tottaly disagree warhammer 40k isn't about who is stronger. I would say we from the start know a lot about some characters who are over any powerlimits, about gods etc. warhammer 40k main theme is - suffer. it doesn't metter who you are - you will suffer non stop. even primarhson of living god. the normal people litteraly belive that primarh is gods - and still the suffer. the whole races are suffering always close to be destroyed the suffer. even necrons who are race of soulless robots who are overpowered in wh40k universe and the race who killed or slaved their own gods - they are suffering. I would say I do not remmember any big victory in wh40k at all. yes you can win a battle or something like that . even stoping horus herecy doesn't feel like victory at all. every victory more looks like just like complete 1 task at the work . Even Kadia. yes for imperial it is a lost. but for chaos is it victory? it is like more 1rst step. and for some people Kadia fall - make some of them stronger

    Funny story about Orks
A group of guardsmen and their commisar are holding out against a wave of orks, and eventually they run out of power packs for their lasguns. Unfased, the commisar picks up a guardsman's weapon, points it at an oncoming ork, yells "BANG!", and the ork falls dead. Amazed, the guardsmen follow suit, orks falling left and right. A few minutes later, a group of orks come running towards the position, not dropping to the men's loudest 'bang's; only when they get closer do the guardsmen hear them chanting "I'm a tank I'm a tank I'm a tank!".

If you can give me the actual calibre and fire rate i can do some basic, rough, translation from terms of .75 at 2x SOS to whatever the assault cannon would do. With fire rate i could then give a rough guess of how long it would last. Also, how long would a SM stand up under an assault cannon out of curiosity? My money's on the shields over the SM tbh.

I would add that from a storywriting perspective, 40k really benefits from being set in a 'fallen' or 'post-peak' universe: Each faction (minus the Tau) there *was* much stronger in the distant past, but lives on as a shadow of its former glory. This gives stories two major advantages: you can pull a superweapon into the plot with an easy justification ("ancient archaeotech weapon that was long-forgotten and just recently rediscovered") and just as quickly write it out of any future stories ("It broke and we don't have the schematics/It got possessed by a Daemon/AdMech filed it away on a Forge world for 5,000 years of study before they might let you have it back").
Even when the writers don't explicitly write those explanations in, it lets readers seamlessly fill in the blanks themselves. By comparison, in almost all of the other sci-fi universes mentioned, it's hard to explain why the protagonists (or antagonists) suddenly got their hands on some superweapon/near-magic tech. "How did Scotty/the Empire/ONI just suddenly *have* this technology? When/how did they develop it? Why wasn't it used earlier? Why doesn't it show up in later stories set in this universe?"
This helps paper over some of the lore inconsistencies in 40k (and there's quite a few...) and other writing errors, making the universe as a whole feel more believable despite the comedically over-the-top nature of the setting.

They had whole caches of these guys sitting on ice for thousands of years since the Imperium's Golden Age until Big G would wake up and give them their marching orders.
To compare it to Halo this isn't the Spartans being created, this is the Didact returning and bringing the Prometheans with him or the Protoss awakening Spear of Adun and then warriors sleeping on it.

It doesn't help in my opinion. Because if it was as useful as its supposed to be, surely it would be a top priority to find and recover.

At that kind of power based on sheer thrust to weight ratios, a Space marine taking a torso shot from a lasgun would go flying several dozen meters like a small car being slammed by a flat nose m1a1 sabot, what your describing is some midling between a lasgun and a lascannon (lascannon is over a 100 megawatt laser, a.k.a. the sheer impact of the laser is a minimum of about 17 modern hand grenades detonating in a single spot similtaneously). Based purely on power consumption when being charged (few hours in fire, a few more in sunlight) a lasgun is in the watt to kilowatt range, or about 1,000 - 10,000 ish times weaker per pulse than a lascannon. The reason things explode when hit by it is that its almost definitely tuned harmonically to water (think of a microwave oven) and thus causes small steam explosions on damp, fleshy, or wet targets. Hence why it rips off unprotected limbs andmoccasionally (not always) detonates on terrain.

