NINA RIBENA, Thank you for sharing this stunningly beautiful journal, which you have so lovingly created, and so articulately and painstakingly tutored and inspired others to create. I shared your video on my Facebook page, along with this comment: "ART IN THE TIME OF COVID-19: Nina Ribena, a UK artist, shares her love of hand crafted art journals, primarily using things she finds in her garden, along with other natural elements, to create a gorgeous treasure tribute to the beauty and complexity of nature."
This is the first time I have seen this kind of journal. I love it. This is right up my alley. I Love Love Love this type of Art. Thank you for your posts. Thumbs up and saved and subscribed!
Your nature journal was exquisite. You worked the colors and textures and the subjects together beautifully. I want to try and use your sense of texture and combining color with papers etc of different color groups and see if i can come up with as pleasing results as you have with these natural textures and dyes. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful video, Nina!! So many great ideas. I never would have thought of keeping the wasps nest...now I can't wait to find one. Those stickers that are so difficult. to get the backing off - try sticking a piece of tape to each side near an edge and gently pull apart. someone shared this tip with me and it works quite well. ❤️❤️❤️
EDITH HOLDEN Diary of an Edwardian Lady I have loved Edith Holden's Diary since it was first printed. I've used it as a reference. It is one of my prized things. I cannot imagine cutting up such a book when to photocopy it would offer the same resource for projects while at the same time preserving this wonderful book for another generation. In the collages I pasted up yesterday, I photocopied pages from a 1906 Wildflower Guidebook, which was once used by my grandmother and my father. I have a beautiful collage but as important, I still have the book.
You have such a great eye for colour, shape and texture, Nina and you have really excelled yourself with this journal. I think it's absolutely wonderful and I've so enjoyed watching you create it. Many thanks!
OMG 😮 WOW 😮 WOW 😮 😮 WOW 😮 That’s absolutely and utterly incredible and stunning and gorgeous and breathtakingly beautiful....that paper you made from the wasp nest is really really stunning and gorgeous, and so textured too. I really really love 💕 all of it and the journals too. I really really think 🤔 you should take some seasonal photos of your garden, to put into the journal 📔. You’ve really really stunned me with this Nina. You’ve shown us all so many brilliant ideas 💡 and things we can do to make some of these things ourselves. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment Mags. Its lovely to hear this has given you ideas that will try yourself. I like the idea of adding some seasonal photos. I have taken a lot of photo’s of our spring flowers whilst they’re in bloom and I like the idea having them in the journal. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a wonderful week. Stay safe 💕💕💕🦋🌺🌸🌿 xxxxx
I think this is a major step forward you’ve laid out, to iron out moisture, then to mount on paper using glue, then to cover with a transparent layer also with glue (mod podge thinned or similar), and wind up with a journal-useable beautiful specimen. So glad to have noticed your process! Thank you!
Nina, one more thing! I discovered ten or so years ago that our euonymus out front produces berries in the fall. I mean the prettiest, orange-pink-with-white berries. They’re on the strong stalk of the low-growing bush, have the euonymus leaves in clusters up the stalk, make really nice vase additions. We are about to get near-freezing overnight temps, which shrivels up the berries, so I must must make haste to cut a few more to enjoy inside. All to say that I cut small sprigs of it yesterday after being inspired by your post. Gosh darn it, I just don’t think there’s a reasonable way to instantly dry them and retain their integrity! If I should wish to use a sprig of berries within a journal, I’d better think again, anyway! Part of the nature of preserving plants etc is keeping them still and out of drafts, away from heat. Ha. Lots of wishful thinking here. I’d have to build a journal with boxes for pages and an acetate window, and all I’m doing right now is trying to organize my craft space here, not journal-ambitious. But had to share my own momentary obsession!
Gosh Nina is there anything you cannot use in your journals, that wasp's nest paper is absolutely stunning. We had one a good few years ago and I couldn't wait to get rid of it, so scary. You have knocked it out of the park with this set of journals, so unique, so gorgeous and completely wonderful. Tfs xo
Thanks Elizabeth. I’m thrilled to bits with these journals. I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to use the wasp nest. We found it in our log shed and the wasps had long gone. It looked so delicate and beautiful that I couldn’t bear to throw it out. I know what you mean about them being scary though. We have 3 or 4 wasps nests in our Apex’s every year that we have to deal with and it’s an absolute pain! Sam is allergic to them and swells up like a balloon when he’s stung. Glad you enjoyed this 💕🌸🌿🦋 xo

