I thought I had to get multiple tools, open my phone, get out the hole USB Port, solder a new one in (with my sausage fingers) and then close the whole thing. And here you are with the tip to just slightly bend the usb cable port, so easy and yet it worked. Thank you a hundred times!
you have no idea how close I came to paying 60$ for a new controller and all I had to do was use nail clippers to pull the prongs up. Thank you so much.
both of my kids xb one controller cables kept coming loose so i did the nail clippers trick an it works perfectly again thanks & thats also why i subbed
Ever since I learned to use plumbers tape to keep the tremolo bar on my guitar in place, I've been using it for everything. If you wrap the head of the connector (Part that goes into the device) with 1 layer of plumbers tape and you make sure to trim the excess and rub any loose strands out of the way of the little hole, it will increase the width of the connector just enough to give you a snug fit in most devices. Removing your device from the charger can tear the tape and leave little bits inside the port in your device (be careful), but It isn't an issue you can't fix with small tweezers.
This was extremely helpful! The prongs on my cable were hidden co deep I couldn't get at them with nailclippers, I had some plumbers tape laying and it fixed my problem. Thanks for the tip
thnaks man i got about 75 bucks in ancor cables all loose ,my eyes are bad i could not do the needle trick .but with in 5 minutes i fixed 4 cables with nail clippers thanks alot :))
wow, score on the very first vid i checked! that was the fastest, easiest fix to a problem i've had in forever- THANKS! tip: when using the nail clippers, position it over the prong and push down with the clippers gently- this very nicely exposed my buried prongs in order to grab with the clippers. magic!
You just saved me from buying another cable. I just watched on another video were the dude fixes the problem with a needle. in short, ended up bending 4 needles and hurting myself in the process lmao. Nail clippers is deffo the better idea. Thanks
Just used this today, worked like a charm. Thanks for saving me some cash man! Something I was able to do (not positive it was the best idea) to make the prongs a bit more grab-able, was to push the whole metal portion of the connector down a bit, it exposes them significantly and makes grabbing them significantly easier if they're really down there! Thanks again
You sir are a legend! I had a proprietary branded mini usb that came with my Headphones that were not seating properly. I rarely used the cable because I like to keep my proprietary cables I get from the manufacture. The pins were a bit sunken in and I needed to clamp the middle so that it would get a more secure connection as instructed in the video and it works flawlessly now. Really appreciate you making this video!
Matt you are genius!!! I was about ready to by a new phone but after I tried the pliers trick OMG my charger stays in no problem!! Thank you so verymuch!!!!
Thanks mate, my phone was not charging with what appeared to be a loose connection, so I just fixed my usb cable using the pliers method and small flathead screwdriver.
Im so grateful. Your inital pull-prongs suggestion didn't work. I was actually trying that before i looked up some sort of hack and found this video. Your crompression on both side suggestion did work, beautifully so Im happy about that. Im not so sure you are saving people alot of money but you are definitely saving alot of people money and time not to mention frustration. Thanks again!
Lol can't believe it worked. I dropped my dualshock 4 while playing PlayStation now and it was connected to the micro USB. And the cable became damaged and lost connection whenever I move to controller. Used nail clipper just like you said and it worked just like it used shaking the DS4 with still solid connection to my laptop. Big thanks for saving me to buy the forth USB.
Thank you very much. I was about to throw my 3rd pair of Logitech h800 wireless headphones out in despair, assuming there was no fix for the loose Micro USB socket. Teasing the pins up with a nail clipper worked a treat. I'd already tried pinching the wide surfaces of the plug a few times. It solved the problem briefly the first time then stopped. It's looking good this time. Thanks again.
In regards to cleaning out your port - I find that dental (soft) picks work really well. They're very small and most have a rubbery/plastic head with tiny bristles or protrusions. They're strong enough to grab all the crud but not so strong that they'll damage anything. If you aren't sure what I am talking about search GUMS dental picks and a picture will come up. Anything like that does a good job for cleaning tiny spaces and they (and other brands like them) are inexpensive and easy to find in grocery stores.
i dont know why people still use micro usb on cheap devices, because usb-c is cheap af, but thanks to the author 7 years later. i was trying to pull them up with everything, but didnt think about nail clipper, that worked perfectly fine for me
