*Meanings for the song titles* *Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.) *Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden. *Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future. My own thoughts on Agust D's Triology: Yoongi has shared his mental health issues with us since the beginning, and he stated how some of his roughest times were in the early days, like from 2014 to 2016, how he developed social anxiety at age 18, he was dealing with depression and OCD. BTS had hate coming at them from all angles, and it took a toll on them in the early years. So hearing all the other things he was dealing with as well, just puts things into perspective. He's such a strong person. In the making video, he said the scars we create are of our own making. So the best way for him to represent that was the way that he did with the scar on his face. And the medicine he took was for his condition. He talked about how he saw a psychiatrist and his parents went with him, and they said they didn't know who he was anymore. This was in "The Last" from his first mixtape Agust D. He said how could anyone know him when he doesn't know himself, so that phrase "I don't know your name" made sense to me. Looking back at repressed memories. Thankfully he got through all of it, and now is healed to a certain degree. I see the rain as a shift., He also talked about "What doesn't kill you make you stronger", and he is now blooming like a lotus flower. The lotus flower is very resilient, and can grow in mud and water, like on a lake or pond. So I see the rain as cleansing, and healing. He also said in the behind the scenes on Daechwita, that the mad King was the Agust D from his first Mixtape in 2016, and the peasant was from his 2020 mixtape D-2. You can see the scar is very raw in that video on both of them, maybe slightly less for the 2020 Agust D. In Haegeum, i interpret it as Agust D from 2020 is the Police detective/corrupt Boss, with the partially healed scar, and the Agust D that kills, and steals the money with no scar is D-Day Agust D. The one that is mostly healed and is talking about freedom. (Do we ever completely heal from our scars?) In an interview with IU, and in the D-Day film, he talks about how he was very angry and now he has forgiven the haters and is living in the present. So his music moving forward may not have the angry vibe that we have seen in the past. But he is definitely not done yet Finally, Yoongi went on a world tour, after this album was released, and at the Final concert, he was very emotional, and had his BTS Bros. and his PEERS there with him. On a couple occasions, ARMY's sang the parts because he was so emotional he couldn't sing. And at the very end, the door he couldn't go through in this Music Video is on the stage, and he's able to walk through now. That tells me that he has healed and accepted those parts of himself, and he can move forward and let go now. You could see the relief on his face and the love as he waved good bye and closed the door. EPIC MOMENT. I was actually able to attend his show in Oakland, California, May 17, 2023. It was an awesome concert. My daughter and I went. I'm 57, she's 32. We had a blast. I'd love to request another Agust D song. This one is on his D-Day album, and it's called SNOOZE. One of my very favorite songs. Agust D (feat. Riuchi Sakamoto & Woosung) Snooze Eng. subs - ruclips.net/video/zCNqdvR9e_w/видео.html
Loved your comment, it explains Yoongi very well to a first-listener 💜 And yes, I couldn't agree more, I would also like to request Snooze for a reaction 🥺 The song itself and the story behind it are both very beautiful and bittersweet 💜
Exactly in order to know and understand his music or what he's talking about you have to understand he writes his music from his own life and the experiences he's gone through. I miss him too.
Suga (aka Agust D) has suffered greatly with mental health. Mental Health is a no no topic in South Korea but BTS talk, rap and sing about it and it's personal. He wrote, composed, and Produced them all he also wrote the story boards for the MV's.
agree with everything but mental health is not a no no topic in south korea in present time. the country suffers from a huge mental health crisis and people are always actively trying to make it a norm. it's not a no no topic.
@@vmj7366 the country is suffering a major mental health crisis precisely because it was and still is a no no topic. And if we're on the subject, we have some famous k pop idols who committed suicide because of mental health issues, I think the most tragic for me was Shinee's Jong-Hyun. And, not to sound too fangirling, but a lot of the improvements in mental health in SK exist due to BTS stepping away from just the general bubbly funny and light concept of K-pop and writing about serious issues, like mental health precisely. Therefore, you may not love all their melodies but the lyrics man... The lyrics hit hard. Fake love, Black Swan, Spring Day, Magic Shop, I could go on and on about lyrics that talk about some mental health issues...
So...this trilogy is complex and deep. But essentially this is a mental health saga of Yoongi battling his own traumas. He plays dual roles in all three MVs, as a "Good" aspect and a "Bad" aspect. The scar represents his trauma as he considers it a self-inflicted wound due to not being able to deal with and process all the bad things that happened in his life, such as his mental health struggles with anxiety, social anxiety, OCD and depression, his self harm, his mother and father's life threatening illnesses, his accident that nearly ended his career when he was still a trainee and led to living secretly with, and managing the pain of, his shattered shoulder for 7 years before finally getting surgery to rebuild it, his other near death experiences like his burst appendix when they were on tour, as well as not getting enough love as a child, his parents being adamantly opposed to his music career, etc In a nutshell - in the first song, Daechwita (Daych-whi-Tah with a very soft w) he is battling and killing his rage and paranoia represented by the paranoid and bloodthirsty mad king who is blonde like Yoongi in BTS early years. The scar of his trauma is fresh on the mad king and more healed on the peasant Agust D. In Haegeum (Hay-gum) he is battling his greed in the form of the corrupt detective. The detective is the peasant Agust D from Deachwita, but the scar is even more healed, while the current Agust D doesn't have the scar at all. In both Deachwita and Haegeum, the supporters of the enemies (the mad king and the corrupt detective) switch sides in a coup and become ARMY, supporting Agust D instead. Also, in both MVs he has 6 guys behind him, representing his brothers in BTS. In Amygdala, we are inside his mind, his Amygdala, the center for storage of memory and trauma, getting the origin story of his trauma wounds. Here he is at his most raw and vulnerable, his shadow self. It is not uncommon for BTS to share these raw, vulnerable and very personal stories with us when they are either ready to work through them or have moved past them. So just as he is working past all of it, this is the story of how the trauma he has been working to heal all these years, and sharing about in much of his music, was created. Here he plays the traumatized and dark shadow self, as well as a dark observer, who sits in the corner eating almonds, a reference to a book of the same name about trauma and the approximate shape of the Amygdala itself, and he plays Yoongi, the artist, the one trying to break himself free of the traumas outside the door. I left out many details but some things to note: A Daechwita is played for the coming of the King or Army or a Changing of the Guard. The executioner with the large sword who cuts his bonds instead of his head and gives him the gun, is the same person as the street butcher that peasant Agust D shares a nod and a look with on the street scene. He kills the mad king in Daechwita with a Colt ARMY model revolver, representing the strength he found in ARMY. A Haegeum is a two stringed traditional Korean instrument played with a bow which you can hear in the start of the song, but also means the breaking of a ban/freedom from what was forbidden. So here it means a shedding of the greed for money, clout, titles of genre limitations, and all of the trappings of success and limited thinking, in exchange for just embracing the identity of 'Artist.' This is similar in meaning to RMs songs Still Life and Wild Flower. Also, the two red chopsticks we focus on repeatedly in the MV represent his music, like the two strings on a Haegeum. He both slays his enemies and feeds himself with his music. In Amygdala the accident presented is a very PG version of his actual accident. On his world tour, the final show the same door appeared as from Amygdala and he smiled and waved and walked through it at the end of the show, telling ARMY he has moved past these traumas now. If you like their more aggressive Hip Hop try their Cypher Series (1-4), Outro: Tear, Ddaeng, Baepsae, Intro: Boy Meets Evil, Interlude: Shadow, Dope, UGH!, Respect, Outro: Ego, Ma City, Mic Drop, and their first 4 albums: 2 cool 4 Skool, O!RUL8,2?, Skool Luv Affair and Dark & Wild. Or try any other solo work of the other rappers. They have 8 albums between the three of them. (Edit) 9 solo albums now from the rap line, with j-hope's brand new release! Bringing the total to 12 solo albums from BTS members. (Second Edit! Now 10 solo albums from the rap line with RMs new masterpiece, making it 13 total solo albums from BTS members so far, and 20 group albums.)
I'm army and I didn't know a few things you mentioned!! The chopsticks being his music! The layers in these songs are insane. Ty for taking the time to write this out!
BTS has given more and more people the interest and desire to listen and to explore the art of music again. Welcome to the BTS rabbit hole my friend! You will not regret it. BTW, I’m a 48 y/o male, husband, and father of two. I lived through 4 eras of music and in my opinion these guys are the best in my entire lifetime. They as a group have achieved and are still achieving more than any other groups previous to them. One of the greatest moments was when my 11 y/o daughter introduced me to BTS. Now, we can enjoy this group as a family!!! Can’t wait for them to get back from the military and get back together in 2025! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
How lovely! I'm 42 and I've only known them for about 30 days now, because I'm a translator and I wanted to dive into a new language. Korean is my nex target and BTS keeps popping up on my research. I can't say I regret it at all, especially Agust D's message so deep and full of embeded culture. He's like a teaser, you've gotta dig into Korean history and customes to get the whole thing. Before you know it, you'll find yourself doing cultural research and even having fun. You also realize that you know very little about the other half of your own planet!
