I think the problem is- the climate politically speaking is either woke or non-woke, nothing in-between. In this polarizing time, when you go against those who are angry about the female custodes it automatically puts you in the opposite side. I do think when you say things like "also, I'm not a racist" do not help dispel the thoughts of those who put you on a blacklist, It could be seen as implying that people who disagree with you, and deemed you as "woke" are, and I dont think its fair to paint with such a large brush on that one, even if its done in satire. I think the best thing to do would be just to not wade into politics. Those are just my thought, do what seemeth good in your eyes. Peace be with you.

OPR is the best, I just made a viking army rule set to use for both aos and gdf, now im making a imperium esc army but so far its just an army book containing regular human army forces and a basic combat squad of relatively lore accurate space marines.
Surely not one of those alternatives mentioned with "great lore"

With the bans they can give the impression that the Warhammer 40K fan community is for this (because everyone not for it is banned), but in reality this just makes this whole situation worse and radicalizes people who get banned and who think this behavior is unjust. What does getting banned mean, can they no longer purchase Warhammer things? Have there pictures been sent to every LGS to make sure the ban sticks? Do you believe Games Workshop cares what their players on message boards think? Oh you sweet summer child. They have one of the worst reputations in the tabletop space and their video games have been wildly inconsistent for years. Until it affects their bottom line, they are happy that Warhammer is being talked about at all. GW were most likely giddy when the story got picked up by the likes of Phillip Defranco.

Wargaming isn't just GW scifi/ fantasy. Tons of historical and other sci fi/ fantasy games out there. You name a period, there's probably rules / figures for it. Just go to a site like Northstar Games, Brigade Games, Warlord Games to see a selection of various rule/ figure types. The list is very, very long of other games.
For me, it’s not that they made Custodes also female, it’s that they ignored the badass females that already work WITH the Custodes.

I'm from 1989. Where Astartes Custodes are not space marines. They are the Emperors' personal guard. Not allowed to leave the Imperial Castle grounds. Maybe if Earth is itself is under attack, confined to Terran. (Originally, they were Imperial Custodes) 🤕
There was no mention of them all being male there either. So they were probably equal opportunity in their toplessness and leather pants.

When I get upset at a company, it usually takes me about 10 years to revisit the offending company. I received some raw burger buddies from Burger King back around 1990 or so. I didn't buy anything from Burger King until 2004. While dinning at a local Perkins Restaurant, I received silverware that had dried food on it. I got up, left the establishment and didn't return to a Perkins for over 10 years.
Games Workshop Upgraded Epic and then got rid of Epic. It took me at least 5 years to really look at buying any 40K models.
Same here. After the Gilette woke commercial scandal I quit buying any Gilette products and the second place on my "avoid forever list" is logitech cause of their business keyboards which are designed in a way that disables left shift + space "cause it is not a gaming keyboard".

Unfortunately, that company also learned some of GW's shady practices and now it is almost forgotten (don't know if they still release new miniatures).

I used to be one of their Pressgangers until they ended that program. Since then they've gone downhill.
Because Privateer Press sabotaged themselves and haven't recovered from it.
They practice the collectable trading card game release model. That means they have to purge their range every few years and force everyone to buy new stuff. My circle is proudly displayed in my case, but it's not so playable. The community in Ontario died sometime in 3rd, but I quit after the 3rd edition playtest.

Warhammer actually is unique - not in terms of quality or the topic covered, but quantity.
The amount of novels published about it is immense, even if I personally don't understand their appeal.
Regarding the drinkers video, I believe that he was saying that while Astartes are bad ass, the Custodes are a tier or 2 above them. Hence the entire introduction of the Space Marines.
Hes also spoken of Warhammer in many of his streams, highlighting his enjoyment of the setting/models.
Hes also 100% bang on with his observations regarding this whole thing, something which no one has really tried to address. Most seem content to call him a tourist without actually explaining why he may be off base.

I'm not suprised anymore, seeing as GW has been messing about with the lore in a half baked way for some time now and creating promising things only to ignore them shortly afterwards, that or screwing things up.
Like the Necrons becoming more akin to the tomb kings from the now zombified warhammer fantasy battles or the way they went about the lore for the primaries, as well as letting us think the squats are coming back as a faction (instead of small groups in other GW ganes) only to reveal nope its like squats but not squats.
For me the way they scrapped on us chaos space marines and removing any options for chaos marines in the imperial armoury list.
So I can understand how female Custodies lore was the last straw for so many people, more so with the way GW has been dealing with this issue in the typical half thought out knee jerk way it often does.
I would not be suprised if GW hates us customers/fans base but loves our money.

