During his trainee days, Suga worked as a delivery man and one day during a delivery, he got hit by a vehicle which left him with a broken shoulder. He recalled suddenly seeing I believe the front tire right next to his head.
But he couldn’t tell anybody at the company or even the group because he feared that he would get kicked out. So he told them that he just fell down the stairs and for so many years after, he had to suffer a broken shoulder; I think he mentioned recently that he always took pain medication every show because of it. He didn’t get surgery to fix his shoulder until late 2020-early 2021.
Suga then said that he actually ended up telling the company at some point and they asked him why didn’t he tell them earlier, they could’ve helped him.
If I’m getting some details incorrect, anyones free to correct me.

I *think* I read that when Big Hit found out that he had been hiding the injury because he thought they would kick him out, and that he'd been working that extra job somehow in between school and training and producing, they created some kind of policy for their trainees that would help them pay for school? (I need to find that source.)

It wasn't broken, but he dislocated it and that tore his labrum and rotator cuff, I believe. He would do physical therapy and get cortisone shots when needed. When he told the company, they made him quit that job and paid for the rest of his university tuition. He said in an interview that deciding to get the surgery during the pandemic was one way he could regain a semblance of control while everything else was so out of their control.

Finally! Someone, who knows about the correlation between Amygdala and Hippocampus! The Amygdala is also called the "hot memory" it stores the memorys only on an emotional level. Therefore the Amygdala reacts before the consciousness even starts and acts on these emotional memories. The Hippocampus is also called the "cold memory" and stores the facts to the emotions, such as "when" "where" "what". If both come together, the amygdala is in the position to react properly after the initial scare, because it can sort the emotions to specific events. The brain of a traumatized person works different... The way between Amygdala and Hippocampus is blocked, so when the amygdala sends the signal to the hippocampus, that something is happening, the hippocampus can't be reached and the info comes back unedited and causes reactions, that aren't approciate in specific situations, because the amygdala can only work with the trauma memory, not with things, that actually happening right now. Mostly it ends in Panic attacks, Flasbacks etc.
I think, the biggest trauma here is yoongis incident where he crushed his shoulder and had to fear, to lose everything he worked so hard for. Practically losing his life, because he feels like without his music he is nothing.
Sadly there is no erasing of memories. The only way is, to work thru the traumas and sort them in correctly, emotionally (amygdala) and chronologically (hippocampus), to repair the way, the nerv cord between them both and let the past rest.
Im not an english speaker, so i hope my writing is understandable...

My relationship with my mother ONLY triggers my trauma response. There will only ever be responded to that way. Instant fight or flight. I never chose it in the first place - I don't choose it now. It's a automatic and completely subconscious and definite full body/brain experience. It's awful. I wish it upon no one.

    • @Traumengelchen1976
      @Traumengelchen1976 Год назад +4

@@LaLayLaKwoumanaQino I know how that feels, fight, flight or freeze reflex. That has to do with the „old memory“. The brain isn’t able to link situations to the „new memory’s“ and make your body react. In a therapy lesson I learnt, that the brain should be able to repair this „blockade“ with working on figuring old memories out, but in reality I am 47 now and I am still waiting for things to not triggering me that way anymore and I am at the end of therapies…
The brain is fascinating but also a very cruel thing…

    Interesting bits about SUGA #1
There was a time when BTS was handed by their staff w/ their baby/childhood pictures & share something, Yoongi/SUGA's picture is when his family were on the beach. He shared that he nearly drowned and was saved by his father and he was so scared, so Jimin asked, "Is that the reason why you never dive in the water with us?" but Yoongi said, "No, I just don't feel like it.". BUT, I do think what Jimin said was right, he said he hates water, and it shows he has aversion to it tho he will still join some of BTS' water activities but not the extreme ones. Everytime trauma/fear is a topic, it's like an instinct to make water an example (also he said he can't watch horror movies, just an endearing info abt him, the Run BTS zombie & horror VR episodes will make you see it). Seeing yoongi not using a stuntman for the drowning scene in Haegeum makes me happy coz that means he's fine with water tho even tho he hates it.
I'm sharing this because I see Yoongi as someone who can't let go of things easily... Yoongi can't let go of his fears, anger, grudge, regret easily just like how he holds on to things so much (he's both extreme both ways, light to dark w/c we can really see in his personality and music, (also his beats from school/predebut days w/c he made it into OT7 songs like for songs like Tomorrow, JUMP, etc. w/c he was the main producer & songwriter)... we saw him not long ago posting a selfie wearing his favorite grey beanie, fave FG T-shirt under his fave red plaid shirt w/c are all his clothes he often wear since years ago, and the tibetan dzi bead necklace his mother gave him before.. one of his many endearing traits is when he likes a piece of clothing or accessory he will wear it all the time for so long (currently, he has this cheetah print fur bucket hat) then will probably appear again in the future just like his other things... also ofc, BTS... there was an interview, Q: Dream? his answer, "being BTS for a long time", Q: BTS? his answer, "my entire life", Q: Future? his answer "BTS" ... his demeanor is often seen as "indifferent", "doesn't care" most of the time but he's one hell of a sentimental person..