@@angiecostabr i’m Asian and my wife is American ( Puerto Rican to be more exact ) and our children is a mix. My daughter and my wife can’t seem to get enough of the K-Dramas. Though i’m not Korean, i do appreciate the Korean culture more and more. But BTS is a life changer for sure!!
@@somolmean3980 What an awesome mix you've got there! I also caught the Asian Drama bug, but I'm more into the Chinese ones like "Miss The Dragon" or "Lost You Forever". I'm trying to learn Chinese too, but both are challenging for a person born into the Indo-European roots like me.
Suga/Agust D's songs are what drew me first to BTS. I was so close to s**c*d* when i listened to The Last and that was just freezing water hitting me on the face. I cried for hours realizing even Suga was the same as me. That's 4 years ago. Been loving myslef more slowly each day.
So happy to hear you are fighting to get better. It's hard to fight every day to try and see the good things and deal with the bad things - I'm in the same boat and I want both of us to keep fighting for our strength to move forward. Borahae, fellow traveler.
The word “haegeum” has different meanings in Korean. It describes a traditional Korean instrument (which can be heard in the instrumentals of the track), but it can also mean the lifting of a ban/prohibition,
I do not think everyone loves all of BTS’s songs 😂 that does not sound possible. But there are always songs to find that you absolutely love. I cannot wait for the “Run” video, I love that song.
Not all of Suga's solo music is this aggressive. All of it is intense, but some of his songs hold such an incredible depth of compassion and empathy. You might like Snooze, musically, but the featured artist, Woosung has an incredible voice that fits the song perfectly.
Hey! I just wanted to comment something I really appreciate about you that might seem weird at first but hear me out: I love that you straight out tell your opinion. Whether you like it or not, and that you don't have to like everything an artist puts out. Also, that you research some stuff on your own. This might seem obvious, but the majority of 'music reaction channels' on youtube just cater to the audiences opinions. They lie and pretend, don't research anything on their own and ask their followers every single thing even if its just one google search away. It is just crazy superficial. I AM a BTS fan, but I am also a music fan. I enjoy when people give me their honest opinion on something, even if it's just about their personal taste! I know they are not perfect at all and they try different genre so its logical that we all like or dislike different things (thats the most interesting) I hope you keep your videos this way! Thanks for your nicely done videos.
@becauseisaac can you also listen to first love by Suga (Agust'd). No MV but it's an intense song about his journey with the piano and by extension music.
I'm in a similar place as you in learning BTS' music and really, what they have to say - which is a lot. What I understand and what really, really speaks to me, as an Asian American, is their ongoing theme of duality that runs through much of their high concept work. And you see it here in AgustD's powerful trilogy. The contrast musically of traditional vs the new. The old/younger self vs the new/wiser self. Materialism vs. Idealism. Now, even in Jung Kook's single work - which is just straight up fun, fresh, pop music - you are hearing discourse around yet another facet of duality with a Korean singing in English in a larger, international scope. What I feel about BTS is that on the surface, you can listen and love their music, yes, certainly. But, you can also dive in deeper and hear so, so, much more.
Perfectly stated. There is so so so much more. What made me fall like deep love is when I watched Blood Sweat and Tears and had to read Damien to understand the themes. Like what pop band has me reading literature and educating myself to understand their music? Then I found out about the BU and then I was like ok I’m hooked. Not to mention the duality also is prevalent in who they are as individuals. Each of them has duality and it’s beautiful to see.
This was beautifully put. I totally get it and their ability to yoke together contradictions (which is what life is actually) both musically and lyrically, among many other qualities, made me realise that they are something special! Can't wait for them to come back together and rock the world in 2025! 💜
Thank you for this reaction. He does produce his own music. I was fortunate enough to see him in Chicago in May. Every song was wonderful. I’ve been to many concerts over the years, but this was the best live performance I’ve ever seen. Amygdala was especially beautiful, and he acted out many of the scenes in front of us. this man has saved many people with mental health issues, and like you, although I’ve never suffered from any, he’s really helping the rest of us to understand and be empathetic towards those they affect. We purple you 💜
Thank you for giving BTS a second thought. You were quite skeptical in the beginning. Yes, their English songs are very “poppy”, we get it. There is so much more to this group and I’m glad you’re checking them out. I honestly thought you’d just say “No, thank you”, and turn away. I hardly gave rap a second chance. Much of it just sounded like noise. I love the rap I’ve discovered with BTS! All three rappers have drawn me in with their style and lyrics! Turns out this music is good for the soul. And another point, people who may be suffering some kind of trauma and/or instability won’t always show it. People can put on a mask to hide what they’re going through so it won’t burden others. Suffer in silence. There may be people around you with depression and you wouldn’t see it. Anyway, keep going! BTS has much to offer!
The meanings of BTS songs are not always simple to understand. They use metaphors, literary references, Korean slang, historical references, etc. So for a foreigner or non-Korean speaker you really need a little help. There are whole channels dedicated to analyzing BTS songs. The 2 main ones are: DKDKTV and Bookish Theories. You should also know that: 1)their albums are thematic and built around a concept. They generally have 2 or 3 albums in series around aspects of the same concept. Watching their MVs in order will help you have a greater understanding. 2)their MVs also have a separate storyline running through them. This storyline is called the Bangtan Universe or BU. I mention this because Fake Love (which you mentioned) has a lot of storyline imagery in it. Sorry. This is probably TMI
In Deachwita, the King is supposed to represent Suga's (Agust D's) past self, who was holding on to a lot of anger and greed. Suga explains this himself in the behind the scenes footage. Even the king's blond hair is a nod to Suga's blond hair from the era of his previous mixtape. The lower-class Suga represents his present self who now has everything he wanted and realizes how dangerous his greed can be (notice how the King becomes more and more unhinged throughout the MV) and decides to put a stop to it. The lyrics in the bridge sum up the main theme of this song really well: "I got everything I ever wanted.... .....Yeah, what's next Here comes my reality check There's nowhere higher I only looked up and now I want to look down And put my feet on the ground." There's so much more to the Deachwita MV, tons of clever historical references and easter eggs. I'm sure other ARMYs will help out in the comments. 😁 Thanks for checking out BTS and for giving your honest opinions. 💜
Oh man! So excited for this one! If you want to understand the lyrics with korean context for Daechwita I highly recommend the explanation by dkdtv. You don’t have to, just pointing out if you are interested as there are tons of historical references for each bar.
I also recommend it, you will understand the MV but also a little about Korean culture and you will realize how Suga is a genius when it comes to music
Just going to mention that as others have said he produces his own songs. In fact on Haegum he’s the only one credited for writing production etc. The way he uses traditional instruments and musical styles mixed with a modern beat that feels fresh and also as a metaphor in the songs meaning is genius. He also writes his own story boards so this big cinematic idea is all him. He is so dang cool and I think the most intense of the members. All 3 songs live were amazing. Daechwita is hype and the whole audience screams the place down same with Haegum. Amgydala is pure emotion and he plays guitar singing it live. His last show he cried through much of Amgydala in one of the most emotional performances I’ve ever seen. But he finally walks through the door free of his past.
Each member of BTS has their own universe, apart from their group songs, you can discover the world of each of them, personally I love them all, you can start with V's album "layover" very jazzy whose MVs also tell a story. There is also Jungkook's album "Golden" which is rather pop from the 80s with a beautiful tribute to Mickael Jackson to read between the lines, with very artistic and graphic MVs. Jimin's album "Face" is a real pop gem , hip hop and R&B, with a very specific universe to the one whose voice is close to that of the angels, the album "Indigo" by RM the leader of the group, a rap full of poetry, depth and creativity, the J hope album "jack in the box", a dark and committed rap and so high quality! finally jin's solo song released just before his departure for military service as a gift to fans.
And don't forget Suga's album D-DAY who in the first time in history according to Hanteo chart Agust D the first rapper in history that sold $1,072, 311 copies worldwide on its first day.
It’s funny cause both my mom and I love BTS but our playlists are completely different because we have different tastes. BTS does it all, which is why I think you can find smth you love in their discography even if you initially think you won’t.
Thank you for your reaction Okay so basically the first one was a kind of diss track to people who were disrespecting him and bts to put it in basic terms but there is so much more to it so I highly recommend you watch the explanation video that has been recommended. The second one (I can never remember how its spelled) is in basic terms again about how people should let other people have freedom but also people should know difference between freedom and self indulgence while being mindful to find their own beliefs not subscribe to everything you see online or in the world. amygdala is easier to understand its about his accident that injured his shoulder pre debut and how that left him in a very dark place with everything that was going on in his life at the time. if you'd like these I would recommend reacting to the last you'll have to pull up the lyrics video. There is no official video for but it is worth checking out I'm not even sure if he meant to do this but side note where he's crawling on the ground up of the incline in the ring unable to get out or to even reach the door to try but is still me trying to free himself is exactly what having anxiety and depression feels like.
