Loving statistics, I think that everyone should have charts with the variables! I will have to re watch this video, stopping and starting, So that I can compile a brief synopsis of eco items used, the quantities that you combined, mordants added, various paper types, results, etc. Seriously, it would take less time to do so that to replicate your experiment (and results) would take! Hahahahahaha Thank you so much for not only doing the work, but for sharing it. I know that I do not have some of the papers that you have. TFS, again and again!
Happy Mother's Day. Thank you for the special share at the end. Your sheep were delightful so very very cute. I felt like I was there with you reaching out and petting them, too. You were very thorough in your Echo dying experiment and the results were breathtaking thank you for sharing. God bless and stay safe!
These came out beautiful! I was thinking of just looking at them and not using them. Ha ha ha. That’s a a true junk journal approach, ehhh? Just sit back and admire?? Thank you so much for the tips!
My grandma always made onion skin dye for my Easter eggs. I so wish for those simpler times. Thank you for sharing, this has been very informative. Happy Mother’s Day (here in the states).
Always appreciate seeing people experiment with eco dyestuffs. Just got to say though, it would be funny to have a counter for every time you said just ; )

Hope you get to give it a try soon. I’m itching to get back outside now that the weather is picking up again. All the wild flowers are coming into bloom 💕🌸🌿🌼🌸

I have tea dyed and coffee dyed and had not heard of eco dyed papers beyond that. My goodness the outcome of your processes is fabulous! I really like the papers which you did with plain onion skins and water. And the sheep just made my day. They are adorable! Thanks for sharing these techniques. I gotta try them.
Fascinating! thank you so much for sharing your "recipes". Looking forward to trying these. I just did some (much more ordinary) tea dyeing today; I experimentally used my food dryer. My food dryer is rectangular, with 12 shelves, so I put the soaked papers (copy paper size) two to a wire shelf somewhat overlapped sideways; put it on lowest setting for an hour. Worked brilliantly. Put some others into my oven on lowest setting for well over an hour on a baking tray, would probably still be waiting hours later, so they went into the food dryer too. So if you have a food dryer with rectangular type arrangement, it works very well. The overlapping didn't cause any issues; you can rearrange them to get the overlapped bit dry half way through. P.S. the dried papers have very little patterning to them, but that's what I wanted.
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia I've got a Sahara brand (can dial down the temp and set to high/low for air flow) but I'd imagine any dryer with rectangular shape would work, because they're A. cheaper to run B. Way less likely to catch fire and C. Very quick. Which meant for me (no place to just air dry wet papers) I could actually try all these great paper dyeing techniques at last. Just be mindful opening the trays when the paper has dried, because it naturally curls up a bit.
ohhhh they're darling! My sister is raising sheep for the first time and this week had her very first lambs--six!! aren't they fun! Love your beautiful papers, too!
Wow Nina what lovely colours and affects . Looking forward to seeing the journals. It makes me think of medieval times and how they dyed things. Of course, loved the sheep, we used to call the Suffolk sheep "Black nosed ears"!!!!! Hope you had a lovely Mothers Day with your boys being home.
Thanks Christie, glad you enjoyed the video. We celebrated Mother’s Day here back in March. Its strange that we celebrate it at different times, but I hope you had a lovely day 💕
Thank you for sparking my interests in eco dying again. It really is fun to see what results you come with. You made me laugh when I seen all the papers scattered across the yard. And the sheep! simply precious. Big smiles here. Thank you 🐑
Fun! I have done a lot of eco printing leaves last year as well as making many eco dyes for dyeing blown out eggz last year. I enjoy the process of experimentation. I made a acocado dye they other day ( it is in my fridge) simmered for hours and a bit darker than yours. I will be playing this week. May add a mordant or modifier. ( I have iron and copper solutions). Fun!!
Well, that was fun! As soon as I saw your papers spread out over the lawn I immediately thought, "I couldn't do that! All my paper would wind up in the next county", as it generally is quite breezy around here! I really like the way the iron worked with your dyes. I suggest that you get yourself some hibiscus flower tea and try that out. When you get it really strong it looks quite red but makes a beautiful blue dye. I don't know what it would do with Iron or Tannin in it. Mordants are quite amazing. I used to dye wool, and there are some amazing gorgeous colors that come from lichens, especially seaside lichens -- golds and reds and browns. Thanks for sharing this, Nina. Such a fun video.
Thanks Ellie, glad you enjoyed it. I have quite a few herbal teas in the cupboard that I want to try and I think I still have some hibiscus flowers, as I added them to the papers I made a couple of years ago, so it would be interesting to try it as a plain paper dye. The weather is picking up again this week and I am itching to get back outside to play some more! Have a super week. I’m really enjoying seeing the progress you are making in your garden 💕
Oh dear, Nina. You've hooked me on dying paper sheets of all types. All the hand painting in the world could never give the same effect as Eco dying ! Thanks so much.
I often use beet juice, juice from unusable blueberries. You should try hibiscus dried flowers. Boil in water first layer paper dampened add flowers layer again. Dry flowers they can be used again. Great striations! Using alum and vinegar does definitely produces darker colors.
Oh, my-what sweet, little faces there at the end! You must live in a beautiful area, and you have such a lovely garden, too! Stunning papers!! I really need to try dyeing my own papers, but the wind blows so in our part of Northern Arizona, I’d have to clip each page to the clothesline to dry.