The Black Library is a form of Marketing. People who are getting in to the game may check out some of the books that pertain to the armies they are looking to play. After reading the Lore, they will most likely have a better idea of what models they want to invest in. Also people who already play the game may pick read Warhammer books and buy more models because they were inspired by further reading of the Lore.
Iv spent over 10k on Warhammer minis and books love the lore I have no problem with women in Warhammer it’s just the massive dump on the lore and the lying it could of been handled better

A huge amount of warhammer "players" like me, aren't real wargamers, yet spend a lot of money on GWs products. We buy the miniatures and rule books (for the lore and because they are awesome), paint the things and collect armies, without playing the actual tabletop game for years.
Yeeah, it's not the first time I feel like she's a little too focused on the player's part of the customers, even though polls show that something like 40% of GW customers collect miniature but don't play ˆˆ

Big difference here, with the last Star Wars Trilogy it was completely rushed with no coherent story in place. Nothing planned out at all. It was just a money grab and it really shows. Outside of that, I really hear nothing but mostly good things about Star Wars, it's just those movies for the most part that was the problem. That and just how pushed Rey was.

This anger, however widespread it might really be (my guess is "not very"), is all strange to me, as I am pretty sure I have a female space marine miniature Citadel/GW released in the 80s, and I certainly have multiple female Imperial Guard miniatures made by Citadel/GW. So while they have never made many female models for the Imperium of Man, women have been officially part of the Imperium's armed forces from a very early stage. Why wouldn't there be female Custodes?

Anuerin Bevan was a monster. He was responsible for the destruction of the network of charity hospitals which existed prior to the State-controlled NHS. He replaced efficient, caring hospitals with what we've got now.

I was into warhammer since the mid 90s. I've abandoned GW utterly in the past few years. My group stopped playing shortly after 9th edition. Tried a couple of 10th edition game and gave it away.
I don't even download free copies of the codex anymore.
One Page Rules is so much better.
Recently we have started playing Kings of War as well.
Ill probably keep listening to the audiobooks but I certainly won't be paying for any of them.

my issue with the whole thing is that nothing needed to change, there was already plenty of badass female representation and the fact that it wasnt enought and that they changed it because of a minority of people that wanted it just spells trouble with the future, are we going to get Trans marines next or Angron is going to come out as gay??? changes like this WILL kill the game.
I mean realistically some space marines may be trans guys and you'd never know with how roided out they are, plus they don't have sex anyways lol though yeah this is definitely going to hurt their profits.

Space marines already are trans. They're transhuman. They literally take copious amounts of hormones to function. They have had every gender affirming surgery imaginable to become the ultimate male killing machine. There's a reason Warhammer has been so popular with trans people besides the fact that we are all autistic. Outside of this you're coping and seething about something that's never going to happen.
My favorite bit on this was on the podcast Trashfuture where one of the hosts said about a Daily Mail article "Now I didn't know they included woke points in the army balance"
If after all the insane price gouging, the $400 FOMO short run special boxed armies to get one damn model, the endless retcons, the churning of codexes so expensive models have an expiration date, the ever endless power creep, and the entire shitty way GW has treated supporters over the last almost 30 years, I'm going to simply die laughing if all it took to bring GW to its knees was the rumor they're putting titties on a Space Marine model. Oh my god, that is f'ing hilarious!!! I love wargaming but there's way too many far better games with excellent backstories to much care what GW does these days.

The Wargaming and the Warhammer Hobby are quite distinct. They look similar but they really are not.
The thing is, IMO, it's really about all the things you just mentioned. A lot of times when married couples blow up and initiate a divorce, it's over some incredibly petty thing that just becomes a flashpoint for years of resentment and mistrust over far more significant factors that just never got resolved.
People have been bottling it up for ages over how GW has treated this franchise and its fans, and this may just be the tiny puff of air that finally makes the bottle burst.

It's a hobby built around a wargame. The only thing that's been consistent throughout 40K's history is the fact that it's a game. Some hobbyists may only participate in parts of the hobby, some collect models, some are focused on the lore, some are obsessed with tournaments while others prefer casual games... Some do all of it, some only do certain parts of it... and all those folks are 40k hobbyists. But from the start, it was a game and everything around it exists because of the game. If 40k the game dies, it all dies. GW is a game company.

I am playing One Page Rules and have been loving it so much more. And using non games workshop models. "Piper makes" is an incredible 3d stl creator for tau and eldar.

If the "WHY" is politically motivated to push an agenda, for instance an agenda based on personal ideologies, then it's a problem. If that's the reason then it's not being done for the betterment of the IP, which is always a problem.