Amygdala is a prequel to the other two. He shows us how he got the scar. He mentions that the scars we have in life are made by us. So Daechwita has a very scarred Yoongi fighting his two personas. Haegeum has one with a nearly healed scar and the other with no scar. In his final D-Day concert Yoongi goes through that white door to the other side. He's healed now
Thank you so much for reacting my bias songs. That's my Suga aka Agust D , the best!! You'll find out later the meaning of Daechwita , check later DAECHWITA EXPLAINED BY DKDKTV. Suga or Agust D is brilliant and so genius all his songs created, written , composed, straightforward lyrically & beats owned by himself. Suga is deep -- you have to deep dive his backstory , personality --- he is unique and interesting human being to me💜
That accident was worse in real life and he finally had to have corrective shoulder operation on that shoulder. He has his Friendship tattoo just above it now. All 7 members of BTS have a friendship tattoo they did it for their 10th anniversary It's number 7.
AMYGDALA is in some ways a conclusion of whats happening in Daechwita and Haegeum. AMYGDALA is really the real reflection of what Suga had been through in life, Its a biographical song a life story of Suga. This is not the first time Suga being vocal and honest about himself, in his song THE LAST which pretty intensed but very raw, so vulnerable that he unmasked himself his true feelings and emotion. Its a very powerful song. And so his song SHADOW oh my gosh most of his songs are just so deep and make sense but he is also very upfront and have no hesitation to fight back to those people who looked down BTS and him especially during the time when they were struggling and trying to make name 10 years ago thats why DAECHWITA , also his banger disstrack AGUST D song born. He is a no non-sense guy nor beating around the bush. His music is a little bit different because it is kind of darker than the rest but it straightforward, honest , laying tge facts and it touch your heart and soul . I miss him so much and will be waiting for him and the rest of the boys when they back in 2025!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
A heads up about Run... From your description it sounds like you mean Run BTS. Run and Run BTS are two different songs of theirs (plus their variety show is also called Run BTS. They really didn't make it easy for us. 😂). It's just that you'll *definitely* get called out on it *a lot* if you mention the wrong song in the title or while speaking about it. 😆 💜
"The last" is a song hahha august d mostly writes form his life or experiences so his lyrics are always deep. Daechwita and Haeggum have a lot of meanings and the dual characters he played represent a part of him and a part of the authority that rules the world.
I was waiting for this one. You will likely like this rapper for the aggressive tone he has and the overall production and message he has to offer. Agust D is honestly one of my favorite artists.
Alright so I will try to explain the Meaning of each song for you: DAECHWITA: Daechwita is actually a traditional Korean musical genre born in the late Joseon dynasty, which used to be performed in royalty processions, was characterized by including wind instruments and percussion. Today it continues to be used on special occasions and for military purposes. Daechwita by Agust-D, is a representation of Suga’s constant battle against himself and how the desire to achieve his dreams have given him the courage to do everything to achieve being on top, and the emptiness he feels even now when he has everything he wants. Dachwita’s MV references parts of Korean culture as well. Set in a royal palace, the video sees Agust D take on two opposing characters. He is a humble boy who represents the Korean people and is also the king. Yoongi faces himself in an endless battle, his revolutionary and humble side against the powerful, cruel and dangerous part of his personality. Daechwita gives a powerful message about being proud of our roots, of being able to become what we most want despite adversity. At the same time, the dark side of power is also made clear, where having what we most wanted is sometimes not enough. HAEGEUM: The word “haegeum” has different meanings in Korean. It describes a traditional Korean instrument (which can be heard in the instrumentals of the track), but it can also mean the lifting of a ban/prohibition. “This song is a haegeum”, he raps, and later adds: “bustling rhythm, maybe would also be another haegeum ”. The “haegeum” is the instrument for the liberation, the song itself is both the sound and its intent, the medium and the message. Then Agust D goes on rapping about wanting to provide means for people (himself included) to liberate themselves from all that’s restraining them. Interestingly enough, he even addresses liberation from (supposed) freedom of expression, by questioning how much freedom there really is in it. When he raps “A flood of information prohibits the freedom of imagination”, it’s hard not to think of McLuhan’s definition of hot media, that is, the type of media that is “low in participation” and “completion by the audience”. And even more interestingly, Yoongi raps about liberation by calling shots that could backfire on himself. He calls out the “slaves to RUclips” on a track whose very release was done through a RUclips video. He criticizes the “slaves to capitalism” and “slaves to money” while being himself a pop star that uses all the tools that corporate media provides to make money and encourage the consumption of a handy of products. He’s part of the same system he describes as flawed in “Haegeum”. Of course he is. If he wasn’t, this song wouldn’t even exist in the first place - the very Agust D persona was created so Yoongi could address these issues more throughout. Would be it hypocritical or ironic that Agust D points out patterns that apply even to himself and to BTS? BTS does release a lot of stuff (from music to content to all sorts of products). Are they flooding their fans with information to cage them into consumer loyalty? Maybe yes, maybe no, it’s up to the fan to say it. If being a BTS fan brings any sort of pressure or restriction for somebody, then the verse “This song is a haegeum / Get on it now” might be for them. In “Haegeum”, Yoongi is claiming his awareness of being an endorser and a slave of the things he disagrees with (“All those controversies cause confusion in judgment / What would it be that restricted us? / Would it be possible that we did it ourselves”, he raps). Agust D is both an addition to the system and an answer to it - like any other medium. It’s proof of how the human need for freedom of expression cannot be encapsulated in one medium or message only. AMYGDALA: To better understand this track, one must first understand the amygdala’s function in the brain. This region of our minds is mostly responsible for handling emotional processes and regulating those emotions, but it also plays a role in encoding memory, particularly when memories have a highly emotional component. Putting it simply, when a remembrance has a strong emotional impact on an individual, be it positive or negative, the amygdala stores that information so that in the future, those memories can aid the person to recognize a setting or event that is similar or elicits the same emotions, and inform their decisions. Of course, this effort is futile. Favoring emotion over logic, the amygdala can never respond to rational pleas to forget, even if sometimes memories cause more harm than good. Despite it all, though, the artist also reflects on how none of these situations were able to keep him down for good. In his song, when faced with the recollection of his mother’s heart surgery, his father’s cancer diagnosis, and his own road accident, Agust D pleads directly with his own brain, his amygdala, to let him forget the painful memories he’s evoking. Despite how important his region of our minds is for survival, and how much it works to protect us from threats by aiding our fight-or-flight responses, the rapper would just rather erase all his most negative memories to live in blissful ignorance. “My amygdala, save me from here. Hurry and get me out,” he says. “AMYGDALA” concludes the Agust D trilogy series by revealing the origins of Agust D’s scar, which can be seen in both the “Daechwita” and “Haegeum” music videos. Suga can be seen in “AMYGDALA” sitting on a couch in a dark room. As he sits down, he uses a pocket blade to self-inflict the scar above his eye. Suga addresses the direction of the story for the music video in his Disney+ documentary, Road to D-Day. When referring to the “AMYGDALA” story, he explains, “This is the story of my life, you know. Before I reached the age of 20, I’d already had a lot of things going on in my life. I really want to talk about how I got the scar over my eye in this song. In a way, we’re responsible for all our own wounds and scars.” HOPE THIS HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND THE TRILOGY WAY BETTER :) you can also watch explained videos for each song on youtube by DKDKTV or Bookish Theories Channels. Every BTS Member is a deep thinker and has a lot of beautiful stories in their songs you just have to open your mind even more and you will understand. Please Check out JIMIN work NEXT ! ^.^ Do an album review for his SOLO EP - FACE with MV's and Live Performances! Thank you!
this is one of the best explanations of the trilogy ive ever read. thank you Army. i agree that all their songs esp the solos have special stories. i particularly love the story and the poetry of THE TRUTH UNTOLD.
If you liked fake love and black swan, i think you will also like outro: tear by rapline. Also some more Agust D songs which i want to suggest are Snooze and The Last. Love your reactions.❤
The fact that you love Fake Love and Black Swan is great! Both of these are definitely high on our list too of favorite songs. I don't know if you've already checked out IDOL- if you did and hated it through music video-- I sympathize. BUT please give it a few more listen through live performances. This is truly one of their most fun and loved song. As for Daechwita and Haegeum, in the MV SUGA's character has 6 friends to represent the other 6 BTS members.