Simply brilliant! Thank you so much for experimenting for us. I have used avocados and red cabbage to dye paper, but never yet tried using mordants. After seeing this, I def need to give it a try 😊
Well that was totally fascinating but what a surprise! I really thought that the red onions would give you red papers and the avocados green ones. Who would have thought that the opposite would be true. I wonder whether you could use beetroot and would the colour come out red/wine-coloured? The papers are so gorgeous, Nina. Super video and I learnt a lot. Thank you.
I have tried beetroot and you get lovely red to pink shades depending on how much you dilute it. Red cabbage gives purple to light blue shades again depending on the dilution.

Oh my Goodness, you’ve been so busy! What a wonderful collection of papers. I love what you’ve done.
Thanks Maria. Once I started I just couldn’t stop. It was fascinating 💕
Van Dyke crystals are also great to use, very strong so only need a small amount
Thank you, I shall add them to my ever growing want list 💕😘

Hi mad scientist Nina 👩🔬🤣 what lovely results, you have way more patience than I do! The papers will make great signatures 💕💫
Haha well this certainly kept me quiet for a day or two! Really pleased with the results 💕
Wow, your papers are beautiful. I am impressed with all the variations of color you achieved. Thanks Nina, have a great week.
It was a fascinating experiment. I’m so pleased with the results 💕
Simply brilliant! Thank you so much for experimenting for us. I have used avocados and red cabbage to dye paper, but never yet tried using mordants. After seeing this, I def need to give it a try 😊
The mordants make such a difference I think. The whole process is fascinating. I want to try my hand at red cabbage and beetroot too 💕
Beautiful can't wait to try this technique, thank you very nice video on how to do this.
Thank you so much. Happy Creating 💕
Your are such a joy to watch !!! Love your ideas and really appreciate you sharing them with us
Aw, thanks so much Liz 💕
Well that was totally fascinating but what a surprise! I really thought that the red onions would give you red papers and the avocados green ones. Who would have thought that the opposite would be true. I wonder whether you could use beetroot and would the colour come out red/wine-coloured?
The papers are so gorgeous, Nina. Super video and I learnt a lot. Thank you.
It really was Edna. I was so surprised by the results. Now you’ve got me wondering about beets too 💕 x
I have tried beetroot and you get lovely red to pink shades depending on how much you dilute it. Red cabbage gives purple to light blue shades again depending on the dilution.
Wow! Gorgeous papers, thanks for the recipes.
Thank you 💕
Such a cool project - wonderful papers!!! Thank you! Hugs and stay safe!!! 👏🏻👍🏻😍
Thanks so much Almut. Hugs to you too 💕 xo