My idea of Warhammer 40K is like the quantum physics in particles, but reversed.
You test it and looks like a wave, with photons acting like being in two quantum states at the same time (makes no sense), but measure it and bam! It is a particle, with definite quantum state.
Imperium of Man, however, is finite and limited. It has a finite power and a finite territory, which does not overlap with the other races and can, maybe, even lose to them. However, measure it and bam! It is suddenly infinite and uncertain, it makes no sense. Where does their power end? Where does their galactic control end? It cannot be infinite because there are other races out there that are even more powerful than they are, but you look at it and the Imperium of Man is *just imesurable.*
The number of individual space marines (and only them, not even counting guards and shit) is higher than the total count of quantum particles in the universe. Makes sense? Not at all, it just is.
How can the universe even support such insane living power? It can't.
      It just is.
How can a single space marine with barely no magical power be so fucking powerful (like, *infinitely* powerful) yet die so easily (because the enemies are *infinitely* powerful too)? They can't.
      It just is.
      It is the joke.

      Actually, 40k is reversed powercreep.
EVERY factions (Except Tau), is long past their prime or golden age. Nercon used to rule the universe for 60 MILLIONS years. Gods were so scared of them that they had to trick them to give up their body. Orc which is the second most powerful faction right now was once highly intelligent while physically stronger than they are now. Tyranids are literally the Floor in Halo but actually won. It is rumors that outside of the Imperium, there are nothing but Tyranids and Orcs left.
Hack, even human are long past their golden age. ALL of human technology were invented back in the "Dark Age of Humanity". In 40k, there was no working competed STC (Standard Template Construct) anymore. They are usually technology that were decoded from pieces of this database. During Age of Technology, EVERY human group of colonists have one of these machine that are able to produce anything and everything. A machine that contain all of human knowledge. AI work side by side with human and ploit interstellar ships through warp. Current Imperium of Men, which is already more overpowered than all their other Sci-Fi setting, is not even 1% of a 1% of Human used to be.

      That’s absolute truth!
The only “plot nerfs” which are existing in 40K are towards some of the Necrons, because they are technically the most op race in the galaxy who has quantum computers instead of their brains and use fragments of space gods as powerbanks/pokemons, so their leaders forced to be either insane or not being interested in fighting towards most other races.
The another one is Magnus the Red after Horus Heresy, who is technically capable of wiping out entire armies by force of single spell, or can blow gigantic titans with mind bolts. But in that case any conflict won’t be interesting with him participating in it, so there is a lot of weird stuff is going on with any plot connected to him…

@@GKinslayer To be fair, ther eis quite a bit of difference. A fleet of star destroyers can purge the surface of a planet with extended orbital bombardment, but that's somewhat easy to contend with. Your planetary shields can hold back their weapons while your orbital defences fight them off. Even if the star destroyers are in orbit unopposed it'll take them some time to wipe the planet, and the planet itself will still be there after it just lacking any life.
The death star can turn a planet into an asteroid field, at range, with little to no warning. No time to evacuate, no options for defence, and very little to return to after the event. That's why it was such a big deal.
And just because it could happen, doesn't mean it was common. Even in 40k Exterminatus wasn't common. The ability is there if and when it's needed, but it really is a last resort.

There's also one thing I like about the orks that you don't see anywhere else. I read somewhere that a guardsman managed to steal an ork's gun. When he tried to pull the trigger, it wouldn't fire. When the ork got his gun back, the gun started shooting again. You can give an ork a metal pipe and tell it that its a gun and if he believes its a gun, that pipe will start shooting out bullets.