Thanks for your reaction to one of my favorite artist. Haegeum it seem is inspired a bit by the Jocker but also by his MV "Daewchita" and I think the movie Scarface In their discography, BTS has already touched on deep themes and psychological themes. For example, in their album Map of the Soul, they were inspired by the theories of Carl Justav Jung, who was one of the most popular psychoanalysts of the 20th century and founder of depth psychology, which is mainly based on what exists between consciousness and the unconscious. Jung coined the "map of the soul" and different concepts to explain it, some of them are archetypes that, as if it were a universe that we carry inside, allow us to draw a map that shows how our psyche is configured (Persona, Ego, Anima and Shadow).. each rapper of BTS has a song for those archetipes (Persona: RM / Shadow: Suga / Ego: Jhope)... And there is the Anima (the feminine aspect present in the collective unconscious of men and the Animus is the masculine aspect present in the collective unconscious of women. In other words, we all have feminine and masculine energy, although one prevails over the other in each individual. So in their MV Boy with Love the feminine energy present in the members is exalted because they have already connected with their Anima and that is why they are "boys with love". On those BTS albums they seek to generate a journey towards the encounter with ourselves and the acceptance of the "I" among them the integration of our polarity, be it feminine or masculine... and for this reason a lot of vibrant tone is used in this video and shades of pink in the color palette of the video) Returning to Haegeum.. here the chief of police is the one who killed the tyrant king in Daewchita, who has now become corrupted with power... For me it symbolizes Suga's shadow, which is in his unconscious mind due to his traumas and which he seeks kill whenever he feels he is taking off and gaining more power... a part of him reveals himself to the re-installation of the tyrant and kills him Suga is well known for his deep lyrics... He usually talks about mental health, self love, self discovery, politics, social issues, reflects about Life and people.. although he does have trash songs for haters (they have received a lot of hate, criticism and even injustice and mistreatment as artists by Korean media trough their career). Please try to pay attention to the lyrics About Amygdala (a region on the brain primarily involved in the processing of emotions and memories associated with fear. Is part of the limbic system within the brain and is key to how we process strong emotions like fear or pleasure. The name amygdala is derived from the Greek word amygdale, meaning “almond,” owing to the structure’s almondlike shape) Much of the video refers to an accident Suga suffered shortly before debuting in 2012 while working as a delivery boy to pay for his studies while he was a Bighit trainee. At first, he told his group members that he had fallen from the stairs, but in reality a car hit him when he was riding his bicycle and he says that after falling he saw that his head was almost under the wheels of the car. Suga did not want to reveal the truth to the agency because he thought they would reject him, after months he had to say it because his shoulder had been dislocated as a result of the accident and did not heal well becaused of lack of treatment and rehabilitation. Eventually he told the company and they paid his treatment and his studies... after debuting, he had injections and therapies for years until he could not postpone his surgery because over time and being an idol with intense choreography, the injury worsened so he underwent surgery for the pandemic and was offstage for about 4 months while he recovered In other songs he's released in the past as Agust D, on mixtapes for Soundcloud, he talks about his depression, social anxiety and panic attacks...I think it's the first time he's commented on his father's cancer... he found out while he was fulfilling his schedule with BTS (which has been very tight and demanding and he probably could not be with his father as long as he would have wanted due to being under contract and his corresponding obligations) When the wound is inflicted on the face, I think it seeks to reflect how it has hurt itself in the past (the mind of a depressed person, we already know that it hurts itself a lot and he mentioned in one of his songs that he have thought about s*u*i*c*i*d*e in the past) and I also think it represents the birth of your alter ego Agust D which would allow him to externalize his shadows in parallel to BTS When he says: I don't know your name, I think he refers to himself... to that shadow in his unconscious mind... in his song "The Last" he mentioned that his father told him they didn't know him... and he commented that if he did not know himself, how would other people would get to know him? and he also mentioned that sometimes he was afraid of himself By the end he is rushing to save himself but he can't open the door, to my is becaused Agust D represents his traumas lodged in the past... and the past cannot be changed 🤔 Although I think that now at this moment he is more at peace with himself, it seems that during the pandemic that shadow returned for a while like many other people who found themselves in a dark place during that period but finally he was able to heal more of his wounds and that is why D-Day arrives (name of his Album and one of his songs) This song is inspired by a book that Yoogi read called "Almond", is about the story of a young man with a disease that prevents him from recognizing and expressing emotions, and which is associated with an undergrowth of the cerebral amygdala, usually the size of an almond. It's a story about growing up, discovering yourself, and accepting that help doesn't always come where we expect it. Suga is his stage name with BTS... Agust D is when he releases solo music (in Kpop the artists.. known as Idols, don't usually curse... Althoug the rap line have broke that rule when they sing solo or as a rap unit) so is his way to separate his public BTS Persona known as Suga, in order to be able to express himself more freely without affecting the image of the group Regards from Mexico
It's great to make comparison, but let's not tell things as facts when they aren't. Suga never said the Joker or Scarface were inspiration for either of those MVs. He never mentions the Joker and then a character from Scarface was inspiration for 'Tony Montana' but not Daechwita. Also, 'Almond' isn't the inspiration of Amgygala. It's one allusion used in the MV, but again, he never said it was 'inspired' by that book. Also, Boy With Luv represents the 'persona', not the 'anima.'
The butcher is also the executioner which him and tge executioner already conspire to for the king's downfall-- but everything has metmorphical meaning.
Rooster is his birth sign and Min which is his family name is the name of the last royal Southern Family. The Family that was removed from Korea by the Japanese and taken hostage to Japan. fun historical fact.
Not fact at all. The Korean royal family name is Yi, and has been since the beginning of the Joseon dynasty. The Empress Myeongseong (Queen Min) was from a high ranking aristocratic Min clan family and she married the king. She was not born royal. My understanding is that Yoongi may be distantly related to her but it is a myth that he or his family are ‘royal’.
on one side, the first two MVs are like (corrupt) government vs. ordinary people but on the other side of the whole story, it's about SUGA fighting with his old self which is why Daechwita have the contrast of old and modern theme, it's also like a fight within himself to not get swept away by his current status as a member of the biggest group.. kinda like killing this negative idea before it consumes you.. AMYGDALA is actually his life story. the self inflicted scar can represent as is, he tried to harm himself. and he carried that scar as he fought himself through his fame he had another song from 2016 that also talks about his struggles which made us aware of them, but seeing it is on another level. anyway, his first mixtape imo was more brutal than these songs. SUGA was an angry young adult. angry at his old peers from the underground, angry at the kpop system and angry at the people who always belittle BTS. he was blond then that's why the mad king on Daechwita is also blond.. recently, during his promotion for his album, he said that he's not angry anymore and said that he might not produce music as Agust D for a while cause from the start, Agust D was his outlet to express his unfiltered thoughts and anger
I really enjoy your video, it was so honest and real. and agust d produce his own songs and most of bts songs , he is truly the best producer and song writer.
i hope you dive into their b-sides because as much as title tracks like run and fake love are great, their b-sides are 1000% greater maybe you could do full album reactions starting off from their debut and moving up
This song breaks me every time I hear it. Suga's painful young years left him with major depression issues to the point of suicide. He has said that he was saved by the strong bond of the BTS members. The brotherhood they formed is partly reponsible for their success. The pressure of this industry is very hard on the mental and physical health, so they were their own sopport group. You should watch some of their documentaries to get to know them.
You're in for a ride obviously their 3 English songs aren't their best work they're just fun summer songs to cheer people up during the pandemic. Their Korean songs are the best and usually have very powerful meaningful lyrics and yes because of their versatility you never know what to expect with them they cover almost all genres. Fun fact BTS make most of their music from scratch writing, composing, producing and sometimes directing. Suga/Agust D is not only a rapper but he's the producer for the group and he's produced songs for other artists as well. He's won many awards for producing he's brilliant. I recommend you check these songs of one of the other rappers of the group J-hope next: Arson Ego More
Theres a lot of symbolism and meaning in Daechwita that carried away to the 2nd unril to the 3rd of the trilogy songs. The scar n his face has a big significant . Suga's songs are always deep and theres akways storyline on it. Not to mentioned his MV is like a movie, cinematography a top notch, visual, rap and lyrics is just everything is tge best!!
As an army of 5 years Amygdala has a special place in my heart because it's based of a true strory of Sugas past when he was a delivery boy and got into an accident and hurt his shoulder really badly that he had to go to the hospital. 🤧🤧😭💜 this song is so beautiful✨
I really like your honest reaction. Thank you for this. BTS has lot of meaning ful lyrics. Hope you enjoy all of them 😊 Interlude : shadow UGH I want to recommend them for next time.
Watch a Guide to BTS Members: the Bangtan 7, by Taylor, so you will understand their names and personal context. Please, it helps to listen to their music with more details.😀
Haegeum is also slang for lifting a ban or release from something that's forbidden. Presumably, it derives from the ancient musical instrument that the traveling 'bards' would play while singing songs that informed people about, or spoke out against, political issues of the day. Again, there are good explanation videos on RUclips. 💜
Haegeum was written, composed, and produced solely by Suga. He is the only person on the song credits. He was also heavily involved in the storyboarding for the music video.
