  • mikesinventions.etsy.com Galaga CRT Screen to LCD Conversion show you how Alex and I replaced the TV-Tube-Style screen on Galaga with an old VGA Acer computer monitor. The original tube went out after 4 decades of use, and we wanted to bring this game back to life, because it's so much fun. So, Alex thought we might convert it to take an old computer monitor. He was right. We bought a controller board on Amazon to convert the original video signal to a VGA plug, and performed some trickery with the screen mounting, but a video is worth 30,000 words per second, so check it out. I suppose this conversion would work on pretty much any arcade game from the 80's whether it be Midway, ATARI, or Namco, or whoever...

“FG” is for “field ground.” Distinguishes it from chassis ground. ;)

There are mounting holes on the back of the LCD monitor that are 100mm apart (VESA Mount) and use M8 metric bolts. You can use that to secure your monitor into position so that tipping the cabinet will not let it slide.

It was. He's becoming the primary Mr. Fixit around here. I'm able to get lazier by the year. Thanks for watching!

@@MikesInventionsI was wondering if you could just plug the 5-pin JAMMA video connector to the 5-pin signal input on the board and achieve the same thing.

I’m using the same converter but LCD introduces additional latency. Not good for arcade games!

My monitor only has two prongs. Is it still ok to power to the original power wire from old monitor with original transformer still installed?

For some reason my Zaxxon screen is coming on but the picture wont align and stay still its kind of flickering and moving, and I am trying to adjust through v an h settings. Also the clamp settings..dont know how to keep it from moving and scrolling on the screen, but I do have a picture now.

It's nice but I do prefer a retrotink x2 for scaling with accurate scanlines. I've run the cga/vga converter before and I've grown pretty frustrated with it in this regard, plus it's own 2frame latency and khz timings.

Nice video Mike & Family. Can anyone on here advise what's involved with doing a cap kit & rejuvenation on a CRT monitor thats in my 1980's original BLASTEROIDS Arcade . The serial number is 40 . I've owned it since early 90s. Just recently the displayed text letters & numbers are very blurry looking during game play. Is there a easy monitor swap that would work well for the blasteroids arcade , or is that cap kit / Rejuv idea the better option.
ANY & ALL CHIME IN PLEASE

There are plenty of arcade crt restore and tube swap video. Have you tried the focus knob on the flyback? A cap kit won't hurt but probably not likely to improve your issue. take a look at the sticky threads here.

What a monster. Just fix the CRT. It’s like an inception of things to dislike, cause there’s the possibility, that Galaga machine might have been a Bosconian Star Destroyer Machine sometime prior to being converted. Bosconian is my all time favorite video game, I used to follow a solitary rare machine around to the different local places that would close and open, to feed it my quarters since childhood.

Chances are the original monitor needs a cap kit and the tube needs a gun cleaning done with a rejuvinator. Do that and the game will look and play properly. LCD conversion latency kills time sensitive games like Galaga, and LCD looks terrible in vertical games.

It is the biggest nonsense in the world to put a cardboard monitor in an arcade
