In 1992 my wife and I drove from Perth to Sydney via Darwin in an old Kombi with a dodgy tape player and 2 cassettes. This album was one. It was enough. RIP Karl, you legend
I was 15 when I first heard this on the radio back in 1993. It mesmerised me straight away. I managed to tape it off the radio and would play it over and over, I still have the cassette ! For years I never knew who even sung the song. 43 now and it’s still one of my all time favourites, hearing it still takes me back to my teenage years. It’s amazing the effect certain songs can have on emotions and senses.
I first heard this song going up to the highlands of of Scotland with my best friend in the 90s,it was such a turning point in my life he helped me turn away from the destructive path I was on,now as a middle aged man it always takes me back to that fork in the road,I'm so glad of good friends like him,........we're still best friends but with grey hair now✌

As we experience a crisis of competence and as rigid ideologies extinguish the pursuit of knowledge, the ending of this song hits hard. We can only coast on the achievements of those who built the world we live in today for so long. When I first heard this song as a young man, I thought to myself, "I'm glad I'll be long gone before our civilization collapses like that." Now I fear I'm watching it happen in real time.
I discovered this song after my spiritual awakening. It popped up randomly in one of my spotify radios. That moment was magical, like something speaking to me through song. I love everything Karl did. I was so sad when I heard he passed away. I had the honor of meeting him about 30 years ago and playing with him at a friends house while he was on tour. Well, he played and I listened and sang along. Never forget. Rip Karl.