AgustD writes, composes and produces all his songs, he is a great artist. Their 3 albums are wonderful. And not only that, he is also the creative mind behind the MVs, he thinks of everything.
Suga is a genius. He writes, performs and produces, he even has a large input for the videos. We are all missing him so much at the moment. Other songs by him First love, Snooze, People, Seesaw. Also not forgetting the song he wrote and produced for Psy (of Gangnam Style) That That, which he also performed in. You will see a different side of him
Just wanted you t know that Suga put his own money to produce Daechwita so it would be done the way he wanted. I’ve heard it was one million and also two million and then he released it for free. I think it’s a cinematic masterpiece.
I want to point out that the cigarette scene was really throwing in some people hating on V because they thought he was smoking outside at a Vegas concert. I also want to point out that if people would respect their privacy and private lives more then it wouldn't be a big deal. People need to realize that BTS are grown adults with private lives and feelings. Also, Suga is a musical genius, His song represents not only his Korean culture but also his life and what he has gone through plus what as a group they went through. Haegeum - has two meanings. The first is a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at the Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban or release what is forbidden.
My bias is V but Suga's DDay is amazing. Good nusix good artist are just that. I was fortunate to see his concert in Singapore. Amazingggg! Really intense and emotional. Do watch and react to the mv like Snooze.
Song recommendations to check out: More by J-Hope Snooze by Agust D - one of my favssss Wildflower by RM The entire Mono album by RM is gorgeous and very very introspective. My favourite on there is Moonchild. Like Crazy by Jimin Those are some of my fav solo works by the BTS members :)
I didn't always love all of their songs, but when I understood their meanings, it changed how I consumed music. I found that I enjoyed listening to these songs just because I appreciated the lyricism and artistry even if the song style didn't suit me.
Same here, discovered them on SNL with boy in love . . . Looked further . . . Just love Tear & House of Cards! Of course so much more like RM's Hectic etc
Amygdala is Suga/ Agust d life. He went through all of that, he was a delivery man and got hit by a car, and he got his shoulder injured. He continued being a trainee at Big Hit (BTS label) and nobody knew about his shoulder, he needed surgery but didn't have money to pay for it and he was scared that the company would not accept him. Idos needed to dance and his shoulder was an impediment, he suffered from pain all alone. He left his home at a young age, and his parents didn't support his love for music.... You should watch the explanation videos of the trilogy there is a lot more.. BTS has very deep messages, in most of their songs so, fake love has a deeper meaning.
I genuinely loved your honesty in the beginning of the video regarding BTS discography, no sugarcoating it and being truthful about your likes and dislikes. BTS has over 200+ songs overall, including solo work, and they are very diverse and versatile, they explored a lot of difeerent genres and sub genres over the years. Therefore, it's only logical that a person won't absolutely love all of their songs, even ARMYs may have favorites and least favorites. But that's the thing with BTS, you'll most certainly find a song if not plenty that will definitely appeal to you and suit your tastes. Thank you for your reaction to Agust D!!
Yoongi: So my mom had to have heart surgery, I was in an accident that shattered my shoulder but I couldn't even talk about it, my dad had cancer and I got severe depression You: That's rough buddy 😂😂😂
In this MV and in Haegeun, he appears with 6 companions, citing BTS. Each MV has its own interpretation, but the complete meaning is the trilogy. Even in Amygdala, the ending is a little frustrating, but understood and concluded on the last day of the DDay tour, in Seoul, when he demonstrates that he overcame all the difficulties like Agust D and now the mature Suga supports those who are starting, in "Snooze".💜💜💜
Wait till you see the live performances for Magic Shop it's absolutely incredible that song for sure saved me in so many ways and it's a song I hold close to my heart.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰 in the live performance youll hear Army singing back to bts it'd a moment that will go down in history for me it just shows the relationship of bts and army an how strong the bond is.
Hey Isaac, these videos use a lot of traditional Korean instruments which I really enjoy. The BTS rappers have taught this old lady to appreciate rap and its art form. :) Have you watched Jung Kook’s live @iHeart radio performance of “Standing Next to You”? It is with a live band and as a composer you might enjoy that (if you like retro funk). He also put out a remix of the song with Usher. Just a suggestion. You are a lot pickier on music than me. My mother was a really good musician and I was brought up listening to all sorts of things, so thankfully I love more than I don’t love. :)
oh AGUST D bts main producer, beside RM and JHOPE. he mostly self produce his solo stuffs. he originally assign to be just a producer, song writer and rapper, not knowing he will ends up dancing. he produce, wrote and rap years before he joined bts
17:55 If you do not know, in this song he told everything that happened to him, and all the events of the music video are real, about his mother’s illness, his father’s seizure, the traffic accident, everything is in the video, and all the lyrics of the song are from his personal life.
i really want you to listen to stay alive by jungkook prod. by suga/agust d as well as still with you by jungkook (which he produced and composed for armys)
wait, his title track trilogy is actually "AgustD"... Daechwita... then Haegum. As Haegum and Amygdala are from the same album, it doesn't really help you understand the discography in order, if you leave out his debut mixtape called "AgustD", which the title track is from
People just don't listen to him.. He said that very clearly and people are just because Amygdala has the scar "it's part of the trilogy". Sometimes I'm worried for people who claim to be fans - and do not listen to what their artist SAYS - especially about their Art... How can our genius kitty have these kind of fans.. :/ And the whole group is lead by verified genius .. Like.. Watching the trilogy all together explained to me finally what Agust D -song was about.. And well then there is the shadow songs that relate to individual songs of the trilogy Agust D & Give it to me (as me MV explains) - I don't know if Daechwita has a shadow song in his mixtape (but there is That That that has certain similar themes the ganster car {&ganster movie theme in their whole interaction}, time travelling in the historical era, ;D) - and then Haegum with it's shadow song Amygdala that kinda explains the scar (if you think about the story that kings could not have any such things as scars - it would be exactly equally inconceivable to see idol with a grotesque scar like that.. And how that is tying Agust D in first MV..), and Haegum&Amygdala pair literally _ties_ it to the Agust D MV so strongly (answering "who kidnapped him" ;D).. That man is a genius. And I Love him. ( I would marry him. ;D)
No it's not. Suga said that the triology was Daechwita, Haegum, and Amygdala. It's not a 'title track' trilogy, it's just a trilogy. Suga explained that 'Amygdala" is the final in the trilogy and explains how the Agust Ds in Daechwita and Haegum came to be.
@@Pikaxsuwhat Yoongi actually said is that Daechwita, Haegeum, Amygdala are a trilogy, and that he would like people to watch them in that order. I think people get confused because the mixtapes Agust D and D-2 along with the D-Day album are also a trilogy.
Listening to BTS song makes me feels like they’re accompanying me sitting in the corner of my dark room until I can get up on myself. They understand my sadness, my depression and my grief. They don’t force me to overcome my depression but they let me know all those feeling is valid so I can stand up by myself, for myself. They saved me through their story and their song. When people around me empathizing the toxic positivity, they cry with me, they understand me and validate my feelings. Thank you for giving BTS a chance. Love your reaction 💜
BTS is big on talking about mental illness. One of their notable ones is Blue and Gray(witten by V). As sb who did struggle and sometimes still struggles with depression, I must say Agust D is able to express things I d never be able to put on paper. The issue with the mental illness topic is that as you said - many people don t really even hear about it - and the sad part usually is that it is coz people who do struggle very rarely talk about it. Usually when you need most of the help is when you are in your most fragile state - and that is a stte where is is so scary to reach out. BTS s goal is to normalize talking about these topics, which I respect so much. I have no doubt it will help a lot of people.
1:08 Be mindful when you say "Run" in terms of BTS... There's "Run" by BTS, released in 2016 as the title track to their Most Beautiful Moment In Life Pt 2 album, there's "Run BTS" the variety show they started back in 2015, and there's "Run BTS" the song from their 2022 anthology album Proof (which is the song I think you're talking about?). Also, just as a suggestion, I don't know how much of their old stuff you've listened too (they debuted in 2013) but maybe looking at some of their older songs will help you to understand their growth. Danger, Dope, I Need U, Run, and Fire are good title tracks to check out, but also B sides like Tomorrow, Autumn Leaves, Spine Breaker, Save Me, and Baepsae (Silver Spoon).
10:46 boy, there was literally line in the lyrics: this song is about freeing what is forbidden I mean, you don't even need to decipher the meaning it is said right there
I’m literally getting exhausted explaining these music videos to people, I just tell them to Google it now or at least read about the meaning of a song before reacting to it.