You are so right. In the Suchwita episode with V he asks if V still has a necklace that they both had and V says, no, and Yoongi replies, I still have mine. I’m happy that he was able to have such a powerful closure to this chapter of his life. It feels like he is free to move on.

He wanted a very personal song. His accident happened during trainee days. He lied at first but finally told the company. A few of the members had not idea until he later released The Last. He didn't have surgery until 2020. Both in Amygdala & The Last he mentions/hints mental health issues he experienced. Amygdala is mostly hints but in The Last it mentions his parents going with psychiatric ward with him & more.
With his D-Day album it's worth watching or reading his interviews about it. "BTS saved me" isn't an exaggerated comment for some. They have a way of reaching people. These personal songs they (especially Suga) release really do help some people.

Having rehabbed many serious shoulder surgeries and injuries as a therapist I can say that they were the most painful cases of joint injury… really horrible pain. Suga would have suffered that type of pain from about 2012 til 2020…. And chronic pathways in the brain, unlike acute pain, reach into the amygdala causing mental suffering and depression.. Suga already had suffered depression and i can’t imagine the the mental state he would have been in… it is a testament to his strength and determination that he not only survived it but spent those years creating the music that he did….

  • @jimjimcherie

    My take on the almonds.
    1. Amygdala in latin means almond, in greek it was ἀμυγδάλη (amugdálē), as these two clusters of nuclei in the brain have the shape and size of almonds they were named amygdala.
    2. in the book Almond the boy's mother gives him almonds to eat because she thought it would help him develop his amygdala, finally letting him feel things.
    3. The Last - Agust D, here Yoongi mentions that he went to a psychiatrist back when he was around 18, he assisted with his parents, the doctor in that track asks "have you ever been (censored)?" (we infer that he refers to being su!cidal, or if he has thought of hurting himself or others, bcs if you have any experience with mental health professionals this is one of the first things they ask you), he says "I answer without any hesitation that I have". Once you say these words to a psychiatrist, they usually prescribe you medication. So the pills that you see in the MV are a reference to that.
Now, why use the pills and almonds interchangably? Because while the almonds in "Almond" were used to try and make the boy feel something, pills are usually used to regulate your emotions and make you feel less, but also, as amygdala means almond, we can also take it to mean that Yoongi is consuming "amygdala" after "amygdala" trying to try and fix his own which is hyperactive.
The song destroyed me, but the MV completely shattered me. I've had a rough life, Yoongi is the one who I relate to the most because of it, he, in some way or another, always manages to heal a part of me with every album, song he makes.

This is a great break down! Yoongi wrote this song during the making of one of their travel shows. He & Namjoon were reading a book “Almond” by Sohn Won-pyung. It is about a young man who has an under-developed amygdala. His mother feeds him almonds as an attempt to make his amygdala grow because it is almond shaped. Yoongi is eating almonds in the mv.

Seeing how Yoongi was becoming after his shoulder surgery and therapy, he slowly began to get brighter, bolder, and confident, proactively wanting to do many things contrary to the lethargic moments he had before... he's still a few-words, reserved kinda guy, and he still have his pretty laid-back demeanor like he used to before but you know you can tell & feel the difference in him... his fiery spirit before feels like it's a desperate fire blazing until it'll run out squeezing every bit of what he have, but now it's a blazing fire that continuously and passionately burns to do a lot of things... I'M VERY PROUD OF HIM... I hope he knows how much I'm grateful for his music and existence.