I'm taking those Little Green Army Men toys you can get in buckets for about $20 and using those incorporated into my WWII: Operation Whitebox games. So much less expensive and a hell of a lot more fun. No putting things together, no painting, no pain in the ass, no fuss. Just straight up fun. The sculpts ain't great but they don't have to be perfect, they just need to work

I’ve liked most of your content and I agree that minis should be cheaper, but claiming that a person is a “casual” fan because they care about the lore is a pretty low blow, particularly since you have to be aware of the “filthy casual” meme. The fact that you have to justify it here and it just makes you sound worse doesn’t help, particularly since you throw the “I’m not racist!” In here. I agree our hobbies should be cheaper, I can’t agree that retcons are just great and if you care about them, you’re a lesser fan.
Where can I find this "blacklist?" I need more wargaming in my feed, and that sounds like a good start.

Two, the problem has never been about female anything. It is about cultural capture, which why the "retcon" occurred.

They over the Beasts of Chaos to the Old World, where they originally belonged, and you're free to continue to play Beasts of Chaos, you'll even have free rules contrary to everyone else who'll have to pay 45 bucks for their rules XD
Aside from that they're retiring some miniatures, like they regularly do, because GW don't really intend to keep production of all their miniatures for ever. Plus, we know that some if not most of them are going to be replaced by new models, so it'll likely be a win ˆˆ

Yep, expecially as GW are now just a bunch of money grabbing shits. Our lassie here is right about other rule sets though; there are any number of rule sets that can be used to fight Grim Dark games and there are an awful lot of alternative figures out there.
Games like Xenos Rampant, 30k, 40k, aliens, bug hunting, zombies you can stat the lot and use any figures you want.

Female Inquisitors wear power armor sometimes, so that doesn't make sense even then.
The issue with space marines isn't the power armour, it's that they're very inhuman mutants and it's been long estabilished that this process only works on barely-teen males, since it hijacks the regular development process (and produces stuff like extra hearts)
The rumour goes (and I'm not saying I necessarily believe it) that Amazon wanted a female marine, GW and Henry said 'no, that's against the lore, how about a Sororitas instead?', Amazon didn't fancy that as too religious (dumb if true, have they even met the Imperium?), GW/Henry said 'ok, how about an Inquisitor then?', Amazon said 'no, we want her to still be superhuman out of the armour', so GW/Henry held their noses and offered a Custodes as a compromise.

If anything Nakama is erroneously remembered as some inventor or religious guy who invented one of the founding computer principles in programming. I stayed away from Warhammer 40k since 6th ed. The "People" really put me off. I started a new Admech army a month ago. Now we have all this rubbish. I played since Rogue Trader. You know something. IDGAF about female GSM or even SM. I really don't care. It is kind of putting me off playing again.
I don't think that you grasp the core of the issue with long term fans of the Grim Dark in 40k.
Sure Gee-Dubs have made some more changes, but all where aimed at more sales, like Primaris Marines, which is a ploy to resell plastic to all wargamers who already have a massive marine collection.
But Gee-Dubs going full woke, step by step and ruining the complete lore in the process is what gets people up in arms.
They once fell in love with the dark setting of 40k where there is no any good faction as they all are just genocidal factions vying for total domination of the galaxy.
As people have seen what happened to Star Wars and LotR, the feel the urge of protecting what they love.
And gaslighting the community to include females into the custodes, without making any models for them is clearly an ideological shift.

I really got into test of honour. It's given me reason to learn about sengoku jedai japan history to make my ashigaru light foot in historically acurate coloured armour and setup good scenarios.
to answer the boycott question: the people I have talked to are unsubscribing from Warhammer+, and we are switching to 3d printing. we are model painters and we play the table top. I am really liking the new one page game, where we can play with whatever figurines we want, and the game is straight up. we also have groups that stick to the older codex's you can have your own thing outside of games workshop. you are right in that it probably wont make a difference, but we can choose to use or money for other games that line up better with our ideals.
to be clear, I don't mind female custodes. what we mind are the reasons behind the change. the motivations to insert DEI into everything. that is the issue. no one really talks about the argument. they point to the individuals and call us names to deflect from the primary argument. it is dismissive and disingenuous. gaslighting at it's finest.

Primaris Space Marines bother me more than female Space Marines or female Adeptus Custodes, at least from a lore standpoint. It implies The Emperor of All Mankind made an oversight when creating the hierarchy of superhumans, and that just flies in the face of all the lore. Female Space Marines have roots in the old Rogue Trader models, so anyone complaining about them might want to check their 1987/1988 copies of White Dwarf.