Can I just say how much I love how open you are abt their music now compared to your first reaction. It's really cool to see. I was the same way when I first heard their songs when they were exploding in popularity in the US. It took me a long time to give them another shot and I'm really glad I did. Their lives, their art, is something so beautiful to watch and listen to. It's totally okay to not like everything they've ever put out, I don't like every song either. The special thing abt BTS is that they always evolve as artists, they like to explore and develop new skills all the time. It makes for amazing diversity of sound in their discography, both as solo artists and as a group. You want hiphop? They have it. R&B? Yep. City pop? Aham. Ballads? Folk? Latin pop? Pop rock? Mainstream pop? Disco? EDM? Combine all of that with amazing lyrics, messages and purpose behind each song that comes from the members themselves and it's basically impossible to not respect it all even if you don't personally like ALL of it. I was curious abt the songs you mentioned in the begining, are you sure the last song is "Run" and not "Run BTS"? Bc those are 2 different songs. "Run" is from their "Youth" trilogy albums back in 2016, and "Run BTS" is from their anthology album "Proof" from 2022. Both are great but the way you described it made me think of "Run BTS" instead of "Run". They also have a variety show where they play games and do challenges that is also called "Run BTS" (in case you want to check it out, it is hilarious) Also, if you really liked fake love you might want to check out the Rocking vibe mix, TRUST. (The extend version of the MV uses the Rocking vibe mix as the track, since you said you liked the MV a lot too, there's some extra scenes in this version) IDK if you heard abt this too, but the last 4 members (RM, V, JK and Jimin) are preparing to enlist in the military in the next few days. So it's a sad time for army lately. We'll have the first BTS member back in the middle of next year. So we got abt 6-7 months without any members. This has not happened since their debut in 2013. It's a good time to explore their entire discography bc they won't be able to consistently be putting out new music. Lastly I want to suggest Jimin's album FACE. Jimin is one of the vocalists and the EP is only around 16 min (if you don't include the english version of the song "Like Crazy") and it's beautiful storytelling meant to be listened to in order. It's abt his feelings during the pandemic.
Perhaps u can react to A Guide to BTS to see their background..u will appreciate each members' strengths n what they each bring to the group collectively n individually..n their journey to reach where they r now...the prejudice n hardship they faced.
Thank you so much for reacting to the entire trilogy uninterrupted. His live concert was every bit as captivating as his videos. Maybe even more so, because it was done live & "raw" & really showcases his genius as an artist. Every scene in his performance was created with intention by him. Steve Aoki said “SUGA is a musical genius, when I listen to his music on my own, he’s always doing something i’ll never expect. So i always expect the highest bar from SUGA.”. SUGA (short for "shooting guard", the stage name he uses in BTS & the position he played in school), aka Agustd (SUGA in reverse, dt stands for "Daegu Town", where he's from & uses as his stage name for his solo work; his real name is Min Yoongi. He has also won awards as a producer & produces for BTS. He has struggled with mental illness & has used (& continues to use) his platform to advocate for mental health. The accident in the video was real & that's why he's currently serving in the military in social service work, because of shoulder surgery he had to have because of the accident. In Daechwita, he kills the mad king version of himself; in Haegum, he kills the corrupt cop version of himself. The trilogy is all representative of his own growth & struggles throughout his life. I hope you get a chance to watch some videos from his 2023 concert tour. By the way, at his last concert performance in Seoul, he is finally able to walk through the door you saw at the end of "Amygdala". Thank you for a well done & thoughtful reaction 👍. Borahae 💜
No doubt ARMY has explained this trilogy. Suga is an amazing artist, expressing the hate he received by hiphop/rappers when he became an idol, and he also tells a story in his lyricism about his personal hardships. HIs fight with his 'Alter Ego' in a sense.
The Army in me (listen, I'm being to feel like a joined a cult 😂) but self- aware n lack the commitment to fully subscribe to even religion so I was like "screw this dude for not falling inlove with my bois". In retrospect, I needed to calm my tits (meaning calm the fire in my chest). I appreciate your honesty even when I don't always like it. It feels like it's coming from an honest place based on your preferences. 6:21 is he talking about: you didn't finish the sentence but I feel like it would have been pretty accurate. Killing his own ego. Constantly. So he doesn't become that celebrity monster with a superiority complex we see many western and internation artists fall into. It has additional layers to it but enjoy it for what it is. 6:32 what Is going on? Is the most frequently asked question by all reactors
Hey👋 it's understandable that you don't like all of their songs, I guess just respecting an artist's struggles and efforts and not to spread negativity about them is enough and appreciated. Also I suggest you to react to set me free pt2 and like crazy by Jimin
Based on the songs you liked from bts i like to suggest another grup txt they are in same company as bts I think you will like these songs❤ -0x1=lovesong(i know i love you) -growing pain -chasing that feeling -loser=lover -opening sequence -skipping stones -20cm
I will always be thankful to Yoongi for sharing his story with us.. because I know his story in Amygdala.. I cried a lot when I watched the music video for the first time.. and it was really hard for me to watch it again for a while.. even though I loved the song so much.. I don't think There are many artists who can reach our hearts in the same way that Yoongi did... especially with his latest album and his world tour. I hope that his recruitment period will go less difficult and that he will be surrounded by good people and that he will make true friendships that will last a long time. I miss him very much😢💜
i think u don’t do album reactions but just in case i really recommend u to listen to the whole D-DAY album by agust d. if u can react to one song i suggest snooze.
If you enjoy BTS's heavier hip hop songs I would definitely recommend these songs by their rapline (RM, Suga, and J-Hope): ---Ddeang ( + DKDKTV's explanation video) ---Ugh ( + DKDKTV'S explanation video) ---Outro: Tear (The live performance at Wembley) - Suga wrote this song for the other members of BTS after they considered disbanding a few years ago, because they were so overworked.
The three song titles each have an alternate or expanded definition, which I see a number of ARMY have already explained. The lyrics of the songs, especially the first two, are about his outward struggles: Dealing with haters and critics, social media, etc. The visuals in the MVs, on the other hand, are about his internal struggles, with greed and selfishness. He said in the very first BTS video that he wanted a "Big house, big cars and big rings" and he has spoken before about how greedy he was, especially in the beginning. His first mixtape has a song, Agust D, and he directly addresses some of the hate they were receiving. In Daechwita, the Agust D from that video has become a king, but the king has been corrupted by his greed and is a tyrant. A lot of the visuals are showing just how corrupted and evil he has become. The scar on over his eye represents the traumas that he has experienced and how they have marked him. That's why the scar on the king is so fresh. The bottom-class Agust D in the Daechwita MV is one who has begun to heal from those traumas, so the scar is older and more healed. The bottom-class Agust D is the boss and he kills the tyrant, taking his place. In Haegeum, The boss is a mob boss and corrupt police chief. He has also been corrupted by greed, but he is not the evil tyrant that the king was. His scar is very faded and hardly visible, indicating that he has healed a lot from the past. The 2nd Agust D in the Haegeum MV, the one who killed the guy with chopsticks, doesn't have the scar at all and he actually burns the money that the boss has been hoarding. He is no longer greedy and he has fully healed from his past traumas. He gets rid of the boss, just like the boss got rid of the king. The amygdala processes emotions, yes, but it is also related to memories. Specifically, the memories of past traumas. The amygdala helps your brain to recognize the signs of a situation developing into a trauma that you've experienced in the past, so that you can avoid it. In the lyrics and the MV, Agust D is reflecting on his memories. Yoongi/Agust D has said that we create our emotional scars ourselves, based on our responses to trauma. That's what the cutting of the scar on his face is showing and it's also why the scar had vanished from the 3rd Agust D's face. He's healed from the trauma, so he no longer bears the scars. The MV shows him trapped in those memories, unable to get free and reliving them in his dreams. That's why he's begging for the amygdala to save him. The other Agust D in this one is the fully healed Agust D and, kind of like the amygdala, is trying to save his other self from those bad memories. However, neither of them can get through the door and Yoongi is lost in his memories and depression. Yoongi's very last concert was in Seoul, just days before he went to do his civic duty. At the end of the concert, he went to a white door, off to the side of the stage. He opened the door, smiled at the crowd, and walked through it, shutting it behind himself. He couldn't get through the door in the MV, but he was able to walk through it at that concert. Lots of very powerful symbolism in this trilogy.
*Meanings for the song titles*
*Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.)
*Haegeum* - has two meanings.
My own thoughts on Agust D's Triology:
Yoongi has shared his mental health issues with us since the beginning, and he stated how some of his roughest times were in the early days, like from 2014 to 2016, how he developed social anxiety at age 18, he was dealing with depression and OCD.
In Haegeum, i interpret it as Agust D from 2020 is the Police detective/corrupt Boss, with the partially
healed scar, and the Agust D that kills, and steals the money with no scar is D-Day Agust D. But he is definitely not done yet
Finally, Yoongi went on a world tour, after this album was released, and at the Final concert, he was very emotional, and had his BTS Bros. and his PEERS there with him.

