In 1986 I was a wilderness fire lookout in Montana, my best friend gave me World Party and I listened to it endlessly. I subsequently got all the cd’s that came out. I got to see World Party one summer in Calgary, loved it. Good bye Karl…see ya at the end of the trail.
So saddened to hear this news. A brilliant musician who channeled the likes of Ray Davies and Lennon & McCartney in his World Party work. A gentle, honest soul; never recall ever a bad word written or said about Karl. I was a big time, heavy listener to his Private Revolution and Goodbye Jumbo albums. A favorite: "God On My Side". Born just two days before Karl, in the same year, it drives home the short time we are given in this world. Karl made this world a better place with his brilliant contribution to music. Rest easy.
He was so talented. You can hear the beautiful melodies of Neil Young and he did an incredible Dylan cover. And also threw some psychedelic Prince in too. But always sounded like himself. What a loss.
Timeless music, the telltale mark of greatness and lastability. Darnit, we lost another great one . Always loved your music and will continue to do so. R.I. P. Karl Wallinger...
I first heard World Party on a United Airlines flight from LA to Honolulu. I bought the CD immediately and still listen to that album from time to time. Such a creative band and meaningful lyrics that stand the test of time!
@@albertturner1039 Because -- of course -- it's either your magical invisible father figure or NOTHING. Nice thinking! (If you were maybe 11 years old)
@@shaunsteele6926 Cope??! Why would you say that? If something is a fact it isn't a problem, and since you know it IS a fact, this is really exciting, because YOU are going to win a Nobel Prize for this discovery! I can't wait to hear your evidence! 😇
Such a subtle and beautiful melody. Really unlike anything else. Thanks so much for posting a good quality version of this performance. Safe passages to the next life Karl! You’ll be missed around here.
Reading through all of your comments makes my heart so full. Growing up, I never fit in, I still don't. But man was I elated just playing my World Party albums. Feeling like I connected with Karl. He and his music means so much to me. RIP Karl. 😢❤
World Party was OK. Karl lacked the last sprinkling of songwriting magic really. And Bang as an album was more of a chore than a pleasure to listen to.
This takes me back to my very first apartment. My roommate got me hooked in World Party. Their albums are still in heavy rotation in my home to this day.
Really one of my favorite musicians of all time, Karl. I can't get over how I'll probably never turn on the TV again, tune into a talk show, SNL, whatever, and hear music as brilliant and moving as this and others of its time and before. Aint nothing today gonna either save my life or break my heart. So fortunate we had this.
Even though I've not been listening to them recently, was stunned and saddened by the loss of Karl. Still am. Talented beyond words,he wrote and performed perfect pop for all time. Rest easy Karl, and thank you for gracing us with your existence.
As a little boy, I once heard this song on TV and on the radio, maybe in 1993 or 1994, then for many years I hummed this verse and this chorus in my mind, but for 30 years I couldn't find the title of this song and enjoy it again . But a few months ago, thanks to Google Assistant, I managed to find the song of my childhood (another such song is Black Hole Sun). Unfortunately, my joy did not last long, because I learned that the wonderful Karol Wallinger had just died. Rest in peace, beautiful soul.💔😢
Thanks for posting this as it is a favorite song of mine. Karl gave us some great music in his lifetime and it is hard to believe that he has left us. I was lucky enough to see him perform twice with the last time being a cold early June night in Milwaukee. I was the only one waiting around to talk to talk to him after the show and I was lucky enough to spend 10 plus minutes chatting with him. Thanks for that special night Karl and all of the great music. He'll be sorely missed.
Part of my journey of being a young man.. When I first discovered this timeless song and waterboys whole of the moon Karl was a true artist and creative genius sorely missed rip Karl I hope the next part of the journey is even better mate god bless
Karl, I grew up on the Beatles, Dylan, Jimi and I know you did, and you took your influences and crafted them into your own beautiful art of music. Intelligent, perceptive and true all qualities I deeply resonate with. RIP my brother, my muse at times and a soundtrack I loved listening to whenever travelling.
Many years ago......and how quickly those precious years have passed. Enjoy every day you are given, they truly are a gift from God, as we celebrate Easter today. RIP Mr. Wallinger, a monikor you richly deserve.
@martyc2637 Karl was part of the early 1980s legendary band " The Waterboys " and was an integral influence on their 1985 masterpiece "This is the Sea" before setting off on his own journey RIP 🙏 Karl
Late Night had a policy of using the band for all musical guests. They are pros but it had to be a bit nervy to play a song with newbies. I like how Karl was smiling during this at what was probably the band syncing up. They did use their drummer and only the one bass. Nice job everyone.
I knew time was borrowed since 2001 but, still, I always hoped for more. sniffle sniffle. How could it come to this? The universe spins and moves... that's how.
R.I.P. Karl Wallinger, who wrote, played, and sang perfect pop. Have had World Party in heavy rotation for decades - it never, ever gets old.
It’s amazing how it never gets old… timeless. Sad day.
Agreed, sad to lose him.
I agree! One of my favorites for sure! 😊
R.I.P.
Oh no, how did I not know???
Just a couple years ago they were playing in North Hampton, MA 😭😭💔💔
😢😢 R.I.P Karl Wallinger a huge loss to people who love music 🎶🎸🎶

At least I’m not alone in digging, “Is It Like Today?” I listened to this great tune three times in the past week, and I’m 73 years old.
Keep pitching. Good taste never gets old...it just gets better. Rock keeps you young. Glad you're still with us. Lvya much
64 and just learned “ is it like today “ on an acoustic. Terrific album.

Great call on the Ray Davies/Lennon-McCartney parallel.
Thank you!@@privatepenguin3137
May be that was his problem,I personally have never heard of this group and don’t wish to in the future !
He was so talented. You can hear the beautiful melodies of Neil Young and he did an incredible Dylan cover. And also threw some psychedelic Prince in too. But always sounded like himself. What a loss.
I was going to say Neil Young, listening to this.
RIP Karl Wallinger, an exceptional songwriter and musician.

Now Karl is face to face with God. Bless you brother thank you for craftsmanship and the memories.

R.I.P. Karl 😢 - great tune. Great sound of the late 80's early 90's...also R.I.P. to Eric Carmen who died today as well.
Double whammy! 😢 I loved them both.
Yes, another great, Eric Carmen ❤
This is one of the 90s 10 greatest tracks.

A question for 93' and now even more. R.I.P. Karl and thank you...

It's ok. Those who know, really know.
Karl got the recognition from the people that matter.

I saw them at Santa Monica Civic Center back in the 1980s, loudest show I've been to before or since. Karl Wallinger R.I.P., what a loss.

No Songwriter has given such a stark warning to Man all those years ago. Every line rings with the terrible truth of what Man is doing to the Earth.