Internet Zen Master But it also works the other way around, you can hold a flashlight and if the Orks believe it to be a gun, perhaps a lasgun, it will kill them. Humans can also tap into that WAAGH energy if they spend enough time around orks. This is particularly shown by a group of gardsmen that they have hunted Orks on their planet of centuries. The WAAGH field is stronger the more orks there are. Many of their weapons work based on the belief that they will work. What's worse is that different colors have different effects on things due to WAGH energy. Yellow= Bigger boom. Red=Faster. Green=better hidin. Ect. You also have to deal with the fact that if an Ork makes it to your planet, you almost have to glass the planet to prevent more orks. See, when an Ork dies it releases spores that GROW MORE ORKS. Many orks have a natural affinity for technology. Ect. The orks are descendants of the Morks which were MADE by the Old ones to fight the war in heaven. They were designed to fight a war where they are outmatched and win! They won't grow tired of combat, in fact, its the opposite. They revel in it. There are accounts of at least on two seperate occasions a ork WAGH making it to the Sol system and nearly destroying Holy Terra itself! The first time the Emperor himself had to step in to stop it. The second one was very interesting lore wise, for you see, they didnt have a single Warboss but an oligarchy of 16 warbosses working together so that their wagh would never fall. It took a primearch DIEING just to kill ONE of the 16 warbosses. They had mobile bases the size of moons that could teleport across the galaxy and end worlds. They had hundreds of those things and parked one above Terra for awhile. In the end, the Orks decided that the Imperium wasn't as fun to fight as something they discovered outside the 40k galaxy itself! So they just up and left! That's the power of the orks for you. P. s. Very rarely does any of them fall to Chaos. Turns out their WAGH energy actually dampens the powers of kaos depending on who you talk to. There are also Ork psykers though those are few and far between and shunned by Orks. XD

2 years late but I think the better comparison is finding a guard regiment dedicated to the topic in question. Space Marines are the "poster child" because GW wants them to sell, but for each space marine battle the guard has fought on hundreds more battle fields across the galaxy. Now to admit my bias, I play guard and I love all the random lore. However, Cadia is the gold standard model and a single planet housing a regiment is the exception not the rule. Cadia, Catachan, Armageddon, Vostroya, Valhalla, Krieg, Atilla, Tallaran, and too many more are not the standard of 40k. In general we should and can divide them into: Fuedal, Penal, specialist, and "standard" (not this is how I like to break down legions it's not really official)
Fuedal legions are legions drawn up from worlds which have regressed to resemble the fuedal era of humanity though some retain stronger weapons such as the laslock. They tend to be a bit smaller when drawn from a single world.
Penal legions are legions drawn up from a variety of worlds and have criminals who were too bad to return to society but not totally irredeemable (think repentia from the sisters of battle)
Specialist legions are ones like Krieg, Armageddon, Catachan, and Tallaran specialize in siege, mechanized, jungle, and desert/ambush warfare respectively. These tend to be from a single world though that is not always the case.
"Standard" refers to legions that are close to Cadia but have one or two special characteristic. From being pricks to having an armor or weapon that's only produced on their home world. They may deploy independently or may be a model that's exported to a system or systems. These could be culturally distinct groups, groups that are drawn from gangs, groups that carry unique armors, groups with unique weapons, etc. etc. Additionally they may be entire regiments (which would have to be reduced in size given the size of a 40k regiment) or could be mixed together.
How 40k treats the guard is incredibly strange. They are the punching bag of every action, yet they still appear everywhere. Like ants where there is one there's dozens and where a threat appears they fight even if there are no chances of survival. Even when space marines run, when the enemy is mowing them down, and when the planet breaks below their feet. The guard has held the line for 10 thousand years, and they shall continue to hold the line.
The planet broke before the guard did, Cadia Stands!