Suga has talked about his shoulder injury in a few songs before and even the animation for the song "Bulletproof: The Eternal" has him clutching his left shoulder. He also talked about seeing a therapist in his teens about depression and anxiety so I'm pretty sure those pills are anti- depression/anxiety meds. As for his shoulder, it wasn't broken, but he dislocated it and that tore his labrum and rotator cuff, I believe. He would do physical therapy and get cortisone shots when needed. When he told the company, they made him quit that job and paid for the rest of his university tuition. He said in an interview that deciding to get the surgery during the pandemic was one way he could regain a semblance of control while everything else was so out of their control. He has also said that if you ever see videos of him in live shows where he's holding the mic in his right hand, it's because his left should was hurting too much to hold it in his left.

This was a good summary of his shoulder injury! And also to imagine that near the end before the surgery he could barely raise his left shoulder nor hold a bottle of cider (the chilsung (spelling?) cider commercial). I am certain his right shoulder (and both shoulder blades that he keeps stretching all the time) is also affected to a certain degree, he keeps stretching and massaging that one too (even to this day).

I said this on a couple of my favourite reactors to this song.
Physical trauma stays with you in unexpected ways.
The thing about injuries to the point where you need surgery and physio
You never stop needing some sort of physio or pain meds.
    At least to some degree
I've had knee surgery, dislocated shoulders, and torn ligaments.
The pain comes and goes, and often, it comes in waves.
I still need painkillers every so often, especially in weather changes or if I've been over working or in bed rest.
I still need to go to the pool to do low impact stretches and strength training
I still need to do stretches before bed
I might not need these things every day, even after years.
But its still there, and often times People think, "Oh well, they had surgery, they did physio they're all better"
    It's not that easy.
I can't get the Cartilage back in my knees that I've lost. So yeah, my bones mended my ligaments healed, but my knees grind together closer and closer every day.
Eventually, I'll need to rely on cortisol injections, and eventually, I'll need knee surgery all over again.
That will bring more pain meds and more intense physio.
It's something I'm going to live with my entire life and I'm only 32.
My initial injury happened at 14.
I'll always live with the physical trauma.
I had a metal plate in my knee for a year.
I was told I had ro stop playing sports.
I run for Even a minute my knee throbs for day's
I bike for 30 mins my knee is unstable for weeks.
Sonetimes you loose out on things.
I still had to work 6 days a week years ago before I got to where I am now, cause life doesn't stop just cause you're in pain
From the ages of 15-27, I lived off of extra strength advil and tylenol and adrenaline.
You either take 4 extra strength advil 2 times a day and work, or you couldn't pay bills.
I either wore a tensor on my knee under my jeans so no one saw it and took advil, or I missed out on activities with friends.
It was an endless cycle of pain management and survival and just not giving up on life.
Like yoongi, I'm in a much better place now.
    Better family doctor
    Loving support system
A husband who cares enough that he doesn't mind me making a little less and him covering more if it means I'm not working 6 days straight and not taking pain meds as much.
Emotional and mental trauma stick with you too and having a bi polar mom and a functional alcoholic dad. I had plenty of this, too, but I wanted to highlight my struggle with physical pain over the years.
Yoongi was always so intimate with his lyrics, and often performers know just how much the dancing and the travelling takes a toll on the body. Besides his physical injuries, BTS songs always helped.
I feel like I connected with suga even early on as once a trauma surviver, always a surviver, and sometimes you just know. You look into someone's eyes, and you just know...
Thanks knox you always understand everything so deeply.
    Big hug all Army
Let's continue to heal and love and support each other.
Sorry for such a long comment.

Also, he read a book called Almond based on a man that was born with an undeveloped Amygdala and has issues processing emotions! This gave him some more help with making this song and MV

Your level of perception is always amazing me. Yoongi seems to have written this in 2020 while being filmed for In The Soop. He and RM were reading a book by Wonpyung Sohn called Almond in which the main character Yunjae has alexithymia , a condition affecting the amydala which can effect your ability to name or distinguish your emotions . You are brilliant at this! Keep up the good work!