I didn't get to sit down on Sunday after the dog walk as usual. This has been so lovely to watch on Tuesday. The journals are a pure delight. You enjoy them x
Nina your journals are awesome. I love them both. I have never seen a wasp nest like that, we have what I think are called paper wasps that make a cone shaped nest with little paper like dividers, I will have to give that a try with one I think I still have and let you know. I hope that upside down bottle tip at least helped with your glue. Have a wonderful week. Thanks for all the inspiration.
Thanks Debbie. I looked up the paper wasp and the nest looks really interested. Would love to hear how you get in with that. The bottle tip was really helpful thank you it was much easier for most of the video and just became a bit annoying towards the end. I think the glue needs thinning down, but definitely better keeping it upside down 💕. Have a wonderful week 💕
Lovely journals! The individual pieces are beautiful. All the papers are stunning. My favorite parts are the little collages. Thanks again for your wonderful leadership.
This time it is good evening nina, I was up and about very early this morning to visit my brother for the first time in three months due to his illness. I was really happy about that, so I saw your video later in the day. My goodness, the journals are so pretty, you should be proud.. Some time ago I saw a very nice quote, it said If you find a feather someone wants you to fly....had to think of that when you used the feathers from your garden. Have a good week nina, love lena xxx
Hello Lena. I’m glad you enjoyed your visit with your brother. I really like that quote and will add it to one of the feather pages. The weather is scorching here again today, so once Steve has finished work and I have cleaned the house, we will go for a nice long walk by the river. I hope you have a wonderful week 💕🌿🌺🌸💕

WOW!!!! these journal are absolutely fabulous you are so very artistic, the wasp nest paperis out of this world thank you so very much, I will be trying some of these tech. for sure!!
WOW! This is one of THE BEST tutorials I've ever seen! My head is spinning from all the ideas you have given me!!! My question is: what is the face book group you mention? The one where a woman gave access to 3 pages of sentiments to copy. If you didn't get an idea for the blank page (I know this video is a year old), mine is to copy a photograph (or a vintage postcard) of a garden and do a transfer onto canvas (or is that what you call "calico"?). I think the faded look of a photo transfer would really fit with the vibe of your book. I loved every page and hope to locate an earlier video of the floral pages featured here, but not demonstrated. Just this week I was running flowers through my embossing machine onto handmade paper to see how they would look...FAB!!
I'm so impressed that you were able to keep those lovely feathers from Louie. I have 2 cats and have learned the hard way that I cannot use feathers, string or ribbon in my journals. LOL. Lovely, lovely books. I am a new subscriber and a big fan. I have been binge watching your videos and learning so much. You never fail to inspire. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us. Be well. ~phinny, Seattle USA
Hi Phinny, thank you so much for subscribing. I’m glad this has given you idea for preserving your own feather collection. They’re too lovely to be hidden away aren’t they. Happy Creating 💕
I have a suggestion for the prompt for June.....how about Nature2? ☺️ I adored these projects and am so disappointed that they are coming to an end. What delightful videos you prepared for us. They are favorites. I must say your introduction to wax regular papers just changes so many ways you can create. I love it! The ledger/butterfly tag is to die for. I love that look. I have gushed enough but just want you to know how much I appreciate your creativity this month. -Marsha from Texas P.S. The tri-fold journal could hold your personal photos of your garden all in one lovely place.
Oh wow Marsha, you have blown me away with your kind words. I too am sorry that nature has come to an end, but I’m sure we will revisit it again. I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to use the things from nature that I have collected over the years, and I agree about the wax and it’s a technique I will be using time and time again. Have a wonderful week 💕🌿🌺🌸🦋

It's official Nina, this is one of my all time favorite videos from you! I can't stop drooling. These projects are ALL amazing!
Thanks so much Lynn. I really did enjoy making these 💕🌿🌸🌺
🔆simply stunning journal🔆
Thanks so much Deborah. This is my favourite one so far 💕
This was all so mesmerizing!! WOW!!!!! I can't tell you how enchanted I am with your beautiful work. 🥰 I'll be back for more 🙂
Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words April. They mean a lot 💕
Enchanting..that's the word I was looking for..just mesmerising
Stunning work Nina - absolutely beautiful and what a fantastic way to use the wasp nest
Thanks Kylie 💕
Thank you!!!!❤❤❤
I'm so impressed that you were able to keep those lovely feathers from Louie.
-Marsha from Texas
Hi Nina, this week I made some vellum.
Your feathers and especially the wasp 'paper' are something special.
Thanks Carina. I’m really enjoying using the vellum. Glad you gave it a try too 💕

Wow! Thank you so much for your lovely comment 💕