FREEDOM IS THE RIGHT OF ALL SENTIENT BEINGS
You'd be surprised what not only optimus prime can do in 40k but the average cybertronian big or small
Before we talk about Cybertron optimus we must talk about optimus in General transformers has (had its weird)multiversal constants to some degree certain laws that govern transformers lore apply on a multiversal level let's break down a few
1)primus and the matrix:primus as stated is a multiversal lvl primordial god of order good and creation compare this to the parasyte gods of 40k who are a measly galactic(universal at best in case of khorne tseench with his shards gork and mork)now what the matrix does is create a direct link between the Prime possessing It and all previous primes this includes primus himself and can release his energy now that is mostly useless unless used against Unicron the primordial god of chaos basically optimus any point can just pull up to the warp open up the matrix and PURGE the entire warp of chaos bye bye chaos gods
2): cybertronian anatomy:unlike what first impressions would lead you too think Cybertronians aren't (just) robots they are metal based organisms with cells dna(cna)cybertronian anatomy has a funny little property of incorporating materials and technology that means optimus can pull up to a tomb world steal some tech and with a bit of surgery asymilate it into his cna necron tech and materials(necrodermis and Blackstone)alone would make optimus
      -immune to psychic energy
      -regenerate
      -be able too resurrect himself
      -be able to teleport
-be able to phase through matter
-be able to mass shift thus giving him FTL both for movement and combat
-his natural bio weapons would turn into gauss blasters (and if he got rocket pods from the tau he would have gauss missiles)he could also get the void shield from the Empire (and then his cna will turn it into smth like a gauss shield)and the advanced laser tech from eldar
IT GETS WORSE (or better)optimus is a large land vehicle so he can scan other large land vehicles and turn into em like say a doomsday ark winch has the firepower of a supernova
And all of that refers to the AVERAGE cybertronian not prime
Now if you want more well move in to prime
3)prime power ya see in order to understand Cybertron optimus we have too understand his megatron/Galvatron Cybertron is the third and last series on the Unicron trilogy to put it shortly lets start the timeline with Armada Megatron basically imagine primarch twice as big and completely made out of metal now a Megatron gets powered up by minicons(who all have a part of Unicron's power and becomes Galvatron now in Transformers energon Galvatron feeds in even more of Unicron's power and re becomes Megatron(he died in Armada well kinda)and then he feeds on super energon on Cybertron the divine life blood of primus and re becomes Galvatron then in Cybertron he grafts parts of Unicron's Corps onto himself and re becomes Megatron then he siphons the power of a cyber planet key and becomes Galvatron(and by extension optimus)has is atleast comparable to a daemon Prince one tiny correction if memory serves a planet key alone CST terraform the omegalock is need for that but the matrix can be used to make new autobot life oit of vehicles and a cyber planet key can be used to alter and inhance cybertronian anatomy so optimus can turn himself I to a jet if he wants too basically a fully enhanced Cybertron optimus can pull up to the palace the Emperor and all his primarchs and solo everyone at once not too mention he can just make an army others like him that are loyal to the autobot cause of "freedom is the right of all sentient lifeforms)
Also nine of this covers how our boy space robo jesus is a tactician a scholar a politician and a philosopher with a millennia of experience who only ever asked for freedom and peace

If you actually created the 40k universe and they actually had to produce the food and distribute it to feed everyone, the Imperium would collapse within days, because it doesn't have the infrastructure to actually exist. And that's before you take into account their endless wars that burn through monumental amounts of resources they just don't have. I feel like an astartes would be a really tough match up for a Jedi. They are super heavy so I would be hard to force push them, they are also familiar with fighting psychers. They shoot bullets which are almost impossible to deflect with a light saber. And they could probably tank a few lightsaber strikes.

    • @lennardchurch8483
      @lennardchurch8483 Год назад +2

Mass/weight isn't really a factor for properly trained Jedi. They can throw around starfighters, which are significantly more massive than Space Marines.
And Space Marine Armor is weak to super-heated plasma, meaning the Lightsabers would likely go through it like butter.
Bolter rounds are grenades the size of a roll of quarters, and since a lightsaber is liable to cause the grenade to explode on contact rather than be deflected, which could still result in shards injuring the Jedi. The Jedi's best chance is to use their superior speed and agility to avoid getting shot.
I'd say for most matchups the Space Marines would have the advantage, though Force Users with darker impulses might be able to use Force Crush to pulverize Space Marines without a fight.

Can collect materials to upgrade/grow, produce droids, droid fighters, capital ships, and even create new world devastators)
It takes seven imperial star destroyers to execute a exsterminatus in under 24 hours.
The hapes consortium was a faction in star wars that had a minuscule number of planets compared to that of the empire. Its navy outnumbered its number of planets by 3-7+ to one. This means with just the empire's full memeber world territries they could more than double thier navy or heavily supplement larger capital ships like the Allegiance battlecruiser(2km), or dreadnoughts.
Plus there was a plan to include super class star destroyers(8km) in many of the empires sectors. That potentially 100s. There was also the assertor class(15km), bellator(7km), and mandator III(12km).
Also even the seperatist alliance had millions of warships(revenge of the sith cross section), and they only held 10,000 to a couple dozen thousand systems.Imperial army: 10s of trillions(Rebellion era campaign guide)