He produced, wrote and composed all of this 3 songs. I just love how vulnerable he is with his art and i miss him rn 😅
Exactly in order to know and understand his music or what he's talking about you have to understand he writes his music from his own life and the experiences he's gone through. I miss him too.
feel like the message is he is setting himself free
Suga (aka Agust D) has suffered greatly with mental health. Mental Health is a no no topic in South Korea but BTS talk, rap and sing about it and it's personal. He wrote, composed, and Produced them all he also wrote the story boards for the MV's.
agree with everything but mental health is not a no no topic in south korea in present time. the country suffers from a huge mental health crisis and people are always actively trying to make it a norm. it's not a no no topic.
@@vmj7366 Not now it's much much better now but at the time of it wasn't something that was talked about openly.
I'm 66 year old. I love Suga!!!!! I also love his podcast. Good food, good drink and good conversation. You rock that!!!!!😊
@@vmj7366 the country is suffering a major mental health crisis precisely because it was and still is a no no topic.
The scar represents his trauma as he considers it a self-inflicted wound due to not being able to deal with and process all the bad things that happened in his life, such as his mental health struggles with anxiety, social anxiety, OCD and depression, his self harm, his mother and father's life threatening illnesses, his accident that nearly ended his career when he was still a trainee and led to living secretly with, and managing the pain of, his shattered shoulder for 7 years before finally getting surgery to rebuild it, his other near death experiences like his burst appendix when they were on tour, as well as not getting enough love as a child, his parents being adamantly opposed to his music career, etc
In a nutshell - in the first song, Daechwita (Daych-whi-Tah with a very soft w) he is battling and killing his rage and paranoia represented by the paranoid and bloodthirsty mad king who is blonde like Yoongi in BTS early years.
I left out many details but some things to note:
A Daechwita is played for the coming of the King or Army or a Changing of the Guard.

Hey! I just wanted to comment something I really appreciate about you that might seem weird at first but hear me out:
I love that you straight out tell your opinion.
I know they are not perfect at all and they try different genre so its logical that we all like or dislike different things (thats the most interesting)
I hope you keep your videos this way! Thanks for your nicely done videos.
Wow! I appreciate that!

You should also know that:
1)their albums are thematic and built around a concept.
Not at all, thank you!
The lyrics in the bridge sum up the main theme of this song really well:
"I got everything I ever wanted....
.....Yeah, what's next
Here comes my reality check
There's nowhere higher
I only looked up and now I want to look down
And put my feet on the ground."
There's so much more to the Deachwita MV, tons of clever historical references and easter eggs. I'm sure other ARMYs will help out in the comments. 😁
Thanks for checking out BTS and for giving your honest opinions. 💜
You are really good at interpretation, thank you.
PLEASE DO!!🙏😎
Yesss! Dkdktv explains a lot on the korean cultures behind BTS songs, their explanation on Ddeang is good too 👍🏻
Just going to mention that as others have said he produces his own songs.

Jimin's album "Face" is a real pop gem , hip hop and R&B, with a very specific universe to the one whose voice is close to that of the angels, the album "Indigo" by RM the leader of the group, a rap full of poetry, depth and creativity, the J hope album "jack in the box", a dark and committed rap and so high quality! finally jin's solo song released just before his departure for military service as a gift to fans.
mmmm and d day?
and the Agust D trilogy. D- Day full of masterpieces of songwriting and cinematography.
And don't forget Suga's album D-DAY who in the first time in history according to Hanteo chart Agust D the first rapper in history that

I have different playlist for different occasion. I never bored of their songs.
There is no official video for but it is worth checking out
I'm not even sure if he meant to do this but side note where he's crawling on the ground up of the incline in the ring unable to get out or to even reach the door to try but is still me trying to free himself is exactly what having anxiety and depression feels like.
Thanks for breaking that down
next song the last, give it to me, agust d by Agust d 🔥🔥
Amygdala is a prequel to the other two.
He shows us how he got the scar.
He mentions that the scars we have in life are made by us.
So Daechwita has a very scarred Yoongi fighting his two personas.
Haegeum has one with a nearly healed scar and the other with no scar.
In his final D-Day concert Yoongi goes through that white door to the other side.
He's healed now

Alright so I will try to explain the Meaning of each song for you:
DAECHWITA:
Daechwita is actually a traditional Korean musical genre born in the late Joseon dynasty, which used to be performed in royalty processions, was characterized by including wind instruments and percussion.
HAEGEUM:
The word “haegeum” has different meanings in Korean. It describes a traditional Korean instrument (which can be heard in the instrumentals of the track),
but it can also mean the lifting of a ban/prohibition.
AMYGDALA:
To better understand this track, one must first understand the amygdala’s function in the brain.
In a way, we’re responsible for all our own wounds and scars.”
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND THE TRILOGY WAY BETTER :)

Every BTS Member is a deep thinker and has a lot of beautiful stories in their songs you just have to open your mind even more and you will understand.
Please Check out JIMIN work NEXT ! ^.^ Do an album review for his SOLO EP - FACE with MV's and Live Performances! Thank you!
Thus is an excellent breakdown!
@@MariaChavez-ey5sr thank you😉💜
Beautifully explained. thank you fellow ARMY.Missss youngi more now.😢
It's great ❤
this is one of the best explanations of the trilogy ive ever read. thank you Army. i agree that all their songs esp the solos have special stories. i particularly love the story and the poetry of THE TRUTH UNTOLD.
Haegeum it seem is inspired a bit by the Jocker but also by his MV "Daewchita" and I think the movie Scarface
In their discography, BTS has already touched on deep themes and psychological themes.
On those BTS albums they seek to generate a journey towards the encounter with ourselves and the acceptance of the "I" among them the integration of our polarity, be it feminine or masculine... and for this reason a lot of vibrant tone is used in this video and shades of pink in the color palette of the video)
Returning to Haegeum.. here the chief of police is the one who killed the tyrant king in Daewchita, who has now become corrupted with power... For me it symbolizes Suga's shadow, which is in his unconscious mind due to his traumas and which he seeks kill whenever he feels he is taking off and gaining more power... a part of him reveals himself to the re-installation of the tyrant and kills him
Suga is well known for his deep lyrics... He usually talks about mental health, self love, self discovery, politics, social issues, reflects about Life and people.. although he does have trash songs for haters (they have received a lot of hate, criticism and even injustice and mistreatment as artists by Korean media trough their career). Please try to pay attention to the lyrics
About Amygdala (a region on the brain primarily involved in the processing of emotions and memories associated with fear. Is part of the limbic system within the brain and is key to how we process strong emotions like fear or pleasure. The name amygdala is derived from the Greek word amygdale, meaning “almond,” owing to the structure’s almondlike shape)
Much of the video refers to an accident Suga suffered shortly before debuting in 2012 while working as a delivery boy to pay for his studies while he was a Bighit trainee. Eventually he told the company and they paid his treatment and his studies... after debuting, he had injections and therapies for years until he could not postpone his surgery because over time and being an idol with intense choreography, the injury worsened so he underwent surgery for the pandemic and was offstage for about 4 months while he recovered
In other songs he's released in the past as Agust D, on mixtapes for Soundcloud, he talks about his depression, social anxiety and panic attacks...I think it's the first time he's commented on his father's cancer... he found out while he was fulfilling his schedule with BTS (which has been very tight and demanding and he probably could not be with his father as long as he would have wanted due to being under contract and his corresponding obligations)
When the wound is inflicted on the face, I think it seeks to reflect how it has hurt itself in the past (the mind of a depressed person, we already know that it hurts itself a lot and he mentioned in one of his songs that he have thought about s*u*i*c*i*d*e in the past) and I also think it represents the birth of your alter ego Agust D which would allow him to externalize his shadows in parallel to BTS
When he says: I don't know your name, I think he refers to himself... to that shadow in his unconscious mind... in his song "The Last" he mentioned that his father told him they didn't know him... and he commented that if he did not know himself, how would other people would get to know him? and he also mentioned that sometimes he was afraid of himself
By the end he is rushing to save himself but he can't open the door, to my is becaused Agust D represents his traumas lodged in the past... and the past cannot be changed 🤔
Although I think that now at this moment he is more at peace with himself, it seems that during the pandemic that shadow returned for a while like many other people who found themselves in a dark place during that period but finally he was able to heal more of his wounds and that is why D-Day arrives (name of his Album and one of his songs)
This song is inspired by a book that Yoogi read called "Almond", is about the story of a young man with a disease that prevents him from recognizing and expressing emotions, and which is associated with an undergrowth of the cerebral amygdala, usually the size of an almond. It's a story about growing up, discovering yourself, and accepting that help doesn't always come where we expect it.
