bending down, without the hooks bending with it. Use a small pincer or pliers (sorry I do not know the proper English word for it, so maybe it sounds funny for you) that fits between the hooks, so it won't bend the hooks, and gently bend it back in position. Works for me and is fast.
Repair a good cable is worth doin it. Most don't know, but a bad quality cable could be the reason, why your phone is charging slowly or not charging at all, same for data transfer.
Exactly. You should always pay attention to quality when it comes to electronics and accessories. Sure you can probly find a cable for $2 that's 10 feet long so seems awesome but the metal is gonna be cheap as fuck and will wear out incredibly fast. But companies don't care cuz they know ppl are always lookin to save a dollar so they'll buy em anyways.
Thanks for this tutorial. I drive a lot and charge phone in car. Cable is so loose that it won't stay in. This video helped me and now the cable is tight and locks perfectly.
*Thank you so much!* I found that a sewing needle and a pair of pliers (to hold the needle) also works!
hi tech minded! i just want to say thank you for this info, iam still a kid that's still depending on my parents money, so now my charger I don't need to buy a new one! thank you so much! support from Malaysia!
You're very welcome! Hope you are doing well. Have a good day!
Great video! Cant wait to finish work and go home to fix all my other 'broken' cables!
Thanks for the video. I've discarded several USB cables in the past -- one, just two days ago. It cost almost $20.00 .
Thanks again
It worked! No more kids swapping my cable or buying a cable every two months!
dwnsouthtx210 saved several cables in my house once I discovered this too
Thank you so much!! I fixed my charger with a crochet needle. The hook of it kinda digs down in it and pops it up!! YAY!!! so it excited about this hack. Now, I think about ALLLLL the hundreds of dollars I spent over time buying a charger so often! Thank you soo much!
Very helpful instructions. I woyld be frustrated because it would slip out and stop the charging process, but then I was able to open the mouth of the prong wider which reduced the slippage.
Thank you!! My logitech mic kept chipping out cause I dropped it 2 days ago. Best tutorial ever.
Yup, good stuff, thnx. You can get tiny eyeglass screwdriver sets, also tiny tweezers to help out. Eventually all these connector locks get filled with grime, dust, etc ..... So, a small pressure can of silicone lubricant is also useful to help free up the tags and also clean the prongs ...... Well worth saving the cable. The female socket on the phone needs occasional cleaning also.
Worked like a charm! Can't say it was easy as it seemed there was little to no space to get the tool in there but persistence paid off. I finally used a precision screwdriver set, the smallest one, after a few failed attempts with what tools were convenient, lol. Love that click sound. Thks 🙂
Thank you so much for this !!! I don't need to buy charger again. Real life saver hehe
You're welcome
My mom's old phone was like this, i fixed it but i was loose and she was plauged by charging issues for years. Don't shop with cricket folks.
I had the same idea as you with plastic after other failures. I didnt want to order a replace the port, so fixing it was of great urgency, i do work on my phone sometimes.
I tried some plastic like you did in the video, but it was strong enough to pry the card up. Using a tiny phillips i bent it up, carefully, but enough so it was center and not going to keep getting bent back down again like my mothers. I used the cut like a knife peice of plastic to clear out the port.
Thanks for making the video !

Great job. Your ability to put things into "real life" terms is impressive.
Thank you. It's nice to get positive feedback. I'm glad the video helped you.
Thanks for explaining it.
I used a sharp utility knife with a new blade and it got right under the prong.
I used a safety pin, and it actually worked. So thanks:)
It works!!! Used a cut off safety pin and needle nose pliers.. A regular needle was too thin. Amazing!!!! A hack that really works!!!
Good idea you have mentioned.Thank you for your video.
You can also grind down the little pointy edges (that may have became not so pointy/rounded over the time) on those prongs with something like a nail filer.
Thank you so much now I will never throw away my phone charging cable. YOU ARE A STAR!!!!!!!!!!

