    This was the answer I needed to find. Thanks for reaffirming by belief that sometimes the simple fix is all it takes. You don't want to pull the tabs out too far or the HDMI male won't go in but a little effort will work.

    I have been asked a lot about what you can use to do this. The easiest thing to hand would be a craft knife but obviously be careful with that. Other than that maybe tweezers or a large needle .I used a soldering pick in the video.

    My ports don't have any i/o shield or support around them as the i/o shield didn't work with the water block I put on my card, but while trying to figure out a couple of port issues I stumbled on this, and just bending that little bit of metal solved every issue I was having due to the port not being supported/braced anywhere. Simple, yet ridiculously effective. Ty!

    QUESTION: What about on an A/V Receiver? I have an Onkyo A/V Receiver. There is a front HDMI port I use for my laptop. I recently stepped on the long HDMI cable. I literally heard a noise as it was gradually moved out of the port with force. After that, it still worked; however, it was very loose and wiggly. Prior to that, it was a very firm and tight fit. I wouldn't be able to open this A/V Receiver the way you opened up your Graphics Card. What suggestion do you have for my situation?

    • @Plan-C
      @Plan-C  Год назад

      Tbh, if it is still working ok but just loose I would leave it alone. If it is intermittent then you could try this. There is always a possibility that the HDMI port got torn from the actual PCB. Depends how much force was put on it. Normally, they are anchored to the PCB with solder but I have seen them come off the board in some cases. Good luck.

    • @Plan-C

      Hi, If you cant get to the HDMI port on the gfx card then make sure it isn't the other end of the cable. The only other thing I can suggest is spraying contact cleaner/surgical spirit/isopropyl alcohol into the hdmi socket. If you can't spray it in then just soak a Q-Tip in it and drip it in there (obviously when it is off lol). That may help if the contacts have oxidized. Good luck.

      Hi, If the pins inside the HDMI port are mashed or the socket has become detatched from the board then the only option is to remove the old HDMI port and solder on a new one. You can tell by looking into the socket. All the metal pins should be flat on the plastic middle bit. If it is just giving a loose connection but the port is otherwise OK then the method of tightening it up shown here can help.

    • @Plan-C

      It sounds like either the cord has bent the pins inside the HDMI port or that the tension on the still attached cord has torn off some of the solder connections where the port joins the graphics card. I would bet it is definitely an HDMI port problem. Eithet way, it should be fixable by a repair shop.

      Hi, I would first check that the pins inside the HDMI socket are not mashed up. You should be able to see all the metal strips on the centre section down insude of the socket. Sometimes, they come off the centre strip and bunch up at the back. If that happens, you need a new socket. If they are OK then try the opposite of what I did here and loosen the retaining lugs a bit. Good luck.

      @Plan-C  5 лет назад

      @@TylerDurden404 I will but you need to be careful. The voltages on the power supply can retain around 300v even after unplugged from the wall. You need to make sure they are dead before you touch anything. Pliers with insulated handles across the terminals then check them for voltage with a multimeter before touching. If you can get over that it is pretty easy. I followed another RUclips guide. Will see if I can dig it out. Good luck.

    • @Plan-C
      @Plan-C  5 лет назад

Yours may be different and have different value caps. I changed the 6 in the top left corner. You can usually see if they need replacing as they will be domed at the top. As a rule of thumb, you can go up on the voltage rating of the cap but not down, the uf can be the same or slightly higher as they are just filter caps. Try and get 105c caps as they will last longer and make sure to get the polarity right. The stripe on the cap is the negative. Maybe take photos before. The big cap in the middle is the dangerous one on my board (maybe different on yours). It can hold 300v even after being unplugged so don't touch the underside of that part of the board unless you are sure it/ they are discharged! You can discharge it with an insulated (thick plastic) handled screwdriver by bridging the pins with the metal part but be ready for a flash! That voltage can be lethal. I have been bitten by a much smaller one and it really hurt! You will get a clue of how dangerous they are by the voltage rating written on them. Eg the big one has 400v written on it. Otger than being careful it is an easy fix. The parts probably can be scavanged or had for a couple of dollars max. Good luck.

      It's relative - and accurate. If you think bending a small metal tab is not "easy" you must have one hell of a difficult life.

    Can you do this to Xbox but not taking it apart

    • @Plan-C
      @Plan-C  4 года назад +1

      Hi. If you can see into the HDMI port and see a few of the tabs then yes. I just looked at an old xbox360 and looks doable.

      Hey again so what I do if I'm using a flat knife for it

    • @Plan-C
      @Plan-C  4 года назад

      @@darrylculver7315 I wouldn't use a knife. You need something thin with a point on it to be able to get under the tabs. I used a pick type soldering tool thing. It needs to be skinny and sharp. Maybe a very small flathead screwdriver.