Suga is his stage name with BTS... Agust D is when he releases solo music (in Kpop the artists.. known as Idols, don't usually curse... Althoug the rap line have broke that rule when they sing solo or as a rap unit) so is his way to separate his public BTS Persona known as Suga, in order to be able to express himself more freely without affecting the image of the group
Regards from Mexico
It's great to make comparison, but let's not tell things as facts when they aren't. Suga never said the Joker or Scarface were inspiration for either of those MVs. He never mentions the Joker and then a character from Scarface was inspiration for 'Tony Montana' but not Daechwita. Also, 'Almond' isn't the inspiration of Amgygala. It's one allusion used in the MV, but again, he never said it was 'inspired' by that book. Also, Boy With Luv represents the 'persona', not the 'anima.'
Fyi...😮at AgustD's D-Day TheFinal concert in Seoul, AgustD finally made it through the door, saving himself.
@@Mark-vj7zd She was part of the royal family is what I meant sorry for any confusion. The Empress.
리액션이 디테일 하고 고급스러워요❤
좋아요~!! 감사합니다.
He writes and produces all his own music. A genuine talent.
on one side, the first two MVs are like (corrupt) government vs. ordinary people
but on the other side of the whole story, it's about SUGA fighting with his old self which is why Daechwita have the contrast of old and modern theme, it's also like a fight within himself to not get swept away by his current status as a member of the biggest group.. kinda like killing this negative idea before it consumes you..
AMYGDALA is actually his life story. the self inflicted scar can represent as is, he tried to harm himself. and he carried that scar as he fought himself through his fame
he had another song from 2016 that also talks about his struggles which made us aware of them, but seeing it is on another level.
anyway, his first mixtape imo was more brutal than these songs. SUGA was an angry young adult. angry at his old peers from the underground, angry at the kpop system and angry at the people who always belittle BTS. he was blond then that's why the mad king on Daechwita is also blond.. recently, during his promotion for his album, he said that he's not angry anymore and said that he might not produce music as Agust D for a while cause from the start, Agust D was his outlet to express his unfiltered thoughts and anger
lol it's Agust D not August D. If you read it backwards, it means D(aegu) T(own) Suga.
0-0 Thanks! Didn't catch that.
Fixed :)
you're welcome :). Looking forward to watch the video.
I really enjoy your video, it was so honest and real. and agust d produce his own songs and most of bts songs , he is truly the best producer and song writer.
i hope you dive into their b-sides because as much as title tracks like run and fake love are great, their b-sides are 1000% greater
maybe you could do full album reactions starting off from their debut and moving up
He also has a very personal song that is about that, what he went through and continues to deal with depression is called "the Last"
This song breaks me every time I hear it.

I recommend you check these songs of one of the other rappers of the group J-hope next:
Arson
Ego

Theres a lot of symbolism and meaning in Daechwita that carried away to the 2nd unril to the 3rd of the trilogy songs.
The scar n his face has a big significant . Suga's songs are always deep and theres akways storyline on it.
Not to mentioned his MV is like a movie, cinematography a top notch, visual, rap and lyrics is just everything is tge best!!
After seeing Thumbnail....i clicked without seeing the title ..... because i can never ignore suga 💜
Hope you enjoy all of them 😊
Interlude : shadow
UGH
I want to recommend them for next time.
Going to recommend meaningful and lyrically strong songs:
1) The last - Agust D
2) Nevermind - BTS
3) 2! 3! - BTS
4) Answer: Love myself - BTS
5) Spring day - BTS (my fav)
6) Tomorrow - BTS
7) The truth untold- BTS
8) Whalien 52 - BTS
9) Paradise - BTS
10) Boy meets evil - BTS
AgustD writes, composes and produces all his songs, he is a great artist. Their 3 albums are wonderful. And not only that, he is also the creative mind behind the MVs, he thinks of everything.
Suga is a genius. He writes, performs and produces, he even has a large input for the videos. We are all missing him so much at the moment.
Other songs by him
First love,
Snooze,
People,
Seesaw.
You should hear 'So Far Away' - (Suga, Jin, Jungkook version) if you like deep lyrics. It made me re-think me life everytime I listened to it.
Also, it means to lift a ban or release what is forbidden.
fun fact about yoongi (suga) is that he actually produced one of the most recent samsung ringtones lol
My bias is V but Suga's DDay is amazing. Good nusix good artist are just that. I was fortunate to see his concert in Singapore. Amazingggg! Really intense and emotional. Do watch and react to the mv like Snooze.
Song recommendations to check out:
More by J-Hope
Snooze by Agust D - one of my favssss
Wildflower by RM
The entire Mono album by RM is gorgeous and very very introspective. My favourite on there is Moonchild.
Like Crazy by Jimin
Those are some of my fav solo works by the BTS members :)
I didn't always love all of their songs, but when I understood their meanings, it changed how I consumed music. I found that I enjoyed listening to these songs just because I appreciated the lyricism and artistry even if the song style didn't suit me.
Same for me... The lyrics are really important.
Same with me. Im not so into rap actually, but their rap songs are just different and i love it.
BTS has very deep messages, in most of their songs so, fake love has a deeper meaning.
jimin’s next👀
👀
Yes pls 💕
Yoongi: So my mom had to have heart surgery, I was in an accident that shattered my shoulder but I couldn't even talk about it, my dad had cancer and I got severe depression
You: That's rough buddy
😂😂😂
Daechwita is actually usually used as procession music for kings.
Proof live 'born singer' 추천해요. Bts의 편곡도 가사도 그리고 밴드 악기 소리 미쳤다.
Hey Isaac, these videos use a lot of traditional Korean instruments which I really enjoy. The BTS rappers have taught this old lady to appreciate rap and its art form. :)
Have you watched Jung Kook’s live @iHeart radio performance of “Standing Next to You”? It is with a live band and as a composer you might enjoy that (if you like retro funk). He also put out a remix of the song with Usher. Just a suggestion. You are a lot pickier on music than me. My mother was a really good musician and I was brought up
listening to all sorts of things, so thankfully I love more than I don’t love. :)
I recommend you to react to The Last. It's also from him and it explains a lot
oh AGUST D bts main producer, beside RM and JHOPE. he mostly self produce his solo stuffs. he originally assign to be just a producer, song writer and rapper, not knowing he will ends up dancing. he produce, wrote and rap years before he joined bts
17:55 If you do not know, in this song he told everything that happened to him, and all the events of the music video are real, about his mother’s illness, his father’s seizure, the traffic accident, everything is in the video, and all the lyrics of the song are from his personal life.
i really want you to listen to stay alive by jungkook prod. by suga/agust d as well as still with you by jungkook (which he produced and composed for armys)
love that one
wait, his title track trilogy is actually "AgustD"...
Dkdktv explains the meanings of these songs really well
Agust D is amazing. Haegeum also means freedom or liberation from something which is what he is singing about.
In amygdala this is all the traumatic evemts that suga went through from the car accident to parents health amd him dealing with depression.
I have tattoos of daechwita amygdala also suga agustd
Since you're a huge fan of stories, I think you should check out The Rise of Bangtan series
10:46 boy, there was literally line in the lyrics: this song is about freeing what is forbidden
I mean, you don't even need to decipher the meaning it is said right there
I’m literally getting exhausted explaining these music videos to people, I just tell them to Google it now or at least read about the meaning of a song before reacting to it.
They also have a variety show where they play games and do challenges that is also called "Run BTS" (in case you want to check it out, it is hilarious)
Also, if you really liked fake love you might want to check out the Rocking vibe mix, TRUST. (The extend version of the MV uses the Rocking vibe mix as the track, since you said you liked the MV a lot too, there's some extra scenes in this version)
IDK if you heard abt this too, but the last 4 members (RM, V, JK and Jimin) are preparing to enlist in the military in the next few days.
Daechwita: Deh-chee-TA
Haegum: Heh-geum (geum is one syllable, not gee-um)
Amygdala: Uh-MIG-duh-luh (In Korea they pronounce it Ahmig-dah-LAH)
Thanks!! 😅
Borahae 💜
It was so awesome to see him turn around and smile…. Love Yoongi,
At part 3:15 he didn't notice Jin and Jungkook acting in the background there 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
No doubt ARMY has explained this trilogy.
Based on the songs you liked from bts i like to suggest another grup txt they are in same company as bts

I’m thinking about doing album reviews. Possibly putting the full album reaction as a members only option. But we’ll see. Thanks for the suggestion.
If you enjoy BTS's heavier hip hop songs I would definitely recommend these songs by their rapline (RM, Suga, and J-Hope):
---Ddeang ( + DKDKTV's explanation video)
---Ugh ( + DKDKTV'S explanation video)
---Outro: Tear (The live performance at Wembley) - Suga wrote this song for the other members of BTS after they considered disbanding a few years ago, because they were so overworked.
These are some my favorites from BTS
I just love the Rap line 💜