Hi whilst I agree your post is way to long for purpose, I actually have this problem and in doing what you have said did not work. However, in a very brilliant way I examined the port and I was totally amazed at the amount of fluff and dirt which is in it, so cleaned it all out, which was a task in itself and behold problem solved. If there is anyone wanting to start a business here's one for you, make a rubber pop in, so this does not happen, a very lucrative deal could be made here. My phone is only 2 years old and the port was so clogged I could not believe it. So I am going to try and clean the other ports as well as I have had a long standing issue with the headphones and it would not surprise me this is the issue too. So you have helped me for sure but someone could make loads of money out of this problem especially as you cannot take phones apart these days easily.
I'm glad you were able to get it worked out. Having dust in your charging port is definitely a problem and so many people don't even realize it until it's too late. It really makes me wonder how many good phones have been thrown away over the years because of a simple problem with a little dust.
@@TrentPierceProjects Yeah your dead right I am going to try and work out a trick using rubber to make some sort of cover inserts, I was so amazed at what was in there. I do not know if there is a micro vac on the market because that maybe worth investing in as well. thanks for your vid though it helped me work this out but as I say I would never have thought it would be dust debris.
Big thumbs up for you. I was amazed how much gunk came out of my Note 5 port. This worked better than bending the prongs, but the two combined have bought my phone back to near new state.
Magnetic USB cable for the win
A tip for those who would want a handy tool for cleaning out the socket:
Use a piece of the transparent plastic used in blister packs. It is very rigid and very thin, which are perfect for what we need. Trim the tip of your tool so it has a little hook at the end so it can easily scoop up the dust between the contacts and the plug's casing. Trim the other end of your tool to be pointy and straight, so you can get at the corners too.
Ya, it worked. For micro-USB I had to go with a sturdy safety pin to pry those tiny little buggers up. I had to dig down pretty aggressively into the plastic insert beneath the groove to get a lever on the hooks. And on the bottom there are two springs you can pry up (very gently) to restore some of the snugness.
Worked very nicely, video could be shorter, but worked non the less.
Thanks! You saved my phone since I don't have any money to buy a new charger 🤗

thank you so much...this happened to my new cable..the cable wasnt even a week old
Same..
I got the idea from watching this video, but I used a sewing needle to to go right into the hole and pry the feet right up. It worked easier than trying to pry from the side with an eyeglass screwdriver. Thanks!
This tutorial is so much appreciated! Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you!
Great solution. Have to say mind, cant wait when all devices start using type C. This inbuilt design fault in micro USB is such a damn chore
Glad I come across this. This as saved me buying a new cable. Keep up the cool idea's.
I've been repairing my own cables since I got my first cell phone. I have found that the very best thing to use is a small set of fingernail clippers. They act like a very precise pair of tweezers that just get down in there and pull it up so easily.
Can u give me more info on how to do this method? Like what position to hold the clippers? I feel like I'm pushing it in more
This REALLY helped me, thx for the video
Tech Minded, Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I used the tip of a fish hook to bend those tabs that get flattened down from .repeated use. i found the smallest Micro screw driver blade usually is 1.5 mm or 1/16 inch too wide to get in there

Well thank you and I hope it worked
It worked but I pulled the 2 prongs on the opposite side up. The ones you showed wouldn't move. My cable was alot newer model I think. Thank you tho wouldnt have even thought of that. Thank you very much! I've been having trouble for weeks. My husband wanted me to get a new cell phone, he said it was the deal inside the cell phone itself. I have trouble buying a new cell phone every couple of years. I don't need a whole bunch of apps. :D
Huge help. Other videos suggested nail clippers which just did not work. I had the tiny screwdriver but found another viewers suggestion of using a strong sewing needle worked the best. Thanks for the fix!

I'm surprised phones haven't went completely wireless yet because I hate these stupid cables. Its 2019
Wireless charging is nice, but I feel like it isn't as fast as it needs to be. The main problem with wireless charging is that you can't use your phone while it charges