Here's what I did ...... I don't know how many Micro USB cables I bought trying to fix my Android phone. I wasn't too crazy about bending the clip on a brand new cable to get it to seat properly, it just didn't seem right to me. I saw another video related to the same problem where a guy makes a plastic cleaner and pries out the dust. In the video he says can air spray won't work because it would be able to clean out a certain area. I filled up my air compressor to 100lbs, shot it into the micro port, I didn't care because I was ready to throw the phone away. Brought back up stairs and the micro USB port connected PERFECT to the phone. Before I did that, no matter how hard I pushed I couldn't get the same exact cable and many others to stay tight and not fall out. After all my RUclips searches and very thankful fixes, I hope I was able to pay back with a small contribution.
When needing a plastic device to clean electronics/controllers I always go to the trusty dental floss picks. They are excellent for getting into areas for cleaning.
The prongs in mine are already in so deep I can't get a grip I was able to push the usb back and tilt it a bit to get the tip of the prongs out thankfully I got a grip of it and with a little bit of tightening... I fixed it :D Thank you, this video helped out
Thanks a lot! I've just read (after an hour of searching) that those two pins are "friction locks". My problem was that I bought a micro USB male adapter that had two immovable "bulges" jutted on the metal sheath (I don't know how to call them, maybe bumps, nobs, or ledges) , instead of springy locks/pins. So, nothing would fix them. I recommend to be attentive when buying such things =)
Holy shit. This actually worked. I was about to buy 5 of these f***ing cables because of how many I've had die on me in the past. Nail clipper trick worked like an absolute charm. Where can I donate to you? Or should I just buy a future product off your site? :)
BRILLIANT!!!! that was just the help i needed,,, thank you so much ive thrown out expensive cables. For nothing I just fixed a good one i was about to replace
Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge dude. I can definitely see this coming in handy in the future. Just doctored up both of my micro-USB cables and every fits snugly again.
I want to thank you sir I haven't even tried it but I have a Feeling this video is going to help me which I need help because I literally Buy 5 new cables every year
Any idea why the port in my xbox controller wouldnt be working? i was sure that adjusting the usb input and cleaning it like you did would work but cant seem to fix er.
1:42 worked... only after 2 uses then went back 4:10 worked... yeah it worked but the downside is that it is still wobbly but I’ll take it cause it’s still a lot better
thanks man, i just bought a brand new usb cable for the ps4 controller and it was disconnecting everytime i moved it just a bit lol, the clipper tip made fix it!
Great advice! I had first thought that the problem was with my Logitech H800 charger/battery. It was instead the cord. On my Amazon Basic cords, the 10 ft version has a wider cord and larger pins than the 6 ft version. I tried both methods, and the one that worked best on the 6 ft cord was #2, with the pliers. It now stays put, and it is charging my H800 Logitech headset.
Hey, I love your video, but I couldn't make the nail clipper work because there wasn't enough of the pin to grab, but I fixed it in two seconds using a needle under the front part of the pin and lifted it up. I wish you had that in your video as a fourth option for people to try.
Half worked for me just now. Thank you! Nubs were a bitch to grip with nail clippers. 1 cord they were too far gone, the other I got pryed up a tiny bit but I think I trimmed them down simultaneously haha. They aren't perfect but both cables I widened as well and they charge sitting still & flat without having to wrap the damn cord around the phone.
Nail clippers cut 90% of the raised pieces off!! Charger totally useless now, Errgh!! Oh sorry sweetie you're off the hook! Little needle-nose squeeze to widen and it's charging away! :D
The nail clipper ate a chunk of mine too. I finally used a needle under the pin opposite the cable and it lifts it up in seconds! No clipper for me next time. ;)
Holy he'll thank you !! I've wasted so much money on charger chords like you would not believe . seriously thanks !

Sir, your nail clipper trick just saved my 2 cables. Thank you.

Lol I did it and my charger broke guess I put too much pressure
@@sarimshabee3664 lol. just enough to bulge it not crush it
So I finally found a 10ft charger and you just saved me from buying a new one. GLORIOUS!!!!
My prongs just go back in when I plug it in or press on it and also my charger only charges on a specific angle for some reason

Amazing, worked on a galaxy S7 to fix the wiggling charging port and the "perfect lab conditions" required to balance my phone to make it charge
It's easier to put the tip of a thick needle under the clips and pry them up instead of trying to grab them with clippers and pull up.
Char Fox it might scratch the gold tac
creature I've actually done this a number of times over the years and never had a problem with it.
I think I'll try this way instead because I'm worried that I might actually cut the clips using the nail clippers.
There are no connecting tacs under the prongs they are simply there for securing tightly the mini itself.
@@kecola Don't worry about cutting the clips... it just won't happen.

Thank you! My USB pins are really buried and the cable doesn't stick to my phone. You'll bring a cable back to its usefulness.
What if the pins are so down you can't pick them up with a nail clipper?
Use a sewing needle
Apply pressure to the metal either side of the pin, gently bending the jack down and the pin will protrude.
Next time try to fix it before its too late! ;)