Back a year or so ago there was a glut of former WH40K players moving over to Battletech in the wake of GW cracking down on fan stuff (or something). There is some conceptual overlap there. BT also imagines a future at war with extensive lore going back farther than Warhammer by a few years. The "vattlemechs" have become more aesthetically pleasing over time and paint up nicely. However it's strictly humans fighting it out. Instead of massed armies of infantry supported by vehicles it's a more limited number of "big stompy robots" duking it out supported by tanks and some power-armour infantry. I think it's comparable to Epic scale and so everything but the mechs looks tiny. It's not quite as baroque as WH40 so you won't be painting anything like a space marine biting the ear off the severed head of a space Ork and writing love letters to the Emperor in its blood on his armour.

Far too many people associate their love (obsession) of one brand with the "Hobby". Don't dislike GW for the wAMeN (Because that's stupid), dislike them for the price model and the suits that focus on your wallets.
There are so many more wargames out there.
One Page Rules is great for mini-agnostic games that will allow you to use that big gw collection.
Star Wars Legion if you like robust mechanics and the pew pews and zoom zooms.
Blood Black if you like horror, chaos and RUclipsrs ;)
Star / Frost Grave if you like modular teams, campaign play and some pretty nifty spells / abilities. (Pushing one of your own units all the way across the map to the objective, teleporting to him, then pushing him all the way off the map, because it's faster than him running, is a perfectly valid strategy)
Explore, play new games, and if you still go back to GW because the models are great and the community is... very large... then that's fine. But at least you can say you know what else is out there!
For reference; I’ve been collecting minis since the mid 90s, and reading 40k books since 2003. By far my favorite IP.
The current situation is not shocking; it’s just another straw.
We’ve watched beloved IPs destroyed wholesale over the last decade; and these are just rumblings of another IP potentially collapsing.
I love minis, lore, and gaming; but maybe it’s time for a one page rules type gaming system and head cannon. I can create whatever I’d like, and pull minis from where ever I’d like. My vampire counts can continue to shuffle forward in the same universe as my dnd games; and my IWs can be adapted to a fun new gothic horror sci-fi setting. It’ll be a fun fantasy sci-fi universe to explore with my family.
Bad writing happens, and opinions vary (not everyone gets triggered over a black mermaid for example) - but it’s a fallacy to say that ‘woke=bad’ - new Fallout show is a perfect example, plenty woke but great writing so it’s a great show

You're probably not going to read this but I'm going to add my two cents anyway...😒.. I'll be honest I recently got into the Warhammer genre Lore about a year and a half maybe 2 years ago, 🤨 my friend kept giving me his spare game books. Now when I read this Lore first off, the one thing I noticed about the emperor is that he always keeps two types of bodyguards around him, the adeptus custodes and these chicks in the golden armor call the sisters of silence. 🤔Now at first I thought the sisters of silence were actually a part of the custodians Branch just a separate secret branch. This is one of the reasons why I figured that when they said that there's always been female custodies I figured oh so they're finally going to give the sisters of silence their own army, their own shock troopers, their own air units, their own tanks & specialized Commander units. 😒 Unfortunately this was not the case they just wanted to add in four different female custodies characters...🤨... Which really doesn't make sense ,female custodies is an issue. 🧐... Now before you go postal on me, here's my argument; in the past the emperor of mankind was one of the very few human beings that was aware that chaos was an actual threat. He also seemed to understand which people and which genders are more susceptible to it. We know this because in the sisters of battle, No sisters of battle character has fallen to korn,nurgle or tizznitch however, the sister of battle known as Mirida..🤔...(I think that's her name) Has fallen to Slaanesh! I believe this is one of the key reasons why he also decided to forgo having 10 sons and 10 daughters as primarchs, as was suggested by his best friend malcador. 🤨 To be blunt I believe the emperor did not create female custodians due to the fact that they might be more susceptible to falling to chaos...🤔.. I mean come on think about it, we've already seen chaos space Marines imagine if you were to see a chaos custodies! 😱This is my theory due to the fact that he did have an incredible amount of foresight.
It's the same dozen+ channels that hop onto these topics constantly, at one point or another I watched some of their content and thought hmm, fair enough, but it got gradually worse for most of these channels. It's insane how often yt randomly throws me these vids in my feed just cause I liked to watch the occassional movie or show review. Also literally every video is called sth. like "Henry Cavill "leaves, is mad, hates, threatens, is feared, outraged" or w/e, but from what I can tell he hasn't really made any public statements in that regard? Def. not to the extend it's claimed.