I found you through my Ren rabbit hole but I have been an ARMY since 2016 and was honestly pleasantly surprised to see you’ve been reacting to them for so long. Especially Agust D. This song means so much to me and I will forever be grateful to Yoongi for creating it. As someone with CPTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder due to a life filled with pretty much non stop trauma since early childhood, it is one of the few songs that makes me feel understood by at least one person in this world even if he doesn’t I exist. This song is truly a gift to someone like me who sadly is disabled due to my trauma and what it has done to my brain over time. I rarely comment on here but just felt compelled to say something.

You’re so damn good at this! Yeah the accident was genuine back when they were trainees, he was working part time to help with living costs as obviously the company didn’t have much money. And he got hit by a vehicle which fckd his shoulder. He left it for too long to get sorted so only really got the proper surgery a couple of years ago. Always grateful with how much he shares. Shame the translations don’t quite display the nuances to his words but the gist is there.

This song/ MV is everything. I think there are some darker tones embedded when he is considering first best choice, second best choice, third best choice. Options, of how to get out. I think the door opening with the white light is far more sinister than it appears. I think it represents one of the choices, that could have freed him, but thankfully he survived, albeit remained trapped. I also think living with chronic pain (or PTSD) would be difficult, and one would want to go back to being their past-self (pre-trauma) but while it would be the best option, potentially resulting in the best outcome - it's just not possible. So instead of thinking that way, accepting and self-love (the line about the lotus flower) may bring about healing. But, the scar is permanent. Cannot be erased, only managed.
I find it both disturbing and inspiring that YoonGi literally replayed his trauma and shot it as it happened for the MV. There're therapy forms it reminds me of - psychodrama and Hellinger's Family Constellations but usually the person of interest would be an observer, while another person would be taking their role in a reenactment of the traumatic event. So from the outside, they may gain a different perspective. Also, through the insight of the other person who's been put in their shoe. I just hope Suga had mental support on board while shooting this. The lengths this man goes to for ARMY, tho! He deserves every respect as an artist and performer.

honestly Amygdala shattered my heart. it almost seemed like a mirror image. stuck in a loop of your past traumas, living through them everyday, repeating every detail of what could you do to do the right thing or to save yourself, harming your self, fighting a battle against your own self; it was too relatable. for years i kept doing this and watching him being stuck like that made my heart hurt badly. how helpless we feel in such moments, watching ourselves suffering but unable to find a relief. I've always counted on Yoongi to say what needs to be said without any fear and he never disappoints. he brings me so much comfort, even though this MV is a hard watch, i still find comfort in it, now then he's free from all this. hope we all find our peace too

This was amazing! Your interpretation added to mine. It seem that it's only ever a version of Agust D that has this facial scar, though on some versions of him it seems a more healed wound (representing him destroying other versions of himself??). So I go from the rebel in Daechwita killed the blonde king who was most likely Agust D from his first mixtape - angry, maybe a little obsessed with success, definitely ambitious. Then in Haegeum I think the police officer is the rebel at a later date (alternate universe even), corrupted by capitalism or power? He is killed by a rebel again (could just be Min Yoongi) in the Haegeum mv but the police officer laughs before being shot, almost like "you can never kill me". Then you have the birth of Agust D in Amygdala but Suga has said many times that Suga/Agust D/Yoongi are all him regardless of how they come across. I find this a painful mv to watch, it resonates with me in some ways that I find difficult but I admire him so much for being so upfront and giving us a glimpse of things behind the scenes. He doesn't have to get that personal but it must help so many that he does. All his D-Day interviews and lives have been incredible! They will be live streaming one of the concerts in June so maybe you can tune in if you want to Knox

I'm so happy you reacted to this. I havent been able to rewatch the music video myself since I watched it the first time, it really hit hard.
The accident is a real thing that happened in 2012, right before BTS had their debut, he was working a part-time job as a delivery boy and was hit by a car and hurt his shoulder. He was afraid of telling anyone what had happened, in case it would affect the debut, so he just said he had fallen down some stairs and hurt his shoulder a little. He would continue to perform and dance with a hurt shoulder, only getting minor treatments for it, until he finally got major surgery in 2020.

Suga was in an accident as a delivery guy and was going to quit because of financial and medical bills. Even though the agency was in a financial bind themselves they took care of his medical bills. Finally had shoulder surgery during pandemic. He also has been through a lot of therapy for PTSD and depression issues including attempting suicide. His music often reflects his vulnerability and introspection. He is very open about mental health and has given many people hope to recover from life's traumas.