The E-11 is the equivalent of a 14.5mm round with enough heat to punch through a lightly armored or unarmered opponent(as seen in multiple canon and legends comics). In a new hope it vaporizes steel bars. Hans blaster can be scaled to a 20mm and chewbaccas bowcaster from canon dishes out 47,000 pounds of force. In legends comics a heavy blaster pistol like hans, was shown to cause a mini grenade like explosion able to knock a human into the air. In the same comic series a few heavy blaster rifles were able to punch through a six inch metal door. In canon a blaster rifle split a stone(some kind of rock) cliff in two. There were also disruptor rifles whicj disintegrated targets.
At-At: Has the fire power to destroy a 90 meter transport ship, has shields(battleftont 2 their shields are impenetrable until their taken down) able to tank ground, and speeder based laser cannons(stronger than blaster cannons which are on par or stronger than hans blaster). Their armor had a tensile strength of 60,000- 130,000 psi. By the time palpatine was resurrected in legends at-ats used light turbolasers.
Stormtrooper armor: in the 2nd edition sourcebook its stated that slug throwers ineffective against the weakest of modern armor(unless you have a 20mm, or enough blunt force trauma), and in tatooine ghost hypersonic rounds from tusken raiders bounced off stormtrooper armor.
The empire had 3 adeptus astartes equivalents(SD9 battle droid, Dark troopers mark 2, and 3). Technically 5 but hazard, and zero g stormtroopers lack firepower. As well 6 adeptus sororitas equivalents in glory class dark troopers, juggernaut combat suit, oppressor-9, purge troopers(dark droid), phase 0 dark trooper, and oppressor-7 dark troopers.
The republic had blaze tropers, and the droid army had the FLTCH battle droid.

Warhammer 40k always wins because, from the ground up, it's built on this philosophy:
"Nothing is OP, because literally everything is OP...therefore the galaxy is a terrible place to live."
It's meant to be a universe where everything is on the verge of dying and needs to compensate by pushing their limits to the point that limits no longer exist. I mean, even in the fiction there's a whole realm where if a person believes hard enough, or has enough people to believe, they can make a deity or a powerful force that then acts upon the material world.
You can literally belief you are invincible, therefore you will be invincible. It's a hellscape gothic space existential and body horror...everything is possible there

You can honestly say that Chaos is actually the weakest faction as any of the other factions in their prime could beat its ass in every fight, the only reason Chaos is so dangerous is the corrupting ability and the warp that can always respawn them if they died, if a faction was able to take away/counter those two prime abilities, Chaos is boned beyond description.

@@elalto3492 Tau are too young and not anywhere large enough to be considered in overall galactic threats. The Imperium can drown them in numbers, the necrons could turn them to atoms, they use AI and all sorts of corruptable tech, so chaos will fck them up, the Eldar would use them to oblivion, Orks don't even need a justification, Tyranids will eventually overrun the entire galaxy. I feel bad for the tau, they came into the galaxy when the galaxy is in it's twilight years, only a few millennia away from being destroyed.

@@elalto3492 But the Tau have two distinct advantages over the other races. First is that they have a very dim light in the warp which makes them near invisible for chaos and thus they have very little to fear from chaos. The second is that they are actually able to innovate and they innovate quickly. They have not yet reached the peak of their power, mainly because they are hemmed in by the imperium on one side and the orks on the other. The Tau are still in ascension while the peak has already passed for the other races. As for the nids, the nids aren't a civilized species, they have no technology and no culture. So saying they have some kind of golden age or some past or present glory is not really applicable here. They are intelliegnt, yes, but they don't think as the other races do. A good, simple phrase to explain the power levels in 40k comes from The Incredibles. Syndrome's quote "When everyone is super, no one will be," is the concept that what everyone in one universe would call overpowered, 40k would call normal or even WEAK.

Keep in mind... That the lasguns are the epitome of reliable weaponry. Easily manufactured and maintained to the point where every guardsman is issued one and can maintain it easily without much especialized tool, not to mention it's solar powered so you don't need to manufacture ammunition for it, no bullet dropoff and minimal to nonexistent recoil so any misses are mostly from human error, and the "projectile" can absolutely melt lightly armored targets.
And it's considered a flashlight in 40k... Think about that.
